  • Merge/combine/consolidate multiple audio clips in Pro Tools. This enables you to make easier level adjustments and lets you move the clip around as one. It will also save the new clip as a new file which can be helpful for quick exports of a dry track. Let's find out how to consolidate audio in Pro Tools the easy way.
    This works for any version of Pro Tools on PC or Mac.

    awesome video , I ran into an issue. I have a live session that we captured live its about 132 minutes long. I used clip silence option to clean tracks but any track that i cleaned with this option after i try to consolidate it grays out the audio. Any idea why the wave is gray and the audio isn't playable after consolidating. If i undo and all the clips seperate again the audio plays just fine.

    If there are fade ins and fade outs, how can I merge the clips without losing my fades?

    Helpful tip! A beginner question. Edited clips are subset clips right? When i consolidate edited clips .. does it becomes a whole file clip? Thanks

      Hi Shaun, yeah it creates a new file. This is really useful for creating tracks to send off for a mix.

    Bro do you know if you can go back to the original edits after consolidating ? Or a way to keep the individual clips but have it act consolidated ? if ygm. Ik you can on cubase, thanks

      On Pro Tools you can duplicate the playlist on that track so you can go back. If you're using a DAW that doesn't have playlists, you could just duplicate and freeze the track first.

    So quick question, i started my song around 15 seconds in, how do i move all the tracks to start time 0 without the tracks losing their placement/sync/alignment together?

    • @JoeAtClaricast
      @JoeAtClaricast  3 роки тому +1

      Can you group all of the tracks together then select all of the audio clips with ctrl/cmd + click, then move?

      @@JoeAtClaricast yeah thats the best way I found to do it last night after hours of research lol, just group them, move them all than ungroup them, im brand new to pro tools, thanks for replying.

    If you change your mind later and want to De-consolidate a clip, how do you do it? (Undo CNTRL-Z is not useful several hours later). Nobody shows this in their tutorials. Any idea?

    • @JoeAtClaricast
      @JoeAtClaricast  4 роки тому +2

      Very good point. At the beginning of the video, I mention that before I consolidate I always duplicate the playlist on that track. This means that when you consolidate, the original edit will still be there in another playlist. I sometimes use the comment section on the track to note which playlist the final edit is on.
      This is the easiest way of going back, as far as I know.

    • @CreativeBlue
      @CreativeBlue 4 роки тому

      @@JoeAtClaricast A duplicate would certainly be advisable in case a mistake is made or a change is required later. Apparently, Consolidate clip is "destructive" -- or final (meaning it can't be undone, unless you undo it seconds later before you take another action in Pro Tools.) Thanks

      @@CreativeBlue Yes. I've made the mistake before where I've forgotten to duplicate first!

      So I’ve recorded multiple tracks like 6 vocal tracks and I want to merge them all to mix the vocals together ... how do I do that ??

  • @TheUndebunkable

    Does this work when vocals overlap each other

    • @JoeAtClaricast
      @JoeAtClaricast  Рік тому +1

      If they're on the same track it'll basically 'print' whatever is there onto the track. So which ever is on top will be what's in the consolidated clip.

  • @dbones5069
    @dbones5069 2 роки тому

    there’s still a slight skip, pause in my track from one to the other could you explain to me how to change that

    • @JoeAtClaricast
      @JoeAtClaricast  2 роки тому

      Consolidate renders your selection as a new file exactly. So any gaps/clicks/pops will be in the consolidated version. Best to get the edit how you want it first, then consolidate.

      Do I have to fade in betwin clips before consolidated ?????

    • @JoeAtClaricast
      @JoeAtClaricast  2 роки тому

      Consolidating won't change the audio, so if there are clicks from hard cuts to begin with, they'll remain after consolidating. If the cut is in silence you can normally get away without crossfading, but I typically do add a crossfade for pretty much any cut I do.

    You're merging multiple audio files that are side by side in the same track. How do I merge different audio files that are different tracks. Like In your video you have voclas 11, and under that is piano. What if piano was vocal dubs, and you wanted to mesh vocals 11 and vocals dub into one track, how do I do that?

    • @JoeAtClaricast
      @JoeAtClaricast  Рік тому

      In Pro Tools you would need to bounce them instead (File > Bounce). Solo all the vocal tracks, bypass any effects and bounce them as a wav, then import that wav back in.

    when you consolidate a streo track...how it end up to a Stereo track...please...

    • @JoeAtClaricast
      @JoeAtClaricast  Рік тому

      It prints whatever you've highlighted, so if you've selected a piece of stereo audio, it'll create a new stereo file. If you select over two mono tracks, it'll create two more mono tracks.

    After doing this I still hear crossfade sound in the place I joined them together, how to get rid off it ?

    • @JoeAtClaricast
      @JoeAtClaricast  Рік тому

      All this does is print what's already there. There's no AI processing or anything. If the crossfade doesn't sound natural it'd need adjusting before consolidating.

    what about the empty space before the track starts??

    • @JoeAtClaricast
      @JoeAtClaricast  3 роки тому

      Once you've highlighted all the clips, drag the left-hand blue arrow on the bars/beats bar all the way to the beginning. Then if you consolidate it'll include the empty space.

    Can you undo this in any way

    • @JoeAtClaricast
      @JoeAtClaricast  2 роки тому

      You would have to just use the standard undo but of course if you make changes after this you won't be able to.
      I recommend duplicating the playlist before you do it so that you can go back to the previous playlist if you want to.

  • @RANDyLayeh

    • @JoeAtClaricast
      @JoeAtClaricast  3 роки тому

      If you've only just consolidated, a quick ctrl/cmd+Z should do the trick (or just Z). I always make a new, duplicate playlist before consolidating though so I can easily go back.
