Good video topic! My problem this time of year is the hot humid days. Totally kills my motivation.

The weather is a factor. Those early morning temps help.

I never get bored of trails, I enjoy riding so much, no matter where I ride, but I do like to explore and try different trails.
which I've been doing. but in my city I've ridden almost every trail, just few more I want to try that I know of, and some spots I've not fully explored yet.
But the areas I ride in, there are some really techy stuff around, so I ride those too. There are some challenging trails here. But I know some get a bit bored of them. I try to mix it up, so take different trails, different lines, different directions of same trail.
I've not had any super specific plans, If I feel well I go for a ride, join others if they go to a spot.
I've not tried travelling yet, maybe someday.

Congrats on the loss, hope that next loss goal will be achieved in time. I think you made some good points to stave burnout. Checking off goals and acknowledging progress are key motivators for me.

Thanks man. Progression is a key motivator. Checking off those features and hitting those goals does help.

I avoid burnout by never getting out…ugh not the suggested way though. You make great points. I love the idea if goal setting whether it’s skills acquisition or riding new places or s mileage goal, goals help a ton! Great video!

Thanks! Sometimes you need to have that excuse to get out and ride.

Great video! I fight biking burnout myself by mixing in different types of biking. This year I started riding gravel and found that I liked it, probably don't love it when compared to MTB. I've mixed in some gravel rides earlier this summer to provide some variety from my MTB rides. The gravel biking has provided some memorable rides and also helps build endurance. My hill climbing work on gravel rides I think has made me faster on MTB. Again, a great topic for a video. Thank you for sharing this.

Adding bike variety helps too. I've been meaning to buy a gravel bike but haven't pulled the trigger.

Great video. The only time I got burnout riding was on an out-west trip where we rode every day for 6 days. A different amazing ride each day in Colorado and Moab Utah , but by the end of the 6th day we were all ready for a hike, swim, kayaking, or hang gliding, anything but another ride.

I remember going out west on a trip to St George and being annoyed we didn't ride more! They decided the trail was too hard so only half the group got to ride it.

I feel like towards the end of summer I have the opposite problem. I know winter is coming and there are only so many biking days left so I want to get out and enjoy it as much as possible. That said, if I ever feel bored I definitely work on skills! If I just pick one skill it will make the most monotonous trail interesting again.

I get that feeling mid-September. I need to ride and travel as much as possible because winter is coming.

Riding with friends is so much better for engagement than riding solo. I like riding by myself but love to go in a group!

Riding in a group can be fun. I prefer smaller groups.

Great way to fight burnout is to go OTB on a jump and be forced off the bike for 4+ weeks. You'll be dying to get back out on that bike and ride ANYthing! At least, this is what I've heard from a friend....;)

Ha ha! Forced time off the bike is a great way to avoid burnout. Just avoid the injury next time.

Especially as you get older, it really helps to do sports other than riding. Doing a mix of sports through the year, and through your career can help alleviate burnout, and also may help fight the effects of a single sport on your body. Cycling is not beneficial to your core, posture, arms, neck, etc. Throwing in something like standup paddleboard, kayaking or skiing will use a whole different group of muscles, and a different mental energy as well.

Having other hobbies helps. Time away from the bike makes those rides even more sweet.

@@BrianVaughn wish I could say that. Having a heat wave here in Illinois. 95 with outrageous humidity. Couple more months before we get the chill in the air.

It was in the 50s here this morning. This week the highs are in the low 80s. Big change since last week.

For a second there I thought the worst. Was afraid you were selling the new bike. 😃 Glad to see not

I typically keep my bikes five years. With the cost of new bikes, might hold onto this one a bit longer.
