Thanks to interviewer for the intersting questions that differs from the one we ear every time. Effort was made so that both of them had the opportunity to express their feeling about music, which is not always the case from what i've seen in other interviews.
Yes but maybe not necessary to talk about GR as Fred wasn't a part of that. And the first ever Opeth gig. Both took up a lot of time and Fred sort of sits there a bit pointlessly.
Glad you asked Fred about his solos and approach, because a lot of the time in these dual-interviews these questions don't come up. Fred is one of the best guitar players on this planet currently.
This interview is hilarious, especially when Mikael talks about their first gig😃. It's such a fun story, particularly the way he tells it - he's truly a talented, natural comedian and performer!
The new album is one of their BEST of all time. I’m a 20+ year fan. Oldpeth purist. This album f*cking BLEW MY MIND. I am floored. You all will love it. Far exceeded all expectations.
Mikael is one of my favorite guitarists up there with Alex Lifeson. He should never be self-deprecating with his ability. Though I understand it, because I do the same thing in certain areas of my life where it doesn't make sense.
Ian Anderson isn't a recluse any more than he ever has been. He still plays live constantly. I interviewed him last year for my podcast and he was amazing. Him and Opeth together is just incredible.
I love Opeth. I cannot wait until they come back to Chicago. They both are so humble and excellent with what they do. The album is so crazy, heavy, epic and rhythmic. It is absolutely mind blowing, even for Opeth. The melodies are beautiful as always with Opeth. Production is wonderful and it is all layered so nicely. Glad to have bought a copy and a T-shirt. They deserve all their success. Very unique and one of a kind band.
I enjoy watching these guys talking, they are down to earth, really all the oppposite of rockstars or popstars, they put all their energy in making intelligent, complex, beautifull music. By the way I listened to Netflix CLARK SoundTrack.....Awesome.
Great interview, nice and casual. I like when an interviewer puts someone at ease to chit chat, but also allows them the space to answer questions thoroughly.
@@henrywalton5967he plays a bit of a cocky character live but otherwise he's always been pretty humble. at least as humble as you can be when you wrote Still Life
Mike is always both honest and humble, despite his obvious and extremely impressive skills, but I still find it hard to believe that he actually doesn't see himself as "a good anything" when, as countless fans surely agree, he's doubtless one of the very best musicians and lyricists, not just in metal, but in all of music... ever... and has been on that level at least since Morningrise which Opeth made when Mike was in his early 20s. Also, now I'm particularly looking forward to the mentioned outro solo, it's going to be really interesting to hear what Blackmore and Gilmour filtered through the mellow mindset of Fredrik sounds like.
Yeah great interview all around but that particular bit was really annoying, saying he doesn't consider himself good at anything, like what are you even saying? i don't believe it for one second, he knows he's an incredibly good musician, just for the attention and love he gets, he is able to conclude as much. Sounds like fake humility to me
@@explosivx43 He's probably exaggerating quite a bit there, let's put it that way... perhaps for comedic effect. However, Mike has also said, in other interviews, that he's a shy guy, and yet he's the frontman of a band that regularly performs on big stages all over the world. To be both "shy" and "frontman of a metal band" seems contradictory, and of course, when you see him on stage where he acts like a comedian half of the time (while he's not performing a song) you hardly think "Aww Mike, why are you so shy?" But I would still say that both when he claims he's a shy person and "not a good anything" he's expressing something that comes from an honest place, perhaps a place of low self-esteem or self-doubt which I think are common traits in practically everyone active in the creative fields.
Mikael & Fredrik both incredibly talented musicians. Everytime I listen to Opeth's music it makes me want to play guitar they write some of the most innovative prog music I've ever heard I will always be an Opeth fan! Great interview \m/
Very interesting interview. Good questions. You don't see that everyday. I love to see and hear these two gentlemen speak. They are so well skilled and still very modest.

Great interview. Like the focus Fredrick got about the guitar playing. Mikael is the worst at answering the nitty gritty guitar questions. Mikael felt very happy to let Fredrick answer them too. Great interview…
They've done what so many other bands have tried to do. This the album that is like a coupler between the prog/deth era, and the full on prog era. It's basically the musical representation of the tree on the cover art for Heritage. The death vocals are the roots that reach all the way to hell, but the tree itself is alive and still bearing fruit. Comparing it to anything is useless because there is nothing like it. If you like either era, I think you'll find plenty to like but I do offer a word of caution, dont think you're about to hear Blackwater Park II, and don't listen to it until you have to play it at least a couple listens all the way through. It's very complex, and it takes a few listens before it begins to reveal itself. Amazing record for sure.
Or maybe he has so much self-confidence that he isn’t afraid to show his weaknesses and uncertainties (which everyone usually struggles with but tries to hide). I really appreciate his humble honesty:)

Fredrik always looks so serious when sitting there. Then he starts talking and its like a new person. LOL
He's really chill and hilarious, and they both have such a dry sense of humor. No wonder they get along so well.

Mikael has soo much feel in his guitar playing. Both excellent players.
One of the best Opeth interviews i've seen, great job!!

Love these guys. So humble and the album is SO GOOD!
It seems hard for him to accept compliments. Well, they are all great and virtuous musicians in Opeth!! Just cant wait for the album…
It is a Swedish trait.
It's called Jantelagen (Jante's law)😊
@@davidlundberg861 and who was Jante? There must be a story…
Self deprecating artists are always the best. They push themselves to do better.
This was a great interview with one of my longtime favorite bands. Thank you

Opeth is awesome! Great interview, I loved the story about the first gig.
Thanks for listening 🎸

Fredrik is in my top 5 favorite guitar players. He has such a great phrasing and touch and he's super versatile...I'd love to have a beer with him!
Great interview!
Great interviewer…..asks good questions, keeps a happy tone. 👍
Glad you enjoyed it! 🙏
I would like the breakdown of solos on this album. They are all fantastic, Frederic mentioned the differences, wondering who played which solo
A gid Scottish interviewer! My favourite band ever, truly incredible musicians.

They were at Theatre Royal, Drury Lane. It was 2015, celebrating the 10 year anniversary of Ghost Reveries. I was there 😊.
Bet that was an amazing show 👍
it's crazy now it's 24th year of the album. 2015 being 9 years ago sounds crazy to me.
Had no idea Fredrik recorded guitars on Impera... fcking crazy!
I wanted to know if Succession was an inspiration for the album and there we go!
Can we please have a video Mikael only saying "shit"?
its funny how he continues to put himself down I wonder if that's his way of dealing with imposter syndrome and anxiety
Or maybe he has so much self-confidence that he isn’t afraid to show his weaknesses and uncertainties (which everyone usually struggles with but tries to hide). I really appreciate his humble honesty:)
Mikael and Fredrik speak better English than Graham...how sad!
