I'd consider it over the M50 MKII except for the flip-up screen vs. the articulating screen. Screen would get obstructed if mounting a mic or any other accessory on the hot shoe.
This video helped me a ton when I decided to buy the M6 Mark II. :) The video capabilities may not be as impressive as on Sony Alphas, but as you said, the ergonomics and the mobile app are excellent. Thanks a lot for the video!
@@hanoitripper1809 I did get the M50 and am happy with it. Don't really care about the 4k right now and the articulated screen on the M50 ...well I like it!
Hey, great videos but you probably need to update these videos as we know for a fact that Canon is phasing out the M series. The M6 MKII is already discontinued and obviously, we are not going to get any more EF-M lenses. I heard they might drag out the M50 MKII. I was torn between the M50 MII and M6 MKII, and thankfully decided to visit a Canon Store nearby. That's when I learnt about this. After a lot of research and considering my budget, I went with the Nikon Z50 because of the kit zoom lens. I know a lot of people complain about that lens, but I will upgrade when I reach that level. For now, I am extremely happy. ps: I am pasting this comment on a few more videos I watched so that it can help others too. Not attempting to spam or anything.
Hi. I’ve used both and I like the ergonomics on the mkii better. It’s bigger and more comfortable to hold. The grip is better. I hope that helps. Welcome to the channel.
I have a SL2 and M50. I just sold the SL2 and will be purchasing the M6 for a new primary camera. I recently shot several channel videos in 4k on the m50 and I am In love with the 4k quality and flexibility to edit in 1080 and reframe in post like a 3rd camera. The DP-AF will be awesome on the M6 for me as I already have an adapter and a speed booster. Great video... Another Ohio UA-camr! 👍🍻
You will LOVE the upgrade. Coming form the M50 where you have already figured out your lens selection (inc. adapter and speedbooster). You're going to pick this camera up and immediately smile. Like you said, the DPAF in 4K is a game-changer, and I just love NOT having to worry about AF at all (there's plenty of other stuff to pay attention to). Thank you for the kind words and I can't wait to hear what you think when you get it. O-H!
I have several questions regarding the M6. I was super on the fence between the 90D and the M6 MkII and your video comparison between the two really sold me on the M6 for one main reason. The Speedbooster adapter. My main use case will be up close 4k video indoors where space is a concern and the sensor's default crop factor would be a huge pain due to lack of maneuverability. The adapter seems to solve this somewhat and seems to have the added benefit of allowing a lower F stop which to me seems like its worth $$$$ just for that fact alone. My questions are though: 1. Does the adapter interfere with the built in Image stabilization, OR the any of the EF lens IS? 2. Have they addressed the audio levels issue where you could not adjust levels during recording? If so an external recorder might unfortunately make more sense? 3. How does it perform in low light. I saw a 4k video test of the 90D in low light at around 6k ISO and it had very little noise. The walkthrough in your video of the hotel looked fairly noisy but without knowing other parts of your setup its hard to blame it entirely on the camera. Would the Speedbooster with a fast lens improve noise at low light? Thanks for your super thorough review :)
Great review as usual, Sagi. Informative and all bases covered. The EF-M range of lenses now is half-decent so switching to a Canon mirrorless is certainly more tempting. I'll stick with my 200D and lenses....for now. :-)
Thank you Karl. Yes, that 32 f/1.4 is awesome and love that Sigma is getting in the game. Means other 3rd parties are next! Appreciate your insights as always.
Hey Sagi. Totally loved the review. As usual an outstanding, unbiased opinion on the M6 mkii functionality. I loved the stills and video shots and I like the Mexico scenes. Super quality. I see some of your crane M2 work too. It's a real shame canon didnt include the fully articulating screen we both like. In my opinion, this would have put the icing on the cake. The frame rate and 4K improvements provide good advantage over the M50, but it's still my camera choice based on the screen flexibility and price point. Take care Sagi. Keep smashing it..
Appreciate it Ray! Good eye there! If I had an M50 as my only camera I would look at it this way: if I want/need 4k or clean hdmi out, I would upgrade, otherwise, nope. Yeah, that screen would have been great. I'm getting the most out of this one though.
@@TechGearTalk Yeah. i get you. The reason why Canon have missed a trick here is the sales to vloggers. You are not going to use a 90D or large DSLR for vlogging. they're just too big for that. Even though the M6 mkii is slightly bigger as you've shown, it could still be the mirrorless vlog camera of choice for those who want 4K, a larger APSC sensor and the articulating screen. Now the screen is only flip up and not articulating this gives problems for external audio on top of the camera. If they had added that, then vloggers would have made the jump to the M6 i believe even given near the doubling of cost.
Good point. There will soon be brackets that take care of that. Not sure if you saw my live show on the M6 where I show how I get around the audio issue with the Rode wireless go
Unless you're in the US. But you can look at it this way: Instead of charging every person for a viewfinder they may not use, Canon is only charging the people who need it - just a thought.
I like that the EVF is optional, so I don't have to purchase it. It would be cool to have it as an option though. I rarely use a view finder. I prefer to use the touch screen to compose my shots. Great review. Thanks.
Its a solid content creator camera for youtube and social media, an easy go-to camera with very minor post editing. Not the best and not the worst it just gets the job done! I find Fuji to be better for client and artistic projects. And canon for more realistic shots
Great I really love this camera I agree on what you pointed out on pros and cons, bought this camera after watching some reviews and this is the one of the videos that pushed me to buy this camera over other competition. I also made an unboxing on m6 mark ii and its great! Btw. 24p is now available! Thank you for great review!
HI!! thank you for your video. I have the first M6 and because of your video review I went for it, that and the $330 price tag!! yes, when the M6II went out the M6 got a lot cheaper and the extra feautures were not that important for me since I have a D7500 Nikon, and I wanted a more "pocket size" but ended up with this, even do it is not any pocket size, but being able to change lenses gives me the idea of taking this much smaller body and be more happy than with my phone. Thanks!! I know a good purchase (buying the old model)
10:40 The Sony A6400 which is similarly sized manages to have an integrated EVF. Perhaps Canon should have ditched the pop up flash and use that space for a pop up EVF instead. Having an EVF is more important than having a flash.
Man, I ordered this camera from amazon yesterday and I’m really excited but after watching a few reviews and comparisons, I’m may have to end up returning it and going for the Sony a6400 instead. I originally went with this one cause of the ease of use and canon color grading but I really like the fact that the Sony doesn’t have a recording time-limit.
