FAQs:
- Did I start alone? Yes. But the trail is super easy to make friends on, so relax and trust that along the 2650 miles of dirt, you’ll meet at least one person you might want to hike with.
- Music? I source it from MusicBed & Epidemic Sound - I also have a playlist! spoti.fi/3akkMDP
- How much money did you spend on the trail? Around $1000 USD a month.
- Your Hiking and Filming Gear? A video is coming, for now - check out my webpage (as above)
- Favourite Foods? A video is also coming, but for now just trust that peanut butter was a staple.
- How I edit? On Adobe Premiere Pro & After Effects
- How did I charge my gear? I would charge it using a power bank or every 3-7 days in towns.
- One piece of advice: Do your research, but understand that you’ll never feel truly prepared. Get your gear sorted, try talking to someone who has done the trail, don’t be disheartened by fear-mongering. Always make decisions based on your own experience. And just enjoy one of the wildest rides of your life!

Well, you have definitely planted the seed for hiking this trail.
Same for me! My husband has always wanted to but I was weary...until I watched Elina's videos and then it sparked something in me :)
@@TheSimpleEnvironmentalist I understand that feeling. 😊 I plan to hike the Camino from my home in Belgium some day, for now I keep myself buzy hiking and dreaming of bigger plans! 😁
SERIOUSLY. Such a great vibe and great info.
@@StepsbyKaatje Buen Camino!
I have binge watched your entire series twice in the last two days and now I am obsessed and want to go as soon as possible!! Love and gratefulness from Germany.
I'm also dreaming of the PCT, but won't be possible for the near future. But I keep myself buzy nearby my home in Belgium. Still not allowed to go further anyway! 😁
Hey hey, another gal from germany obsessed with the idea of hiking the pct over here, maybe we'll meet on the trail one day!😊
I live in Oregon, it really is a great trail. The 'lakes region' between Crater lake and the trail just past ski do/hwy 22 is my fav part. Hot summer on trails and cold mountain water is fun mix.
@@eva9803 I think you meet a lot of people from over the world when you're out there. 😀 I think that's part of the fun. I think I'll start to hike to Compostela from my home first, see how I like thru hiking. 😀 Greetz
@@eva9803 That would be so much fun and a really funny story to tell 😊😂😂
if possible, could you make a video talking about some recipes you did on the trail??? especially those Asian inspired meals, those looked good
Noa Sliwa sounds like a good idea. The Ramen Bombs 💣 only go so far. Package of Ramen noodles with mashed potatoes on top.
I approve this message.
Personality just earned a subscriber. This may be the most enjoyable gear video EVER!
I love your PCT series and I can't believe you used just a 40L pack!
You are so right GEAR is personal and what is great for one isn’t great for another. I love PBJ on Tortilla for lunch, can’t wait to try the Coghlan’s Squeeze tube.
Honestly, one of the very best gear videos I have seen both in terms of cinematics and usefulness...and I have seen A LOT of gear videos! Instant subscription from me!
Nice Video... Take Care
Full respect for hiking so far with so little. I'm seriously impressed.
You deserve all the peanut butter you could ever wish for.
Um she’s not special many through hikers use one small packs. Also all that gear cost a couple grand.
@@mom_im_losing_it 😂 she’s got over 68,000 followers and you’ve got 3
@@TangoDelta70 wow who cares about that. I'm not here for followers.
@@mom_im_losing_itno worries. Seems like you're just here to hate

I’m a fellow kiwi living in Colombia, getting ready to hike around Patagonia. Thanks so much for making videos like this, it’s honestly the best resource!!! And inspiration to get off my ass and get out there haha ka pai
Thanks for doing this! I watched your whole trip! Planning on taking the whole family 🙌🏼
Best gear video I have watched. Loved your PCT videos as well. Wishing you all the best as you go forward.
As incredibly glad I am that you focused your main PCT videos on experiences, I have to admit I was hoping for this 😁
Best quick gear review I’ve seen. So grateful for the timing of this. 🙏🌳🦋
Yay I was so excited to see the notification for your video! I love hearing every thru-hikers opinion on gear bc I am so indecisive so this will help me in a few years when I do my first thru-hike :)
One of the best, if not the best video series of the PCT! You are very talented and I love your personality! Thank you for sharing!! I look forward to future videos from you!
Cheers from San Diego!
Great gear vid Elina....you make people smile...looking forward to your next adventure...!!!
I absolutely loved watching your entire series, I am a keen and experienced British backpacker, but have only ever long distance trekked here in the UK. Planning the PCT for the distant future, mainly because of this channel! I hope you set out on more adventures friend!
