When I was 49 I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I decided to fast, against doctors advice. It's my life and my body. I fasted for 37 days, I wasn't overweight, maybe 10lbs. Over the 37 days I lost 24 lbs but there was no sign of the cancer. I'm now 73, still cancer free and healthy with no medications. During lockdown I gained 15lbs, maybe comfort eating through stress. On 1st January this year I started the January carnivore challenge. Today is 6th January and I've lost 6lbs. I'm going to fast on each Sunday in January too. Hopefully the excess 15lb will be gone by the 31st.

Excellent! Thanks for sharing. I lost 48 lbs since May of 2021. I've gained about 3-4 lbs of it back, but weigh myself every morning to stay on track. I try to do paleo and intermittent fasting 16-17 hours a day. I think the IF really helps a lot. I have come to love avocados. 🥑

As a teenager I got eczema so bad, that for 2 years I turned to a walking zombie - 100% of my skin was constantly inflamed, red, itchy, oozing smelly stuff and whole chunks were peeling off as the skin was going through these cycles. I ended up in ER overdosed, eating like 4-5 zyrtecs a day, I was given hydroccortizone intravenously twice a week for over a year. Things got so bad, I was so desperate and just stopped everything one day: stopped eating, stopped taking all the meds, just drank water for 14 days. In those two weeks my skin healed, the inflammation subsided, within two months one could not tell I had ever any eczema. That’s my experience with fasting ❤

I had skin problems on my elbows. When I got retired, 3 years ago, I started to eat more vegetables to loose weight and to detox my body. Since then, I eat often oat. One or two times per day I eat oat. 60 gramms. With nature joghurt and a few berries. 6-8 berries. To the oat I add two table spoons linesead oil, and a teaspoon cinamon. I lost 10kg in two years. My doctor was surprised about the values in my blood. I had also to take pills against high blood pressure before, now I dont need them any more. About the vegetables: I eat a lot of broccoli, even to my breakfast. In my garden I am growing also veggies. Aubergines, tomatos, salads, peperoni/paprika, lettice. Today I can say: You are what you eat. Try to cut down the carbs, eat two times fish per week. Saumon, baked. All my skin problems are gone, also on the elbows.

I've had that relationship with this local bakery that makes great pizza slices and those pizza slices have been my comfort for years. Luckily I was never actually obese, but I hadn't enjoyed the way I looked in over a decade up until a few months ago when I stopped eating sweets, drinking soda and more recently lowered my calorie intake and am seeing great results. It's not easy, but it's possible to make better decisions.

by far the hardest part of fasting is the boredom. If you've never done a multiday fast, you have no idea the enormous amount of your daily time is spent thinking about, preparing, or eating food. Depending on your lifestyle, it can be really hard to fill all that extra free time. If you want a fast to be easy, start it when you are very busy

If you are hoping to lose weight FAST, not eating is a BAD IDEA. Your body will enter starvation mode and you will end up losing muscle which will make rebound and gain weight like crazy! You need to eat a lot less, maybe 800 calories or so a day, and do lots of cardo and a bit of bodyweight exercise like squats and push ups (against a table). This WILL deliver your results I promise. It's actually harder than totally fasting because when you fast the pain actually goes away after a couple days 😉. Drink plenty of fluids, its key to getting rid of fat. You need to feather your body along that fine line between starvation mode and weight loss. Finally, you can gain muscle while losing weight but only about 70% of your theoretical max, but if you aren't hardcore pumping iron you won't come close to that max anyway. You really do want to gain a bit of muscle though as it increases you BMR so your burn more calories while you sleep or work in an office. What I would suggest is doing a 48 hour fast as this makes hitting that 800 to 1200 calorie target so much easier! from Hopefully this helps some of you 😊

It is recommended not to go over 10 day fast without supervision. This is because salt is still needed in the body. BTW, this guy is clueless on the fasting record. That is normal for someone in ketosis. The body makes some extra glucose through gluconeogenesis. It is probably the normal blood glucose for humans in absence of insulin. Problem is, we think < 80 is normal as that is measured on healthy people eating a “balanced diet” (including carbs), so it is not measured at low insulin levels.
Example: my morning glucose on a balanced omnivorous diet or vegan diet (I tried all of them for experimentation) is 75-85. Otoh, on a carnivore diet or keto, or in starvation, it is between 100 and 110.

