  • Hi everyone! 👋🏻 welcome to the channel, this is Marcus your Asian Tennis Boy
    I’m a full-time musician and part-time tennis aficionado
    Background:
I learnt the basics of tennis when I was 10, but didn’t start playing more until October 2021 thanks to the Rovo app which I used to find games; I started playing tennis once a month, once a fortnight, once a week, and as of July 2022 I was playing at least 4-5 times a week.
    Objectives:
My current level is a solid 3.5 to 4.0 and my goal is to work towards 4.5 by 2025
Subscribe if you want to follow me on this journey!
Today’s game was found on the Active Tennis Singles (Singapore) community and the match was played on the 2023 Ladder Season 2 on 17th October. I was bamboozled by a very solid Eugene 0-6 5-7

Eugene’s groundstrokes are on point in term of technique imo. Ball’s launch angle is high and dip real fast at the end. If he is at his best i think he deserves 5.0. Can you please share info about his racquet’s specs and whether he customize or not. Thanks a bunch

Eugene's forehand is BIG. We played a 3-6 set a while back, felt demolished, too.

Definitely not a 5.0 judging from his serves & overheads. Contrary to what u think, he will have more trouble with low & short balls rather than high & deep balls.

I would agree. Between 4.0 to 4.5 imo

Thanks for the feedback! I'll try utilising low & short balls against hard hitters next time. And apologies for the rating discrepancies, we don't have a universal system here in Singapore so my judgment might not be accurate!

      Yes a 3.5 definitely wont get 5 games in a set against a 5.0

@@alnorris251 I’m a good 3.5 and I’d be very happy to get five points in two sets from a 5.0!

Yea the 1st set he was playing lights out tennis!! Hardly any misses and even if he did he just bounced back with more winners 🤣

Your ball sits up too much and the placement is too short and central which is why Eugen can tee off your shots…I would try to vary your shots more with high balls and low balls so that eugen will have more trouble. Also hit more to his backhand and when he gives a weaker ball attack the forehand with a strong approach. I think the western grip will make it harder to hit passing shots.

    • @AsianTennisBoy
      @AsianTennisBoy  2 місяці тому

Thanks for your suggestions man, looking back that's what I realised too, my high balls which were meant to land deep were landing nicely in his strike zone, especially with his western grip. On hindsight I should've played more slice and targeted his backhand, something that I indeed need to adjust and work on during match play. Thanks a lot for sharing mate!

Many faults by your opponent as his right foot crosses over the centre line when serving from the advantage (left) side

  • @DonYang73

Yup definitely not a 5.0 Not even a good 4.5. A 4 at best. But enjoy the game anyway

Aye you're probably right, we don't have a standard rating system here so I'm not too sure how to rate most times

Here is why you lost so badly.
    1. Way too many errors
    2. Short balls perfect for punishing
    3. Lazy footwork and lack of speed

100% man! Working on these and stay tuned to more improvement hopefully
