You actually saved me some money this time because I was thinking of buying one and trying it out on my board but I don't think so. Thanks for the headsup.
got this second hand in mint condition for 260 EUR. Best bang for the buck at this price really. Decided to buy some AC/DC presets off from a UA-camr that does a lot of Line6 presets and I am extremely satisfied with it.
I only used the Helix Native, but the dark sound comes from the fact that default cabs come with an 8k high cut by default. Also the default cabs (IRs) are garbage.... it sounds 2 times better with some ownhammer IRs.
Brilliant! I absolutely agree. I’ve done the whole merry go round with modellers and comeback to a few pedals and a 50 watt head and a 2x12. It keeps me fit in my mid 50’s and I don’t get option paralysis!! 😂 Less tweaking more playing 👍💪
Just got one of these a couple of weeks ago and it's brilliant. I've setup several amps to my liking, and one is a near perfect copy of my Marshall half stack setup. A/B'ed them and there isn't much between them. IR's make it even better, though tweaking the stock cabs is good too.
I totally agree with you! I have the BOSS GT-1000 connected to the MD, DD, RV 500 in a stereo fx loop. Then the stereo out of the GT-1000 goes to Behringer A800, then from the Behringer to VOX V212C and Harley Benton 212 with Celestion Vintage. A stereo rig (not very portable 😂) to me the best way is to use real guitar speakers. Listening via studio monitors/headphones/PA is never like having a good guitar speaker cab. What’s your take on that? Also, I personally find the Boss GT-1000 to be superior in tone compared to the line 6. Not the fractal fx though! Cheers and thanks. I forgot to mention that I disabled the “speaker emulation” in the BOSS output section.
Elmo Karjalainen that’s good to know! Try the Boss GT-1000 if you have a chance! I’d love to hear your personal take! Cheers and thanks for the videos and music
My biggest issue with all in one type of pedals is if something go wrong with it you spend more money fixing it. All in one pedals may be convenient but it’s like putting all your eggs in one basket. That usually doesn’t end well. Where as if you use individual pedals and one goes bad you can just replace fairly quick, easy and reasonably affordable. Excellent video Elmo!
This class of product -- the multiFX box -- is useful to a beginner/intermediate player who is new to effects pedals and doesn't yet have enough knowledge and/or money to shop for discrete pedals. MultiFX boxes go all the way from the cheapest noob-level gear to pro gear, and this one sits somewhere in the low-middle part of that range. Elmo wouldn't gig a Line 6 Pod Go, it's below his level; but for many a bedroom player, it (or something like it) will do the job just fine.
Rather condescending. Just because it's cheap and has a predetermined layout, which admittedly can be a massive help for people new to digital modellers (personally limiting to me) doesn't mean it is unusable professionally. People gigged with this, on worship, rock/metal or any sessions. Heck, people managed to gig with the fucking pod bean years ago. Compare this to the bean, this thing actually has helix modelling algorithms built in it. im sorry but if you can't get good or usable tones out of this then it's completely on you.
My point of view is: Line 6 Pod Go is only a Tool! is a Practical Device! For Simplicity and Multifunctional Benefits (For Gigs, In Home Studio for Recording For Rehearsals, Light Weight, etc)! Obviously is a Digital Device and never can Replace a Real Equipment (Amplifier, Analog Pedals, etc)! Conclusión: For the affordable price is a Great Choice! Thanks a Lot for the Review! Cheers!
Regarding dark sound - you hit an infamous PodGo impedance issue. Instead of declared 1M Ohm it is de-facto closer to 250K. Some people just use buffer in front, some people have it fixed by warranty, some people don't care. PodGo wireless has it fixed, and so does PodGo red edition, too. All early production standard black ones have it.
To anyone looking at buying this. You need IR's. On the stomp you can use dual cabs which can sound as good as IR's but the pod does not have that option and single Helix cabs won't sound like a real amp. IR's will make the pod usable
Used to use pedals with switcher etc. I have a Marshall jvm 410h. Since I got my helix I hardly use the Marshall. I do hook it up Sometimes.mainly just use unit on own. Amazing. Modelling is so good now and much lighter
Sorry for the late question but I was wandering is there a big difference between a Helix and a Pod Go? From what I can tell the Helix is mkre pricey. Just curious
Even labelled as POD, that thing have a Helix signature those "warm typical class A amp sounds" Good review and honesty , and you're sure can play that guitar, good job sir 👍💗 Your subscriber just add +1 today 👌
ive never used a pod, sounds pretty good in your hands i reckon i could get some good use out of it ive been using modelers for years my current is a boss gt1000, its not bad
I use a HX Stomp, I use it as a Clean Amp Solution, Add it to a full Pedalboard is where it shines, The Drives as you said aren't great, But the Cleans are decent. So plug your favourite Drives, EQ, Comp, Delay and Verb Pedals and your gonna have a Pretty Good Sound, You can go Direct to Front of House, But use Custom IR's, the Line 6 IR's aren't great..
@@MrPolevaulter i was wandering the same thing when I read so many saying custom IRs make it good. Then I was wandering whether there is an IP/copyright issue. If they model a competitors amp too closely maybe they get in trouble. What an individual does from a custom perspective is ok. Then I found that people charge for custom IRs so that can not be it. Got me back to why can't they be there best out of the box?
I really find some liking in that thing. I hook it up with the powersection of an aer acoustic amp. Greetings from Germany, you rock Elmo and I like a lot that you play that beachboys tune. God only knows how you did that....

Elmo! Love your channel and always enjoy hearing you play! One of the ways this, or any other like it, could be used is in the effects loop of your amp. As the reverb, delay, modulation et al are very useable. Wondering if you’ve tried this?
How would it work as a multi effects into the front of real amp or are the effects fake sounding as well? Probably more cost effective options for that out there.

@@MrPolevaulter so there is a site called zzounds and they are blowing out these Gibson studio monitors. I’ve been in the market because I had a hunch that I’ve been using the helix stuff wrong.
