After having a horrible side effect from methotrexate my doctor gave me prednisone. These are horrible drugs and although I feel somewhat better (in regard to my inflammation and joint pain), I feel worse from the side effects. My side effects happen no matter what drug I am given for RA. My doctor is pushing biologics on me, but after trying these other hard drugs I am going to take my chances with diet and herbs, which is what I was doing in the first place.
Prednisone is causing my sister so much agony. It’s affecting her body so bad but they haven’t offered an alternative. Praying for her to get better and stop these drugs. Prednisone can be fatal.
I just stopped taking that lethal drug last week and was supposed to take them for about 6 weeks. I only took them for 4 weeks not understanding where a sudden rash on my neck bone is coming from, my stomach was swollen, effected my mental health and sleep, I had a stiff neck and a bruise appeared and kept growing on my thigh, I had to stop it. The cruelest part is, my hospital also prescribed numbing tablets to take with this steroid soo I don’t feel the chaotic severe pain it was causing my abdominal area. That made me very angry. Kept getting infections. This drug is a joke.
HI Doctor I was diagnosed with GCA I had raging inflammation and was started on 60mg gradually tapering. I have a Tozcilizuma injection weekly. Prednisone saved my life by reducing the inflamation. Sadly until another drug found predsinone is a necessary drug.
Thank you doctor for your information…..Ive been treated for RSV since Feb 9th……I was given Prednisone and a nebulizer as needed. It’s now April 2, and I’ve just finished my last script. My lungs are feeling better but the side effects from this drug is very real. I did have sleeplessness, I am experiencing swollen feet and legs, and arms, I definitely have put weight on, I do feel an occasional pressure in my chest which is concerning as I have HBP . My next appointment is Thursday and this will be my next discussion with my doctor. I truly hate taking drugs, but on the onset of this virus I just couldn’t breathe. Hope this helps with your inquiry.
My doctor prescribed me prednisone for awhile, he said it is supposed to take down my legs swelling. He doesn't prescribe it continuously for long term use, I'm glad about that. I am annoyed at some of my medications. I was on methotrexate and folic acid also recently.
As an RA patient for more than 25 years, I've seen how RA meds and treatment options have progressed. Steroids are my #1 most hated because of the most visible and immediate side effects. I get cranky, bloated, heart racing, difficulty sleeping. But I do not resist when the doctor prescribes it for a very short time just to get inflammation under control.
What’s considered long-term? I’ve been on it for three months and I’m coming off of it slowly. So I’m looking at any long-term side effects. My side effects so far have been somewhat managed. I worked with a pharmacist on taking lament to counter at many of the side effects. I would say the biggest side effect was the occasional fatigue. I did not experience the weight gain until I started coming off of the prednisone. The supplements are made by.Nutranize and more formulated for people that are on prednisone. I would definitely would recommend it has been pretty successful for me. I was taking milligrams a day for three months. I was diagnosed with a lung disease and had active inflammation, which was not being controlled. I fought not to take the drug, but was told that I could possibly need a lung transplant if they didn’t get it under control. Long story short it has stabilized and I am making improvements.
I know the side effects of prednisone all too well. Been on prednisone for 50 years since a young teen when I was diagnosed with systemic lupus. Had my 1st hip replacement 1 month after my 18th birthday. I've had 8 total hip replacements over the years and now need 2 more revisions. I've had many spinal fractures, sacral fractures, rib fractures. I did manage to keep my weight in check. Prednisone has taken a toll on my bones.
Hi doc😊 I've been to steroids since i was 11 years old and now im 28 and i was diagnose with hip osteoporosis due to long term used of it. Im a jia patient since then. And now the ortho doc advice me to have a hip replacement but i declined and now im only taking calciumade and methotrexate along with omega 3 and turmeric supplements... And i çut all sweets and process food on my diet, and i can feel the effect... Knowing that before i cannot go out without taking dmards, steriods and nsaids med ..
I took a 12 day cycle of Prednisone to take care of a bad case of poison ivy all over my body. It definitely eliminated the rash quickly. However, after the treat my body broke out in the worst acne.
@@tgmtf5963yes, absolutely. Prednisone is no joke. It's the drug they used when I used to get poison ivy all over my body as a kid. Within a week it was entirely gone. I can't imagine taking it long term. Weakness, lowered immune system. Eye sight loss, it literally kills all the good microbes in your body..
