They wouldnt be able to follow his orders to stand down because he wasnt, in effect, the leader in that scenario. There is no "order 62 kill all traitor clones" for example active

Which is ironic to the Storm Troopers, which were designed to look the same as each other. Right down to the height and weight, it almost looks like an endless tide of the same person was coming at you in a battle.
It's kind of an irony considering they all have the same faces, at their core they are the same guy and yet the stormtroopers who are actually all sorts of different people never took off their helmets. You would never guess they're different, you'd think they are the actual clones.

@@OXY187source on any of this? Afaik the commandos were pretty indifferent to the change in government and the Jedi in legends and still are in canon. They just rarely ever had to interact with Jedi or deal with civilians and didn't learn to see themselves as anything more than good soldiers that follow orders.
Many people forget just how unique Rex was as both a character and clone trooper in Star Wars. He started off as a regular "shiny" clone trooper and served in the first Battle of Genosis as featured in Attack of Clones, was later promoted and selected for ARK Trooper training were he met Commander Cody, his back story is amazing. Am I also the only one who noticed that the 501st Legion pumped out the most independently thinking clones like Rex, Fives, Echo, and others. I think that's one of the reasons Palpatine kept a close eye on 501st in particular because to him, independent thinking clones were a threat to his plans.

I think the main reason for the independence of clones in the 501st is due to the close contact with Anakin, Obi Wan, and Yoda. The three of them encouraged independence and their differences. Even in the 1st episode (I think) of the clone wars, when Yoda and 3 clones have to fight off a platoon of droids, Yoda himself see's each clone as completely different and unique in the force, and encourages their uniqueness, as that's what sets them apart from droids. But Obi Wan, and especially Anakin, heavily emphasized individualism and independence. Not all Jedi's do, even towards the end of the war. Many treat the clones as just another number, but our MCs know better. And so this encouragement and pragmatic approach naturally allows for more independence to grow which leads to forward thinking and higher quality troopers.
Can you really blame them? Most of the clone legions develop or either somewhat get their personalities from their jedi generals. Look at the clones who were under general's that valued each of their life like Plo, Anakin, Obi-wan and others. The way they think was far more different to your regular "good soldiers follow orders" clones. Especially the 501st under Anakin.
Most of the 501st were reformed into the special squad that was under direct command of Vader, nicknamed “Vader’s Fist” and if I’m not mistaken Rex was a commander among this elite unit.
He may be a commando, but he's still a clone. If anything, the Commando is more likely to disobey the empire's order, since they were made to think for themselves and be more independent.

I like seeing the behavior of the commando and clones during the dialog. Small details. Am disappointed over how Disney nuked most of Rex’s team in one episode though.
I'm glad they did that tho, it shows how not to get too attached on things or ppl because it adds a toll on the ones who live on great story telling tho, just remember the fallen and enjoy the moments they had together fighting together for something they believed in

This was so sastisfying to watch especially after Rex failed to convince Jesse and his troops to stand down on the ship. It was heartbreaking to watch Ashoka and Rex's 501st all die. So being able to watch Rex convince not only Wolffe, but the rest of Wolffe's clones to stand down was awesome.
The fact that gregor got to keep his entire commando armor and helm makes me happy, hell this scene was truly what makes me love the clones more since both sides have both regular and commando clones and understanding that even if both are on different sides they are still brothers and they respect one another

I totally believe those clones would have kicked his ass if he pushed the issue.
For how Plo treated them and how they grew up as if he was their mentor? For some odd reason, even with the chips, why do I feel like the Wolffpack would rather beat Palpatine to death rather than obey Order 66 against Plo (yes, I know the pack weren't probably the ones who killed the guy)
I hate the chips for this reason. It takes away so much potential drama (not to mention the original point of Order 66 thematically) by stripping the clones of their agency. It also makes no sense that it’s only there for Order 66, but that’s a whole ‘nother issue…😂

