    All of Marty's solos were using the Bogner Triple Giant on that album. They switched to CAE 3+ preamps for Countdown.. There was a page dedicated to thier sounds/gear/settings per album but can't find it now. Four of the first (only) 25 Triple Giant's went to Megadeth.

    • @ShredHeads
      @ShredHeads  Рік тому +2

      I do think they used the triple giant. Some people say it was an 800. Honestly I have owned 800’s and they don’t sound sonically that similar to what we hear on RIP. I own a bogner fish and it sounds a lot more similar to what I hear on RIP.

    Dave has said that he used a Marshall JCM800 to record rust in peace, or at least for the holy wars guitar solo, they put all the knobs on 10 and faced the cab to a wall and put the mic in between according to his book.

    • @ShredHeads
      @ShredHeads  2 роки тому +10

      It’s certainly a possibility. I have read his book however, my biggest theory against them using Marshall 800’s is that the album’s sound doesn’t sound like a typical Marshall or modded Marshall. It has this really gritty quality that I do hear in that Bogner pre amp.

  • @Kaptime
    @Kaptime 2 роки тому +2

    I heard it was a Bogner triple preamp(prototype or release version) with BK Butler RealTube 922 for the Marty solos.

    • @ShredHeads
      @ShredHeads  2 роки тому

      We will probably never know for sure but yeah, that’s what I think they used.

    • @Nghilifa
      @Nghilifa 2 роки тому +1

      @@ShredHeads You can see the BK Butler Real Tube in that same video-clip that featured the Triple Giant preamp. It's right above it in fact. Michael Nielsen also did an entire video on that preamp on his channel, it's DEFINITELY the one Marty used for the leads on RiP as well as the lead sounds on the tour that supported the release of that album (ie from 90 to 91).

    • @ShredHeads
      @ShredHeads  2 роки тому +1

      @@Nghilifa I have one and It does sound like the album but there is so much conflicting stuff out there. Marty himself stated they used Marshall's and some of the pre-amp stuff they had, but who really knows its very likely for at least some leads they used the real tube II.

  • @DarkStoneCastle

    That sounded very close. So I need to go buy a $1800 Kemper Profile Head (or rack) and order the $10 profile pack and that's it? I see where this is a direct profile and not studio. I don't know much about Kemper but researching now.

    • @ShredHeads
      @ShredHeads  2 роки тому

      Thanks for your comment. No, you certainly don't need to buy a Kemper to get something similar. The Kemper is a great unit but there are other more budget friendly options. my top budget pick would be the Marshall DSL series. If money is no concern you could also look into getting a Bogner ubershall or other Bogner amp. In my opinion the Bogner stuff has a similar sound to what we hear on RIP.

  • @frankrizzo7781
    @frankrizzo7781 Рік тому

    Dave had 2 of the bogner hardwired triple giants. These were builds by bogner himself and are kind of as rare as hens teeth. The Hafler release a Triple Giant preamp that gives 90 % to of the hardwired and you can still buy used for around 1000. A bogner fish will cost you at least 5k and I have not seen a bogner triple giant for sale in 20 years.

    • @ShredHeads
      @ShredHeads  Рік тому +1

      Yeah, I mean it’s a rumor it was used on the record. It is confirmed they used it live. I have also never seen one in the wild.

    • @ShredHeads
      @ShredHeads  2 роки тому +3

      I'll make that video at some point. Experiment using the Bogner fish models in the axe fx. That's the best pre-amp to use IMO for the RIP sound.

  • @frankrizzo7781
    @frankrizzo7781 2 роки тому

    You can still find a Hafler Triple Giant. Add tube poweramp, 4x12 sealed cabinet, eq to scoop mids and pedals.

    • @ShredHeads
      @ShredHeads  2 роки тому

      You can use a Hafler TG, However Bogner himself said that the ones he made the originals, sound different and even went on to say they really aren’t even the same pre amp. I’m sure you can still get some good sounds out of it.

    • @frankrizzo7781
      @frankrizzo7781 2 роки тому

      @@ShredHeads You are correct , but trying to find a Bogner Triple Giant is like trying to find a hen with teeth. There is the Bogner serial 010 Fish preamp for sale in Reverb for 7 or 8 thousand. I to see Megadeth play a bunch of time in San Diego and Dave was said he had a Hafler Triple Giant in his rack for when the Bogner had to get sent back to get fixed. There was definitely much more variation in the handwired Bogners .

    • @ShredHeads
      @ShredHeads  2 роки тому

      @@frankrizzo7781 yeah, an original Bogner TG is pretty much impossible to find. I do have an original Bogner Fish and it sounds a lot like Rust in peace. I will make an in depth video about it in the near future.

    • @ShredHeads
      @ShredHeads  2 роки тому

      I actually have an original fish with the vht 2150 power amp. It does sound a lot like RIP definitely more than an your average jcm 800. It’s likely they used the triple giant based more on the time line of when the album was made. The album was tracked in early 90’. The fish came out in 90’ but I believe it was mid 90’ when it was officially released. It’s possible they had a prototype of the fish maybe, who knows. The albums producer mike clink did know bogner during this time so it’s a believable rumor that they used some kind of bogner on this record.

      I don’t remember exactly, I do remember that this tone doesn’t have a lot of low end so run the bass lower than the mids and treble. Gain shouldn’t be cranked either. Hit the strings hard for a tight attack.

    • @ShredHeads
      @ShredHeads  10 місяців тому

      It’s not a preset lmao. It’s a Kemper profile of a very rare pre amp that megadeth used for a brief period during the rust in peace era. It was confirmed by video evidence that megadeth was using it at the time. I understand that not everyone has a Kemper but that is in fact what I used for the video.
