This is highly illustrative for the Joes vs Pros survey on Tennis Channel in which average tennis players were asked if they could take a game off a pro and the great majority said yes, yes they could, LOL. Winston is a very good 4.5 or even better - he is a legit good amateur/club player who has invested thousands of hours seriously trying to improve his game and is better than 99% of regular "park" players who are way better than occasional players. He can barely hope for a game off of Govind, who, is a brilliant player but TBH, is a rusty, low-level pro.
Once you get to 5.0+ games on pros are realistic. Esp on fast courts. Low level pros outside the top 500 aren't really that much better than d1 players.
@@kalebball5144 it gets to be mostly mental and consistency at a certain point. That said, Govind just looks like he's messing around on a practice court here. If you pull up a tournament match with him he plays much tighter.
It's easy to sit back and say "390 rank isn't that high", but really think about what that means and ask yourself what you think your world tennis ranking might be... a million? 5 million?
I was with you unit the end. If you search this guy, you’ll find him hanging with Ben Shelton who I spent all week watching play at the highest levels. Obviously a big improvement in just 18 months when he was not even top 500 but the point is at that level, I think the difference would be imperceptible to most of us sub 5.0 players. I think govind was flying with one engine in this match.
@@kalebball5144 I don't know how many professional ATP tournaments you've been to, but I've been to dozens. A 5.0 player would have trouble getting points off an ATP touring pro much less a game.
Thank you for posting this! Probably the best thing I've seen so far to really demonstrate the difference between a really good rec player and even Challenger-level pros, because it's so hard to really tell that watching the pros play on TV (or even in person). The takeaways: 1. The level of fitness is insane. Govind gets to EVERYTHING; I can't even count the number of shots you hit that would either be winners or easy pop-ups if you were playing even the top players at your own level. 2. He takes a ball inside the baseline and the point is pretty much over. 3. Precision. Almost every rally, he'd hit at least one ball that would be "shot of the match" for a rec player. Clear winners on regular balls five feet behind the baseline and constantly painting lines. 4. Dude is 5'10" and was acing you like John Isner. The difference in pace and, again, precision is ridiculous.
The sad story of that video is that most of the commentators really like it without understanding what they just saw. ITF dude played on his 60% abilities maximum by tactics, patterns, and power. Also, in that match yall never find anything mental, which is the cost of 99% of the real match in the ranking tournament. And if everyone from comments just saw how better Govind is technically but absolutely can't get how better he is mentally. A friendship non-ranking match means nothing for both of them and the mental part is not reflected in the game. But it's way way more important in "money time" than all other skills like "big serve" or forehand with volleys. So it's just wasting of time when amateur players try to compare themselves with pros on non-ranking matches like that in their home courts 10 minutes from their house right after they took a shit on their own toilet and parked their car in the same place as a hundred times before. The ranking tournament is a wild story when you get to the court using an airplane and taxi and shuttle bus.. waiting for the match time in the locker room, fighting with your stomach after yesterday's food in a new place, and with jetlag after changing the time zone from +9 to -10. Tennis is not just the seed of your serves or the aiming of your forehand dude.
@@dorokhovea very astute comment and I think it’s something that is not discussed often enough in professional tennis and to some degree in competitive recreational tennis matches.
When I was teaching tennis for a living, I went to the US Open. I was 24, in my tennis prime, 5.5 level teaching pro. I was standing next to the players on the outer courts one thing was evident. I watched them, and remember thinking "Yep, I can hit the ball at that pace." But they were warming up and standing still... not even taking a step. Just banging the ball back and forth effortlessly (and this was 2 non-seeded dudes I never heard of). The accuracy was INSANE. Literally not even moving, just hitting the ball right to each other's racquets at 60-70 mph. People really don't understand how much better pros are than normal people. This guy was prolly holding 80% of his game back, prolly due to him being in recovery from an injury.
The fact that you took a game from a professional player is an incredible achievement. In the ground stroke rallies you did really well. The big (obvious) difference is the serve. You couldn't hurt him at all while he was hitting aces all over the place. I think he held back a little on the returns to get into some rallying. All in all a very decent match that you can be proud of.

