I’ve come to the conclusion that FWB does not work unless you have no real physical attraction to begin with and if that’s the case there’s no point in continuing because sooner or later you get tired of it. I’ve found that either one of the involved gets more emotionally attached. I tried FWB with a girl and I started to feel guilty when I couldn’t reciprocate her fondness for me and I started to see the sadness in her. I knew I maybe keeping her from finding her real love of her life. I knew I had to let her go despite the fact that sleeping with her occasionally was so much fun and I enjoyed her cheerful teasing personality.
I think this is a very honorable approach.

I was stunned because we were so close, like buddies
I asked him what happened and he said he met someone special and he thinks she’s “the one”
I asked why we need to be total strangers and he said he was just using me for easy sex because he was sick of masterbating and being lonely. He said I was a “pleasant distraction” while he was waiting for someone special to show up in his life.
I asked if he was planning to use her for sex like he did for me, and he said “no she’s way too special for that - I haven’t even kissed her yet”

But I just don't understand the mentality of a woman who is okay with it. As a woman, I know how I can get attached to a person even through texting but I just am unable to understand the mentality of a woman who is sleeping with a man without getting attached.

I have found that if a woman has a FWB she makes better choices in the guy she really wants. It's been my observation that when sexual needs are met. They don't put up with a really toxic guy because the sex is bomb.

If a FWB relationship starts to dissolve, the man will typically become more emotional than the woman; not because of love lost, but because of losing a sex partner. The ratio of available FWB partners is probably 1 woman for every 50 men. The loss of a FWB partner for a man would be much more devastating than for a woman.

I had a friend that offered a lot of benefits. She knew how to get the maximum amount for income tax refunds. The years I knew her, I was getting over $10.000 minimum, every year. She moved far away 8 years into our friendship. After she left my life, my tax refunds returned to $1200, often less. That was a friend I wish I never lost. I truly miss her, not just because of the income tax refunds. She likely never even thinks of me.

Agree with most of what you said, the not having sex and not being healthy not so much. Nor the ‘being single’ being the hardest thing during covid. Death was probably the hardest thing during covid and I have and made a lot of friends during that period during the brief times we were let outside. I sleep around a lot now, but also had a long period when I didn’t, I just feel that sweeping statements as such highlighted can make people, in opposing situations to your options, feel invalidated.

So I am dating a lady and I recently found out that two of her friends are, former FWB, who she didn't disclose, and I am bit uncomfortable with that friendship esp with their communication pattern. How do you handle this situation for someone who remains friend with their FWB of 14 years?
A friend and I are about to start engaging in a fwb situation but we are long-distance (we live across the country) So it would be pre-planned traveling to see each other. We have been very clear about communicating our intentions and that this is not turning into a relationship because of many factors (I am separating from my husband, he is divorced and has a kid, the distance, etc). But our sexual attraction to each other is undeniable but we also value our friendship to not want to "fuck it up" so it's a risk that I'm wondering if living in different states offsets? I guess I am just curious about your take on this because it is not the norm that we are right down the street. Money, time, and planning go into our situation, making it interesting. This is also both of our first attempts at doing fwb.
Don't do it. It might be too late for you. Don't give into your sexual urges because you will ruin your friendship. Go look at all the long-term studies that says FWB is a bad idea. Feelings don't follow "communicating properly" or "rules".

I think she means don't talk other partners or dating experiences with the person you're in a FWB relationship with. Like the gossipy part of it. Bc you want to avoid jealousy but also set clear bounds around that relationship. But i think she is encouraging honesty about IF you're having sex with other ppl or not. How about a FWB when you’re in a sexless marriage? You love and don’t want to divorce the woman you’re married to, but a have a burning libido and need a comparable partner, and the need isn’t met at home. (She dreads having sex)

What happened with me was on Bumble, after I had been talking with the girl who ended up being my FWB, after we went on a date over food, I was very up front with her that I wasn't in a place for a committed relationship at this point, and just wanted to hang out and see where things go, just have fun and we each have our space.
