- The Riptide Pool Vacuum System made its debut in late 2016. Since then, it has gone through a number of transformations, with each one taking it to the next level a lot like Iron Man’s suit! The Riptide Circa 2021 is the finest version yet and it is packed with so many updated features it should have been called the Riptide SL 2.0.
Here are some of the great updated features:
High Torque Motor (uses rare earth magnets) High Torque Motor- Our new High Torque motor utilizes rare earth magnets making it the most powerful vacuum on the market
The cord -new protective external layer - it just feels so solid and durable
Cord Clip - secures the cord to the cart so no more worries of it falling off and dragging on the ground
Stainless steel endplates on the vacuum head
The cart is now e-coated before powder coating &t he Transport Rack Is e-coated now too - Electrostatic Coating- All of our powder coated parts are now electrostatic coated (ecoating) and then powder coated over. This makes the finish of our components much more durable.
Extremely high-quality integrated steering knuckle -Integrated Stainless Steel Steering Knuckle. This allows you to hook any pole directly up to the Riptide vacuum without the need for any adaptors while being effortless to maneuver in the water.
The SL model Riptides now include a Diagnostic/Tool Kit with a battery load tester, the load tester is essential for quickly determining battery condition.
The bags now have a different ring color to differentiate different microns.
The bags (100 Micron and below) are double layer now this feature is making the bags last much longer.
25 Micron Bag available (specialty dust bag) this bag can eliminate the need to system vac a pool with a dust problem.
Basically, the updated Riptide SL is the most durable vacuum system on the market today. The shell is backed by a 10-year warranty, the added steel plates to the vacuum head sides, the stainless steel knuckle, and the new beefed-up cord make it designed to last! The cart and transport rack has been given a stronger paint job thanks to the new Electrostatic coating!
Let me touch on the cord length choices. I was always a 40 ft cord user and didn’t consider a 60 ft cord much at all. Until of course I tried a Riptide with a 60 ft cord. The difference is pretty amazing. You can vacuum just about any residential pool from one end. Why is that so good? It just is very convenient. No need to park the cart in the center of a pool. And never run out of slack on top of that. For commercial pools, it is a must. And it is only $60 more at checkout for the longer cord. I would suggest the 60 ft of cord if you are on the fence about it over the 40 ft cord.
The new bag design is pretty cool. Each micron is color-coded now by a different color rim. So if you carry multiple micron bags you know that the purple is 25 microns and the orange is 100 microns. They are a little harder to get off without the tabs now but it is a trade-off between better bags and the older style. They also are all double-bagged making them extremely durable.

Covered everything, nice. Love the Riptide.
Phenomenal presentation! You have a gift as a professional teacher & videographer.
Solid video, great info - made me want to get one even !
I received mine on Friday and it works great.
I had one for a year now, can't complain, save me time, stress and way easy to clean a pool, i recommend using the 75microns best overall,
Iam using a lithium 50AH battery, amazing but it's pricey
This cleaner is awesome. I’m able to carry everything to the pool in one trip.
The swing away hitch is a must for pickup trucks. The customer service and warranty is second to none.
Thanks for the great feedback. They are on the ball.
Wow! Riptide looks like way better quality than Hammer Head! Only 2 negatives I saw were the vac mouth is thinner and the big cart battery doesn’t have a battery box.
WOW!
Can I leave the battery in the battery box and hooked up to the terminals while charging? Id hate to have to remove it every time it needs a charge. How do you charge your 35ah 12v battery? Thanks man! Love your videos!!
Yes. You can charge it in the Riptide cart no problem. That would be a real chore otherwise. 😜👍
Two quick questions, do you know if riptide is going to have any black Friday promotions and what battery brand and model have you used that works best.
Probably no sale on the units this season because of the supply issue. Truthfully any AH battery you can find work well. I get mine on Amazon. No matter the brand figure one year with normal use. Some are investing in the lithium ion ones but the cost at $350-$700 seems a bit much.
