Jay is the type of guy that any guy would love to have as a buddy. That's half the reason I watch this channel. I feel like I'm hanging out with one my buddies. Thanks Jay man.
Jay…..as a lifelong builder and craftsman, both personally and professionally, it was easy for me to see in the beginning that you were a novice with tools, building, etc…. BUT, the other thing that I also immediately saw, was that you were always willing to jump right in, give it a shot, learn and work hard. You didn’t let the fear of “not knowing” shut you down. Fast forward to today, and NOW I see a much more confident, able and effective worker. It’s a beautiful thing to see, my man. Keep going, keep learning, keep growing. You will continue to get better and better. Awesome job Jay!
Thanks so much Dan. I really appreciate getting comments like this from people who have experience. Some choose to hammer me, others, like you, lift me up. Jay
Hi Jay, floor structure looking great. My engineering mind would suggest that you put some cross bracing across from top to bottom diagonals on your columns under the flooring that will stop the lateral movement. Looking forward to Labrador updates all the best from Australia.
Love that you went all in on the channel and congrats on the Jackery sponsorship. Quitting your job to do what you were meant to do is an inspiration. Your recent growth spurt is well deserved!
Jay, I’ve been watching for about 4 years. I have an idea, lol. I think it would be less stressful than building the addition walls etc in the winter! Put your canvas hit tent on the addition for the winter. Then remove it and set it up on that property next summer, ‘25. One of the first things I would have done to that property is clear the trees blocking your view of the lake!!!!!!! That is a high value feature totally being blocked! Love watching you grow!!
going home is the best feeling.. the places.. the people.. the plans that were on hold.. and new things to do.. rewind and reprioritize... you have a good one.. stay safe.
When you first started woodworking in the tent, I must say that you have improved a lot since you first started. You have done an excellent job on the new deck. One thing I would have done differently is to use noggins between your joists. It helps to prevent the floor from being bouncy and stops your joists from twisting.
@@brianbrowning6615 Read back on the thread. I didn't say he couldn't. I was just providing another, more common name for noggins. But honestly, trying to add them from under the floor now that the decking has gone down is going to be a *lot* more work. More work than removing the decking to add them IMO. But again, I was not commenting on him not having them. I was just providing the more common name of blocking.
Jay, as somebody who lives in the UK, I love what you are doing, You are an inspiration, it's a pleasure to watch you doing what you clearly love, please take care out there brother.
The extension is looking good, Jay. Fun watching you learn and figure things out even though not perfect still functional and that's all that matters. I do recommend at least 1 of a 1/2 bolt with washer and nut on inside on each post in both directions to hold the main structure together throughout the years. The winters will make easy work of those nails and screws being down in the moisture of snow and rain. Can't wait to see the vlog videos back at your home. Don't forget to let us know when your Michelin Star arrives for those fine meals your cooking, as they look so good when watching yet simple.
You should be proud of yourself for making a dream come to life. For someone who wasn’t building as a progression, you nailed it, No pun intended. Looking forward to the finished project .