Your videos are absolutely terrific. Congratulations on everything from your journey to putting this series together. While the hike videos are obviously epic, this one might take the cake production-wise. The editing is stellar as is your commentary. Again, congrats on it all. You have a lot to be proud of. Cheers and be safe, everybody.
You have quite a talent for producing entertaining videos. Thanks for sharing.
Love your Pct videos. I love your story telling style. I plan on hiking the pct in April 2022, so thank you for the inspiration 😊
You have done a very good job all around - video clips, edit, narration/script, framing, etc. nicely done. I’ve watched about an hour of your videos today. I’ve talked with hundreds of PCTers over the years. So I understand second hand about hiking the PCT. I’ve done a few hikes in the Sierras.
Elina! I loved this video- breath of fresh air.
This is so great. Love the intro, love the info, love the insights. This video alone makes me want to hike the PCT, so that's saying something. Cheers from a (descended) Kiwi on my Dad's side!
Ah man, I love your take on gear! I hope one day I can do such an extended hike, as I feel that it really influences the type of gear you use.
Hope your Mom is doing well. She is in my prayers.Enjoyed watching.
So helpful Elina, that 2019 year, was when I started following hikes on the PCT, deciding I wanted to do this too. I had hiked 26 miles when I was 12 in Maine, that was my longest hike. I started day hiking alot over the years, and will do this when my daughter goes off to college, which could be as soon as a year or so from now, so I'm planning pretty far out. Glad you got to do this, and great video, well edited, love it!
Great Video Elina! I remember watching you before you started in San Diego (Campo). I did all of OR in july and stopped at PCT Days at the Locks. Thrills and Chills, Frights and Delights is the PCT. All the best.
Hello Elina, this was a very informative and entertaining video.
All the very best to you. Stay safe and healthy.
Awesome vid! Fun, informative, totally enjoyed it. Happy to have found your channel!
You are so inspiring 🥰 love your attitude. Cant wait to see future content 💕
love your lust for life. i totally binged watched your whole project. 100% fell in love with it. BRAVO!!
That was the most entertaining gear review videos I have ever seen. Bravo 👏
So true😂
I truly enjoy watching and listening to your vids E.....you have a very unique way about you....I can see you as a great spokes person for the outdoors and active wear / gear...!!!
Another nice video. Thanks for sharing. Good Luck, Rick
Ah this is so helpful!! Also we loved following along with the PCT vlog! easily the best!!!! The Osmo is amazing!!
Phenomenal job! Also your color grading is super sick
Really awesome video, production, content, and vibe. Keep it up!
I second that, but what would you say about our content?
Enjoyed following your journey. Informative video. Thanks for sharing.
I love your videos!! I’ve been wanting to do the PCT for the longest
The absolute best vlog on hiking on youtube. Congrats you nailed it.
Just found this vlog. I live in New Zealand 😊
I used to watch Homemade Wanderlust, she hiked the Appalachian Trail, the PCT, and others, and did daily videos. They were really great, just I thought you might like them too, if you haven't seen them.
Fantastic video-well shot, concise, and informative. Thx!!! 🙌💯
I would LOVE a video on contacts/ glasses on the trail! What worked/ what didn't, what you would do next time? That would be SO helpful! Thank you!!
You've made me want to hike this trail, thanks so much
Ok pause it right there... 15 seconds in I'm amazed and intrigued. Can't wait to see the rest!
Kinda of interested to know how you managed periods while on the trail...birth control, menstrual cups, biodegratable tampons?
I'm pumped!! Take me with you on another PCT trip! 😃
Love all your work. Now that I know you are a photographer at all makes so much more sense. 8:41 Wow!
Such an entertaining gear video! Really enjoyed it.
That had to be scary buying all your gear online and sending to the US not even trying it out first. But it sure did work! Great videos . Always rewatching! Thanks again for sharing.
Absolutely terrifying. I'm very stoked it did 😂 & thank you!
Great video. Well done!
Beautiful Video 👍👍👍
Nice list, thanks! :)
:) I always love seeing gear from other women's perspectives (so many gear vids by men). Thanks for doing your thing and for creating beautiful videos!
How can a gear video be so mesmerizing?
Loved your video! Arohanui!!! More please 😊👍🏼
One of the greatest trail names in the history of hiking
We have the same contacts! I just forget about contacts on trail and just wear my glasses. They transition to sunglasses too, so that's another plus!
Wonderful Series. I am a 47 y/o dad of two and dream to walk those miles. Excellent filming and life living!
