Saw the last show of the tour in San Francisco and bought the same shirt you are wearing. It was electric. I’d seen them four times before and none had this feel, the merch line snaked up the stairs to the loge. The audience gave a crazy long ovation and “Opeth! Opeth!” chant after Leper Affinity - the second song!
And the setlist was a no-bullshit greatest hits that I think a lot of people checked in advance and came pumped in anticipation.
    Epic performance!

Dude, your description totally matches the experience of my son and I at the DC show. And every respect. Band was taken aback by response from the crowd on a Sunday night. Very rowdy, happy crowd. Felt almost intimate like a few jazz cats in a small room, but a big old Gothic room.you seem to have had the same experience, but with the camera up front!
DC felt special. Like it was more fun that the band expected kind of vibe.

Yes saw them in New Orleans Last Week. He did say the same thing about the Chairs. They were really playing and gelling. I was surprised how much he talked to the crowd. You could tell he was enjoying himself. They Played the Fillmore which is an old building. The sound was so awesome. The new drummer played awesome. But when you know the songs so well. Some of his fills was is own style. Also I was so amazed how Heavy S3 was live compared to the album release.

I saw them in Worcester MA on this tour. Mikael didn’t make the same comment about the crowd as he did in Atlanta. However, this was a very special show. The best concert I have ever been to. In fact, they honored tickets from a show they were supposed to play in February 2020 at the same venue. Mikael was sick that day, and the show was cancelled.
Funny thing was, my friend and I showed up to find a sign on the door that the show was cancelled so we decided to walk over to a local Mexican restaurant. We ended up being seated right next to Opeth - the entire band!

I had the pleasure of seeing them in Phoenix, AZ in this little tiny dive bar called The Mason Jar - It was 2003 I believe. They came with Nevermore - We were 2 feet from them, the stage was like... 3 inches higher than the floor of the bar. I believe someone had taped it and it might still be here on UA-cam. It was....... SO AMAZING! I feel so fortunate and lucky to have seen such an amazing band in such an intimate setting! If you can find it I highly recommend it - It was great! :)

Opeth is my main jam. I'm old - 51 - so I grew up with Maiden/Metallica/King Diamond. But around 2004-05, with NuMetal in retreat, I just didn't have a band I could really connect with. Then I read a review of Opeth, and blindly bought Blackwater Park. They're not touring around Minneapolis this round, but I've gotten to see them a few times. My fav was also the tour with Mastodon -I got on a plane for that one. The Wang Theater in Boston where I grew up. That's a fancy fuckin' venue for metal, so I wore an Opeth tuxedo. Rawk on man. If you live in Atlanta, go hit the Claremont Lounge and tip a stripper for me.

Blackwater Park is my absolute favorite. I don't know what an Opeth tuxedo is but it sounds awesome and I want one.
I went to Atlanta one weekend for a two night concert experience. The first night was Cognitive and Hath at a small venue. The next night was Gojira and Deftones. I stayed in the nice hotel that got built above the Clairmont. That was a fun weekend. 😆

I was wondering, its a longshot but I saw Prong in Atlanta on the "Cleansing" tour (yeah 30 years ago) at a place that had three stories with different kinds of music going on on each floor. I want to say that Prong played on the 2nd floor, but my ears are still ringing from Tommy Victor's extraordinary live tone. This sounds like The Masquerade. If it was, that building eventually became unsafe and it closed. However, it has reopened in "underground" Atlanta. It's still three different stages (now 4) Heaven (big venue), Hell (medium), Purgatory (small), Altar (intimate).
I have a lot of great memories at that old Masquerade. I'm so happy it reopened and they have even bigger shows now thanks to their modern facilities, but some of the "old dirty rock club" vibes are gone unfortunately.

Have the ability to stop time. Theyre breathtaking. And yes in my time of need is a staple now because it is like a religious experience ( ive done alot of psychedelics too 😂)
They dropped confetti for it with an intense light show when they opened for mastodon last year. Akerfeldt was headbanging doing the rock star thing responding to our energy. They did a two song encore (likely planned 😂) but it added something. How many shows do you demand encore and half the crowd leaves as you PLEAD! 🫣 Not this set… everyone stayed. I met two 75+ year old grandmothers who brought their grandsons. It was his first concert. I was stunned they possessed numerous elderly woman to come out on a cold fall night to listen to prog death metal. Only opeth can pull that off. ( i mean mother hen grandma’s. Just had to comment here cause i could not comment there. Regarding Rittenhouse in the Alan interview, no he was not initially acting under self-defense. The first person he shot threw a bag of dirty clothes as I recall, and while he was chasing him (he did have mental issues) he was no real threat to kyle's life, nor was he close enough to attack when the shots were fired. Kyle even shot him twice and could have left it at that but pulled the trigger again when the man was down and incapacitated and finished the job.
These are just facts, look it up yourself.

Although I'm swedish I'd hardly ever heard of Opeth until I visited a tribute show for the late Philip Lynott of Thin Lizzy in Stockholm. Thin Lizzy's drummer Brian Downey was there and as they were about to play the song "Black Rose" they announced "Fredrik Åkesson of Opeth" on guitar. I was so impressed by his playing I thought I had to discover Opeth.
My first love was Pale Communion and I'm more in to their new proggy style rather than "Blackwater park", but I cam more and more relate to that era. I would recommend Pale Communion if you like prog. Ghost Reveries if you're into more heavy stuff. So many things I enjoy with Opeth, but mostly I believe it is their independence and freedom to create whatever they wish! Like Frank Zappa but metal! My music preference is somewhere between those peers: Frank Zappa, Thin Lizzy, Opeth and a swedish indie band named Bob Hund.
Seeing Opeth at "Circus" in Stockholm February 11. First Opeth show ever for me.
