Great episode! I recently read David Zyla’s book and the simple question “what is your eye color” sent me into a weeks long existential crisis. My eyes are blue. I had never thought about it more than that. But the book requires you to nail down the specific shade and give it a name and that’s when I realized I had absolutely no idea what shade of blue my eyes are. I thought a simple remedy would be to find an article of clothing that perfectly matched my eyes and use that as a grounding point, but that proved to be a lot harder than I expected. Everything I found was wrong…too cool, too blue, too green, too bright, too pastel, too dark, too light. I finally found a sweater that is an exact match in shade, tone, and brightness and it is not the color I would have initially expected. It turns out my eyes are not even blue, they are a smokey teal-grey and almost green. Now I understand why I’ve never liked to wear blue…because I always want my eyes to stand out and anything too blue overpowers them.
This is such an interesting exploration! It really shows that sometimes we need some patience and open mindedness when it comes to finding new style information.
With reference to Zyla as well: I made close-up photos of my eyes. They are pale blue and I know they can be grey when the sky is grey. I figured out exactly the shade they are. And that shade in clothes kills me. Guess what😊 need more kindness, as Gabby puts it. My eyes are pale but have a very dark navy outer line. And that's the color that puts me together.
@@yasminasaad7746 your eye color sounds very beautiful. Also, I found a photo of a Montana sapphire that is an exact match to a photo of my eyes. Just curious…which Zyla archetype did you land on?
I'd have panicked too, lol! When I take photos of my eyes, there's a brown outer ring, a green inner ring, & a little bit of yellow unevenly plattered in some places in there. I know this is called hazel, but it's not a blended color. In fact, as someone who is a Winter palette, none of those colors (apart from the green maybe) look that good on me. 😂
I think this may be the most helpful thing I’ve learned in a while. I’m a winter. Most ppl say I’m a dark winter. But the colors look to heavy and anything summer is too grey. For example lipstick. It’s too overpowering but if I use those same DW colors in a sheer formula or glass they look great. Same with clothes. Dark colors are usually in heavier fabrics but now I realize that all the clothes I lreach for the most are lightweight, or lace or something. So cool.
3:43 crossover I never expected, I watched both you and Christine separately for different reasons but one common denominator was relief from endless "trends/hauls/declutter/(rinse&repeat)". That were the chances of you two collaborate on such a fundamental level (not just a podcast guest)? It's like a divine coincidence :)
Christine is amazing, I'm not even close to her on her level with her color acuity and ability to describe colors in such a magical way. I am super grateful to have had her train me!
@@Gabriellearrudadesign I'm super excited for you to grow your expertise in colour analysis to compliment your fashion design expertise which is already magical. While I'm not from North America and it'll be insanely expensive for me to travel there I'm glad you both chose to share your gifts through videos.
Perfect timing, I've been second guessing my analysis. I received my color analysis 4 years ago. I'm still working on it...I was draped a paintbox spring, however I can't stand any of the bright lippy that they recommend. I feel like I'm screaming for attention. In pics it doesn't look bad, it is just when outside, it's too much. It's about balance...Thanks ^_^
I think we need to remember that color analysis is just guide, we still need to adjust to our own preferences. Maybe your not a bold lip person and sheer gloss might be more up your alley. I think balance and personal preference is key!
@@Gabriellearrudadesign Yes it was a bit unexpected because I had one top that had really confused me but it actually makes a lot of things make sense!
The hardest thing is to find clothes in the perfect colours (hue/level/value) even once we get our colours done. Soft Summer and Soft Autumn seem so fashionable this season. In fact for the supposed rarest season cool pastels have had a surprisingly long run. Isn't it time for bright sherbets? I'm sure it's hard for Summers in the cooler months too. Once I had my colours 'done' I started to understand why so many colours could work for me but that didn't mean they were great - even from my own palate ( Bright Spring redhead). I know I can 'cheat' with softer rust or khaki, just avoid the mocha and the greige, but where is the cognac or the clear red for my little Bright Spring dress (LBSD) where is my tailored jacket in neither in black nor white? Why does mainstream fashion churn out the same thing in every store in the Western world? (rhetorical question 😀) No wonder there's so much waste. I've always, always shopped vintage/preloved, I'm not running out of clothes until Y3K, but sometimes, just sometimes, I'd like to buy myself something that's actually on-trend IF it suits me too - just in my colour. Rant over 😘😘😘
As a now verified Bright Spring myself, I think there is an adjustment period to learn how to shop differently. My go-to shopping stores and experiences have slowly shifted. But you're right the soft seasons have been getting a lot of love lately, hopefully our time will come soon!

How funny, for years I would identify every color I could see in the sunset. Payed off greatly as an artist and designer.
It’s such a great creative outlet! Really sharpens your color skills 😊

I tried to shop in Patagonia several months ago and literally everything was soft summer/soft autumn with no exceptions. Frustrating.
As a fellow Spring I feel you. What happened to Brown & Camel neutrals? Everything is Black or Grey or a very dark Navy (that looks black)
I was so listening to your words I didn't even notice at first that it's podcast only without any visuals... until... you mentioned it! 😂🙈
Haha oops! I shouldn't have even brought it up!
