That's not a thing for everybody. I'm 265 but if you saw me you wouldn't think I am. If I lost 70lbs which is my goal currently, there won't be any loose skin. I am overweight, but I'm 6ft and stocky. The people with loose skin are overweight and rounded and overweight by a large amount. I'd have to get to like 350lbs to have loose skin. My mother was 320 lbs, now she's 240 and been so for many years and she got a little bit. Perhaps if I went down to 150 I'd have loose skin but why would I go down to 150? 180-190 is good for me and still healthy, I'm 6ft tall man and work out for muscle too.@@Sideofgreen

Fasted for 40 days. I lost 55 lbs. 1 gallon of water, 2 mugs of green tea and suplemented daily. I drank water when I felt hunger pains. Worked out early morning and walked 2 miles per day. Gained 10 lbs when I started reintroduced healthy foods. 4 years later I went back to old habits and I am currently gearing up to do it again. Mind over matter is the key unless your fast is born of fear/necessity. Good luck.

I’ve gone 83 hours (only water fasts) and I wanted to increase the hours, I was wondering if you Would be kind enough to tell how much it affected your sugar levels (if you did check it) and if you experienced loose skin issues? (if so how did you handle it) I’ve a low blood sugar level and I’m worried longer fasting would affect my health

@@Lokidrip Give a good search for Dr. Eric Berg's videos on the sugar part. As far as the loose skin it was basically non existent. I had a small skin sag at the point under my chin from the back of my throat to the top of my Adams apple. It was visible, when my head was positioned in certain ways, from the side, and sometimes when I turned my head. There was a lecture I listened to about water fasting and the doctor gave major time to the topic of diabetics and water fasting. When I remember I will visit back and drop it for you. The fast was a game changer for my blood. I had teenage erections/ the sudden almost inadvertent kind that last for long periods of time. I could run long distances again and not be flushed and feeling the serious heart palpitations. No more edema type swelling in my lower legs. Too much more to list as to the positive effects. I hope you can make it to 30-40 days. It will change your life friend.

This video was extremely well done. Very packed with great information in such a short time. I have been experimenting with fasting over the last few months and this perfectly explains why I'm struggling so hard with a three day fast when in the past it wasn't a problem when I was leaner. Now that I am very obese, I'm older, and my system is messed up, I am experiencing exactly what you were talking about with the unhealthy patients whereas before when I was not as unhealthy and younger, I experienced success and euphoria with those type of fasts. So I have literally proven this with my own body over the last two months and I've had a very difficult time trying to lose weight.
My doctor, suspects I suffer from hypothyroidism, but because my insurance is such poor quality, I cannot afford all the doctor visits to get it properly fixed. I am trying to look for ways to fix my hypothyroidism with natural methods, and some sort of fasting, but with hypothyroidism issues it's very difficult to lose weight. I'm going to try these keto methods that are suggested in this video and see if I can get myself fixed. I've read the treatments for various hypothyroid issues, and I'm not keen on going down the medical root of destroying my thyroid, or being on medicine for the rest of my life. I really want to fight hard to see if I can correct my body naturally.
Thanks again for this video. It really explains so much! You've helped me see why these fast attempts are not working and have offered a solution to the problem. Wish me luck on going with this new approach!

First paragraph you wrote is exactly my situation as well, except that I was always a heavy eater and high carb eater and wasn't lean and healty even when young, so I never experienced successful easy 3 day fasts. But in last few days since I was very slowly learning about keto and fasting, I always wondered why some people report that it's so easy for them and have amazing benefits, and yet everytime I try I get terrible results and is a detriment to me.
Now due to this wondeful dr. Bosworth I finally have the final piece of this whole puzzle which I was importantly missing. And I have now with my last attempt been able to discover the right path myself and have proved to myself that what dr. Bosworth is saying in this video very true and very important. I was jumping unprepared and unhealthy not keto and fat adapted into prolonged fasts. Now that I have taken 3 months to gradually adapt my body to this lifestyle of eating and having extended fasting periods between my meals, I can last 48 hours between meals without loosing energy.
Good luck to you with your new found explanations, new missing informations and new approach to keto diet and prolonged fasting! Hope you regain your great health as you had it when you were young!
And a huge thank you to dr. Bosworth for her time, effort and great explanation of the subject!