Rex handled that so well. Like how do you convince someone with a chip their head ordering them to consider you an enemy. Just goes to show how much respect Rex and Wolfe had for each other, and how Rex still treated Wolfe with respect even though he’s technically with the Empire (against his will).
Kinda didn't like how they kept Wolffe's orginal armor design. The whole reason the empire got rid of color on clone trooper armor is to remove their personality and make them more obedient
Ngl, kinda neat detail that the Commando actually questions Wolffe on his decision given their increased independence over the other clones while the rest just follow their Commander without question.
Kind of wished they made an alternate timeline or an “What if” episode or a mini series where the entirety of the clone army does find out about the truth instead of just the few and fought back against the empire and did a very good job at it.
The one thing i hate about bad batch is how they handled clone commandos their armor was known to take alot of punishment and keep the trooper wlive also they can actually ignore their inhibitors due to their trwining so there is no way so many remained loyal

yeh they don't really explore them enough. Tbh I could see them staying loyal not because of the chips, but because they believed in the Empire. Commanos in legends also stuck with the Empire after all. But in disney era they're just cannon fodder

I just realized, only time we see Clone Commando armor more often is when they're serving the Empire. Kinda sad that we almost never saw them when they fought for the Republic.
I’m pretty sure Rex was the one who lead the relief force for wolf after the battalion he was apart of and the Jedi/padawan he served under all were nearly slaughtered, they used to not always be grey, but had a reddish armor originally, dawned violet armor while being assigned to the 501st and then settled on the grey after being delegated to relief missions while their battalion replenished over time Or like at least the comics I used to own as a kid had this lore Pretty sure geetlys got a vid on it
Oh I didn't know this show was still going. It's been years. I remember they had a chip implanted in their heads that made them turn against their jedi comrades. This is a well made show.
Pretty sick scene, I haven't watched past season 1 yet. The acting and lore is pretty cool and well-done, despite being animation. No need for an unnecessary shootout, which other studios and directors may have done with it. Also, commandos are sick. Hope we get the books or game animated one day, or finished with another game.
The Commandos are training the first generation of Stormtroopers. They also guard top-secret, susceptible areas and operate in high-value missions. They are this era’s counterpart to the Death Trooper and Dark Trooper.
So, what's the deal with the inhibitor chips now in this show? Have their effects worn off on most clones by this point? Does Wolffe not have one, because he seems to be acting like his normal self compared to how Jesse was in the Clone Wars finale? I haven't gotten this far in the show yet. So, I wasn't sure if they'll eventually explain it or if they already gave an answer and I perhaps missed it.
i haven't watched this show and I might be wrong but I think the chip isn't at play here maybe. Jesse was acting up because he was following protocol 66 and Rex was conspiring with a Jedi. I think they're just their normal selves here
I like to partly think how wolffe and his troopers acted like they did is because of the clout/respect the 501st and rex earnt in the war especially if you include the original battlefront 2 campaign journal nartion where it says the 501st got the best of the war but also the worst. If you're a soldier in the same army and know the records anyone who survived in the 501st legion would have the respect deserved from any and all
Perfect timing, im currently forcing myself to watch rebels and just met back up with rex and the one thing i dont get is, why is rex so adamant about not fighting the empire?? I could have sworn the last thing we saw of him was he was basically help building the very beginnings of the rebellion because he mentioned helping out some "special friends cause trouble" or something like that. I dont remember anything after that, so why did he just suddenly submit like a dog in rebels until ezra shows up and gives him courage to fight the empire again? He should already be an INTEGRAL part of the rebellion at this point instead of a slightly overweight, what? 30 year old? That clone aging sucksss lol. But yeah, why did he suddenly just give up when he was basically a part of the first rebel group? When did he link up with wolfee and Gregor in that clone wars walker? I'm lost lmao. Unless I didn't pay attention.
It’s moments like these where I will never understand why people are so adamant that inhibitor chips were a better retcon vs having clones retain their autonomy. There’s a genuine negotiation between what’s right and orders from an authority. There is so much room for amazing story telling but order 66 is boiled down to “the chip made me do it!!” Why wouldn’t the chip be able to do the same thing here?
Chips were apart of the canon lore so it’s annoying and ridiculous to see so many free, independent clones walking around. It’s even lazier writing to ignore previously established conventions in favor of a more “morally grey” storyline. Moral grayness and complexity can be good but it does not always translate to being a good story.
While I don’t agree with you about not having chips at all but I do agree that it’s kinda dumb how the chips are really only used to make them obedient to take out the Jedi and that’s really it.
I agree completely. The tragedy of the clones is lost, the moral dilemma of a good soldier vs a good person…the point in Legends was an allegory for WWII and military indoctrination as a whole. By making the chips a thing, they ruined half the tragedy of Order 66 that the show itself was supposed to be building towards. Having clones choose to execute the Order and live with the guilt was always more interesting and had more story telling potential than the huge plot hole that was the chips.