Excellent review there, I have been watching your videos off late , very crisp and clear and I'm addicted now, I would like to know as its almost 2yrs since M6MKII has been launched, will there be a MKIII launched soon, should I wait or just pick the MKII?
Amazingly in-depth review! Thank you! I’m looking at purchasing this as my first ever non-point-and-shoot camera, for use both to Vlog, as well as to learn photography. I’m going to check out some of your other videos now. I’m really interested in the speed booster you mentioned, while using the 11-22 lens. Thanks again and keep it up!
So glad you found the video helpful John. One thing, the Speed Booster is only available for lenses designed for DSLRs - so the 11-22 will not work. I need to create a video about that. Welcome to the channel!
Oh wow, thanks for the tip! Is there a speed booster that will work with the EF-M lenses? It seemed so when I was searching but this is all new to me. I appreciate the advice! I’ll go watch more of your videos. ;)
Glad I could help. No, there is no speedbooster that would work with EF-M lenses because of how it operates - it's not possible. Let me know if you have questions
Great video! I don't know a great deal about cameras but you explained it really well! I've had my eye on this camera since it came out and am definitely getting one soon 😊
I have a Canon EOS M6 and I am thinking it's time for an upgrade. I am considering the M6 II and the Fuji X-S10. I like the Canons specially considering that I have several good EF/EF-S/FD and even some OM lenses all of which I use with corresponding adaptors but I am tempted to jump ship to Fuji for its IQ, film simulations, impressive video specs and IBIS which would allow me to use all of my "vintage" manual lenses. Today I tried the Manual FD 50mm 1.4 on my M6 and noticed that the Digital IS is not available in manual mode... so my question is to verify that the M6 II does not have this limitation, i.e. that its digital IS works in all focus modes. All feedback greatly appreciated. Thanks. Cheers!
I just bought a m6 mark 2 and it will be delivered today. I am completely new to photography and cinema besides obvious cell phone auto. I'm all in right now at 1350$ but i feel i made a good decision on my first camera pick. Hopefully im correct haha. really enjoyed the information and views you give. keep up the good work man love the vids
I really like your videos explaining the devices. Would it be possible to make a video showing the M6 mk2 as a webcam with e.g. 32mm lens? To show what works and what does not with this camera, what are the challenges, e.g. with clean HDMI mode (with e.g. Elgato capture card) - this would be great to learn how this camera performs in this mode and how the end produce does look like. It would be very much appreciated.
Hi, the Canon M6 MKII has been discontinued, but what is its successor as a small vlog camera and is it still worth buying it new or used if I can find one? I currently have a Canon M50, so I already have the required glass. Thanks a lot for your feedback.
Actually you confirmed later in the video. Separate question, say I have a Diety mic that has the gain leve knobl, does moving the gain level while recording alter the audio recording in? Or do you still have to stop recording, then adjust?
Will it be suitable for a amateur I’m interested in taking wildlife photographs and photographs in the snow. Will it have a suitable scene selection I can chose?
I would consider this camera to replace my SL2 as opposed to going to an SL3. [I also have a 6d Mk2.] In the digital age, I have always used Canon and I am familiar with the menus, idiosyncrasies, etc. and, of course, have a series of lenses that would usable with the adapter. I have been considering moving to the Fuji lineup for the next APS-C camera, but this video got me back to thinking of just sticking with the investment of time, familiarity and resources (think lenses mostly) I have with Canon. I just need to hope Canon will not abandon the camera market as it continues to get clobbered by its overall mundanity
I support re-using all the lenses instead of doing a full switch (so hard to do). I love Fuji, (x-t30 and x-t3 if you've seen my reviews) and I'm also happy Canon released this camera. I want to see Canon release more fast ef-m lenses. That would let me know they are here to stay. So far, the 32 f/1.4 is awesome and I would get a Sigma 16mm f/1.4
For a beginner,, which would u recommend? Sony ZV 1 or the Canon M6 mark 2 or A6400? I’m a hairdresser and mainly I want to use the camera to shoot haircutting videos.. Thanks 🙏
Considering imaging capabilities of positioned models are just about the same, it’s the body design and how it fits in my hand I’m now considering in choosing get and go camera. At present, I’m using a used Sony a6300 with only a 20mm pancake lens attached to it. I think Sony hits the sweet spot design on their a6xxx models. And much more with the new a6600 sturdier top plate without the built in flash. It’s the larger grip and battery used in high end Sony models that separates it ahead from older a6xxx models.
Nice1 Yes, I really enjoyed using the a6600. Here is a day out with it: ua-cam.com/video/p9fYDrqZbyo/v-deo.html Thanks for being part of the community!
I'm sorry ...newbie here, how important is is the View Finder and when will Canon upgrade the 24 f/s in both 4k and 1080p, how good is the image stabilisation for outdoor vlogging, please help
Great review, appreciate the thoroughness of bridging the gap between tech and laymen. Can you recommend the best lenses to consider for filming/shooting softball games?
Glad you enjoyed the video. The answer depends on how you meant the question. If you truly want the best then we're looking at lenses that cost several thousand dollars - but unless you're getting paid for theme photos, you don't need those. If you're just doing this for fun, then you can take a look at the 55-200 as it will give you the most zoom in the ef-m line up (for now). Check out this video: ua-cam.com/video/2J4C_RDEg5Y/v-deo.html If you need even more zoom, then you can look at a Canon 70-300 (it's affordable but is an EF-S lens so it will require an adapter). Hope this helps. Thanks for being part of the channel!
Nice, Photos are really cool. But what about video? I am not sure that the record videos in your video on this Canon is something speciall. I am sorry about it. What do you think about recording videos on this? The preview looks little bad. And WHAT is better for videos? CANON M6 MARK II or SONY A6400? Rly thanks for answer. Thx
At 7:16 you say that you like that Canon added two top dials. What are you comparing it to? Compared to the M5 & M6, the M6 Mk2 actually lost a dial (exposure compensation) as they both already had two programmable dials. You mentioned a non-Canon PD-compatible power supply. Could you please post a link to it?
Hi Neil, thanks for watching. I was comparing it to the previous super popular EOS M M50 release. Description updated with links to the power supplies.
Quick question. My display screen use to be on while using HDMI. Now I can view on display screen when HDMI connected. Did I accidentally change a setting?
Tech Gear Talk Thanks. I am shooting with an ND filter and would be helpful when transitioning from outdoors to indoors when vlogging to know if the iso is being boosted too high that it is worth the effort to unscrew it.
That makes sense. I think you can probably assume that you don’t want it inside - because why not shoot at a lower iso (other than the inconvenience of unscrewing the filter)
Another amazing review - you did not mention the lack of the EVF and the implication of losing the hotshoe for the EVF making external flash usage impossible....

