  • I will be discussing the differences between the Pool Vacuum Systems and the Portable Filtration Systems that I use on my pool route. These systems are designed to save you time and energy and to make your day a lot easier. Below will be a description of each system for you.
    The Pool Vacuum Systems are designed to pick up very large leaf debris very rapidly. There are several on the market, but the two that I use and really like are the Power Vac & the Riptide. Basically they use a 30 lb. thrust motor to spin a propeller type blade on top and the force of the motor picks up just about everything on the bottom of a pool.
    All of the debris will be trapped in the large bag on top of the vacuum. The bags will also trap dirt down to about 100 microns and the Power Vac has a bag that traps down to 60 microns, the Riptide a 75 micron bag. To give you an idea what size a 100 microns is, a human hair is about 100 microns wide.
    They are powered by a Deep Cycle AH battery that is attached to the cart. Both Power Vac and Riptide make a unit with a battery case so you can use these without a cart if needed. This is a great option for the homeowner or hotel/resort manager who just needs the system for one pool. Depending on the battery size you can get hours of use between charges.
    I like these systems because they operate separate from the pools filtration system which means all of the dirt and debris will not enter the pump or filter keeping the pool system clean. These are also a great time saver as they pick up piles of very large debris very rapidly. For the time and energy savings alone, these systems are worth the investment.

    The Portable Filtration Systems are just what the name implies. These are basically your pool pump and filter on a dolly that you can wheel out to the deck and use to vacuum out a pool.
    Since the Portable Filtration Systems are self contained, they work independently from your pool filter and pump. All of the dirt and debris will be trapped in the cartridge filter on top. This cartridge filter will filter dirt down to 20 microns. To give you and idea how small 20 microns is, Pollen is 30-50 microns in size. So these systems will trap very fine particles while you vacuum and leave your pool spotless.
    Featured here are the PORTAVAC and the Mini Vac II by Advantage Manufacturing. These are hand made here in the USA in Santa Ana Ca. This is the premiere Portable Filtration System that comes equipped with a portable GFI, water proof on/off switch and the ability to order one custom made to your needs. Want a 1.5 hp pump on the Mini Vac II or a 100 sq. ft. filter on the PORTAVAC, they can do it.
    These are a great way to clean a pool with poor running equipment, pools that get a lot of dirt week to week, pool start ups, pool clean ups, hotel and resort pools and many more great applications.

    Hello. First I have to say thank you for the wide array of videos you have made, I have learned alot from them. I have 3 questions for you (sorry they arent directly related to this video, but I dont see another way to message you). Do you happen to have an email that you will take questions on?
    1. What setup or method do you use for opening a pool at the beginning of each season? Im in KS so our pools are closed from Nov - April-ish. Most of the pools do have atleast the basic mesh covers, but they are still VERY green and have tons of worms and leaves and similar debris in them. Currently we use a "standby pump" (a separate pool pump that we bring with us and essentially are just vacuuming to waste using a normal suction hose for suction to the standard blue and white manual vacuum head and a 2nd hose for discharge. No filter attached, just direct connection to the "standby pump".
    2. I have the Riptide SL with the standard cart. Is there a power difference between this and the commercial cart with the cord reel?
    3. I use the Riptide for most of my pools cause it works great and is fast and easy to use. But I do have a few pools that dont really need the Riptide grade cleaning (like just have a few spots of leaves or dirt/ silt) I tried the watertech (i think fx7 or 8) gray portable spa vac for these pools, but i feel it is under powered and it doesnt suck up leaves very well, yes it gets the silt. So Im looking for a portable type vacuum that would fill the gap between the weak fx vac and the Riptide, I was looking at the new Watertech Precision 2.0Li and looks like it is a decent fit. What do you think about the Precision for this roll? Or what would you recommend?
    Sorry this is soo long. And again thank you for the hard work and effort you put into all of these videos. And thank you for your time with these questions.

    Have you ever used a hammerhead? If so, gowns it compared to the power vac and the riptide SL? I'm really interested in getting one, I just want to make the best choice for my money

    • @SPL
      @SPL  6 років тому

      All of them are really good. I think the Power Vac has the best cart and next spring they will have a completely remodeled vacuum head. If you can't wait that long you can't go wrong with the Riptide SL.

