As weird as this sounds, fasting is easier for me than “dieting.” If I’m focused on a restriction of some sort, it consumes my mind and I start making compromises. With fasting, there is no compromise. You either do it or you don’t. Something about that actually makes it MORE sustainable.

I am water fasting for the 4th time now 30 days ,20 days, 30 and 30 days respectively. For first time i just started fasting after a heavy carb meal, it was brutal and I had quite a sedentary life style and I lost alot of muscles. I was getting dizzy and feeling weak, ended up in hospital for 3 days all the vitamins were depleted and I was low on electrolytes. The 3 times after that I was totally fine. The mistake I did was that I didn't take multivitamins and elec salts. I took a higher dosage of multivitamin and it helped out alot. I lift every single day, and just walk instead of heavy cardio. If you are planning to do this, cut carbs a week before starting the fast , stay hydrated cut caffeine, increase multivitamin dosage, take you elec salts.I am mainly doing it for my depression and anxiety. I was prescribed every kind of medication imaginable for depression. It just got worse. Now I am on my 2nd year without taking any anti-depressants . My headaches are gone. Blood pressure is normal, mood swings disappeared. My cravings are gone, I hate the junk food I used to eat, more mindful of my eating. I keep my diet low carb in-between the fasting intervals. Stay safe and do it the right way.

Soon after I was on a business trip in Hong Kong and had 3 suits and a bunch of shirts made for me by a Tailor. Felt great, looked great. Then Covid came along and recently couldn’t get a suit on, weighed 91KG so 2 weeks ago, did a 10 day water fast. @PhillipJermakian 8 місяців тому

@Kikuyo2 Both are healthy things to do. You don't lose muscle doing most normal fasting, you can even gain muscle fasting by increasing your health and HGH levels.
Fasting can cure things that nothing else can.
To lose muscle fasting you need to deplete your fat reserves so if you are a very skinny person then a shorter fast can make you lose muscle but even on long fasts people with more fat do not lose muscle just search for "The Fasting Fatman" here on YT and tell me he is not disciplined.

I did a 5 day fast but not water. My water had electrolytes and I took a vitamin once in a while. I lost like 20 pounds. I was not hungry at all. Trick is to walk about an hour a day as well to keep the muscles strong. As long as you have fat tissues to burn through, drink fluids, walk about 1 hour a day, you are not starving. Starvation sits in when you actually have no fats to burn through.

I'm on day six of my attempt at a 30-day water fast. I'm 5'7 and started at 280 lb. I'm down to 267.5 as of today, though I know a good chunk of that is water weight. I'm managing a total of about 3-4 miles a day as well, The only about one mile of that a day is intentional walking at the gym or outside for exercise, as the rest I get just generally in the course of my day through work and letting the dog out.
That said, the biggest thing I found is that specifically days two three and part of day four were absolute hell as far as the hunger pains go. But after that, it really is like magic.... 70%-80 percent of hunger pains completely disappear, and I'm starting to feel more alert and more energetic. I'm already noticing the difference in the mirror and in my clothes which makes me feel great. I do just water, tea, coffee, and 1/2 cup of hot water with a cube of beef bouillon in the evening as a vessel for salt and have just a small something on my stomach so I can take my daily multivitamin and let it settle okay. I don't use sugar and my tea or coffee, but I do use artificial sweetener.
I figured out through all of this that the main reason why our culture and the United States does not honor fasting as much as other cultures is simply because there's no money generally speaking that companies can milk out of someone just not eating. It's the cheapest way to lose weight. I did a lot of research prior and the biggest thing that made me want to do it was the Stark realization that for 99% of human history, mankind did not have constant access to food like we do now. Most cultures had heaviest access to food during the summer and fall, and depending on what part of the world you are in, some of the spring. During winter, it was not uncommon to have little to no food around, and what food was around was generally going to be the same one or two items everyday. Our bodies really are made to have a few weeks to a few months at a time on limited calories when we aren't doing much physical exercise due to the weather. This realization has really helped keep me sane despite all of the criticism of people around me. I see a lot of worry about heart failure and death, but to put it bluntly, there's a reason why we don't hear about 300 lb people dying of starvation from not eating for a couple of days... They die from all of the serious diseases that are a direct result of the weight and the toll it takes on our bodies.

For those of you who would love to do this but just can’t/won’t/don’t have the ability whether for health reasons or lack of will power I just want to encourage you. Fasting doesn’t have to be long periods of time, great if you can, but you can also get great results from different forms of fasting and many of the benefits that you hear about. I’ve tried intermittent fasting, didn’t like it. I watched some vids and decided to just do a few 36hour fasts, I started by doing two a week. The first wasn’t to bad, i fasted on a Monday and I comforted myself that I would get breakfast the following morning, the next one was on Thursday, a bit harder for some reason but got through ok, I did this for maybe a month or so and felt great, got very good results and it’s something that I have decided to make a permanent lifestyle practice, much easier than dieting imo. I’m not saying this is for everyone, only saying there’s plenty of variations to use and relieve the benefits of fasting👍