Thanks for your huge effort spent to build this amazing review for us all!
This video helped me a ton when I decided to buy the M6 Mark II. :) The video capabilities may not be as impressive as on Sony Alphas, but as you said, the ergonomics and the mobile app are excellent. Thanks a lot for the video!
I'm super glad it was helpful Tony! Thank you for the kind words and for being part of the community 🙏 Enjoy your M6II!!!
Your videos are easy to watch and easy to understand. Great content !
Hmmm, was really looking at the M50...tthis one is nice but no articulated screen! Very good information you offer!
Glad the video is helpful! I still ended up using this over the M50. But only if I wanted 4k
What did you get? I also was set on the M50 but now im not sure!
For now, I am extremely happy.
ps:
I am pasting this comment on a few more videos I watched so that it can help others too. Not attempting to spam or anything.
this sounds like a great canera, I had the M6, how would you compare it to the M6II in terms of ergonomics? I know the rest is better...
O-H!

Great review now I am going to buy the M6 over the M50 👌🏽👏🏽
Glad I could help! Enjoy it and Thanks for being part of the channel!
Tech Gear Talk Wow thanks for the time you take to respond, thats golden 🙌🏽
I have several questions regarding the M6. I was super on the fence between the 90D and the M6 MkII and your video comparison between the two really sold me on the M6 for one main reason. The Speedbooster adapter. My main use case will be up close 4k video indoors where space is a concern and the sensor's default crop factor would be a huge pain due to lack of maneuverability. The adapter seems to solve this somewhat and seems to have the added benefit of allowing a lower F stop which to me seems like its worth $$$$ just for that fact alone.
My questions are though:
21:49 Wow, you live in the future!
What do you mean?
You said m6 mark 3 😅