I’ve had people argue that it’s hypocritical to argue against the chips because the argument goes; chips = mind control but no chips = mind control through conditioning so it’s all kind control anyways!! checkmate!! But those people fail to recognize that there’s still room for choice to be made at an individual level without the chips. You said it yourself; good soldier vs good person. The chips remove all agency and all chances. You don’t lose necessarily lose it all with mental conditioning. There’s still a chance to come back.

They’re both idea guys with a tendency to constantly retcon and stumble on the details. With George, he sucked at writing dialogue and directing actors and contracted tunnel vision at other times, failing to recognize that what made sense to him wouldn’t work the same to the audience. Dave on the other hand fails to think through many of his creative decisions, only to realize he made a mistake years later.
Probably shortly after the show he leaves and joins Rex, Echo, and Gregor. I imagine after this confrontation with defector clones he reflects on Order 66. Now, Wolffe wasn't the one who killed Plo Koon, that was Captain Jag in an ARC-170. But it isn't unlikely that he was also on Cato Neimodia and maybe so were a few other Jedi who he might have started a search party for, being a commander. I honestly think we will probably get another animated spinoff series set after Bad Batch but before Rebels, about his Clone Rebellion, how Wolffe joins, how they presumably fail, lose Echo, and end up where they are in Rebels, alone.

Plo Kloon was killed by the 91st recon Unit white armor red insignia. Commander Wolffe wasn't behind the trigger.

I love how in the Bad Batch, Rex is shown much more in command. We never really saw that in TCWs except for the Umbara arc.

Kind of wished they made an alternate timeline or an “What if” episode or a mini series where the entirety of the clone army does find out about the truth instead of just the few and fought back against the empire and did a very good job at it.
The one thing i hate about bad batch is how they handled clone commandos their armor was known to take alot of punishment and keep the trooper wlive also they can actually ignore their inhibitors due to their trwining so there is no way so many remained loyal

yeh they don't really explore them enough. Tbh I could see them staying loyal not because of the chips, but because they believed in the Empire. Commanos in legends also stuck with the Empire after all. But in disney era they're just cannon fodder

I’m pretty sure Rex was the one who lead the relief force for wolf after the battalion he was apart of and the Jedi/padawan he served under all were nearly slaughtered, they used to not always be grey, but had a reddish armor originally, dawned violet armor while being assigned to the 501st and then settled on the grey after being delegated to relief missions while their battalion replenished over time

Oh I didn't know this show was still going. It's been years. I remember they had a chip implanted in their heads that made them turn against their jedi comrades. This is a well made show.

Pretty sick scene, I haven't watched past season 1 yet. The acting and lore is pretty cool and well-done, despite being animation. No need for an unnecessary shootout, which other studios and directors may have done with it. Also, commandos are sick. Hope we get the books or game animated one day, or finished with another game.

The Commandos are training the first generation of Stormtroopers. They also guard top-secret, susceptible areas and operate in high-value missions. They are this era’s counterpart to the Death Trooper and Dark Trooper.

