I put myself on calorie deficit between 1600-1800cals, low-carb, high protein/high fat, and low-sodium diet. I drink tons of water and no juice. Also been drinking Slimfast protein drinks for breakfast. I lost 5lbs on Prednisone @25mg. I’m determined to not blow up like I did last time. Good luck everyone!!

I should have never taken this medicine. I am 51 and I can’t believe what has happened in a month being on this prednisone. I’m off but the weight is up 10 pounds and I see it in my stomach.

Second time going on prednisone after a bone marrow transplant. I was on it for 4-5 months and I lost control about half way through, started eating, wasn’t paying attention.
This time I’m doing low carb, no sugars, avoiding salt. I saw someone comment they’re watching calories too so I’m going to try that.
I’m going go lift weight regularly and increase protein intake. I’m 5 days in on 80mg of prednisone and I already gained 5lbs. Therefore I’m weighing myself every day to see the trends.
I initially lost 10lbs by going on 80mg last time and going WAY to hard on low carbs. I started eating more and lost it.
So I think it’s serious discipline and daily monitoring to not have any bad scares and navigate everything

What will 5mg for long period of time. I used to be in 10-20 mg for 2 1/2 yrs. I gained a ton of weight. And lost my mind. Fight or flight. It was bad. I ended up almost divorced. But I need to know about 5 mg

Yeah, mine doctor didn’t tell me about the weight gain. I gained 20 lbs and haven’t been able to take it off. I’m not a junk eating person or sweet tooth either.. the worst part is that the stupid medication didn’t even work.

My weight shot right up due to Prednisone (lung inflammation linked to asthma) and it doesn’t cause an increase in hunger in me. I get physically restless but prednisone weight gain hangs on to me.
I do have to work around food allergies and IBS as well. I also take an anticonvulsant for epilepsy which can also cause weight gain.
Keto helped me to lose weight before but with inflation being so bad in Canada, it’s becoming increasingly more difficult to maintain. Keto also allowed me to come off of IBS medication. Now I may have to start taking it again.

Do you reply back now? I’m a kidney transplant patient and I take 5mg and I have to take it for life. What do I need to do? I’ve been trying to work out but energy level is low. My transplant dietitian said to do 1500 calories a day and walking exercise and maybe even light jogging. I’m on the struggle bus. Please help!

It's difficult. I am trying to not give up. I have been on it for 10 years. It has ruined my life, my looks, my everything. What use is such a life where you can't even recognise yourself anymore and not eat what you want without looking like a fat blob? Even if you don't eat much, this medicine will blow you up like a balloon. The worst part is the depression and suicidal thoughts it gives. 10 years... Alive but at what cost?

What if you were actually trying to gain weight but can't due to fast metabolism? Would taking prednisolone help? There doesn't seem to be any decent appetite boosters or metabolism slowing methods that aren't also harmful for most people

    • @PrednisonePharmacist
      @PrednisonePharmacist  3 місяці тому

This is probably the most harmful way to try to gain weight. I’d try everything else before this.
It would cause muscle weight loss and bone weight loss and move that to your fat. I don’t think that’s the kind of weight gain you want.

@@PrednisonePharmacist thanks for the reply on such an old video. I was just wondering as nothing has worked for me so far. The advice of "just eat more" isn't helpful when you have no appetite and need to eat insane amounts everyday just to maintain weight let alone gain. It just ends up being more intolerable than whatever health effects being skinny could have

prednisone sucks. the side effect do fuck you up. the best you can do to avoid all this, is to ask your doctor not to prescribe you that shit. for real.

      Right, these are general tips.
Maximizing good nutrient dense foods and protein make sense for everyone though.