Thanks for uploading. Interesting to see such a matchup. Govind was not giving 100% surely, but hit hard and served well. I think your game has more potential too, with finetuning and a better serve.

Govind has great overall game and consistency, and was controlling where he put the ball, I can only imagine what the playing a TOP 10 player would be like. Pros make the game look so easy, but we as spectators dont realize, they put in so much work behind the tournaments to play at such an elite level. Good job and match to Winston, keep it up
I agree with you, pros for sure make the game look easy. I still remember my first time playing tennis 20 years ago ( i was 17 back then), i thought it would be fairly easy because i was playing badminton and oh god was i wrong. First ball i hit went over the fence lol.

-finishing a point even when you have the edge seems really difficult. On a few occasions you missed a volley or overhead shot in a finishing position or let him get back into the point
Man, I’d live to be able to play as well as you! Well done!
Thanks for uploading. Interesting to see such a matchup. Govind was not giving 100% surely, but hit hard and served well. I think your game has more potential too, with finetuning and a better serve.
This shows you how the pro players differ in levels the ATP.
First ball i hit went over the fence lol.
this is great! thanks for putting this up. Govind seems like such a chill guy and I love his little screams whenever he makes a mistake hahah. Keep up the great work. SUBBED!
Thanks for sharing this. It really tells me the level of pros... Still great job Winston!
Fun set to watch. Winston played very well considering level difference.
Competed in quite a few sports and started to play tennis at a mature age. This is beautiful to watch!
Great vid ! Govind is awsome 💙
Wow Winston you played crazy good!!! That one game you straight up took it from Govind!!
But amazing sportsmanship by Govind, he obviously was not trying to go all out (until he lost one game 😂) and showed some Pro level defensive, that’s awesome content !!! Thanks Winston for showing us what it is to play a real pro !!!
Great job man! If I took a single game off of ANY player I'd be jazzed.
Love tennis, haven't played in years, watch it like it's football lol
Glad you got to 84K subscribers!
Good to see this Winston! You held your ground well for playing against a pro!
Great vid! Looks like Govind is going easy but hard for him to go all out in the situation. Thanks for posting!
Nice video
Both u guys seem to be super nice…well done!
Wow! Great Play! You guys hit hard and are really accurate.
Excellent camera footaga! Was so lovely to watch the game from this close angle. Would live that on television matches as well instead of the helicopter view hehe.
I was watching Govind's incredible match last night in the quarterfinals of a Challenger tournament on TV. The way he fought to win that match against the number 1 seed was just incredible, particularly going through some qualifying rounds already. It definitely brings this practice match into perspective that how good Govind is when healthy and also Winston was always a much better player than some thought 🤔
That was awesome Winston!!! Good job!! ❤❤ Thanks Govind for playing 😊
Thanks dude, Great and interesting video! know he was taking it easy, but you must be pretty darn good to do that well against him (guess USA 4.5 =~ old 4.2 over here, so yeah), your first returns were well impressive, posting from Wimbledon(my hometown) :D
It was so fun !!
I felt like I was really playing a game
2nd serve ace? The level difference is pretty insane. Nice to have pros in this channel once in a while. It's easy for him across the board but what is surprising is how easy it was for him to attack the the 2nd serve. It is like if you miss your 1st serve you're screwed haha
Even getting to duece twice was pretty sick bro. Govind serve toss is so consistent and great to watch how he hides his serve type
Enjoyed and subscribed thxxxx
That forehand winner at 7:05 was just uncalled for lol.
Proud of our boy, Winston! You played great, overall!
just getting into tennis, I enjoyed this video a lot. I am also amazed at how much power Govind generates in his serves and forehand. Subb'd hope to see more :)
Crazy how good a 7.0 is he was obviously playing like 50% intensity (or less) and casually banging away winners. Hey kudos to you for keeping up with him somewhat