It's hip to be square Jay. Also read (Hakai mag) that grizzly bears have swam across to Vancouver Island and set up home. They heard about your new cabin 😮😂
Jay, I want to congratulate you on you journey. I started following over 3 yrs ago my first video was Saw Tent In Freezing Cold. Wood Stove Chicken Stew., To watch you grow this channel and know that you have helped me to live my dream to. I like that you just go for it and make things happen, Thank You also you take me out of the hustle of life to calm things down. Have a great trip home and we will See You On The Next One!
Congratulations Jay, it’s been fun watching you do all the work at the cabin this year. You’ve done a great job and it’s been very enjoyable to watch. I always look forward to the notifications of a new video. You should be proud of what you accomplished, especially for someone who is not in the trades and you had to figure out all yourself. Great job and I look forward to your journey.
What a fantastic job you did on that floor all by yourself!! All of these jobs all by yourself!! Wow!! I really can’t wait for the next video! Yes! Bolony sandwiches, yes!! Have a safe trip see you soon!
Wow Jay you've done amazingly well on the cabin this year, extension is great. So looking forward to seeing the tent again, keep doing what you're doing mate. See you in the next one 👍
I love how the Northern Lights fill nearly the whole video screen. Beautiful! And your journey is one of several which inspire me as I transition into retirement in a few years. By transition, I mean pay off everything in the next two years and prepare to live on my own skills. You are by no means close to retirement age. I’m already past it, but have kept working because I enjoy teaching. However, that tug to have a lighter schedule is definitely pulling at me. Stay safe and thank you for the videos.
The floor really changes the whole perspective of the cabin. I’m already chomping at the bit for your return. Looking forward to the Labrador videos. Safe travels.
Jay you are doing incredible, I never could have figured all of that out , just the formula for getting it square , and dropping down 2 steps , and having everything level and plumb . I will say I never quit , if something isn't turning out the way it should I keep at it till it is right .. Great Job !
I hope that you get many years of enjoyment, Jay, from your cabin, deck, etc. Your heart is really into your renos. Looking forward to your next video.
Honestly it brings tears to my eyes. I am so happy for you. You are doing a wonderful job. Thank you. I love watching your videos. Enjoy Labrador. Sit back put your feet up have a drink. Take care
Awesome job on the framing and flooring. No better way to celebrate than a nice fried bologna sandwich. No better feeling than seeing the successful result of thoughtful planning and hard work. Many years ago, as a lad of 10 years of age, I helped my Dad build the house I grew up in. Many of the tasks you're doing are what I did, chalk lines, nailing floors and walls, etc. That was 53 years ago, and that house is still occupied and going strong. Makes me proud of the work we did long ago. One day you'll be looking back on that cabin and thinking the same thing. You'll even have videos of your younger self doing the work and overcoming the challenges. (Hint: All the hard work is worth it in the end. The best is yet to come.) Thanks for bringing us along on the journey. Hearing that circular saw chewing through a piece of wood reminds me of the sweet smell of sawdust. 🙂
For a short moment there Jay, I thought you'd been having us on and that there was a main road behind your cabin. Then it turned out to be a plane. 😂 Great work brother. Love your work, determination and tenacity. Big love from the UK.