Cheers from Canada
I'm a mom of 3, but my day will come! Just believe you want to do it and go for it! 😁
How do you guys plan do to it with kids ? I've been thinking about it
@@myhokori358 I don’t know. Probably won’t.
Thanks for introducing that camera clip to me. One of the main reasons I sometimes choose not to shoot while hiking is constantly having to go in and out of my bag!
Great video. Thanks for sharing
Great video of your load out! Gear.
Thanks
Nice gear review - very aesthetic and creative.
Elina congratulations
Happy for you
Omg- the sound of sadness!!!! (Letting air out of your mattress in the morning).
That’s exactly what I called it when I hiked the PCT IN 2012. I guess it’s universal. :)
So glad you enjoyed your hike and enjoy your videos. Hike on.....
Tip Tap, from what I remember, you didn’t walk 2653 miles from Mexico to Canada... you ran!!! 👊😎
Awesome video! I would love to learn how you take those wonderful pictures and edit them. Your photography are so unique, sooo please teach us how. ;)))
Great videos and cool channel.Enjoyed it very much !!! Thank you.Looking forward for more....
awesome vid!
You are making me miss carrying just my essential/favorite things on my back!
darwin our savior lol he was the first thing i thought of when i saw your tent
Great content as always!
I would super LOVE a trail meal video hehe
Damn, Haze, grab those beers and get over there!!! (fresh off a section of the AT, talked about your series with other hikers over beers at Broken Fiddle)
Nice melly! Cheers from Colorado!
I walked the PCT the same year you did, would’ve love to run into you, I just happened to run into your videos, it’s my second time watching them
The Waymark, the z-packs tents, enlightened equipment quilt, thermarest pad - Darwin would approve! Sucks that it's so hard to get a lot of this lightweight stuff in Europe
There are also some ul cottage companies in Europe. Like liteway.equipment and www.gramxpert.eu
She stole his gear lol
ultralightoutdoor is a UK based site that does sell some dyneema tents and titanium cookwear!
She’s from New Zealand
Fun, great vid ! thanks
Give this lady her peanut butter lifetime sponsorship!! She's awesome!! :)
❤️❤️❤️ I am going to watch all you’r video’s a lot of time’s over and over and than give some good comment about how awsome and inspiring it is!! Still had to learn english grammer but to lazy to translate 😂
Sea to Summit has a rad new blow up system where the sleeping pad stuff sac is used to inflate it - aka no breaths required. It's one of those nifty things that is kind of wonderful at the end of the day.
I like that idea - no moisture and bacteria getting into your mattress.
Good one , thanks!
The place is very beautiful!
Even your gear vids are better than everyone els.
I LOVE your melenzana! CO represent!
Among all her stuff, the most solid gadget is her casio watch, that is the most reliable gadget.
Obviously. She should upgrade to the calculator version to add up those miles every day.
I really want to do this hike after watching all of these videos
Fantastic!
You allow me to dream. Thanks for everything.
Awesome great film thanks. I watched your whole series, loved it, gonna watch it again I’m sure. Great gear, I like that you’re not a gear perfectionist, roll with what works, and some thrift vibes. 20• EE quilt... Did it keep you warm? Considering an EE quilt myself. ✌️
Thanks mate! 100% find what works for you and roll with it. EE quilt - I found I was a little chilly some nights, but I do think those nights were because I wasn't using the two straps and cinching the hood. I still love mine? 😊
Loved your video, glad you popped up on my feed! if you want a sports bra recommendation I absolutely LOVE (and that’s an understatement) my Patagonia sports bra. It’s the only one I take with me while thru hiking and I’ll take it with me to this grave lol. They aren’t bulky but I still remove the pads and the bra has such a nice next-to-skin feel and dries quickly imo. Hope that helps! 😊
Great vid👌 peanut butter over everything!
Just found you today on this cold Auckland afternoon. Really enjoying and getting a lot out of your content. I’m planning to do the cape Reinga to Auckland section of the Te Araroa. Have you done any part of the Te Araroa?
awesome thaks for sharing
Utra BAD ASS!!! all the love to you!!!!
i love the 'tiger balm' part 😍😂
well done THANKS
Hey Elina, great job on the videos! I enjoy all the different flavors/flavours out there! What was your base weight at the beginning, and do you know what it was at the end? Thanks a bunch!
Quick tip, tiger balm works great if your nauseous. Put a little under you nose on your upper lip. The fragrance of it relieves nausea.
Your videos are always a treat, thanks Elina. By the way, does the footage of your interview with the man at 3:07 (mustard yellow down jacket) appear in one of your vids ? I met him a few times on the camino last year and would be curious to watch his interview. Cheers from France
