Dr. Ralph Stanley and the Clinch Mountain Boys are the absolute best!
Thanks for uploading this, it's really hard to find videos with my dad and Ralph singing together on here.
Sammiejo your dad in my opinion was Ralphs best lead singer. His phrasing and feel are impeccable. And he can sing a Keith Whitley song with the same emotion. He's one of my favorite underated singers of all time..I enjoyed the few times we appeared at festivals together and got together and jammed. Tell your dad hello from Travers Chandler.
Sammy Adkins is such a great vocalist. Def one of Ralph's best lead singers. It's between him and Charlie Sizemore.
@@raynothstine7649 aww man I think they are all good bringing something different
Watch him all over grade schools all over Eastern Kentucky when I grew up

Thanks for sharing! Great show
Awesome video - great quality & rare to see Ralph in a club setting - Thanks for this, it's made my day...
How you doing there have you shared with the group this great show
Are you new to bluegrass? Ive seen Ralph many times growing up in very small club settings.
he used to play the diner club in Lexington in 77
He played at my firehouse in the late 90s.
Sammy is awsome 👍
wow, in just a short 11 years Curley Ray Cline aged tremendously in this video. WOW. he used to play the fiddle hopping and dancing around with a contagious smile on his face......what happened????
My grandpa got curly ray drunk on moonshine he said the drunker he got the faster he would play and hop around
Hes probably sober here so thats why hes not moving around
@@edhurt8133 wow, he could play FASTER after drinking!! I bet he was sauced in the KET performance in Lexington called Bluegrass-Bluegrass !!!!! What a performance and hopping episode it was !!! In fact, he did look possibly like he'd been drinking. Keith Whitley was hammering them down as well back then.
@@dabneyoffermein595 yeah them bluegrass boys were big drinkers.. That's how keith whitley got a bad habit that eventually killed him
@@edhurt8133 Whitley was a Clinch Mountain Boy, a Bluegrass boy and in other bands too. He had lots of opportunity to score babes and hammer shots. He grew up way too fast. But alcoholism could have been in his family.
Sammy doesn't get the love or respect his talent deserves, he's outstanding here with Ralph.
His name is right on his guitar strap for all the world to see. Can't imagine anyone not giving him love and respect 🤷♂
I miss Roy Lee Centers
Yes his voice was awesome and his end story was incredibly sad
Yes I wish he was still here... but in my opinion he was the very best that Ralph had to come along after Carter
Perfect!
Junior can sure play that guitar
yes
they are all good
@@berthaturner9098 Indeed they are. Curly still going strong. 22 years after the death of Carter.
18:42 Sammy singing Mountain Rosa Lee!
Thanks to "American Pickers" I discovered in my opinion the greatest man in Bluegrass beside Bill Monroe. But maybe Ralph Stanley is more the original sound?
Bill Monroe has a museum, what a great place that is.
american pickers? why would that show remind you of bill
he could still play great banjo at this advanced age. is the lead singer still alive (the one from SANDY HOOK KY)?
Yes Sammy Adkins is still alive and well still playing the old time music you hear on here.
@@DonBurtonDonGBurton thank you Don!!
I watched him perform about 20 years after this.
Ralph at 26:32 holy cow!
Thanks for uploading. If you're going to upload an entire live performance/concert, please include the set-list in the description. It's generally more helpful.
how can he play that banjo at that age?
He was only 61 when this video was made. What are you, twelve years old?
@@kafesociety1759 Oh, my bad, wouldn't have guessed that. he's amazin'
guitar dont go very well with blu grass
I don't know why Ralph was always introduced as Dr. Ralph Stanley, this was only an honorary title given him. A lot of Bluegrass Musicians have been given these honorary titles, but Ralph was the only one I can recall ever being introduced in this manner. Rather pretentious, I think.
@@ritasweeney9608 He. Was one of the best.
Blend may be the best
