Wear and tear, 'there's abit of dirt on the bottom pocket' 😂 😂 nice vid and the pack looks dope. Think a atom might be my next pack be sweet to support a UK business! Happy trails dude 🤜
I also purchased a similar pack from Tom earlier this year and, having now used on the Cleveland Way, can confirm that this review is spot on. I visited Tom prior to the purchase and, as a result of this and his advice, he delivered exactly the pack I wanted. I agree, the small additional volume, in my case 5L, really makes the pack more adaptable, especially as I prefer to be able to carry at least 5 days food, to avoid time with resupply stops. I moved from an Exped Lightning 60, which I found to be a comfortable pack but this, with the additional design features and much lower weight is in a different league! It is also fantastic that companies like this are making it possible to get quality equipment in the UK without having to look to the US.Keep up the good work with your videos, love them.
I probably have watched this video about 6 times to be quite honest. These Atom Packs backpacks are beautiful. So much so, that I actually ordered a custom Atom+! Thank you for bringing this company to my attention, these packs look perfect and check off so many boxes for me.
Just took my Atom Packs Mo 50 on a winter hike on the Overland Track in Tasmania. It took all my winter gear plus eight days worth of food no problem. Super comfortable, carries really well. It let a tiny bit of water in through the seams which was not a problem with a nyloflume pack liner. Fantastic pack!
You well and truly sold me this pack Russ, great review, just ordered my Atom plus for my weekly hikes and Toubkal next June, great to support a company like Tom's.
Thank you for the excellent videos. I wonder if you could use a seam sealer on you pack? Something like used for a tent. My go to pack is a Lite AF Curve 35. It's actually 43 liters, and under 1 lb.
Not sure on the bottom pocket as normally we throw or set the back down bottom wise so that will out alot if wear and year there if not handled correctly. Very good idea and that small hole? Brilliant but again I have no problem with wrappers blowing away. Good job on getting a free pack to test out as I got the same deal with Gregory packs.
Does the Atom pack Y strap compress down as far as the HMG windtrider if you don't have much stuff or is what's shown in the video in the side-by side comparison as far as it can be pulled down?
Hi Tom. I was in the workshop filming the making of the pack so didn’t give a spec, ended up just customising on the fly as they were making it. But here’s a spec that would make the pack if that helps! Model: Atom+ Size: Medium - 18’ torso Hipbelt size: Medium Fabric (main panels): VX21 Fabric (front pocket): Pleated mesh Colour: All black, orange bottom strip Elastic weight: Thickest weight Elastic colour: All orange Ice axe elastic colour : Dark blue Tabs colour: Orange Y-strap buckle: Side release buckle clip Side pocket fabric: Pleated Robic (black) Side pocket adjustmet: line-loc Extra components: - Y-strap - Z side compression elastic - 2 extra inches on the top - Hipbelt fastening (tighten pulling inward) - DCF pack liner + 2’ on the top Think that’s it, all other features and specs would be standard on the Atom+ Hope that helps! Russ
Would have enjoyed to hear a little bit more about how it distributes the load. Some of the frameless/minimally framed packs just destroy my shoulder (old climbing injury) and I've been on the lookout for a minimal pack that carries mostly on the hips.
Hey, recently found your channel and loving the content, I've got a 60l atom pack Mo which I love. Recently completed the fjallraven classic Denmark had a mix of weather Inc heavy rain and the pack in vx21 kept all my stuff dry
@@thetrailhunter4469 I had my down quilt and some spare clothes in a dry bag, just incase, everything else was in the main compartment, I also had a t-shirt just left in the main compartment which I was using as a bit of a test to see if it got wet or not as to whether I'd need to get a rain cover in the future, but it also stayed dry, was really impressed.
Ahh I still use it. I have two Atoms now in different sizes. On the PCT due to covid I switched to a 50L Circuit due to covid and needing to carry more food. No issues with the pack, just logistics. 👍
@@thetrailhunter4469 So even with the added 2 inches to the collar, for your personal use on the PCT, the 40L size in the Atom+ just wasn't quite large enough? I'm debating between the 40 and 50L size.
Yeah on the PCT this year, resupply was proving to be much harder and unreliable due to smaller shops closing so wanted to be able to carry 10 days of food if I needed to. Original plan was to carry 5 maybe 6 days max.
Question: what is the loadout like when carried? How does it feel with varying weight in it and trekking? I only ask because I really want to have one made for myself but I know some UL packs (Hyperlite for example) do very poorly when you start to exceed 11kilos aka 25 pounds.
Nope, bottom pockets have been around for donkeys years. They just marketed the hell out of it. Which made them 'cool'. And they actually are pretty darn sweet!

Hi Jake. Nice one! Ahh tough call. Where will you be taking the pack? How long will you be hiking? Atom Packs Mos are much simpler sacks than the Mariposa, but the Mariposa has more storage options as standard and a very different enclosure, I would prefer the Y strap on the Mo over the lid enclosure on the Mariposa.