I water fasted over Thanksgiving break. My goal was 21 days (I have about 30 lbs of excess fat to lose), but I ended up only doing 6 days. I had done a 10 day water fast before some years back in summer time. I found it fairly easy after the 4th day or so--hunger went away and mostly stayed away. Not so much this time. I think those of us of northern Euro descent have an internal sensor and urge to "fatten up" at least a bit for the coming winter as it gets colder and the days get shorter. A kind of built in self protective mechanism, as winter and early spring was primarily the time/season of most prolonged potential hunger for those especially living further away from the equator.
Whatever the case, it was way harder for me to water fast in late fall than it was in summer. (I was also colder than usual towards the end of the fast). So if I don't hit my target weight/BMI by summer, I plan to do another, longer water fast. My spouse also goes on at least a couple week (often longer) vacation in the summer. It will be easier to do it then as well, because she won't be constantly cooking and eating in front of me. Definitely makes it easier. Plus, I won't have to hear complaints about smelly, keto breath or lack of energy etc. And more quiet time to meditate, rest, and relax. I might also go backpacking and do some very light/slow hiking (I'll bring electrolytes and back up, emergency food as well).
According to Alan Goldhamer, you want to minimize physical activity and muscle exertion to keep muscle loss down during a water fast. Basically you can only do light walking.

I’ll try to answer any questions anyone may have as best as I can. It was a funny interview, and, as Physionic states, it wasn't the best of ideas to go into this long fast without supervision. Still, my life experiences growing up and my prior military service compounded that mentality. Also, during the time, I was attending college for physics and had the forethought to see the reaction of a doctor without any intricate details. I think it is one of the best ways to get the true meaning of things, as your biases can often lead you to conclusions that under normal circumstances do not make much sense, i.e., my own bias regarding this fast.
P.S. - I still regularly fast since I broke my 54-day one. I just completed a 4-day water fast last week, and I only eat once a day, typically.

I did heavy weight training for a few months before and am using the sauna 4x a week and taking cold showers and I think those are causing me to burn more than a pound of fat a day even a month into the fast. Cold showers promote brown fat which has more mitochondria than regular fat, increasing metabolism. Sauna extends the effects of a workout or mimics cardio and burns more energy. And building muscle before increased my metabolism as well. I’m sure I have lost some muscle too but look much gunner especially at the belly so am confident I am mainly losing visceral fat.

@@shankarb9232 I have bulk powdered magnesium and potassium that I mixed with water. I also put a pinch of salt on my tongue then drank water several times a day. I took vitamin e, k, b, turmeric, cinnamon, fish oil, magnesium, calcium and zinc whic h is my normal supplementation. The first 4-5 days are the worst for electrolyte balance since I lose so much water. After about a week I only did salt and the vitamins and minerals. I ended after 30 days and lost 61 pounds. I gained back about 15 in the next week or two.

Great job with the 54 day fast. I've fasted for 10 days and felt amazing. Sure, the first 3 days were horrific, but after 5 days I barely thought of food. It felt like i had more energy at day 5 and onwards compared to a normal daily diet. Clothes became bigger due to fat loss. Just make sure that you have someone around to keep an eye on you in case the worst happens.

my advise is start with a 3 day, then a 5 day, and then a 10 or 11 day fast before aiming for 40 days. theres lots of little unexpected things that can happen during fasts and gradually working your way into longer fasts usually means you are adopting a healthier lifestyle and diet in parallel to your gradually increasing lengths of fasting which does help with making the fasting process more smooth and predictable, if you have been smashing nothing but high sugar processed foods and coffee etc prior to a fast its not unusual that you will experience bad headaches and ongoing acid reflux just days into the fast as your body goes into the clean out mode, it can be pretty difficult to endure.. on the other hand if you have been doing vegetable juice fasting for months already and eating very little sugar, processed foods and coffee etc you have a better chance of not experiencing those kind of symptoms and it makes doing long fasts more achievable

I have done it included eggs and dairy already a Carnivore for six years but never liked eggs no diary but do it now. I can do 4/5 miles on cane one without. Problem with atrophied medius gluteus because they made me lay off leg bc the thought they saw another fracture but my therapy thinks that caused the atrophy. This seems off subject but the similarities are bones breaking in a fall. Age too. I am 81 years. I had a DEXA immediately after. Did skin my shoulder and ribs elbow fell on cement outside after 9 miles picking up trash. I am doing the supplements you mentioned for bone/ muscle health. I'm a naturally skinny fellow and find that as long as I get into keto prior, I lose no muscle during a fast. I've done something like 16 seven day dirty fasts over the last few years. My bloodwork looks much better and I have several pounds of muscle I didn't have prior- stem cell activation? I'm on one now, feel fine and am losing fat like a fiend. I tend to do a 7 day fast every 2 months. Note: I do focus on weight training and gaining muscle between fasts.

I don't have any videos on the matter, but I highly doubt it's a real issue. Not to say that it can't lead to acid reflux, but unless you struggle with acid reflux conditions, I doubt it's a real concern.

    • @stafonvoncamron

The stomach acid is only a problem for your first 7 days. You just have to sleep with more pillows on your back and head. It goes away by day 7 and then you can sleep flat as normal.