    Dave I bought your system and I'm very grateful for your videos they help me start my business would you advise to mount the power vac cart to a cargo carrier ? I want to add this I am well below the 450 lbs I can carry with chemicals and this let me know what you think -Anthony b / Quantum Solutions Llc Miami fl

      @SPL  7 років тому

      Thanks for the positive feedback! My concern would be stability. If your adding the Power Vac cart to the receiver coming out of the cargo carrier it may be too much weight for the cargo carrier hitch inside your vehicles receiver. The best thing to do is call Power Vac and ask them - you could also go with the hand carry version. PowerVac 877.771.6970 talk to Kim.

    Would you recommend the riptide xp for a new pool business owner? Not established well enough to get the SL or the bottom feeder or what would you recommend?

    • @SPL
      @SPL  3 роки тому +1

      I recommend the Riptide with the cart. Later if you decide you want the cart - the cart only will cost $1,200 from Riptide. So buying the vacuum with the cart is smarter. I am not big on financing but they do offer it. My suggestion is to wait until you are big enough to afford the Riptide with the cart.

    Hey man great video, I've been watching your videos for a long time now, I would like to know your opinion on which Pool Cleaner "Vacuum" you would recommend the most, as far as doing the job faster, I've been in the business for almost 5 years and I think is time to invest on a product that will save time in windy day, I'm very interested on getting the hammerhead but I was watching your videos and I really like the portability of the bottom feeder, so in you've been able to work with both which one would your recommend me. thank man!

    • @SPL
      @SPL  3 роки тому +2

      If you are looking towards speed and portability the bottom Feeder wins hands down. For shear power the Riptide with the cart is the winner there. You can't go wrong with the bottom feeder.

    Which one do you use the most electric or battery? iv built a cart been using it for years as iv been using the same concept with the bigger wheels for years. However it cost me roughly $1200 to build all my guys use them and get a ton of compliments from my pears when im picking things up at SCP or a local distributer..i call it the Valet Cart ...if im gonna pay that much to build it i might as well get one of these battery ones, although i still think my concept is better. Anyway thinking about the new rip tide I usually do about 12-15 pools a day. My question is how long does your battery last doing clean ups because when we open pools i can only get to about 4 a day doing clean up because of how loaded they are with leave and debris from the winter. But on my valet route when pools only have a little debris and i can get to 12 pools a day will the battery hold up and how are you charging it? do you carry a spare? do you carry a charger in your truck and plug it into the cigarette outlet? And lastly why do you have both on your truck beside the fact they give you these for free to review. LOL

    • @SPL
      @SPL  6 років тому

      I would like to see a photo of your Valet Cart it sounds really cool. The Riptide SL is only $300 more than the cost of building your own so it is logical to just buy one already made. It can hold a 100AH battery which last a very long time. It can run for over 8 hours on one charge maybe even 10 plus hours. I do carry a spare 35AH battery in my truck just in case I neglect to charge it one day. It takes several hours to fully charge, you just connect a battery charger to it at night and let it charge. If you scroll down on my website page you will see the recommended charger,. It is like $40 online. Sometimes I need both if I am doing a clean up with a lot of dirt - the Portable Filter works best. But for 90% of my clean-ups I use the Riptide. It works amazingly well. www.swimmingpoollearning.com/riptide-vacuum-system

    Why know hammer head? I have used hammer heads for 10 plus years and love them but i am considering investing in a riptide for my service techs to try it out. Have you used hammerheads and if so which do you think is better. Also is there a battery indicator on riptide?

    • @SPL
      @SPL  5 років тому

      Started out using a PowerVac and then the Riptide so never owned a Hammer-Head Vac. The Riptide is a good upgrade. The Hammer-Head is probably more maneuverable and quicker to drop into much like my Power Vac. But the Riptide is pretty indestructible so great for an employee. The design seems to draw in debris quicker. No battery life indicator yet.

    I came up with another question, sorry. Where did you get the hitch setup that lets you have 2 separate hitch slots, like when you have 2 carts mounted on the back of your truck? And how sturdy/ strong is it? Getting a sprinter type van and want to be able to open atleast 1 of the back doors without removing the whole riptide hitch.

    I'm wanting to clean my Pool myself. I was thinking if I had a portable unit< it would make it easier to clean. During the winter months during the Windy season I get debris in the pool that settle to the bottom. I'm a home owner and wonder which type of unit I should buy? Thanks