Im almost 2 months off from sister med of this pill. Still feeling symptoms. Idk if it's still from the med or am i having other issue. I'm anxious again. What are your withdrawal symptoms?
Withdrawal from prednison ? I use it for 21 years and have no withdrawal from this. Also with oxycodon no problems. I am Thinking that drugs in the usa are different then in Europa becose i dont have any problems with it. Also dokters here have no problem with prednison .
I had cortisone injections in my elbow joints re scleroderma...people said its localised and only a tiny amount..i had such severe anxiety for three months and could go out....i couldnt function myself when i only took 1 x drop of medipred...i am very sensitive to drugs...i am also grateful for a couple of shots that did help the agony i was in...but they are hit and miss..some work fantastic and others not at all...when i had the shots each time i have had lower back pain kidneys? Concering for a few days... One thing i found out as i was desoerate for help re the 3 x months anxiety after one shot is that magnesium glycinate helped with the anxiety..it was a godsend..so i hope this post will help someone out there sufferring with the anxiety might be grateful for....i guess ask this rheummy about it or your gp or rheummy. A lot have no idea❤
Ho Doctor. I took a short course of Prednisone in decreasing doses for three months because of respiratory virus. Prednisone was the only thing that kept my lungs from closing down. I recovered from the respiratory virus and I didn't have any bloating or mood changes and I have been off the Prednisone for one and a half months now, but I've noticed that I am walking with a limp and I feel like my right leg is weaker than my left leg. I am doing leg exercises to build up my right leg. Will this leg weakness be permanent??? I was only on Prednisone for three months. I'm am 59 years old. Please help me doctor, I hope that my right leg will feel equal to my left leg. Should I use leg weights on my right leg?? I can't stand this limping. Please answer. Thank you for your help.
Hi, I just wanted to chime in, that what you say is happening to your right leg with the weakness and limping, is exactly what I was going through before I was diagnosed with MS. My gait changed, and I never went back. I hope for your sake that's not what you have. But after months of testing, they finally diagnosed me and I have been taking Prednisone to keep it under control. Good luck to you.
I have been on prednisone w methotrexate since 2016 and cannot go lower than 5 mg daily. Every time I try to taper off, my symptoms flare. I recently tried again to taper and had to go back on a high dose to clear the flare and get myself back to the balance w the 5 mg. Now i have weight to lose (again) and glucose and high blood pressure to regulate AGAIN. I know it was worth a shot but i have lost another year to this issue have gone backward in the progress i have made w my health. frustrating. Any advice?
Hi, I am with you. I started taking 20 MG just a couple of months ago, and early on I tried to taper off and only take half. Even at 10, my symptoms of MS got much worse to where I could hardly walk. So I went back on it fully, and now I'm afraid to get off of it! In fact, I had to increase the dosage by 5 MG since I feel like it stopped working as well. I think I might even need more!
@veronicaalbrecht725 good luck! It is so hard to find the right balance and when you do since you are "doing well" they want to change things. When something is working take time and go slow if you are thinking of making any changes. Restorative yoga has also done wonders for me!
I just got prescribed this for the first time, for inflammation related to chronic non healing wounds that are being treated… I’m scared to take it but I’m hopeful it will help with pain and itching around the wounds. I was told to take it in the morning because it can interfere with sleep and make you kind of twitchy?
i have been on prednisone for over 8 years and i was wondering if that is why my stomach hurts me and what is been causing nausea at times i was told the MRI showed cysts in the pancreas
I've been taking prednisone 40mg for only 1month + till last week, and now i experiencing the horrible side effect of it. Here i thought i was doing fine for past few days before i stop Prednisone but again, my abdominal pain and inflammation was back again, I've been enduring it for days to not take prednisone, I was given some medicine by my doctor while treating the side effects but I don't think it does anything...
Hi. I’ve voluntarily come off this horrific steroid. Try drinking green tea, golden milk with or without honey, ginger and garlic tea, as many herbal teas will benefit you more. All the best.
They prescribed me prednisone cause I discovered I got Adult-onset Still's disease and my worst side effect would have to be the insomnia. Is there anything I could do to counter that?
