I’m brand spankin’ new to Logic Pro X... & you are making my BRAIN HURT! Which is a GOOD THING! Man, there’s a LOT to LEARN about this stuff! Your instruction is both precise & concise! NO FLUFF! I expect to be spending some time BINGE Watching on your channel. Thanks for doing what you LOVE! I hope to be learning plenty here.
There's so much to learn about Logic and mixing. It's such a blessing that we have folks like him to teach us. I also recommend EDMProd-- they have good production advice too. I'm subscribed to their email list and I've seen their videos
Feels good that this was all old news to me. It should be, as I've been producing long enough, but you always get that sense of doubt when you see video titles like this. So this was validating for me, thanks.
I haven't even gone through the first five minutes of this video and I can already discern that you're the guy I need to be tuned into...thanks for the great info and demonstration. I'm you're newest subscriber. Great tip regarding recording levels...I've always remembered from my early recording days years ago that 7 is your nominal, so hot tracks that are completely above this are definitely on their way into distortion if you don't watch/listen carefully...this has always saved me from pushing things into heavy distortion or clipping the signal. Just a rule of thumb.
Good tutorial. Quick note, when you freeze a track, the next time you open the session, Logic Pro will not load the associated plugins for the frozen tracks. It will only load the temporary bounced version. When you unfreeze the track, it will load the plugins for the track at that moment.
Only been six months and the last time I clicked on this I had no idea what you were talking about so I found a different video. Came back to it and realized I utilize all of these now.
that was awesome. been a logic user now for almost 10 years and i've always wondered why i get system overloads... THIS HELPED!! thank you for being a lifesaver
This is the best Logic training video I have seen. I have been producing for 23 years and picked up some very bad habits. I have subscribed and will head over to your site. Thank you.
A few things to mention: Logic has a setting to snap edits to zero crossings in the snap dropdown, I wish it was on by default. This prevents the pop by starting regions when they are at zero on the wave signal. But the fade does show some tlc ;) Also, regarding freezing tracks (essential) there is the pre fader mode in the inspector which only freezes the source and lets you continue to try out your effects. Good job! I just wanted to point out additions to what you were presenting. It’s such a great DAW. Thanks!
I’m so guilty of not using buss. I use the same plugin on numerous channels. It just happens gradually and the next thing I notice the repetitive plugins. Thanks Chris for the reminders and again on the panning.
You’re an excellent speaker. I don’t think you stumbled your words even once. Valid topics as well. One pet peeve of my own is keeping your project files clean and organized. This includes properly labeling and color coordinating your tracks and regions. Utilizing track stacks is also crucial. Achieve all of this without losing any time by creating templates, as well.
The phenomenon of recording hitting louder peaks after showing lower during level checking goes away once you turn off the metronome click. Somehow the metronome pushes the levels higher during recording.
Thank you for your intelligence and wisdom. You will know that the 'phenomenon' of the solo'ed musician is simply that when solo'ed, they are already outside of context.Perhaps either ask the musician to "play louder than you ever have" or soundcheck them whilst performing within the track? Many thanks for your valuable instruction.
been a Logic user since the Emagic days and while functionality obviously changes from update to update, I'd say I'm comfortable and familiar enough to figure things out as they change. but your "click zones" tip for the fade tool (also found the one for marquee when doing the search) just changed my whole life! new sub here, bud! THANK YOU!
I am new to Logic Pro 10. I was a previous Pro Tools user for Four years. When I was a student learning Pro tools the software was inexpensive. No longer a student the price went up significantly. I record music as a hobby and have Apple Mac mini, which I love. I am currently using the free trial version For 90 days. I only had Logic Pro X for a few days and I am totally sold? The virtual instruments are so close to the real sound. I will be a avid subscriber from now on.
Wow... Thank you so much for this. I've been getting deep into logic for an orchestra project and you've explained all the cpu issues I've been having! Freeze and BIP will save me. I shed a little tear over the M1 Mac Mini I just bought to fix what was in fact a technique issue, but it'll still be great to have! Best channel I've seen for Logic Pro X. Easiest new sub ever. I appreciate your help. 👍
Holy crap, bro - while every point in this is valuable (and things I do all the time ), your explanation for busses is the best I've ever heard - I'm stealing the tap analogy and using it to explain to others. Thanks so much for these super-instructive clips. Even an old dog like me is learning new tricks (and making better tracks because of it).