Not the last 100 years. You are thinking about the hunting and gathering period, which is way before civilisation a few thousand years ago. I doubt humans even went without food for long stretches then. Animals are good at finding food, and we were no different. We are fat now because of junk food, sugar and little exercise, not because we are eating when hungry.

Intermittent fasting is probably perfectly normal for our biology, but fat is not efficient at storing protein, potassium or many other vital nutrients. Even if you're as large as this guy, cutting all sources of nutrition for extended periods runs the risk of damaging muscles vital to your heart and lung function. IE, it can kill you. Energy isn't the only thing we get from food and it's not the only thing we need, but it's just about all you'll get from fat.

The record for extremely low calorie, no sugar, mostly liquid fasting (he did eat a little dried yeast) was for 382 "official" days (according to the medical folks supervising him) where he lost 276 lbs. (He kept the huge majority of that weight off. He reached 180lbs and then stabilized to 196, a chunk of which was most assuredly water and muscle weight).
Granted, he died at age 50/51, but he was so morbidly obese for such a large chunk of his life, that the damage to his body had already been done. Fasting is not what killed him longer term, but most likely prolonged his life. When he started the fast, he weighed 456lbs at age 27. (His name btw was Angus Barbieri, from Scotland).

That’s what I came here for. There have been studies that show that muscle mass is only slightly affected, and the metabolism doesn’t come to a halt at all. If that were the case, we would have gone extinct, long ago. Our bodies are made to burn that fat. It’s why we store it… for times when food is unavailable. If we consumed our muscle mass, we’d just get weaker and weaker, until we died. It turns out that we need to use our fat stores up nearly completely, before we’re actually dipping into breaking down muscle. You can’t go more than a couple of days without water, but you can go as long as you have fat stores without food. This is a super impressive achievement. Congratulations! I’m currently watching, while on day 3 of a 5 day water fast. I plan to do a month, next year, after getting into a few week long fasts. The improvement in physical and mental feeling is worth the initial struggle.

In addition, I started mild training under medical supervision on my smart bike trainer, controlling puls and power rates during each excercise. The results are stunning. Starting at 253 pounds, I’ve lost 41 pounds and can confirm the loss of more than a pound a day, 95% beeing fat. My cardiac situation was perfect during the period. But thats not the main target, I was going for. All inflamatory processes in my body, especially my stomac, angles and my skin are gone. My blood pressure normalized and the blood values are perfect. My senses were totally reset, wich makes it still hard to eat processed salty and suggary food. I stoped regular alcohol consumption and enjoy one glass of beer or wine with friends only on weekends. I had to go throug a process to get used to regular eating too, which took me about three weeks. The most astonishing affect was, that I had no hunger over the whole time and could have extended the excercise from that standpoint as well. I was even able to cook meals for my wive, when she returned from work. But foremost, the experience to control myself with disciplin restored my trust in my mental strength and body. So Kenny, I fully understand what you experienced an congrats for your strength.
P.S. I kept training on my smart bike trainer and lost another 12 pounds. My fitness inreased significantly. I am now able to ride on 200 Watts power for over an hour and enjoy my life with my family. So Kenny, keep going. It’s worth it.

