THANK YOU, 741!!! You made a huge difference and saved my day with this clear, direct video! I had the exact same problem, and you solved it for me. I'm grateful. Best to you always.
To answer your question about what blew your fuse, mine was the well used lighter that came with, bought truck used. Thanks for posting, saved me time looking at wiring diagram, or checking all the fuses.
Really? That is it? I have been chasing wires and looking for OBD power/fuse/whatever for over a month. LOL! That lighter port hasn't worked for over a year because I had to use one of those auxiliary heater things and it blew the fuse there. I don't smoke and the other one worked so, like you, didn't worry about it. Thank you!
Holy Hell. THANK YOU. I'm using Allstate Milewise and their transponder uses the ODB port. 2 weeks of headscratching with their support got nowhere and your video was the first to come up to check the cigarette lighter fuse and get that working again. I wrote up a Knowledge Base article for them to post on their helpdesk to trouble shoot. Thanks Alot.
Thanks, if only everything was as simple to fix as this. UA-cam to the rescue once again, my 2005 Denali OBD2 port and ScanGauge quit working, tried another gauge and still no life. I figured it had to be a fuse or something and that was confirmed with your video.
@SevenFortyOne. Thanks for the details. I watched another channel & all he had to say was ''Check the Cigarette Lighter Fuse''. He had a multi tester out with his right hand resting over the right side of the fuse box, covering up like 10-12 fuses located on the fender side of the fuse box, closest to the left front shock tower on a chevy avalanche. It's my stepsons cousins avalanche with the abs, traction control & I believe the brake light lights all staying on & the OBD2 scanner won't work cause no power at the OBD2 port. I was told he's a mechanic. He said his ABS module is bad & scared his brakes are going out. I had to tell him where his ABS is located at. What's going on with these younger guys with not enough sense to even check UA-cam out... Thanks for uploading the video.
Glad I watched this pulled that one first by chance just seeing if I could remove it with finger and saw it was blow would never think they would be the same circuit thank you
Perfect! Same issue on a 2008 GMC Yukon, it's the same - the cigarette lighter fuse. Pulled it, it was burned out, put in a new one and all is good! I bought a fuse kit with a bunch of fuses at AutoZone and the kit even comes with a small Eaton fuse tester - very handy. Thanks for the video! 👍👍👏👏
Wow thank you for making a video that is straight to the point and sharing the lighter is the fuse for the odb port I went to read my codes earlier and had no power about to go try the fuse now hopefully it works
I wish my problem was that simple... All fuses are good. I connect my scanner to the ACL connector, my scanner turns on, but it won't get a reading all the time. Sometimes it just buffers... Like it's searching & can't find what it's looking for. Then sometimes I can hook the scanner to the port & it comes right on & connects... I've checked the ground wire on the passenger side fire wall (Blk & Wht) wire has a good connection & other ground wires on the driver side frame by the ABS... I just can't figure it out... Why does it work sometimes & other times it takes so long to connect them a message appears Link error, Check connection... This may happen 7-8 times straight, but for instance the 9th time it connects... Unbelievable!!!!!! Good video though... Freakin Chevy Trucks... 2002 Chevy Tahoe Z71 is driving me nuts!!!! 🤬🤬🤬
Rob, Hi. Buzz here. I've been working on our 2004 Astro Van, the OBD I was told is dead, among other things. The lighter plugs were dead, plus door locks, and heat/air blower door, and horn. O-goody. lol.
Yeah I'm having the same problem as I type this. The fuse is not blown. I went underneath the truck and cleaned up the grounds and their surfaces both behind the left front wheel and to the left of the radiator. And I'm using the FIXD scanner. I unplugged everything from the power ports and the cigarette lighter. I suppose if I used a volt meter on #16 on the OBD2 and I get 12 volts it should be good? Theoretically?
Good advice 741... It's possible one or more pins could be the issue that I'm having.. Every fuse checks out to be good, but I'm having a different issue... Maybe the pins on the on board OBD connector are not making a good connection. Other words stretch open. Make sense on why my scanner connects sometime & other times it doesn't... Again all the fuses are good... I will check that out & get back to you... Thanks 741🙏✌️
-- Thanks, just came to see where the connector was, but learned something in the meantime. Let me contribute: 2004 Tahoe, the DVD player is on the same 10 amp as On-Star. Don't want On-Star bitching at you, don't yank that fuse if you've got a dvd for the kids. Get the connector behind the glove box. Look that up, there's videos on it.
Running into a similar issue but my fuse and relays are perfectly fine but obd2 port won’t work unless it’s jumped and radio plus instrument cluster won’t power on
Greetings Mr. Seven Forty One, How did you ever learn that the DLC worked thru the cigarette lighter? Seem very odd to me. My 2004 Silverado user’s manual makes no mention of that nor does schematic on inside fuse block cover. Regards, JWHV
Wow! what a wife to buy you a scan tool...now get out of the house and fix my car! I guess the tool has to get power from somewhere. How do you like the scan tool so far? You will have to do a review of it. I have one that hooks to my smart phone. Blue something or another. Blue Driver I think.
She's good to me for sure! I started a review but need to finish editing it. So far, its a decent unit. I wanted the cheaper one but they didn't have it at the store so she got this one instead.
Jumping the 04 and 08 terminal are required to program my key fobs. Not working per instructions. Watching this, I already know that my cigarette lighter doesn't work. This gives me another clue....thanks.....
Hi I have a problem with my chevy Tahoe 2005 it's wasn't work with the opd after i watch your video and it startup but it's doesn't connect with the ecu if you have a solutions please let me know All the best
Thanks 741 ..saved me some time ..now ..on to the 332 code ..freaking knock sensors ..again ..grrr ..guess I’m buying a set of OEMs ..and I’ll s$#t-can the aftermarkets ..
Check every single cigarette lighter sockets. Little debris from broken cheap phone chargers or pennies or coins or any metal will constantly make the fuse pop. Try a small vacuum on them.