Thank you a ton for this! You made this extremely informative and precisely and successfully exaplaining the difference in experience of fasting and prolonged fasting depending on the state of the body at the beginning of the fast.
I watch several channels that talk and promote keto and fasting/autophagy, but none have explained this specific very important aspect of keto diet and fasting. This was the video/information I lacked, needed and wanted for years now after I first started hearing about low carb diet, fasting and autophagy.
I have been experimenting a lot with all this, and only now I understand why so many people report different effect of their prolonged fasting, and only now I understand why I until now struggled with fasting, but recently I took much more gradual approach and first started getting my body to healthier level with healther diet gradually decreasing number of meals and increasing fasting times between meal.
I still haven't reached full ideal state of body health and metabolis to where I can comfortably take fasts longer than 72 hours without loosing energy and feeling the need to digest food. But I am more quickly getting to that point. Currently 48 hour fasting windows between each meal doesn't represent any problem for me anymore. I am going to keep gradually trying to increase this fasting interval more and more as long as I can achieve it, for increased benefist of prolonged autophagy.
Thank you a lot for this video! You are a great at explaining and providing quality information! Keep up the great work!

Several years ago while living in China, I had caught a virus mostly effecting my swallowing....i was in bed for a whole 20 days plus without eating....only sleeping and no desire for food. I dropped about 6 inches on my belt not knowing anything about fasting or autophagy at that time. I looked great once the virus past and had tons of energy. Now....nearly 14 years later, I practice 60 hour autophagy fasts on a regular basis. January of 2020 i was over 200 pounds and currently about 135 and falling. Please also consider watching Dr's Fung, Ekberg, Dr. Becky Gillaspy as you discover the new YOU;) Boz also brings insightful info to our new world. My daughter (currently around 300 pounds) feels it is quackery as well as my X...."I must follow my doc's recommendations" My doctor watches in amazement but not willing to comment! Unless I'm misunderstanding something, those graphs all show the hormone values going to zero at regular time markers, and I believe that's wrong. Anyone teaching this way of eating is ahead of the curve and helpful. My opinion on fasting is mathematical in nature. If you are overweight then you have adequate stored energy to fast, when you reach your desired weight then your body has no choice other than to eat your own muscle mass. This is not good for almost all of us. I don't include intermittent fasting in my approach, I naturally intermittent fast just because I dont eat until I'm hungry, usually 16 or 17 hours.

As for, "am i ready", i think so, I'll know tonight and tomorrow morning. This, all things insulin, would be a powerhouse subject for you to do a deep dive. For what it's worth... I was on Keto for five months. I went from 170 lbs. to 139 lbs. while trying to follow the prescribed diet. My cravings and appetite naturally became suppressed. I began to eat only OMAD. I didn't feel hungry and ate because I knew I had to. 4 days prior to my trip to the ER, I noted my resting pulse became elevated. (70-75 BPM average) while my blood pressure plummeted 85/60 BP average). On the 4th day my heart started racing @ 150-160 BPM accompanied by atrial fibrilation. The ER staff attributed my issue to dehydration. In my honest opinion, drink more fluids than you need. Mix your water with electrolytes. Take multivitamins too. Keep track of your BP and HR daily with multiple readings. Pay attention to your body. I know keto works for weight loss but unless you're morbidly obese or diabetic, it might not be the best thing to do. Good luck.

I don't eat veggies nor greens nor fruits.
All carbs are bad as far as I am concerned.
I have a KetoMojo meter. I have been in constant Ketosis for over 2 years and can prove it.
My target is 0 carbs and 0 sugar all day everyday. I'm good at that target.
I am about to turn 85. Over the past 4 years I have eliminated a need for any Prescriptions Medications. I take none.
Keto and Carnivore? Neither are easy.
If you require instant results perhaps a good Bourbon is what you seek.
Weight loss is a nice side effect.