I’ve had several rounds of 3-7 day prednisone since 2020 when my asthma began to get aggressively aggravated. I’ve been suffering from major bloating, increased appetite & weight gain, mood swings and moon face. I workout 4-6 days a week & eat healthy but I look nothing like I did before 2020 😭😭
My son had bleeding behind his eye. He was asked if he was on steroids and the only steroids he was on was nasal spray. After months of shots in his eye, he came off the nasal spray and his eye cleared up.
I recently developed symptoms & test results consistent wth autoimmune disease under the SLE/ Lupus umbrella. The doctor I saw prescribed Prednisone. I refuse to take it because I've had horrible reactions to it in the past. I told her this but she ignored me. I am in so much excruciating pain now and I have to wait SIX MONTHS to see a new doctor thtough my insurance. Meanwhile, the symptoms are getting worse, the pain is increasing and there's no help to be found. Why a I paying for insurance if I can't even see a doctor? This is absolutely horrible.
9/22/24 here. 3 months ago eczema and psoriasis started. Took over 60 percent of my body. I am on day 3 at 50mg a day. Eczema is decreasing rapidly. Side effects thus far is my appetite has gone thru the roof. As a skinny guy I welcome that. However I honestly want to be tapered off within 14 days. I am taking 10,000 iu's of vitamin d3 ED. Also taking Quercetin and Tumeric in hopes of getting away from the steroids

I have just been diagnosed with costochondritis two weeks ago. I’m a 73-year-old female in excruciating pain. Would prednisone for a week or two be good to reduce the inflammation?
MY dog was placed on prednisone. I switched her to predisolone...and although this is a channel for humans...I still watch because..the effects are similar. The steroids saved her life, however, we are unsure what is wrong with her.
Hi dr, I have a question that may seem a bit strange, but if you can just provide me with an answer I would really appreciate it. If someone takes prednisone lower than 0.50 mg like for example 0.30 mg a day, will this cause serious side effects in the long run?
Hello, the injection steroid did not give me any bad symptoms when given. I bc felt great. However pill digested methyl prednisone gives me horrible heart race. I believe there is something else in the pill that are toxic or stomach issues reacting.
I took Prednisone for approximately ten days. I decided it was in my best interest to discontinue use. However, i am now experiencing red blotches on my face. Could anyone please tell if this a short term or long term withdrawal effect. Thank you in advance.
I find it surprising that so little proper information is provided about Prednisolone given it is so often used as a drug of last resort by many practitioners. I have read so many scare stories on the net about adverse side effects, but there is no mention of what dose the patient is on, though often it is ridiculously high. Prednisolone is a dirty word in the drugs world, which I believe is very unfair. It is very important to understand the difference between a physiologic and pharmaceutical dose. The former is a dose less than the amount of cortisone produced by the body (approx 35-40mg per day). The latter is anything that exceeds this. Most problems arise with a pharmaceutical dose as the body starts relying on the drug to produce the cortisone equivalent and that is why it is necessary to taper off the drug slowly to allow the body to start producing it's own again. Whereas at low doses of around 5mg or less, the body is still producing cortisone, so it is possible to stay on the drug for longer periods. It is also important to note that this drug will effect people in different ways - evident from reading the case histories above. I find the drug extremely effective with very few if any side effects, but other are not so lucky. For me it's a quality of life decision. I try to be sensible based on the information I have discovered about Prednisolone - which as I say is pitifully little. I partly suspect that this is the case because the patent has expired, so drug companies can find little incentive to do further research - no money in it! It also seems to do a much better job than many of the more expensive drugs. I suggest everyone try to read a book called 'Safe Uses Of Cortisol' by W Mck.Jefferies. This is the most comprehensive study on the subject I have found, and will prove a mine of useful and insightful information for anyone thinking about or taking glucocorticoids. Unfortunately the book can be a little expensive, but well worth it.
The cortisol produced by the body is nowhere near 35-40mg a day. The physiologic equivalent dose of prednisone is around 4-5mg a day, that's all. A lot of people trying to reduce off prednisone become stuck at around that dose because the adrenal glands will sometimes not restart producing cortisol after being on steroids for so long, causing adrenal insufficiency.