Ok dude. You got a sub with this one. That panning one was solid. Thank you. I thought the pans were weird but never thought to look. I feel dumb lol but now slightly smarter thanks to your info 👍👍😁
I really like that Apple added the stereo pan feature to the pan knobs, but I still like the Direction Mixer better, as it's easier to control and deal with visually than the small pan knobs . I wish the pan knobs could turn into a mini Direction Mixer appearance in place of the pan knob.
For sure! I'd love for the Stereo pan knobs to be set to "Stereo Panning" by Default, as opposed to Balance knobs. Hopefully the Logic team at Apple are catching these requests :)
that Was Really Helpful, But I would Suggest, While u point out the errors And show How to Fix Them,.....Please show them with Examples. What I mean Is you To Play The Error And Then The Error Fixed, As Examples to Make The Viewers To Understand......Coz I was A bit Confused With The Bounce In Place Part. All over, That Was really Helpful. thanx
reason for the people playing way louder than soundcheck: they want to hear the acoustic sound of the drums/guitars/etc. some of my clients talk really loudly when they put headphones on when checking my mixes...sometimes that can scare me a little bit hahah
So FREAKING HELPFUL. Thank you so much. I'm currently learning Logic Pro X as needed specifically to record my own album on my home setup (a specific goal of mine for the year) and this has saved me so much time and trouble. Thank you.
Here’s a question: If I bus all my reverb to one bus for all tracks using reverb, can I have different reverb settings on various tracks using that bus? Or would I need a different bus for different settings? Hope to hear back. I know this vid is from a while ago. ✌🏼
In Cubase (which I used before Logic), cutting out a section did NOT result in a click to the following audio. The reason for this is that there was an option that only allowed the cut when the waveform was passing through zero. This ought to be default behaviour in all DAWs.
Incredibly easy to follow and eye opening stuff. Professional too! I subscribed. Gonna watch all your stuff!! Thanks so much you’ve already helped me a ton
suggestion: IF YOU have TIME to do this, provide index points in your comments. Right now I am searching for the FADE part of this video, so I checked to see if you had a table of contents in your comments. Flub #2 - Not Using Fades - 4:33
Haven't used Logic much since I discovered REAPER about 5 years ago, so I'm not sure if Logic lets you combine actions into macros and give them a key command yet, but I have several set up in REAPER for fades that save me hours and hours of time. The default "s" to split causes it to move to the next zero crossing in the wave form, split the item, nudge the edge back 5 ms, then to a 10 ms power fade so that it's at roughly half power at the zero crossing. I've got all the defaults key commands set to put in some amount of fade. This is kind of overkill, but when I'm doing long-form narration it's super critical. Not only will a split at a non-zero point cause an audible pop, the studio, mics, preamps, and room all have a sound. If this sound just drops from -45dB to -∞ it's very noticeable.
Love your video, you are a teacher not a showoff, very cool! My only problem is I find your screen hard to read or focus on, seems blurry. Is it just me?
Thanks so much for the comment! For some reason UA-cam likes to default to a lower resolution for streaming. You can adjust the resolution by clicking the gear in the right hand corner of the UA-cam player. Try 1080
I would have said in stereo a drum has toms snare hi-hat on one side then as you pan has other toms and cymbals on the other side. If in Mono it is all coming out both sides so you can pan everything to left or right but in stereo, panning will lose the drums on one side or the other. Would have halved the first point and new people could hear it straight away.
I do not understand why in any video that touches on this topic they explain to you what to do when you finish doing the flex correction. How do you consolidate that and transform it back into a normal audio region
You mentioned "if you have Click Zones enabled" when talking about the fades. Where do I find this? Reaper does fade in/out by default, would be nice if Logic had that or I knew the setting to make it do that.
Question! When you are panning a track with stereo effects, does the same rule apply? Or only when that track is itself stereo? Thanks, great pointers!
I'd add not using a proper metering plugin like the Waves Dorrough or the MAAT meter, where you can see your peaks, your RMS and the correlation, which is the most important part.
If you use a bus for a reverb, how can you change the setting for the reverb different for two tracks? Let´s say I want a short reverb on a snare and a longer reverb for a guitar?
I know this is an old video but could u make a ELI5 tutorial on Send/Bus please? Your explanation was pretty clear but would be great to show the process and all. Thanks
The stereo pan. Once you showed that - you really didn't explain it. How about a quickie on how to use that effectively vs balance. -Thanks man. Good stuff.