I've been Keto for almost 4 years. I lost 140 lbs the first year, and 250 lbs over the course of my weight loss journey. After I became fat adapted, toward the end of my first year, I had the same concern you have and so did a few others in my Neuron group. It felt like we were fighting hard for every 0.1 ketone. I have since learned - the longer you are fat adapted, the more efficiently your body produces and processes ketones, so they will likely be lower longer term than in the beginning when you are training your body how to use ketones. I was really frustrated because I felt like my ketones should be between 1.5 - 3. Now I would say, don't focus on getting the number high unless you're deliberately stressing your metabolism (fasting, hot mag bath/sauna, exercise). Ideally your ketones should be above 0.5 but even today my ketones sometimes drop below that number and I have no explanation. I probably still have a lot of glucose stored in my organ and muscle tissues and it may be that my body is releasing it in chunks every so often which raises my glucose and lowers my ketones for a few days. That's a good thing because my body is getting rid of the glucose. When this happens, I know I'll get back on track in a few days. Just need to stay the course.

For a specific health reason, with added motivation due to wishing to lose weight, I experimented over the years through what was basically a process of reducing carbs, reducing volume to some extent too (eating nuts every day, which are high calorie), then eating less often, then OMAD, then even a period of one meal every 2 days (went back to OMAD though), then trying longer fasts, starting with 3 days, then up to 6 or 7, then a couple of 10 days, then 3 of 14 days (a few months between them), then one of 18 days, then 24 days. Getting used to it psychologically is a big thing, which includes not just getting used to it, but getting used to the emotions and cravings, and also developing an understanding whereby you know the science enough, and know what's happened before with you enough, to not worry about it, not think about food, etc. etc. etc. The key thing to learn was the electrolytes: to take sodium, magnesium and potassium in the correct quantities as you fast, and to know in your mind that you are not 'starving' but actually constantly feasting on that fat you can feel on your body. In better weeks I could lost about 3kg per week. It gets easier on about the 5th day. But I did suspect, and think now too that it's likely, that also my body was adjusting to it too. I got to the point where I could feel when I was in ketosis either in long fasts or in intermittent fasting and a keto or 'near keto' diet, etc. I'm 15kg less than I was when I started this process. About 5 years in total. It's true to say that without various stresses and issues I think the fat could have been lost a lot quicker and I could have kept more stable, not putting any back on, but I didn't worry about it, allowed myself to relax between fasts, didn't worry about some slow creeping up in weight (if I eat sensibly this doesn't happen, the weight seems to stay off, and there was the pandemic, etc., so a lot of inactivity). Also I hardly lost any muscle mass and in activity recently have put more muscle and even bone mass on, while adding very little fat. Basically I'm saying it works well, you adjust to it, it stays off, if you just let yourself get used to it, and understand the key issues (the last couple of fasts, when I knew exactly how much of the electrolytes to have, were very much easier, and I could go so much longer) and by perservering at it over time your body composition does change, with significantly less fat and a reasonable maintenance of muscle mass. With no stressors in your life and reasonable organisation a big improvement could happen in mere months, and also be sustainable. In the end boredom and feeling left out of meals and stuff stopped me fasting after those 2 or 3 weeks, not really that the fast was so difficult in itself.

How do you prepare your unhealthy body for fasting?
I take ketones (butter, sardines [gag], mct's). Is that helpful?

Add some horseradish and clean mayo to make the sardines more enjoyable!

I fasted 25 days , lost 50 lbs , I’m a male 45 yrs old . It was easy and just make sure you drink your electrolytes aka salts water mixture and break your fast slow and light and easy over a few days when you do an extreme long fast as this

I think the 72 hrs fast did not work really well for the unhealthy people because their body needs more time to be healed. How about instead of trying 3 days let’s try 9 days or more, pretty sure those number will catch up.
