    You need to take some of that clear plastic roofing sheets and cover the outside of the mud room so that it stays warm and dry this winter. Attack them with screws do that you can remove them next Summer.

    The pole barn looks absolutely amazing and the mud room is coming along nicely. Might be worth making a seat on the other side to make life easier taking your boots off 👍

    I would cleat on some 6 mil clear plastic to dry it in. I used that on a cattle panel as an outside shower, and it lasted 3 years. I just changed it this summer. It also let's in plenty of light.

    That coat rack looks great Jay, Jen chose a beautiful piece of oak for the mud room projects, pole barn looks great too now the walls are done, and Jay you did right stopping when you did, you were tired and that’s when accidents can happen, hopefully that lightbulb works out too, you and Jen are an amazing couple, tfs x Julie 🇬🇧

    Our neighbors put up thick plastic and staple it to the outside of their screened room for the wintertime keep the snow out. Like the live edge for the coat rack and shelf. Guess I should have waited until the end of your video to mention the plastic.

    Definitely a good idea storing wood in the mudroom. I hope no chipmunk or mice make their home there. If you have more of that clear sheets you put on the gable in of barn put on mudroom to enclose it or thick plastic. ❤❤ Looked like a nice fall day.

    Jay, I would recommend a 100 watt socket mount heater, (I use one in our camper, and one under our wash machine in the garage) or 125 watt heat lamp. No sense wasting heat to produce extra light unless you need it, and get max heat production from your hundred watts.
    News from a professional slacker... Each year you get a bit more slack after 50, but won't qualify as a professional until late 60s or early 70s if you keep moving. I was in the military with a guy age 38 who went home and put on his pajamas, ate dinner/ supper, sat on the couch in front of the TV till going to bed. He was a bit of a slacker at work, but was more of a pro after leaving work and on weekends. (He died in his mid 60s.)

  • @chipprice1174
    @chipprice1174 10 місяців тому +2

    As said below, that's what I'd do also, I think snow will blow in and rain too, thru the screen. And as you said, you were gonna use plastic, I use the same polycarbinate as you did on the pole barn, but make like picture frames and put in some screw in studs so you can take them down in the summer if you want to, and just store them in the pole barn. I know my dad did something similar at his beach house, except he used plywood for boarding up when a hurricane was expected. I think also, boxing in around your pipes would be a great idea for winterizing the pipes, and, will make the light bulb work a lot better. Some cheap plywood and some 1: foam board glued to it would work great!. You might also(if they don't require too much power, wrap the water items up with heat tape. for the filters and pump, you could get some of those 12v heat pads that they sell to stick to engine oil pans to keep them warm. Surely they tell the power consumption where ever yo order them from.

    For your water pipes, have you thought of using heat tape? I am thinking about using it when I get to running the plumbing for my cabin. Besides, it'd be fun to see Jay crawl back under the cabin again, he seems to enjoy that a lot, LOL.

  • @airman6822
    @airman6822 10 місяців тому

    Note to self...make my crawl space taller...LOL. Nice work on all the stuff. Taking some of that silver stuff and enclosing the pump and bulb would make a big difference down there. Maybe some heat trace on the pipes? Like the mud room, just need to keep the rain and snow out for the winter. Maybe attach some clear plastic to a wood frame then it can be taken on and off whenever? Cheers!

    Great idea guy’s for hanging your coats when they’re either all wet or covered in rain so you don’t take it all inside with you. Your boots as well. Gonna be really nice having a few days of wood right there. I think you’re gonna like it so much you’re gonna want to make it bigger. Lol. If it were me the only thing I think I would do is maybe put something up on the outside so on real windy days the snow or rain doesn’t blow all inside of there. Some plastic or some of that clear plastic you have would be really good.

I also love the coat rack and wood storage in the mud room. I have to agree with some other comments about making a bench seat, it could even have a hinged lid/seat so you could store stuff in it. Have you considered running a vent hose from near the top of your stove pipe to your water pump and have it run 24/7off of a 12v dc fan.
    Then have your water hose run into your house inside the air vent.
    The UA-cam channel little house off grid has a video of how he does it.

      I was actually considering running the bathroom vent fan down to that area. Maybe??

    I bet one of those diesel heaters would work a lot better than a light bulb. I’ve seen a lot of UA-camrs posting about installing them.