@@SPL Appreciate the tips, and I actually ran into riptide at a swimming pool expo got $100 off and a free bag so that was cool. Might check into the lithium ion wondering what the plus or minus is. Have an awesome Thanksgiving love the videos.
Someone else should try this also but I tested this out in my hot tub and noticed that I get more waterflow/suction with the heavy debris propeller even tho its smaller. Also I dont have to worry about those dang gumballs stopping the prop using the smaller 1 I've kept it on for the past 7 months or so and cleaned easily over a thousand pools in that time I dont think I'll go back to the normal sized prop
I think the smaller blade is smart. It probably reduces the 35 lbs thrust a bit but even at 28-30 lbs of thrust it still can pick up everything. The blade jamming is the most aggravating thing...
I’m in Texas, do you recommend getting one ? Better than hammerhead ? Power vac and hammerhead is getting hard to find around ?
Riptide is the best right now. And it is in stock.
What power of water flow does it have? Obviously, the sl vacuum cleaner is the same as the xp, what are the differences? is the power the same? what kind of bag to use also the hevi duty or a normal one thanks greetings from argentina
Same power - 35 lbs of thrust. My favorite bag is the 75 micron for both dirt and leaves. Many like the 200 and 400 micron for just leaf debris.
Can you use this on a vinyl lined pool? And would you suggest using this if it's raining?
For vinyl I would be hesitant. The only vacuum system I would use in a vinyl pool would be the power vac.
This thing is way too heavy and bulky. The day my Bottom Feeder arrived was the last day my Riptide was on my truck. I can not imagine going back to the corded type vacuum ever again with the big heavy cart on the back of my truck. This type of vacuum was a great answer to the old way with hoses and using the equipment, but this era is over in my opinion. I'm waiting for someone to take the Bottom Feeder style to the next level, but until then I will be very thankful and grateful for the Bottom Feeder as it is.
The Bottom Feeder is a great cordless vacuum system for sure.
Great video as always. How does it handle pine needles?
Picks them up no problem
For big piles of those, you can now use the short blade as they can jam up the intake of the vacuum. But it will pick them up just fine as long as they are not in big piles. I would like to try the short blade on a pile to see how it works.
@@SPL thank you Sir
What happens if you suck up a sick/twig in it? Will it damage or seize the prop?
If you are cleaning a heavy debris pool, they have a smaller blade you can use. But if it jams up the blade no harm is done. Just need to shut it off and clear it.
Dose this work with dirt or is it only for leafs? I work in an area where we get a lot of sand I am currently using a portable filter vacuum
Mainly for leaves. They do have a 25 micron and 60 micron bag but the issue with those is they become harder to work with as they fill up with dirt. So for fine dirt this will not work as effectively as a portable pump.
@@SPL got it thank you for your advice
Yeah it doesn't pick up dirt or algae very good much. I personally would rather use a flat-vac if the pool is just dirt. Makes a difference.
Where did you get the hitch rack for the double cart
Advantage Manufacturing. Tbar mount
I don't want to waste water. Will the filter hold the DE that is being vacuumed from the bottom of the pool?
No, the bag is not fine enough.
Where did you get the dual mount bar on your truck?
It's called a T-Bar Mount by T.Dula Carts. Think around $260 is the current price. www.tdula.com/mounts.html
Are you still using the Mightmax 100ah battery with the Sl cart? Hows it working for you?
It was a bit on the heavy side. I liked it because I didn't need to recharge it as much but the 55AH and 35 Ah seem to be a better choice weight wise.
We are in Texas and leave season is starting. This time a year we have the guys complaining that there riptide or hammerhead isn't lasting long enough, So was thinking about going with these instead of the traditional marine batteries from auto part store. Weight wise maybe 8 to 10 lbs more i believe.
Whats better hammer head or riptide?? If its better then hammer head how is it better?? Dont know what vac to buy ive used hammer head before but never riptide
You will find it heaver than your Hammer-Head and it has lower ground clearance from the vacuum head. It is also a much more durable product. But after using both as well that is the main takeaway.
