  • UPDATE: Improving Magneto Contacts | BikeBerry Tips and Tricks
    We've received a lot of concerns regarding electrical issues with the 2-stroke bike engine kits. If you're having inconsistent spark, poor performance, or unable to even create spark, it may be due to the magneto loop set's coating. Grab some sand paper and remove it for proper contact with the engine body as well as proper ground. WARNING: Doing so will make the magneto vulnerable to moister damage. I highly recommend sealing the magneto case with weather resistant sealant to prevent such damages.
    Thanks for following us! If you haven't subscribed yet, do so now so you're up to date with the latest news and tutorials on everything.

      Hand tight with socket/screw driver and a squeeze or hand tight and a quarter turn usually on small bolts like 10mms. Doesn't take much so don't muscle it like crazy.

    There are a lot o shortcomings in this self-proclaimed "short in-depth" video. Mainly, what do you do with the white wire if you don't use it??
    And for those of you wondering how to gap the mag correctly, take a business card and fit it between the magnet and the u-shape piece. ''Tis perfect!

  • @adamcolbertmusic
    @adamcolbertmusic 6 років тому +7

    This was actually EXACTLY the "diagram" and explanation of the magneto I was looking for!!!! Though you didn't go in depth, it all made sense for me: the engine is physically rotating the magnet (powered via crankshaft etc), and the bar magnet in side (which has a north-south polarity of course) spins perpendicularly against the direction of the copper coils, effectively becoming a AC generator because it induces current in the leads of the magneto (ALSO it gives the iron engine block ITSELF an electromagnetic charge), and the current in the leads from the magneto are 'ultimately' connected to the spark plug, which, being at another side of the engine block, completes the circuit into the engine, the engine block itself also being the ground. I've still yet to figure out HOW the spark plug works (not "what" it does, not it's "purpose" in the engine, but HOW it works :) ), but this vid really unlocked a piece of the entire puzzle!!! :) :) :)

      Luckily, magnetos are simple designs and have no actually electric parts and very few moving parts. This makes it hard to damage any magneto without actually physical damage being asserted to it. A pull start add on, should work just fine.

      I connected a ground wire into the ground wires for the coil from the magneto and bolted it onto the frame at a bottle mount hole.(I have rubber mounts under the engine and knew this will insulate it.)Basically your clutch cable acts as your only ground to the bike frame otherwise.The paint on your frame ,at the motor mounts,would have to be sanded off otherwise.Maybe.?..Food for thoughts.

    How many magneto need replace? During a engine life

    • @bikeberry
      @bikeberry  6 років тому +1

      The basic construction of a magneto is a magnet and a coil. The simple design makes it dependable and long lasting, as long as it is properly installed and not abused. All magnets gradually lose their magnetic charge, but most will have a similar life span as the engine, if not longer.

There must be a small gap between the magnetic and the coil ,if not the engine will not run right an may not fire at all and also cause severe damage to both parts,,and sanding is not important either, ,,if you tighten the four screws down tight you will have great contact, so again very misleading video
