You're promoting dangerous behavior. You failed to mention the effects of low potassium levels in the bloodstream, the effects of water fasting on cholesterol, and other health detriments. You also failed to mention the loss of contractile tissue compared to adipose. You're going to get somebody hurt/killed.

Money well spent! Get rid of all those old clothes. I've not done that in the past and it allowed me to grow back into those clothes. If I had gotten rid of them, I would have become uncomfortable in the new, smaller clothes and been forced to get my shit together before gaining dozens of pounds extra.

100%, it takes out the painful first 2+ days of getting into ketosis. The cravings, and feelings of starvation is wild if you're not already in Ketosis. It also is more effective if you're already fat adapted. Some people take weeks and even months to become fully fat adapted. I never do fasts unless fat adapted, the struggle isn't worth it.

I want to share, I'm 25yo, I have been an alcoholic probably since I was 20, I was very fit before my 20's I new fasting already at that time, I am 6ft and I was like 180punds, overdrinking left me with quite a few problems mentally and physically (relationship and financially wise I think are way worst lmao) I'm almost 300punds now, I now finally decided to quit al0cohol and I am about to hit 30days sober, I've always though of myself as a pretty smart guy, and I always want to improve my life, so now that I decided to quit alcohol, I need my health, confidence and sharpness of thinking back, because I need to make money and fix this 5 years I wasted.

I did water fasting also 50+ days many years ago. Everything he said is 100% true. Was lightheaded at times (if I was too sedentary) and had to get up slowly. So many pros that actually didnt want to stop it except that I didnt want to become skinnyfat, plus hunger started reappering. Continued to loose weight after refeading. Also went on Omad afterwards with fasted training (inspired by LeanGains), the results where better than steroids. Also competing in things like running or ball sports was super easy due to unlimited energy. One downside was I still had gynocemastia which had to be removed surgically.

I am in month three; lost 40 pounds (have 40 or more to go). I will re-feed when it seems the time is right. Until then, I feel good, got bloodwork done. Take a few supplements. Sleep pretty good. Morning: warm glass of lemon juice/apple cider vinager/tea spoon of salt all mixed.
Afternoon: same thing as morning but throughout the day you can drink coffee (no creamer obviously) and other zero calorie drinks.
The apple cider vinegar helps with hunger, and the salt keeps the headaches away. You will lose 1-1.5 lbs a day by consuming zero calories, you don't need to just drink water. You don't have to torture yourself. I've done this a bunch of times I'm on day 6 again. If I feel like I am going to break I will literally chew food up and spit it out just so I remember what it tastes like. It doesn't matter what anyone says. For those wondering, the 7 day issue from getting up too quickly is called Orthostatic Hypotension. There are varying degrees of it. Sometimes it will be a bit off balance and light headed, others times it will be that and some partial temporary vision loss and in the more extreme version a complete blackout for several seconds and or loss of consciousness. What makes this particular dangerous is if one falls down and hits their head or something. I'd also like to add that this is not unique to fasting - Many endurance athletes get his all the time and just learn to live with it. No one is quite sure entirely what it is except low blood pressure when changing positions (laying down going to a stand). I myself have this happen, but usually only 1) when in a caloric deficit and 2) low on glycogen stores (aka, carb cutting) - salt can impact this, but merely as a by-product in that is brings up blood pressure indirectly. I firmly believe the issue manifests itself when the body knows there is a energy deficit (whether it be too much energy output (aka too much exercise), or not enough input (not enough calories) or a combination of the two). I also think this is more apt to happen on a low carb diet, at least until once has transitioned to running on ketones efficiently. Not an advocate of any diet here, just sharing my experiences and research with this particular issue. I have not had an episode of this since I cut out most chronic cardio and introduced a moderate amount of carbs back into my diet. I resistance train 4x a week and still do some walking, but I no longer run or train cardio structurally anymore. The result has been a lot more NEAT energy (I feel like doing things now, instead of laying on the couch all day because a 45 minute cardio session sapped my energy). Anyhow, best of luck to all.