canon m6 mark ii vs sony a6600 which better?
The a6600 is more powerful
One of the best if not the very best video I have seen regardless of topic. Thank you!
Oh wow… thank you so much 🙏🏻 appreciate you being part of the channel.
Thanks for this! Perfect explanation.
Glad you liked it Matt! This is an awesome camera!
Why can’t they just keep the design of the m50
different lines. We'll have an m50 mk ii ua-cam.com/video/C8q_dxRvYNo/v-deo.html
Not sure if you saw my live show on the M6 where I show how I get around the audio issue with the Rode wireless go
Lack of EVF included takes it to another level of price range too.... Not a fan of Canon doing that
Unless you're in the US. But you can look at it this way: Instead of charging every person for a viewfinder they may not use, Canon is only charging the people who need it - just a thought.
I bought a kit and have the EVF for free as said in the vid (in France). Very happy with this little thing...
@luthval - glad you like it!
Watching this in 2021 and you’ve definitely helped clear all my doubts about this camera
I’m going to get 💃🏻🔥 thank you
Hi Can you please compare M6 MK2 and Sony A6x series with Fuji Xt200?
This video was perfection, i'm grabbing this baby in the next few weeks for my youtube !!
I like that the EVF is optional, so I don't have to purchase it. It would be cool to have it as an option though. I rarely use a view finder. I prefer to use the touch screen to compose my shots. Great review. Thanks.
I really appreciate you taking the time to watch and share your insight. Thank you for joining the community 🙏
Great video! If you connect an external monitor via the hdmi, does the camera screen go black like it does on the M50?
Its a solid content creator camera for youtube and social media, an easy go-to camera with very minor post editing. Not the best and not the worst it just gets the job done! I find Fuji to be better for client and artistic projects. And canon for more realistic shots
Appreciate you watching and sharing your perspective - you're definitely contributing to this community and I'm grateful.