Cool! Glad this helped!

Videos like this are the Best of UA-cam. Good, straight-to-the-point instruction/help. Thank you, sir.
Glad you liked this, thanks for letting me know!
IT WORKED! YOU'RE A LEGEND. REPLACED MY 15A FUSE AND OBD2 WORKS LIKE A CHARM!

Thank You... Saved me time and effort finding the problem. Of course, blown fuse and the OBDII reader is reading again.... YES!!!
Thanks, if only everything was as simple to fix as this. UA-cam to the rescue once again, my 2005 Denali OBD2 port and ScanGauge quit working, tried another gauge and still no life.
I figured it had to be a fuse or something and that was confirmed with your video.
Worked like a charm on my 2002 Chevy Suburban. My 15A fuse was labeled CIGAR instead of CIG LTR. Thanks for the video!

It fix my problem.
The cigarette lighter fuse was blown and caused the code reader to not connect.

Glad to hear it!
Thanks for the video. Fixed my 2001 Silverado.

I failed emissions due to the port being dead. This fixed it. Thx !
Awesome!

This is not my go-to channel, just a backup.
You just saved me so much time and headache. Thanks man.
Thank you for the info! Exactly what I needed on my 02 Suburban
Excellent video I replaced my cigarette fuse 25amp in my 1996 suburban and I had a connection with the scanner at AutoZone.
Good video.
Thank you. Clear explanation. Same problem with my 05 Silverado.
Worked for me! I was huntin for an obd2fuse for too long 😂
Thankyou so much! Its always simple with these chevys .
Lol... Not always James.. Not always... I wish mine was that simple... ✌️🙏
Weird fix but it worked! Thanks! Every other video was just talking about the obd fuses which was kind of obvious.
Thank you you saved me a big headache
Awesome advice... did not know it was linked to the lighter
Thank you for solving my problem video was very useful
Thanks dude. Who would figure they would tap into a cigarette lighter. I have 3 and the last one didn't work. All good now.

Thank you sir!! I appreciate simple straight to the point videos.
Thank you for this 🙌🏼 definitely helped me out
What if the fuse is good and it still doesn’t work what would you check next? Or if anyone else knows, thanks.
Check your connections and make sure there isn't a broken wire , bent pin, or loose connector someplace

Thanks never thought about the cigarette lighter being hooked to it
Thank you, in advance. I will checking that soon. At least it's a place to start. Keep up the work you do.
Great advice. Worked right away. Thanks

Thanks my dude! Knew I had a blown fuse but didn't know what one since my book tells me nothing about it
I did this and it didnt work unfortunately. Anything else you think would work? Is there a relay for it also?

Running into a similar issue but my fuse and relays are perfectly fine but obd2 port won’t work unless it’s jumped and radio plus instrument cluster won’t power on
What is the next thing to check if it's not the fuse?
Thanks for the video! Gotta ask, what's up with three different license plates?
Easter eggs 🥚

VERY helpful! Thanks!
Just saved me thanks
Thank you so much!! You save me a lot money i had same issue and a mechanic wants me to pay him 125dls to fix it!!
Blew the 15 amp fuse, someone put in a 20 amp fuse, it blew and you replaced it with a 15 amp fuse. Wonder what blew the first 2 fuses..
They get old in weak especially if you pluging up multi devices in the cigarette lighter
Same thing happend to me but didn’t fix checked ground by the door hinge and still nothing and kind find anything further than the ground
@@zaybailey171hey I’m having that same issue where is that ground located?
I just passed on a Tahoe because, among other little things, the obd2 wouldn't connect... I wonder if this was the issue....
