How to get the "Rust in Peace" GUITAR TONE - Dave Mustaine (Megadeth) - Bias Amp & Bias FX

- Using Bias Amp 2 and Bias FX, I show how to accurately get the guitar sound from Dave Mustaine and Marty Friedman (Megadeth) on the "Rust in Peace" album.
IMPORTANT 2023 UPDATE - Some users have reported they can't find my presets when searching Bias FX 2. This seems to be a glitch in their search system. To solve the issue, type in the search field "DMO -" (yes, just DMO followed by a space and hyphen) and choose "Sort by Popularity" in the drop-down beside the search field. You should see all of my presets.
Please note many users have taken my presets and created their own versions with similar names. To make sure you are downloading my original presets, my user name in Bias FX 2 is "Dan Oliv". Also, my original presets have a lot more downloads than the non-original versions.

Bias FX 2 UPDATE - My preset featured on this video was created with the first version of Bias FX. With the release of Bias FX 2, I uploaded a new version of my preset to the tone cloud (each version of the software has its own separate tone cloud). My FX 2 preset is the same as the original version except it has a dual path for live playing (featuring a slight delay for a richer stereo sound). If you want the recording version of my preset like it is shown on my video, just disable the dual path.
Here's the list of the gear I'm using:
. Bias Amp 2 and Bias FX guitar modeling software - metal distortion and Mesa Boogie Mark IIc+ amp simulation with tone matching feature
. Line 6 UX-1 audio interface
. Reaper Digital Audio Workstation
. iMac with Yosemite OS
. Jackson King V KV2 guitar with original Floyd Rose tremolo and Seymour Duncan pickups
My guitar medley features these songs: "Take No Prisoners", "Five Magics", title track, "Holy Wars... The Punishment Due" and "Hangar 18".

Agree, if you have Bias FX 2 pro, use the grey preamp in the distortion section and then this preset becomes perfect, at least for my guitar

@@hinjurock Normally I would agree, but the Bogner Triple Giant rack mount preamp (not the halfler one) is extremely rare as they only made like 25 of them.

Also, use real tube amps and pedal effects, not lame fake digital modeling bullshit.
guitar don't matter what the hell. JB in the bridge or something mid-output (nothing like an EMG 81 or too modern like a BKP Juggernaut. Marshall type amp with decent amounts of treble and mids with a boost. Their tone isn't really that hard to get.
Ow WOW dude - I have this same exact Guitar model! The BGF KV2! Custom shop. I've put the other picks in tho'. I can't even remember what they're called. Like the SH6 or something.... How do you like the tone?
So all I havre to do to get this tone is plug in a cable frmo my amp to the computer and boot up the program qith your rust in peace preset and it will sound like yours in the video? :)

Does anyone know how to create the exact tone? I downloaded the presets in bias fx2 but it is not the same sound if someone knows and explains me I will appreciate it.
I have found a lot of Bias FX presets do NOT work if one does not own Bias AMP (due to creation inside bias amp) : The amps just contain wild noise/distorted clipping. Did u make this compatible for a Bias FX-ONLy user? THanks. I like the sound!
I'm not sure what the issue is. Did you try contacting Positive Grid? They're great at replying to customer inquiries. If you have a standard Bias FX 2 license, the tones should work well. As far as I can tell, you'd only need the Bias Amp license if you want to get "inside" the amp to fine tune it. One similar issue I had was, tones created in Bias Amp 1 didn't sound good when I migrated them to Bias Amp 2. I ended up recreating my tones in Bias Amp 2.
I don’t understand this at all. Do you record the playing once and then just copy and paste it 3 more times? How do you make it sound like it’s not concentrated in one ear?

Amazing job, I have a doubt about how can I play solos? What do I need to adjust? for example I want to play Tornado of souls' solo
The same preset should be ok for the solos. It's just that Mustaine has a very different soloing style compared to Friedman.
@@dmometalguitar I tried to play solos of RIP but I feel that it needs to have more punch because Solos sounds different ( Marty Friedman) to riffs, I don't know what I need to adjust , I used a booster but it changes sounds too treble , help me please.

This is great... your tone has a little bit of the fuzz grit factor that’s very evident in the record , whilst the lambchopper one does not.

@@theedgera2877 LOL all good.. I spent a lot on bias amp 2 and bias fx 2. While I still own that software and bias rack, I.more recentky switched to Axe fx. I've seen lambchoppers Bias Fx videos as well as him more recently combinng his 25W DSL or Mesa mark 5 25w with pedals and eqs to get some very close to album tones.. they are great but to my ears not identical to the album tone as achieved with modellers. Also when I previously made comparison the lam365 I Waa not referring to his real Amy tones but was in comparison to his very own bias fx 2 presets
hi man, i got some issues with this audio interface (Line 6 UX1), when im trying to configure the audio settings in both bias amp and bias fx, i go to 'output device --> ASIO UX1' and it says ''ASIO DRIVER OPEN FAILURE'', i wonder if you had this issue before, i don't know what to do :(
I'm on a Mac so it would be hard for me to tell. But Line 6's customer service is great. You should call or email them.
i think i'll sell the line6, i gave up myself on trying, it seems to be a driver problem with win10

i believe it has 59' in the neck and definitly a sh4 jb/tb in the bridge
Rust in Peace is the best MEGADETH album by far.
Eh, I disagree. It's in my top 3 though. But I much prefer Peace sells even with that cover that didn't need to be on there.
Not only the best Megadeth album, but also one of the greatest albums in heavy metal history! The guitar playing on this album is beyond belief!

For the people who dont have ax fx can you tell us the tone settings?
The settings by themselves wouldn't help create the tone. The amp is modeled based on the actual Rust in Peace guitar sound. Watch my "How to get the Far Beyond Driven guitar tone" for a full explanation.
