  • After hearing about Selena Gomez being victim of body shaming yet again, today I'm sharing my experience with chronic illness, prednisone medication side effects. Hopefully learning about this will help others understand what it's like to go through this and how little control there is over the effects of the medication. Thank you for watching 💖

I gained 12lbs in 15 days with 60mg, had insomnia and my mood was always negative and angry. This was just after a few days of use. I had to stop it. But I feel for anyone who have to take these meds.

Ngl I thought it was filler. Not that it would be a big deal either way, everyone (celebs) has filler nowadays. But this definitely convinced me that it is possible and probable that it's a side effect of medication like Prednisone. Regardless though, she doesn't owe it to us to look like her teenaged self, she's 30. People change, their bodies change, their faces change. This is a good reminder that some things are none of my business.

I thought she looked like she had gained weight between seasons 1&2 of only murders in the building. Not saying that was bad, just that to me it didn’t look like fillers but very normal

I've never related to a video as much as this one. For the last year and a bit I have had to take medications for a different illness which gave me the same side effects. It was so horrible seeing my body and face swell up and gain weight regardless of the amount of food eaten or exercise done. I've only recently been able to go off medication and going back to normal. This is such an important message, thank you for sharing your story! xxx

I’m happy you could relate. I actually forgot to mention that when I tried to exercise my joints would hurt so badly that it prevented me from running, etc. I’m happy you’re moving on from it, you’re so strong always remember that ❤❤

My mom was on Prednisone for severe asthma. She said they referred to it as "moon face"

I gained 15 pounds in 3 weeks and the comments I’ve been getting from coworkers, close friends and family have been upsetting and I just needed to see today that I am not alone.

I really appreciate you taking the time to candidly talk about your experience and its hardships. Its so important to share these stories.
I have a few chronic illnesses, some which were diagnosed when I was a young child. Consequently, I have always had to take various medications daily (my whole life), including prednisone at different times. In late 2018 and throughout 2019, I was on a specific medication regularly which made the weight gain substantial. I felt so low, especially when I would see people from my past and feel their judgement -which was uncalled for even if it was natural weight gain from diet or a lack of exercise. It was difficult to not only feel like your body was an imposter, but also have others look down on you for it.
Thank you for opening up about this. I wish we didn't live in a society where Selena feels the need to explain herself and is dealing with so much hate.

Thank you for sharing your personal experience and sticking up for Selena Gomez. I’ve also had many health problems and side effects from medications that made me feel self-conscious or unhappy with my body image even though there’s nothing food or exercise related, I could have done. I hope more people will a stop body shaming people who are already dealing with difficult medical issues.

Thank you for sharing and for being open and vulnerable. My father was sick through most of my childhood and he was on a lot of medications, at times taking prednisone. He passed away in 2015. I remember he talked about how the springsteen song streets of philadelphia used to affect him. I’m sorry if this seems all over the place but I just wanted to say is that it doesnt matter what you look like, those that love you just want you to be happy and healthy.

wow. i haven't seen anyone on youtube talk about the negatives of autoimmune medications before, so thank you 🙌🙌
i also have an autoimmune disease, and have been gradually weaning off 50mg of prednisone for the past 6 months. i get weird facial hair growth, am insensitive to heat/cold and got the 'moon face' look in my first couple of months on the drug. yet, i have only ever gained at the most 1 - 2 kgs, eating ENTIRELY intuitively off an aip diet (auto-immune protocol version of paleo). amy myers writes an extremely helpful book on the benefits of eating like this. even though it seems like a crazy controlling cult to be a part of (with no gluten, dairy or processed sugar), my body is practically unchanged since i started on the prednisolone. i still have huge hunger cravings every-now-and-then, but my bodies ability to metabolise what i am eating has only been heightened. the aip focusses on doing all in your power to remove large amounts of inflammation caused by your diet, then reincorporating most foods back into your lifestyle. it is entirely up to the individual on how religiously you chose to follow the protocol. the aip way of eating obviously isn't going to work for everyone, but it is worth reading about.

      Hi Edith
I just want to do a short personal survey to study sleeping habits on autoimmune disorder.
      1. Do you or did you regularly sleep at night by 10:00, at 12:00 or after 12:00?
      2. Do you or did you regularly sleep for 5 hours or 7 hours a day?

Thank you for your video! I’m living what you describe word by word and you made me feel less alone or weak I guess. Made me cry. It is so shocking when you don’t recognise yourself in the mirror… But I’m not torturing myself with the insanely low kcal diet either. Because it’s already hard enough. So I’m letting it be and time will say. Thank you for sharing! ❤

I know I'm late to comment but I really appreciate this video. I was put on Depo Provera because I have endometriosis, which essentially results in a week out of every month where I sit on the couch in excruciating pain. I ended up discontinuing it after 6 months and starting a new medication, not because of the weight gain, but because of the affects on my mood. In the 6 months I was on it, I gained 50 pounds. I did nothing differently. I still went on walks 4 times a week. I didn't eat different. But I gained weight.

You called her overweight in the video, she has gained weight but I googled some pictures and I don't think she really looks that. Especially in recent 4th of July photos. But this video is 4 months old, so I don't know if something changed. In any case it messed me up a bit since I have similar body (but not as good boobs) and I don't think I am overweight based on weight lol

One day, when we understand autoimmune conditions better, we will shudder when we remember we used to prescribe corticosteroids. This is caveman toddler medical thinking, it doesn't belong in the 21st century.