My mother has been taking 40mg a day for a month now. She is diagnosed with dermatomyositis. She is going to through a lot of depression, anxiety. She does not sleep. Shes at the point that she does not want to live anymore!
huhu im naprotic syndrome 2nd relapse, on then off then on again then off again then currently on again now doc just started to taper off from 16 now reduce from 10 taper 1 tab per week. really suffering from all those side effects that you mentioned, insomnia the worst. my moonfaced terrible this time
I have taking Prednisone decreasing doses week by week now on 10 mg due to Autoimmune hymolytic Anemia, never heard in any videos uptill now, please make a video on it. Got moon face, tremors, cramps, eye problems, insomnia, palpitations. If anyone have same do text.
I look at what the prednisone is taking the nutrients from that is the most worse and what I can afford. Then buy the nutrients as I slowly taper. I holding it at 20 but the severe horrid pain, weakness and breathing are extremely difficult for me. I do what I can and pray for strength to get thru and heal. I know I can never go fully off. I must control it at a lower dose and add back the nutrients it robs my body of.
Hi Dr Micah! I'm due for an MRI next month (June) , i am given Prednisolone 5mg (8 tablets) 12hrs before the procedure and another (8 tablets) 2 hrs before the procedure. Knowing that Prednisolone is a type of steroid, I am worried about my personal side effects to Dexamethasone, it will give endless hiccups that is eventually became painful and it will only stop when i am given Diazepam. I asked the doctor, and he can't really say, and if i have complications, they will treat me and cancel the MRI. Is there by any chance that I could have the same effects with Prednisolone? p/s: my contrast MRI is for prostate. I think this dose is 40mg twice within 12hrs right? sounds scary just for an MRI. How long will Predisolone wear off rightt after that last dose till i can go off with my normal diet and activities.
I have been on steroids for 50 years. Is a nightmarish drug. I've had all the side effects Plus... You didn't mention the moon face, the constipation, travel with your kidneys your pancreas and your gallbladder in time... It's taking me 50 years to get down to 5 mg per day. The only Plus my face doesn't look as old as I am 50 but I will be turning 75 in August, but all my muscles have pretty much deteriorated. Keep up the good work.
I have been recently diagnosed with Chronic Ulcerative Colitis. 😢Rx prednisone 3 weeks ago. I just started week 3 2 days ago. 😢 I just want it to be over now. Sending you Big Hugs Lots of Support and Strength. Prayers for you on Angel Wings 🪽 are sent
@@Dorisasaurus1133I hope my comment bring you a form of relief; as I can relate to taking prednisone high dose and Very very long long term. When I meet people who have friends or family members taking a high dose of prednisone I feel sorry for them but I tell them to be patient with their loved one. They don’t mean to be grumpy or push you away. Please know they love you. I’m lucky to have family that is patient and understanding when I have flare ups.
@@MLife1000 Thank you for your kind response. I’m on my last week of prednisone starting Monday. I have been feeling a little bit better as I have been decreasing the dose from 4 a day to now one a day for the next week. I hope that I don’t have any detox side effects from this. I just can’t wait to be done taking it so I can sleep again. I truly appreciate your kindness and understanding. God Bless your heart
Hi iam on prednisone at moment for pain of arthritis in spinal for L5-S1 ders relieve but not my legs n feet n toes.....plzzz give options on this....i need to have alternative for prednisone plzzz 😢
I took prednisone for 10 days for bell's palsy - I wish I had never touched it. It had ruined my body and muscles completely in short time. I was thin, it has been a month now that I am off the steroid and I feel like a balloon. No matter what I do, and I am always fasting 20/4, I got this round belly , acne and still cannot sleep more than 4 hours. 😢😢😢😢Will it stay forever????
I've been taking prednisone for 13 years and I am getting it off finally my sides effect are: easy bruising, hair lose, lung aspergillus, osteoporosis :(
I have Adrenal insufficiency I have to take low dose prednisone for life and there is not enough information about what you can or cannot take with steroids. What's my biggest problem? Well since I don't produce cortisol and you can't control it like diabetes which has a meter to check ur blood I have to guess like when I get very stressed out or if I have infection. Double up on them if I'm sick or throwing up. I have lots of side effects too long to mention but I just would like to have a better quality of life. Every dr I have if I have side effect they blame steroid. I don't think there is option to come off these.
