  • In this video I show you the portable pool vacuum unit I built to help vacuum out commercial pools. I show it in action vacuuming a pool to waste with a lot of dirt in the bottom of 2 pools.

Thank you for uploading this video. I started to build one right after I saw it. Got a pump and a used cartridge filter. Only problem I'm having is the discharge pipe you have with the check value. Went to local pool store and they couldn't figure how you make it bend when you cleaning and straight up when finished. Any advice. Thanks

Thanks so much for the video. I'm building one of these as soon as I can get the parts (filter mainly). One question though, will this filter the finer particulates? Due to my water source, which is a catchment tank that is used for topping up the pool as well as household use, I can't expel the filterer water otherwise I'd end up either draining the pool or my catchment tank. Will the filtered water be clear and clean enough to return to the pool?

Yes if you are just vacumming out normal amounts of dirt out of a pool, it will filter it fine and return it right back to the pool. If you are vacuuming months worth of dirt and dead algae out like I was doing in this video, you will want to take the filter cartridge out and vacuum straight to the yard. You will only lose a couple of inches of water and it's so worth it for a completely clean pool. It would be way too much debris to filter through just one cartridge.

@@aaronsg71 Apart from using a portable vacuum unit, you can install a pvc Tee between your pump and filter, but need ball valves to cut off flow to filter and divert all water through Tee, then need ball valve to cut off this waste line when not in use. OR a better way is install a 3 way pool valve between pump and filter and this acts as a Tee that you can run a waste line off of and can control the flow of the water with that valve alone.

I found one online, Pooline 120 SQ FT single cartridge filter, but any brand cartridge filter should work.

Maybe I missed it , If it’s filtered why not pump it back in the pool ?

I usually do if it's just a little dirt. But if there is a lot of dirt, pumping it straight to waste is better because the small filter will clog up fast and you lose suction for the vacuum.
