@AndrewClare guess you didn't get the memo....real creators got to get the newest 'pro' ipad and of course the new 'pro' pencil. Oh, and the new new magic keyboard.
I saw some reddit posts that say the M1 64gb version has a slower reading/writing storage speed than the 256gb version, and it would make sense, Apple did the same with the Macbook Air base model.
its not apple intentionally doing this its how the storage system works higher the storage you mostly gonna get better read and write speed they never market any of this things
I am a teacher and here is my research from students. We compared : Ipad 2017 -5 gen A9 chip 5 Wat 2G ram Ipad 2022 gen 10 - A 14 6 wats 4 GB ram Ipad Air M1 2022 15 wats 8G ram Ipad Air M2 2024 20 wats 8G ram Test was set if devices can run all school day while taiking notes. School hours were 7 and in period of time from 7:00 to 14:15 Results : Ipad 2024 Air M2 chip died during 6 school hour - disappointment Ipad 2022 Air M1 chip passed 7 hours with 12% of battery left Ipad 2022 chip passed 7 hours with 24% of battery Ipad 2017 chip passed 7 hours with 31% of battery even it was oldes ipad So my advice for students is to have power bank for new models with plenty of power but with powerhungry hardware. Chip and extra ram cause maybe more powerdraw. My recomendation will be always Ipad 2022.
I have 2017 iPad Pro. It still works great for my needs (reading, writing, watching) but the battery is another matter. 64 gb is sufficient for me, I bought it in 2019 and I just now have 61 gb taken. It is much too heavy for me to take it with me (almost 2lbs in a cover) so I am looking into upgrading it. It seems like previous generation of iPad Air is what I need. Thank you for this video.
I’m glad they are very alike because I have the air 5 (256gb) and got no money to upgrade right now lol apple devices here in Brazil are incredibly expensive 😢
If you don’t want the camera on the side of the iPad Air and don’t want to replace the Pencil then don’t upgrade. I think the new placement of the camera is worth it, would be nice if you pointed that out.
Good review bro. Ill get M1. What song are you using at around 4:30 minutes in the background. I heard it on Alex Costa’s fragrance review back in 2021
I have the m1 iPad Air in the color blue. I tapped the glass of both display models of the m1 and m2 at Costco. The glass on the m1 iPad Air is better quality than the m2 version. 😃
Eh, they seem mostly the same in terms of quality. You get the same “ripple effect” on the LCD if you apply a bit more pressure than necessary and it isn’t surprising considering how thin iPads are nowadays. The only one you won’t see this on are the MiniLED or OLED equipped iPads and maybe the 10th gen iPad as the display isn’t laminated onto the glass so there’s more of an air gap.
The GPU is 9-Cores. (Apple changed the website). It’s still around 3.2 TFLOPs and 100GB/s memory bandwidth compared to the iPad Air M1 2.6 TFLOPs at 50GB/s. Unfortunately, gains will not be seen unless you use apps that require a faster memory bandwidth like video editing, 3D modeling and 3D path traced rendering . It’s not all about gaming. Benchmarks are irrelevant because they don’t actually utilize the architecture at its full potential.
Got the m1 air on sale on Amazon for $200, that stupidly good Apple Pencil alternative for like $10 on Amazon, a static electricity paper like screen protector for $38, and a case gifted to me so idk the price. So in all spent like $250. Granted it was 64 gigs, but the thing is that I’ll really only use it to stream tv shows on the go and take notes for lectures so I don’t need all this storage. Hoping it carries me through undergrad and maybe even med school.
I'm actually planning to do the m2 and 128 gb with $100 apple giftcard with the sale going on right now because 128gb is somewhat usuable rather than 64gb and it's about $600 for 256gb m1 and $550 with edu discount plus $100 gift card for m2 (128gb) but it''s somewhat cheaper for m2
@@sleeanisnotlean The differences between M1 and M2 for iPad aren’t big since iPadOS is still the biggest roadblock to unleashing the full potential of the hardware. You’re still getting Apple Intelligence features down the road once those are introduced anyways. The only thing that would decide between the 2022 M1 Air and 2024 M2 Air for me would be the Pencil Pro, which is really nice but I rarely use my Pencil 2 as is. I’d also add in that retailers are constantly marking down their M1 Air stock anyways and while the 256GB M1 Air on sale might be close to MSRP for the M2 Air 128GB, I’d factor that having double the storage would get you more use out of the iPad for the long run as I kinda view these as a “upgrade once in a while and when your iPad is fully unsupported” type of device, unless you really just have money to burn or just HAVE to have the latest and greatest.
Go M1 air! I got a 10th gen 1 year ago and decided to change to the air M1 last week and already loving it more. Primarily because the 10th gen doesn’t support external monitors (it only mirrors) or stage manager. M1 means I can plug it into my monitor as use the two screens :) big plus but just my thoughts for you 🫡
I’m torn between iPad mini 6 and iPad Air (m1). Amazing the iPad mini 6 gets a better PPI screen than the airs. But, the performance of the airs are definitely superior.
Just bought an iPad Air 5 64gb 3months ago. Considering to trade-in and purchase an iPad Air 6 128gb. Any suggestion or comments are welcomed and appreciated
I’d say if you need more memory, just get another Air 5 but with 256GBs instead. The M2 Air’s biggest difference is pretty much SoC and front facing cam location: M1 is still very much powerful in 2024 and while it’s a bit weird, center stage at least helps with the weird camera placement when in landscape.
@@TrinhNguyen-sh4fj really not much of an upgrade though. The chips are very similar. @@JohnSmith-lc8mpYea, I know and I don’t have an air 5 myself as I got 2 for my nephews. They don’t have any complaints about the battery life.