Using 55AH battery make the riptide motor lower its power.
?..or is just the time of the battery last...?
Only effects cleaning time and not power.
25micron bag?? or do you meant 60micron? i went to check on there site, theres only a 60micron
Not listed there for some reason. 25 micron. Pretty amazing! No more manual vacuuming really unless the pool has a lot of dirt. You will have to email them for it.
@@SPL ok thanks will email
Hi this vacuum work in vinyl pools too?
It can, but I think if you have a lot of vinyl pools the Hammer-Head sits up higher.
@@SPL where you buy the battery and charger for this vacuum
How heavy is the battery..?
Depends on the aH rating. 25 lbs -65 lbs
I work with these on a daily basis, biggest complaint is the difficulty to put the bag on
Try the Clearpoolproducts bags.
Hi, Why my bag spinning on the riptide?
Could be defective or not on all the way.
Mines isn’t holding charge what could it be
Maybe a bad battery if the battery is 12-18 months old. Could be a cord issue as well.
What do you use?
Riptide & Bottom Feeder
I can’t find anything to save my life, what causes my Riptide XP to lose suction, it pushes leaves away instead of pulling them in
Once the bag gets lined with fine dirt it can no longer let the water pass through and it then comes out the bottom. I think that is what you are experiencing.
@@SPL I appreciate it, I will get another bag then, that’s what I was thinking but not too sure. Only been at it for 3 months
Some body have a used for sale
How heavy is this ???
The vacuum head is heaver than the Hammer-Head as it is made out of heavy duty material. But once in the water it doesn't matter much.
Apparently some can take the bag off with one hand 😂
Right? That's the worst part about it for me lol
Could someone please tell me or invent something to get the bags off. It kills my fingers.
Made in China. I have the Hammerhead, Riptide and PowerVac and prefer them in that order. Cheers.
When will SCP or Superior start selling them??
They only want to sell direct for a some very good reasons. Basically to keep the customer support A+ and make sure the customer is taken care of.
@@SPL that is a really good reason. But for people/companies that can only buy from “supply houses” it sucks.
@@four20smp just buy it straight from the source. Best thing is if you need any parts they ship it overnight. What’s not to love
@@FlyLowJoe can’t. My company only has accounts at big manufacturers like Superior, SCP, Ferguson, Hirsch, Harrington’s, etc. it would help if one of those places sold them.
@@four20smp I’m not understanding why you can’t? I have accounts at the big distributors as well. Just call them. Don’t be shy
The small wheel thread glue can't fix the bolt, causing the wheel to fall off!
How about a sticker for my truck?
Yes, Riptide has stickers.
Honestly not worth the price. Sure it helps but I was very disappointed with it. I only use it if I really need to. The design had several issues and I had to make some modifications to it. Its also severally under powered. Seriously thinking about building my own after using one of these for some time now.
Can't wait to see your version. 👍
Owned one myself. It was heavy and cumbersome. I bought the whole kit with the tow hitch kit and 3 bags. Used it all in 2022. I always found a reason not to take it with me. Just heavy and the bag was a bitch to put on and take off. Really tight. Sold it. Now debating on hammerhead or building
DESTROYS POWERVAC
Ok hammer head vac...... or ....riptide vac...diferences
Here ia video on all 4 systems: ua-cam.com/video/Eu0uALjIgyc/v-deo.html
I've owned 4 riptides and there cords are garbage. Absolutely I joke there cords are. Rip tide vacs are made well but there not without problems. Constant cord problems and if you have a heavy debris pool the Hammer head does a better job. If you could merry the two it would be great but if you want a better made vacuum go riptide.
I've heard of a few with cord issues. I wonder if it is a production issue. They are good at fixing issues for you.
Hammerhead cart, head weight, bag use > Riptide.
Only thing it beats it on is it seems to have a little more power. Still not worth it what so ever.