Anyone else just wanted him to press play?
FUCK!! NO DOUBT!!
These are things I was familiar with but I just know I will get a LOT of value from this channel. Suscribed
Great stuff Chris. This video definitely brings panning / stereo more into the light for me. Thanks for all you do to help producers and composers.

the stereo mono panning very helpful!

Brilliant! I am new to recording and the things mentioned, especially the aux and freezing tracks are vital!!

yo the pan trick was amazing I can't believe I didn't know that
Thank You! I love using bus channels but did not know about the pan effects

Great tips. Took me years to figure some of these out. This will save some peeps valuable time.
Absolutely one of the best Logic channels. Great stuff. I knew most of this but great to remind 5 things to avoid.
thank you so much! the way you explained the bus and send was perfect.
Excellent video, especially the first tip about stereo tracks.Thank you!!!!

Thank you.

Appreciate the feedback Wade! I'll try to make time to make that happen.
A great refresher course to see what older techniques still work and how they have evolved. Thank you!
Finally got how to easily create the aux sends. Thanks! The plumbing analogy was great!
I’m happy I have barely used reverbs or delays up until this point. Will always keep the wet at like 20% max lol
2:05 "So, mono means one, and rail means rail. And that concludes our intensive 3 weeks course."
You're legend.. been guilty of pretty much all of these xD
Excellent presentation. Thank you.
Great video! Thanks for the tips. I've been guilty of a couple of these...
Another intuitive lesson, thank you, makes we want to explore logic thoroughly
Wow you definitely have a gift for teaching. This account needs to go viral. I just subscribed. Thank you man!
What other kinds of plugins can we use for Busses? For instance AMP Simulation on various guitar tracks?

Very helpful video and great to see the word flub being used.
Very useful video. Thanks for that.
Thanks for checking out the channel midiland!

finally understand busses and sends now thanks to your plumbing theory! thank you so much :)
You mentioned "if you have Click Zones enabled" when talking about the fades. Where do I find this? Reaper does fade in/out by default, would be nice if Logic had that or I knew the setting to make it do that.
The key command T + A will bring up the fade tool that can be easily used to create fades.
Simply explained and very illuminating. Thanks! Subscribed!

Hi. Very informative and easy to understand tutorials. I liked and subscribed your channel. Thanks.
Great videos trying to catch up
Great tutorial! Thank you
I'd add not using a proper metering plugin like the Waves Dorrough or the MAAT meter, where you can see your peaks, your RMS and the correlation, which is the most important part.
Super Helpful! Thanks!
Switch on cut on zero crossing, helps stop click, that bas edit obviously had zero crossing edit off..I’d still add fades however
Great vid, great talk. Straight to the point, easy to follow. Thanks.
thanks for the video dude !

Thank you again for such critical advice. Keep up your great work!
Thanks so much MarkGTR!
Sends are totally simple as long as you don't get into pre-fader vs post-fader vs post-pan and when/why you'd want one over the others.
Why do you use 2 compressors on you're channels I'm a newbie, btw great shortcuts thanks!
great job Lars!!
Dude, you’re very informative I really love logic now. Thanks.
Thanks so much for checking out the channel Daryl!