I'm so glad the videos have bee helpful! CONGRATS on the new camera 👊
This was very good review on M6mii. So good that I just got one .Many thanks
10:40 The Sony A6400 which is similarly sized manages to have an integrated EVF. Perhaps Canon should have ditched the pop up flash and use that space for a pop up EVF instead. Having an EVF is more important than having a flash.
I just bought this camera as I heard good things about it, but is sad about sound, cause it would to be able to change as you go! 😁
I love the way you summarize your videos
I'm so glad it's useful. Thank you for the input 🙏
Why the video footage of the m6 looked a bit bad and like a smartphone camera ?
Man, I ordered this camera from amazon yesterday and I’m really excited but after watching a few reviews and comparisons, I’m may have to end up returning it and going for the Sony a6400 instead. I originally went with this one cause of the ease of use and canon color grading but I really like the fact that the Sony doesn’t have a recording time-limit.
If the time limit is a real thing for you, then the a6400 is the way to go. But as far as the actual color... I'd go with the M6mkii.
I'm still in doubt about those two. Is the sony color in raw difficult to fix with Lightroom or Photoshop?
So glad it was helpful Annie! Thanks so much for being part and supporting the channel!

Canon m6 mark ‼️ vs Sony a6400, which is better ?
Would you use an M50, M6 Markii, or an R for product photography? Thanks
Not that I'm planning on getting this camera. But I still liked to watch the video. Great work

Hi, the Canon M6 MKII has been discontinued, but what is its successor as a small vlog camera and is it still worth buying it new or used if I can find one? I currently have a Canon M50, so I already have the required glass. Thanks a lot for your feedback.
Hi sir, for wildlife which one is good, Canon 90D, M6 II and Sony a6400, out these 3 camera which one is good for wildlife.
At 21:47, what’s that small meter on the bottom left? Is that an audio meter?
Actually you confirmed later in the video. Separate question, say I have a Diety mic that has the gain leve knobl, does moving the gain level while recording alter the audio recording in? Or do you still have to stop recording, then adjust?
Hi Jose. You can definitely adjust the gain on the Diety mic while recording, just watch the levels and you're all set.
I love ur honest review sir... It's good for short film making??

Hi Brett - thank you for watching and for the feedback about the video and the channel. I'm grateful that you're a part of this community!

Very detail review. Tempted to buy.
Make sure clean HDMI output is turned on.
Thanks for a grerat review! Which gimbal did you use on 5:33, it looks good! Im thinking about getting M6 MKII for video work :-)
Is there a way to see what ISO the Auto is selecting when you are in video mode?
Not that I know of
Tech Gear Talk Thanks.

Very comprehensive unbiased review. I love my M5 and the only thing keeping me from buying the M6ii is the lack of a built-in viewfinder. Dual cards I can overlook as this wouldn't be my professional use camera and I'm waiting for a 7Dii mirrorless replacement. My Fujis are good enough for professional work for now.