My first fast was also the longest - 33 days. I went from 265lbs to a healthy 190, which i have maintained. I hadn’t intended on fasting, it just kinda happened. I was so engrossed in the project i was working on at the time that I didn’t eat for a few days. By then my appetite was gone, and I had no desire for food. I did drink some tea though, green tea and chamomile. After two weeks i still wasn’t interested in food, and it became a personal challenge to see how long i could go. I was feeling great, and so was my project. I was landscaping the yard, and it involved a lot of heavy lifting, digging, carpentry and associated physical labor. My physique was improving quickly, and I had lots of energy despite not eating. The yard was finished in 33 days, and i decided that I had fasted long enough, even though I wasn’t feeling hungry. I celebrated with an apple, and had miso soup for dinner. My stomach couldn’t handle more at that time, and i was thoroughly satiated.
Since then I’ve been on one meal a day, with no processed foods, no dairy, no flour, no seed oils, and only self caught fish and free range chicken from my neighbor. I always do all my physical activities on an empty stomach, and eat when I stop for the day. After eating i rest until bedtime.
The ideas that led me to this lifestyle all came from the research I have done on fasting. The worlds longest recorded fast lasted over a year, and was supervised by doctors. I think it was in the 1950s in Scotland. The guy in question maintained his weight for the rest of his life, staying healthy the whole time. Ketosis is the key, when you’re getting your energy from the fat stored in your liver instead of the calories in your gut. Another key health aspect is the lack of inflammation. Your digestion is a source of inflammation! The stomach acids eating at your stomach lining causes an immune system response.
I can’t remember where I’ve found all this information, but Thomas DeLauer here on UA-cam was a good inspiration for me back in the beginning. I also started following Ayurvedic dietary principles.
I wish everyone good health and vitality, and hope you reach your goals in life.

Aww Kenny. My divorce after 20+ years of being together, 17 married, I had the opposite effect. We separated in 2017 and saying that I was devastated was an understatement. I had my children & they kept me alive. Mom cannot just stop and hide. Mom needs to work because she's the primary caregiver now. I guess I coped and just I stopped eating. When I noticed I had to force myself to eat. I drank LOTS of green tea, matcha & coffee, in addition to water. The usual for me. The only thing that changed was my eating. The crazy thing? I had so much energy. I work in a corporate setting, a desk job as a primary occupation. I had just started a side hustle again, my true love in occupations, waitressing. It didn't phase me. I'd taste what I had to for my job, but nothing more than a bite. I forced myself to eat salmon once in a while when I noticed that I wasn't eating. My friends had to point it out. I'd cook and feed the kids, roll through drive thru for them, bake desserts, etc, just never wanted to eat.
The restaurant closed in 2019 & the new restaurant family was dispersed. My brick & mortar office closed and we all begrudgingly went to working from home. I lost the family home in a short sale.
Then... 2020 happened. All in the same year - my dad fell ill, the divorce became final, Covid, lockdown, many other stressors and I gained it ALL back and then some. I lost my dad in March of 2021. My mind went to mush. I had ZERO energy. I avoided friends, work, family. I survived professionally by rallying every couple of days and getting it all done. I don't know how I didn't get called on it. One of my children began having serious behavioral & mental health issues.
Fasting isn't the best choice for everyone. It wasn't a choice for me, it just happened. I tell you, I felt GREAT. I had so much energy, my aches and pains evaporated because the extra weight I carried attributed, if not caused all of that pain. My mind was clear, I had energy, my skin was great, BUT I lost hair. I didn't notice how bad it got until my dad got sick. I said EFF IT and just shaved my head. I ended up keeping a variation of a mohawk. Mohawks are pretty versatile, which shocks me.
I have gotten help for my depression and anxiety. After some med juggling, I started getting better. I'm on the right path and making a choice to fast is FAR more difficult. I quote a comedian in jest often "I want to remarry, just to get divorced again to get back into shape"
Sorry to vent, but thank you for sharing your journey. Best of luck to you.

Fabulous effort. Im 74 and did a 7 day fast starting 1st Jan 2024 till 7th Jan 2024. Then it was bone broth and scrambled eggs for the next few days. I had started the carnivor diet on 1st Feb 2023 and lost around 20 ks over the year. I have tried every diet under the sun. read dozens of books on health and watched hours and hours of podcasts on many different approches. Fasting and the carnivor I find very simple. Wish I knew about this in my 20's. After 3 babies my wirht crept up and I would lose it via Jenny Craig or Weight Watches etc. but the minute I stopped the weight would come back. Now I reakon I could do 55 days fasting too. But I probably wont being an old duck. I think as you get older a little extra condition is helpful, but just a kilo or two.
After reading so much on fasting and carnivor, if I was ever diagnosed with any horrid disease my first port of call will be fasting for as long as it takes.
Good luck and hopefully you will motivate many people to take control of their life.