First I need to be full keto or carnivore for 1-2 weeks+ before fasting, second, as I get closer to fasting I reduce calories daily until I finally cut calories all together. This seems to make entering a water fast much easier. I also take electrolytes and some vitamins while fasting. Things have gone much easier when I have done this method. Question: I understand the need to supplement sodium. However, what about some of the other dietary electrolytes, vitamins, minerals etc…?
I set out to do a 5 day water fast and I was doing great for 3 days on just salt and water. I saw videos about using electrolyte supplements during a fast so I bought Ultima’s electrolytes on my 3rd day. After consuming the supplement my ass hole turned into an uncorked fire hydrant so I cut the fast short. A possible reason could be that I drank 2 servings all in one chug which may have shocked my system. It could also be that I’m particularly sensitive to one of the ingredients that I am not aware of.
The electrolyte solution contains 0 sugar, fat, or protein. Just a mix of micronutrients. It is also sweetened with stevia and (natural) fruit flavors.
Is it necessary to supplement other electrolytes? And if so is there a way to do so safely? Perhaps a product that is simply the raw substance without all the flavored ingredients?

I am interested in trying a water fast but have many questions/concerns and looking for feedback:
    - I do not usually have a lot of willpower when very hungry. How many days does it take to get past this? After a week or so, do you just not feel hungry anymore?
    - Significant calorie restriction really destroys my energy but also my ability to sleep (in part from being hungry). Does this also pass?
    - I have a cognitively demanding job where I have to think clearly. How does a fast affect this? Is it also something that is tough for a few days and then improves?
    - I exercise regularly with both weights and cardio. I’m worried that I won’t be able to work out or will lose a lot of muscle mass. Is this really an issue?

    • @digitalspecter
      @digitalspecter 5 місяців тому

      From my experience:
      - It takes 2-3 days (can be sped up by exercising) to get into ketosis, after that the hunger isn't that much of a problem
      - hunger comes in waves, if you ride it out it disappears, these pangs do not last long while in ketosis
      - calorie restriction can be very hard if the diet still contains too much carbs so the body doesn't go into ketosis.. this means that the body can't efficiently use stored fat so you'll crave food and consume muscle tissue
      - I too have a cognitively demanding job, I was able to function during the fast
      - I had some sleep problems (but then, I always do)
      - if you're fasting you shouldn't lose that much muscle tissue, especially if you exercise (although you may need to take it a bit slower since ketones aren't produced fast enough to keep up with really intense prolonged exercise)

  • @danielleblanc5923
    @danielleblanc5923 Місяць тому

During a (water or dry) fast it is essential to:
    1) have a well working fat metabolism (bile salts etc...)
    2) stay hydrated enough (counteract hunger and enable other body functions)
The first problem might cause difficulties getting into ketosis (becoming fat adapted and produce energy from fat instead of sugar).
When fasting the sugar stored in the liver will deplete over the course of 3 days. After this the body HAS TO switch to ketosis.
This will be delayed or impossible if bile production is not at a good level
Bile is also used to excrete toxins (bile duct from the liver to the beginning of the small intestine)
The second problem will cause serious discomfort, increase hunger and possibly stall weight loss.
Some water will be needed for bile production and without bile no fat metabolism.
A severe lack of water might also increase cortisol because of physiological stress.
I experienced both of these problems. Everybody reacts differently so it is always a good idea to test things before fasting especially for a longer period.

I tried water fasting after 4 months of keto and subsequent 4 months of OMAD with carbs. I was so scared of messing it up and getting refeeding syndrome that I stopped after day 5. I’d like to know, besides salt, is there any other way to avoid the negative effects during the fast and provide my body with the other electrolytes?

There’s a detailed guide on the r/fasting subreddit, check in the menu section
-They suggest NoSalt to meet your potassium daily minimum, magnesium citrate for magnesium and standard table salt (iodized) for sodium.
-I’m sure you know this, but you dissolve them into water.
-They also provide sample recipes for the amount of electrolytes needed per serving.
      - They recommend spreading out your intake across the day to avoid diarrhea and dehydration.

At a 72hr fast I could hear the specific sounds food makes in tv commercials and smell 👃 food down the street like an animal 😂 is truly crazy.

You should DEF watch Dr Berg fasting videos on YT before starting your fast. And also I HIGHLY suggest watching Galen Foundation channel Fasting for Survival lecture by Dr Pradip Jamnadas. Excellent information and believe it or not funny. It’s somewhat lengthy but absolutely worth it.

@@DHendo214 I just finished a 90 hour water fast and it was GREAT! Way more benefits than I expected. I suggest before you start to do intermittent fasting diet first to fat adapt your body. It makes it an easier transition overall. Good luck on your fasting journey!

@@tajr.2650 That’s great, congrats on completing your fast. Yes, i was thinking something similar. I was thinking something like a week of 16:8 fasting, then a week of one meal a day, then maybe a week of just juicing/liquid diet, then go into the water fast.