Great job Jay. Your addition should be a great room the view would be awesome. Also a nice set of french doors separating it from the kitchen would allow for a beautiful wood stove. Cant wait to see your travel vids.
Great job. So fun to follow along on your build. One tip on driving screws. Get some wax and drag your screws across the wax before driving them in the wood. You will be surprised how easily the screws will go into the wood. Also lubricate your hand saw with oil or paraffin and you will use less energy on each cut.
Jay I love that tent I had been watching for over four years. I go back and watch over and over. It never gets old or boring. So yes it is part of my life watching you grow.

YAY! I'm so glad you were able to accomplish all that you set out to do before the freeze. Your cabin addition is gonna be great. I hope you will do some tent videos again soon. I love seeing you out there, cutting down and processing wood, cooking and sleeping in the tent when it's freezing cold outside. It's just mesmerizing. I'm looking forward to the Labrador videos, too. The ones you made the last time you went were a lot of fun! Thanks, Jay, for this channel. As long as you make videos, I'll be watching them.
Jay,those clamps have really come in handy! And you’re finding new ways to use them. I noticed you are a perfectionist and detailed person. You remind me of Mr.Bush radical. Another excellent channel. Great characteristics to have.

Jay, love watching your channel from Downunder Australia, you're doing an awesome, not just on the cabin but on your videos too, keep up the great work, Craig
I’m super excited the see the Labrador videos Jay! I remember last year when you went and loved those too. The extension has really started to come together, it looks great and I too am so proud of just how far you’ve come! You went from building the staircase where you ran into several hiccups to building an extension, and outhouse and a tool shed, that’s a HUGE improvement! Safe travels ☺️
Hi jay great progress on the extension for the cabin, im sure gonna miss you while youre away but please have a great time at home and ill be here to watch when you come back xx
Jay, this is EASILY one of my favorite channels, all because you are genuine, with flaws like us all. So proud of your accomplishments this season. I'm looking forward to a bitter cold winter at the cabin, but I'm also in anticipation of those upcoming Labrador videos.
Awesome Jay. Watching u go from the dirt floor hot tent, to finding pallets for your new hot tent flooring, and now to this cabin. Loved all your videos since the beginning. You are my favorite youtuber and im glad to see so many new videos lately. Cant wait to see how this addition turns out!
Good job!! Have a great trip and we will see you soon! I can’t wait for winter! Heck, I can’t wait for a real fall-these 90 degree days are getting old!!
I feel your pride of your accomplishments....routing for you all the way! And love fried bologna sandwiches...you are a down to earth guy. I look forward to you sharing Labrador!
Hi Jay. At 4:00 watching you try to put the outer piece of wood on, I was thinking you needed more clamps. Your next words "I need about 10 more clamps". Great minds think alike! You are doing some awesome work!
Fantastic job, Jay. Hope you have a great trip. Will be looking forward to all the great videos that you are going to share with us. Stay safe and warm and all my best wishes to your family.
Nice work Jay, I’m one of those guys who does this kind of work alone too. Just a few observations, cribbing where I’m am at is considered a temporary support, but I understand that drilling a few more holes in the rock would be a PIA. Also, rather than nailing into your load bearing members, I would drill and use 1/2” carriage bolts. As a power lineman who has framed more power poles than I care to count, bolts last forever, and as the wood dries and shrinks the bolts can be tightened.
You have my VOTE with those NACHOS Jay, they looked delicious 😋 You have done an awesome job so far with that Extension .. you should be so PROUD.. Have a wonderful trip back in LABRADOR.. CHEERS ❤
Look at you go! Your channel has taken off! Been watching for years like many. One of my favorite episodes was when you took your mom out to the tent in winter, wasn't it? Not so long ago. You give hot dogs a good name.
Whenever I used to do a major project around the house I would think about it for a couple of months and fine tooth the plan in my head. Rarely would I draw out plans because they're in my brain. There would be mistakes sometimes but, if you're going slow you can catch them before they get major. New to your show and love it.
Great job on the extension, Jay!! You really did top notch work and it will last for a very long time! Good for you to accomplish your goals for the summer - you worked hard!! Enjoy Labrador! 😀
Jay: great job. Can't wait to see the finished room when you you can get back to it. Enjoy your trip to Newfoundland. Will be looking for any videos you post. You are definitely a hard worker & set your sights high when going for your goals. Glad I found your channel years ago when you were camping just in the tent - and did a great job with that. Have a great trip.

Awesome job! Only tips I can give you is to get you a plumb bob and a carpenter square. They will make your life alot easier! Love the videos

To do all this work alone, you should be very proud of yourself. Great job!
Thank you!

Sorry, but no. 🙃
I do! But I have from the very start. Especially when he was camping in the first tent when it was 30 degrees below outside.

I was glad to see that you were using hangers on the joists. I was instantly relieved. 😁
Jay, love watching your channel from Downunder Australia, you're doing an awesome, not just on the cabin but on your videos too, keep up the great work, Craig
@@craigrussell7620 another down under viewer here, we could say he is building it upside down. 🙃 Jay is doing a great job.
Hi from NWT canada!
Jay, that deck came out great. You've done one he'll of a job. You have a great and safe trip. Be looking forward to your next video.
Some day I will do the same for myself. I’m living vicariously through you. Keep up the great work
Jay Cross bracing is very important..throw a few under the main cabin to…Great place your building there
You'r evolving magnificently sir. Keep it up. It's a pleasure to watch your videos.
I generally watch my UA-cam videos at night in bed.
You’ve got me roaming around the kitchen looking for a late night snack showing those meals!
Great job bro!! Hard work and your persistence pays off!
Watching now. Love your channel Jay! Feel like we're in this together 😅
You have my VOTE with those NACHOS Jay, they looked delicious 😋
You have done an awesome job so far with that Extension .. you should be so PROUD.. Have a wonderful trip back in LABRADOR.. CHEERS ❤
Nice job Jay! Looking forward to seeing what's ahead for you.
Well done Jay! Looking forward to your adventures in the Big Land!
Right on Jay. Impressive. You're on your way friend..
Great job
Well done Jay coming along nicely.