I did a 6 day fast and I learned in day 3, my body needed caffeine. I could not believe how my body reacted without caffeine. The most incredible headaches for about a day and then they left. It took me a while to actually figure out what the issue was. Once I hit day 4, I could have done another 10 days. It's really amazing how the body works and its such a realization of how many times you eat to just to eat. The mental side of fasting and realizing that you can go 6 days of not eating and when it hits 10pm at night and you want a snack, its just all habit.

I had no idea of the caffeine withdraws the first time and now I know what to do to get passed that. You can do it. I would try to do a 4 day fast and see how long you can make it. Brilliant documentary, he has such a likeable personality and optimism. Personally I went from 275 at 6'2 down to 190 from March 2018 through January 2019. I attribute all of it to intermittent fasting. Sometimes fasts were within 48 hours, but I also went for 3-5 days at a time, all the while staying under 10g gross carbs a day. I also had a job with lots of physical labor, and there were days I came home weighing 3 pounds less than what I weighed in the morning, with the weight never going back up.
Unfortunately, I ended up gaining all of it back after I felt like I looked how I wanted, especially after weighlifting for 7 months of that time. Now here I am, down 30 pounds once again, but this time doing it through a controlled and moderate diet that I'm trying to make into a permanent fixture of my lifestyle. This video was a great extra boost for my own journey of body transformation. It's advice we've all heard dozens if not hundreds of times, but they only real longevity we can have in maintaining a healthy weight is to establish a healthy relationship with food. That said, fasting is a great way to kick yourself out of the feeling of defeat and lack of control/optimism. Watching the weight just melt off day after day gave me such a rush, and I can call on that memory now to sustain me when I feel like I'm going to spin out again. I guess I just wanted to wish everyone well in their own battle to master their relationship with food. It can be done!

I did a 30 day fast and lost a pound a day. However it was more of an eating disorder episode, I wasn't at a weight that would make this dangerous. It takes serious freakin commitment, especially when you were on the other spectrum of an eating disorder prior to that which was binge eating. My husband visited for christmas during a deployment and I hated how I looked at the time he came home, and told myself I was going to lose the weight before he came back home. Husband came back off of his deployment a month later and needless to say he was a bit shocked when he saw me. I went from 145 to 115... I looked like a completely different person. (I can't say it made me feel better at all honestly). Though the fact I was able to commit to something so difficult made me realize I was stronger than I thought I was.

Despite Kenny gaining back the weight, this was a very brave and meaningful act. I think one of the issues with prolonged fasting for weight loss is that it doesn't create habits. Building the habits of exercise, portion control, and food choices ultimately keep the weight off. Intermittent fasting could result in better outcomes, because it's short term and can be made habitual.

A lot of excess weight is water, that tells you are sodium deficient, White dinner salt is poison and should be avoided.
Sodium allows the excess fluid to enter your cells then it can be processed then urinated out, once you lose the bulk of the excess weight
Then you can fast 2 to 3 days a week, use Celtic sea salt or Himalayan salt, a pinch between your finger every 3 hours, you will run to the toilet
More, that tells you the fluid is being moved out, as you lose the fluid introduce some exercise and increase it as the weight goes down.

It depends, extended fasting can actually resolve emotional issues that cause people to over eat, or eat highly processed foods/drinks which lead to weight gain. There's not really a spiritual/deep healing element to intermittent fasting like there is with extended dry or water fasting. In saying that, unhealthy habitual patterns can need to be chipped away at for years- it takes awareness and vigilance.