So, what's the deal with the inhibitor chips now in this show? Have their effects worn off on most clones by this point? Does Wolffe not have one, because he seems to be acting like his normal self compared to how Jesse was in the Clone Wars finale? I haven't gotten this far in the show yet. So, I wasn't sure if they'll eventually explain it or if they already gave an answer and I perhaps missed it.
i haven't watched this show and I might be wrong but I think the chip isn't at play here maybe. Jesse was acting up because he was following protocol 66 and Rex was conspiring with a Jedi. I think they're just their normal selves here

I like to partly think how wolffe and his troopers acted like they did is because of the clout/respect the 501st and rex earnt in the war especially if you include the original battlefront 2 campaign journal nartion where it says the 501st got the best of the war but also the worst. If you're a soldier in the same army and know the records anyone who survived in the 501st legion would have the respect deserved from any and all
And later on Rex and Wolffe will find Gregor and in a few years they'll meet Kanan, Ezra, Sabine and Zeb and find out that Ahsoka's alive.

Perfect timing, im currently forcing myself to watch rebels and just met back up with rex and the one thing i dont get is, why is rex so adamant about not fighting the empire?? I could have sworn the last thing we saw of him was he was basically help building the very beginnings of the rebellion because he mentioned helping out some "special friends cause trouble" or something like that. I dont remember anything after that, so why did he just suddenly submit like a dog in rebels until ezra shows up and gives him courage to fight the empire again? He should already be an INTEGRAL part of the rebellion at this point instead of a slightly overweight, what? 30 year old? That clone aging sucksss lol. But yeah, why did he suddenly just give up when he was basically a part of the first rebel group? When did he link up with wolfee and Gregor in that clone wars walker? I'm lost lmao. Unless I didn't pay attention.

There is so much room for amazing story telling but order 66 is boiled down to “the chip made me do it!!” Why wouldn’t the chip be able to do the same thing here?
Chips were apart of the canon lore so it’s annoying and ridiculous to see so many free, independent clones walking around.
It’s even lazier writing to ignore previously established conventions in favor of a more “morally grey” storyline. Moral grayness and complexity can be good but it does not always translate to being a good story.
While I don’t agree with you about not having chips at all but I do agree that it’s kinda dumb how the chips are really only used to make them obedient to take out the Jedi and that’s really it.
I agree completely. The tragedy of the clones is lost, the moral dilemma of a good soldier vs a good person…the point in Legends was an allegory for WWII and military indoctrination as a whole. By making the chips a thing, they ruined half the tragedy of Order 66 that the show itself was supposed to be building towards.
Having clones choose to execute the Order and live with the guilt was always more interesting and had more story telling potential than the huge plot hole that was the chips.

I’ve had people argue that it’s hypocritical to argue against the chips because the argument goes; chips = mind control but no chips = mind control through conditioning so it’s all kind control anyways!! checkmate!!
But those people fail to recognize that there’s still room for choice to be made at an individual level without the chips. You said it yourself; good soldier vs good person.
The chips remove all agency and all chances. You don’t lose necessarily lose it all with mental conditioning. There’s still a chance to come back.

Sidenote, but it’s writing decisions like this that really make Filoni the successor to George, for both good and ill. They’re both idea guys with a tendency to constantly retcon and stumble on the details.
With George, he sucked at writing dialogue and directing actors and contracted tunnel vision at other times, failing to recognize that what made sense to him wouldn’t work the same to the audience. Dave on the other hand fails to think through many of his creative decisions, only to realize he made a mistake years later.
In Rebels Wolf removes his chip and joins Gregor and Rex. When did this happen?
Probably shortly after the show he leaves and joins Rex, Echo, and Gregor. I imagine after this confrontation with defector clones he reflects on Order 66. Now, Wolffe wasn't the one who killed Plo Koon, that was Captain Jag in an ARC-170. But it isn't unlikely that he was also on Cato Neimodia and maybe so were a few other Jedi who he might have started a search party for, being a commander.
I honestly think we will probably get another animated spinoff series set after Bad Batch but before Rebels, about his Clone Rebellion, how Wolffe joins, how they presumably fail, lose Echo, and end up where they are in Rebels, alone.
This should have been a way bigger deal that it was treated as.