Hello, i have reuma. I am using for 21 years depomedrol 120mg every 3 months , thats the max dosis. And use in between 30mg prednison pils. Yes i have some side effects bud it,s ok. The only thing my doctor says is about the lose off whats between the bones. Here in Europa the Netherlands there are not so much side effects. Also my weight i keep in controle by counting calories. And i eat everything. Also have tramadol 50mg 4x a day for pain relief. And sometimes i use oxycodon 5mg . That works the same as 100mg tramadol. I dont have addiction problems with these drugs. I take it when i meed it. If it go,s ok, then i take nothing. No problems. These i use for the past 16 years . Also had some morfine patches bud that didnt work for pain relief. My pain number every day is between 6 and 10 . When i have 10 i am crying. Below 7 i dont take pain relief. With the prednison after 21 years i dont have hart problems ore high blood pressure. My blood gets checkt every 3 months.
My late husband caught during a business trip Gilliam Barre Syndrome. Because of that he became paralyzed. Doctors prescribed Prednisone. My husband suffered from 90+ of the side effects you mentioned in your video, plus Kidney, Liver, Lung damage, bled from his anus. In the end, he's heart fail. He lost lots of hair, and he aged a lot. He looked like a 75+ man, when he died, he was 42.
I've been off and on, on Prednisone since 2098, when I was diagnosed. I started on 60 mg and tapered. I got so much relief, I cried. Since then I've been in a cocktail of meds and tapering Prednisone to help. I'm a severe case. I went through so many biological, to no avail, until I was on Xeljanz, and that's been a blessing since 2/15! Once in a great while I'd get a tapering again because of the Xeljanz not working fully or fading away. You would know that sometimes it needs to be stopped and then started again down the road, and having Prednisone to cover. If I'm doing ok, the 5 mg. of Prednisone takes a little more pain away. I gained so much weight and I keep trying to lose. A Dietician is helping me and she sympathizes with me because of this RA and Hypothyroidism. I have proved to her and myself, that I can lose. I'm paying attention to my calories and the carbs. I eat more protein, so I don't fill up on carbs. When I was on higher doses of Prednisone, I have more skin issues, like Shingles!! My last case was so horrible and I couldn't stop screaming. Calamine helped. I got a Shingles vaccine and nothing since! Thank goodness!! I'm thankful to be alive and better quality of life! Thank you, Dr. 😊😊
I got 2 shots at the same time. One for each hip bone. I had it done in January and even tho it didn’t take the pain away it did some. I started acupuncture and the pain was gone after the second session. Do anyone know how to detox from prednisone? I’ve been working out and eating healthy since March and I have not lost a pound. I haven’t gained anything but I’m tired of the moon face and not being able to lose weight. My wedding is in 50 days. Help!
😮I've been on and off prednisone for 40 some odd years now. I know I didn't have much for options but I'm certainly paying for it now. I have osteoporosis, osteonacrosis in my left knee just found out my right tibia and femor both are necrotic. My adrenal glands have failed. I have crohns disease and emphysema, copd, loaded with arthritis, spinal stenosis in my neck and lower lumbar spine and have been bed ridden for several months with a compression fracture in my T8. I'm currently tapering very slowly and I'm taking 28mg at the moment if I even cut back a half mg my whole body suffers
That may be the number you need to stay at for now. Be patient. I am cutting down but sometimes I have to stop or go back up 10 mg for a little bit of tine. I am also using nutrients for the deficiencies that prednisone creates. I am not perfect nor are you. We choose little of our life. It what God has put in place long before our birth. Just be patient. Pray and have faith.
One side effect not mentioned is the redistribution of fat. I have gained no weight and don't retain fluid because I drink plenty of extra water, but my face has become rounded with fat.

How are you now? How's your experienced with NSAIDs? I'm having issues now. Don't know if it's from nsaid..
I took a 12 day cycle of Prednisone to take care of a bad case of poison ivy all over my body. It definitely eliminated the rash quickly. However, after the treat my body broke out in the worst acne.
Did you tapper dose or just left them? How many mg did you take?
Can you tell me about food that you diet ? Please I want to know about your food

Been on Prednisone for over 10 years 80% of that time I have been on 5mg.
Wouldn't that be detrimental to health?
@@tgmtf5963 Yes, but not being able to function from debilitating conditions like severe arthritis are also detrimental to health.
@@tgmtf5963i’d think so. no safe dose of prednisone
Oh wow. What type of condition have you got that requires this long-term use of prednisone?