When we face adversity, the easiest path may seem to be surrendering, abandoning our dreams, and succumbing to defeat. But I implore you, to resist that temptation. For it is through perseverance and resilience that greatness is achieved. The road to success is seldom a smooth one, but it is those who refuse to quit, who rise above the hurdles, that leave an indelible mark on the world.
Think of the countless visionaries, innovators, and leaders who have shaped history. Their stories are often painted with tales of setbacks, rejections, and failures. Yet, they persisted. They embraced each setback as a lesson, every stumble as an opportunity to grow. I am 58 years old and spent most of my life in pretty good shape, but an injury would change all that... I was a professional firefighter in a very busy city, One fateful day in 2012, a fire would happen that would change my life. Right after Hurricane Sandy when the power grids started to be turned on multiple fires occurred due to shorted wires. The building I was at was pretty bad and a MayDay came in for a firefighter that fell off the roof. While rushing to the roof in total smoke as I stepped off the ladder and fell approximately 14 feet. I landed on my left ankle and then my butt, I bounced up and almost fell off the building 2 stories backwards. Then we were told the building was collapsing and we had to rush down the ladder. I knew on the way down that I was hurt. In the end I smashed three vertebrae in my lumbar spine and destroyed my right shoulder which was replaced. My ankle healed quickly, but due to the other damage I could not do much and I gained 80 pounds. I am 6 feet tall and went from 200 pounds to 280. I was and still am a fat guy. At 58 years old I know my time is short and I have to do this now. We don't see many fat people in their upper 70's. I am going to combine a strict diet with a 5 day a week workout and see what happens. I will log each day and have loved ones and friends hold me accountable. I sick of having to deal with my injuries so now they will have to deal with me! Thank you for sharing your journey...It really inspired me. PS. You’re such an inspiration. I am also fasting. However I know many people from Jain community in India who water fast for more than 100 days and they have been doing this for thousands of years so I respectfully disagree that you broke a world record.
Regardless what a great video and fabulous journey. All kudos to you for being such a strong person mentally.

There’s a guy who fasted for over a year as part of a study. It was long ago.

I feel bad for this person. When I was 465lbs and I was on a fast I was able to lose 4lbs/day at max. I was just walking myself and walking on railroad tracks for exercise. I got down to 180 really quickly. I am happy he got insight and can now see food from a different perspective. I had to repeat the fasting process 3 times before I had his insight (I would balloon up again), so I am happy for him on that skill.

I also blame the food industry for putting sugar in everything they make. Great job Kenny. I lost 93 lbs in Keto and fasting then I got Covid and really screws me to I now gained back 50.

Good job but remember nothing not anyone else is causing your weight gain except you. If you intake more than you exhaust, then you gain. It’s that simple. Our bodies do not defy the laws of physics.

@@lettus143 I hear once you reach autophagy during fasting it'll eat the things your body doesn't need including skin. I haven't experienced it but I read it somewhere.

I have fasted several times in my life, just water for a week or so to clean mind and body. The strange thing is when you wake up on day 5 you realize you're not even hungry. I was at a normal weight so I never went more than seven days, but I could have. And it is surprising how different eating becomes after a fast.

Credit for being so open about everything. The high colonic is scary to me.

35:34 was so inspiring. As a mom, it's so tempting to pick and snack from your kids' food, while preparing it, or leftovers on their plate which you really don't like throwing away. But this man knew what his goals were and stuck to them. Truly an inspiration 🙌

Yes that is so hard. I can’t stand to be wasteful and always had to clean my plate. Drilled into my head, people are starving don’t you dare waste that food! It’s so true but sometimes you have to let that go and think about your own health. It was so much easier when my boys started puberty because I couldn’t keep food in the house 😂

You Rock dude. I've done 4 days a few times. I lost a lot of weight and it didn't stop going down until about 10 days after I started eating again. I'm proud of you, brother. It feels pretty damn good to know that All of us Are the Boss of our bodies. Thanks man. Btw. I live just north of Tyler, TX. Been through Greenville many a time. Keep on keeping on, brother. Love

There is a guy in the US that fasted for 180 days and lost 300 pounds, he drank snake juice ( salt and potassium) to keep his energy, kept working and going to the gym everyday. he was 525lbs at first, ended at 225lbs after 6 month.
