I really enjoyed this podcast today. I was just reading Shopping for the Real You by Andrea Pflaumer and was on the chapter about dressing for your lifestyle. This made me think about all of the obsessing I have been doing over getting my colors, my essences, my body type just right. I live alone, I am mature and I rarely leave my house. Why did all this become so important? Now here is to getting back to just being. Ahhhh! Thank you
5:03 I used mbti and enneagram to help me decide my style! My type loves to dress up, feeling unique, is drawn to the boho life, and loves nostalgia. It helped me nail it down as I had an idea but I didn’t understand it. I thought everyone loved nostalgia so to learn that was a unique trait to my type really explained a lot. This episode was so nice 🥰😁
I’m an ESFP & never even considered applying that to my dress. As you were talking, I grabbed a pencil & wrote “Calm, peaceful, competent, comfortable, friendly & welcoming.” So although I think I convey a lot of that already, I need to spend some time re-evaluating. And I’m going to ask my husband if that’s what I portray to the world. Thanks!
Perfect timing! I keep coming back to "how do I want people to see?" and "how can I convey that without being weird?" There are aspects of myself that I want to bee seen, but how to make them approachable, because they and I are not always, is where I'm a stuck. So think you. this is just what I needed. :)
Gaby, this has got to be one of my favorite episodes so far! I've been struggling with the issues of identity vs. style toolbox and you addressed exactly that. I think I'll have to relisten a few times. Thank you so much
Another great video talking about being your authentic self and ways to help get there. I love the inner world, depth, a relaxed atmosphere and calm. I will be using these as my words for my style moving forward...... thanks for your dedication to the style world...
Finally i ended up doing my 16 personality test. Quiz result was Adventurer(ISFP-T). But the explanation was not 100% me. So went through the descriptions. Ruled out Es. Its has to be Introvert. So with a little exploration I decided I am ISFJ-T and it is pretty much me. Now next step was to think and translate it to essences. I try not to shine to try to blend in the crowd. So not dramatic, not playful, not avant gard, nothing flamboyant. One feature of ISFG is gentle that i can visualise as a slight S, not round, not straight and stiff. Yin yang harmony. Devoted caretakers/helpful=> that might mean being comfortable in my own ways=> sounds like natural=> as it involves caring others so no risks and hazards allowed so be natural in balanced ways. Care=>affectionate love=> not overpowering so slightly romantic. Now with all this commentary I think I am trying to affirm my own POV of myself being classic with little hints of natural and romantic. Food for thought Gabby. Please make a video on it. But me being an Introvert thinking to delete the comment later 😅
Interesting process! Thank you for sharing. I think you can use this and think beyond your Kitchener essences as well. This episode wasn't focusing on kitchener specifically. I hope you don't delete this comment, I think a lot of people could resonate with this deduction
I think my style journey has sort of helped me figure out what my personality is like. I sort of had a hard time with the style statement worksheets, so I had an easier time working backwards. As an example I often like to wear stuff that's fun, vibrant and humorous. That matches super well with my personality because humor is an important part of who I am as a person and how I like to interact with people. I think embracing this side of my style even more has helped me interact with people better. Especially because I can sort of seem shy or overly analytical. So my style can balance that side of me out. I have been more into stuff like MBTI lately, but I don't know if it's really helped me with style. It's mainly been distracting me from style. Maybe that's a kind of a good thing because I've been taking style systems too seriously anyways. Now I get to take something else too seriously. Yay! Right now it seems like I'm most likely an ENTP, but since I tend to over analyze things I'm not super sure of that either. That type is known for their sense of humor and provoking people, which does fit with my style anyways.
My favorite book on discovering your personal style had extra/diff classifications from Kibbe & other systems. In this book there was the usual Natural, Romantic, Dramatic, Classic plus Tradional & Trendy (aka Arty) The author put the style types on a wheel kinda like a horoscope with Classic/Natural (Sporty) being across from each other. Romantic/Dramatic. Trendy was opposite Traditional. The order was important because it was helpful for adding flair to your base style personality. You could go opposite or nextdoor on the style wheel. There's a lot about how you feel in your clothes. Naturals, Romantics & Trendies have to *feel* their clothes where the other style types go more on how it looks, is it practical, etc. There is also an entire index on colors & their psychology, a style quizz, tips for packing, style makeover stories. There's a lot of good info in this book. It's called Fabulous You: Unlock Your Perfect Personal Style by Tori Hartman. It's not a body type book or a color system book, it's a personal style book & I think it's one of the best & easy to understand.
@@Gabriellearrudadesign I think it might be a little dated especially with the "profiles" but I did like the addition of traditional & how that's different from classic. I also love color glossary & mother/daughter style type compatibility & male/femaile style type compatibility. It's kind of funny that a male trendy is called bohemian but hey whatever
I'm INTP & am creative & analytical. I've got a lot of inner goth/metalhead going on. But physically, I've got a lot of ingenue going on as well as gamine, & maybe classic. My mind goes lightspeed, but the rest of me doesn't like to go any faster than is necessary for the situation. I have no clue how to express all these seemingly disparate traits at the same time.
I think for this exercise you can put aside your kitchener essences and just try to see the connections between your favorite styles and your inner traits. Merging it with physical traits can come after or you can find extensions of your inner traits to connect them
@@Gabriellearrudadesign I will do! And yes, it will make my face shine and it's shape more seen if it's not constantly surrounded and partly covered by hair and it's a different kind of energy and that's beautiful. And I think it's sexy, too. Who says you can only be feminine with long hair? ;-)
@@Gabriellearrudadesign In hindsight I find it quite interesting that even in this sophisticated world we live in today sometimes we will still fall for these stereotypes and how much it influenced me.

You're welcome! That's a great book!
@dostopitnow Does the book cover Kitchener essences? If yes, what does it say of romantic essence? Is it the same outdated terms as Kitchener uses? 🤣🤣

Have you looked into corporate goth? That type of style could fit some of those differences, I think.