@@tgmtf5963yes, absolutely. Prednisone is no joke. It's the drug they used when I used to get poison ivy all over my body as a kid. Within a week it was entirely gone. The withdrawal sucks too. Really bad for mental health, 3 months off stilll have anxiety
Im almost 2 months off from sister med of this pill. Still feeling symptoms. Idk if it's still from the med or am i having other issue. I'm anxious again. What are your withdrawal symptoms?
Same for me, I’ve had a hell of a time since a short course…
Withdrawal from prednison ?
I use it for 21 years and have no withdrawal from this. Also with oxycodon no problems.

I hate taking it- I had a bone density test done …. I went off if it. I will take the pain. Been on since September- going off.,

Regarding Osteoporosis, wouldn't K2 MK7 help with that? (Directs calcium to your bones and helps prevent calcificatoin in veins).
Great info!

What can i take to get rid of the bruising from taking prednisone

God bless your soul! What are the side affects? Same time frame as my mother. Going on a month .
I workout 4-6 days a week & eat healthy but I look nothing like I did before 2020 😭😭
Hi is there any natural supplement instead of Prednisone bless u
Yes. Look up Dr. Berg. He has a few videos on this. Buffered vitamin c, vitamin D, and b5. Also k2.
My son had bleeding behind his eye. He was asked if he was on steroids and the only steroids he was on was nasal spray. After months of shots in his eye, he came off the nasal spray and his eye cleared up.
Recently prescribed Prednisone, one week in, so far the only noticeable side effect is insomnia.
same for me,hard to remain asleep
I recently developed symptoms & test results consistent wth autoimmune disease under the SLE/ Lupus umbrella. The doctor I saw prescribed Prednisone. I refuse to take it because I've had horrible reactions to it in the past. I told her this but she ignored me.
I am in so much excruciating pain now and I have to wait SIX MONTHS to see a new doctor thtough my insurance. Meanwhile, the symptoms are getting worse, the pain is increasing and there's no help to be found. Why a I paying for insurance if I can't even see a doctor? This is absolutely horrible.
My sugar level also shoot up though i m not diabetic 😮😮😮at all

Also taking Quercetin and Tumeric in hopes of getting away from the steroids

What’s considered long-term? I’ve been on it for three months and I’m coming off of it slowly. So I’m looking at any long-term side effects. My side effects so far have been somewhat managed. I worked with a pharmacist on taking lament to counter at many of the side effects. I would say the biggest side effect was the occasional fatigue. I did not experience the weight gain until I started coming off of the prednisone the supplements that I was taking her morning, supplements and supplements
I heard corticosteroids should only be taken on a short term basis. Can long term use cause adrenal suppression
Hi dr, I have a question that may seem a bit strange, but if you can just provide me with an answer I would really appreciate it. If someone takes prednisone lower than 0.50 mg like for example 0.30 mg a day, will this cause serious side effects in the long run?
Can Prednisone care leprosy
Hello, the injection steroid did not give me any bad symptoms when given. I bc felt great. However pill digested methyl prednisone gives me horrible heart race. I believe there is something else in the pill that are toxic or stomach issues reacting.
Same here
I took Prednisone for approximately ten days.
Are there any natural steroids for example supplements ?
I heard but vitamin D3 with mk7
I look at what the prednisone is taking the nutrients from that is the most worse and what I can afford. Then buy the nutrients as I slowly taper. I holding it at 20 but the severe horrid pain, weakness and breathing are extremely difficult for me. I do what I can and pray for strength to get thru and heal. I know I can never go fully off. I must control it at a lower dose and add back the nutrients it robs my body of.
I have been on steroids for 4 years for RA ,Oa.PR, on and on. My RA will not do anything to change my routine. Why?
Hiccuf s are due to acidity caused by steroids. Treat acidity
I’m on one week of steroids for dm and I want to quit them, I was given 3 month supply can I quit them sooner with out the adrenal risk?
I hate prednisone 100 % !
I was seeing a pain management doctor whose job it was to reduce pain, and all he seemed to do was create it
They often excell at that, unfortunately.

I got diabetes, fkn FAT, 80 LBS,bone fractures, depression
Help!
Hello. Do you feel eye fatigue too? And feeling of skin tightness?
Moon face. A side effect.
Are all bioligics only in injectable form?
