I remember this from my college days in the mid 80s. I've always considered most 80s music to have been a bunch of synthesizer banging garbage, so its ironic that this wonderful song that was an exception to that rule is largely forgotten except by those of us who where there at the time.
Its a good wakeup songs that you really don't have to explain to them when they get older. So many songs have too many double meanings. This is on of the clean songs that kids can listen too.
grew up with The Who in the 60's. They were always there at the edge led by Pete. Blew my mind to hear this the first time. The guy just keeps amazing.
His daughter, Emma looked so cool in this vid. Great hair and outfit! My hubby and I bonded over this song when we were dating. It's "our song!" We danced to it SO many times, Great video! Really fun. It's an homage to his dad who played clarinet in a Big Band during WW11 and was a well known musician in his day as well.
A song filled with energy, pizzazzz, flair, pure electricity...if you can't feel it you ain't got nothin' inside. Always loved song, I play the harp and I gotta tell ya it all comes together with that harp, the horns, the bass, pure energy, you just have to tap you feet & move. One of Pete's best from a great album...I believe it was from 1985 over 30 years have passed and this song still kicks...try listening to this while driving and keep it at the speed limit it is ....impossible...simply superb. Peace 2 ya from a 60 yr. old kid.
Great song, this really gets you going, this song has everything Horns, kicking Bass, Peter H. Evans on the Harp, even Peter T.'s daughter Emma (love the dancing & batoning with her arm in arm) does a little rap. I played the Harp not unusual for musicians to let others come up & jam. This song cannot be played while driving....whooooaaaa whoops. forgot to pay the Toll". Great energy & the Beats are off the hook.
I wish this version with Emma singing her little rap was available on CD!! I like it even more than the original. Everything about this song and video is great. I LOVE Emma's look she gives to Pete before she takes the microphone, Pete's "Joe Jackson personna"(complete with coat), how he seems to check out his daughters rear end when walking behind her, the overall energy of the band and, of course, the song!!!
I realy love this song! I heared it, when my dad was hearing his old disks in the evening. Pete is a very good singer (i didn't know before... i just knew, that he was very good in playing guitar)
OMG! I haven't heard this in... wait, wait I'm thinkin'...............forever. Awesome little gem I've forgotten was out, there. Very cool Maxx. Thx for the post.
+sluggo5 Yeah ,your right. It takes the whole band ,and they are bad ass! Love this track.Rock and Roll brother, ROCK and Roll! Damn miss the good ole days.
+David Atwell My 11th-grade biology teacher used to have a sign posted in the classroom that just said "FACE THE FACE," lol. He would sometimes get out his accordion and play Who songs on it.
+sluggo5 Actually sounds kinda cool man! hell I grew up in the 60's and 70's when Rock and Roll was still considered "the devils music" .So that does sound pretty cool! !
I remember when this song debuted on AT40 in December, 1985-host Casey Kasem said, "and yes, that's exactly how the song ends". (Referring to the abrupt cut at the very end.)
Awesome GS1! Thanks a lot for the info. I never thought of Eminence Front as jazzy, but now that you mention it, I can see (hear?) that. And you're right, it's NEVER too late for The Who (the world's greatest rock and roll band, in my humble but learned opinion! ;-)
I love that big band sound! It's too bad we can't have more of it. But I gotta say, Martina McBride did good by bringing the horn section along on her last tour. We just need more of it.
really a song from the past there are not a lot of people who can and dare to stand face to face a lot is done from behind the computer. a shame that he didn't made more of this kind of songs
It's Peter Hope-Evans from Medicine Head. He's featured on Pete Townshend's Deep End: The Brixton, England Concert which, sadly, is not (yet) available on DVD.
Like a lot of us, I really do wonder where this kind of spectacular music and talent went. Is the world just becoming too dark a place to continue the journey?
Uber cool! That kid is getting head start! Nothing to do with Pete Townshend per se- but a papadeuex that shares his passion with a 3 year old.. the kid will excel.
Peter Hope Evans on harmonica. Simon Phillips on drums. The whole band is top notch so don't think some average group of people were able to throw this together. (Not that I know anything)
For over 30 years I didn't know that was Pete Townshend's daughter. Beautiful. Can you like a song but also think it's a big wank to have so many people on it? How did he pay all of them? Where are they now? Is the harmonica player still as cool? Are the two girl backing singers grandmothers on pensions now? Feel sad suddenly

Here it is 2024 and it’s still better than a lot of songs out today.
Love their harmonica player....a lot of soul and energy.
I'm 15 and I love this song. It's like my morning prayer.
Its a good wakeup songs that you really don't have to explain to them when they get older. So many songs have too many double meanings. This is on of the clean songs that kids can listen too.
This will always be one of the best dance tracks of all time . Impossible not to get up and dance around your loungeroom
grew up with The Who in the 60's. They were always there at the edge led by Pete. Blew my mind to hear this the first time. The guy just keeps amazing.
esto es musiica de los 80 , eran de lo mejor ,hoy ya no se escuchan este genero musical.
Yes I saw this song on tv years ago, I saw Pete Townshend but never knew the song. Its great. So much energy.
Fucking good! It only takes one Pete's song to put all these 'modern' rockers to shame. Long Live Rock!
One of the best wakeup songs ever written! My 3 year old grandson and I rock out to this on the way to daycare every morning!
Funny to think I've been listening to this song for 30 years whenever I need a boost of energy.
This is the best rendition in my opinion.
His daughter, Emma looked so cool in this vid. Great hair and outfit!
My hubby and I bonded over this song when we were dating. It's "our song!"
We danced to it SO many times,
Great video!
Really fun. It's an homage to his dad who played clarinet in a Big Band during WW11 and was a well known musician in his day as well.
it's only your song if you have done it to this song.
A song filled with energy, pizzazzz, flair, pure electricity...if you can't feel it you ain't got nothin' inside. Always loved song, I play the harp and I gotta tell ya it all comes together with that harp, the horns, the bass, pure energy, you just have to tap you feet & move.

AN UNFORGETTABLE MIAMI VICE SONG !
FACE THE FACE - PETE TOWNSHEND
John923T I agree with your whole statement. If this song doesn't make you bounce nothing will.
Great song, this really gets you going, this song has everything Horns, kicking Bass, Peter H. Third best Jazz song Peter has written.

What a great song to experience LIVE
I wish this version with Emma singing her little rap was available on CD!! I like it even more than the original. Everything about this song and video is great. I realy love this song! I heared it, when my dad was hearing his old disks in the evening. Pete is a very good singer (i didn't know before... i just knew, that he was very good in playing guitar)
That harmonica is gorgeous, actually played by Peter Hope-Evans, a gent about 30 years older than the young guy on stage here. Great song !

+sluggo5 Yeah ,your right. It takes the whole band ,and they are bad ass! Love this track.Rock and Roll brother, ROCK and Roll! Damn miss the good ole days.

Those two back up singers are awesome!
I remember I bought this cassette at a music store in NYC on our eighth grade class trip.
Wonderful, muy bien, parfait!
I remember when this song debuted on AT40 in December, 1985-host Casey Kasem said, "and yes, that's exactly how the song ends". (Referring to the abrupt cut at the very end.)
I never get tired of that brass section.....!
Awesome GS1! Thanks a lot for the info. I never thought of Eminence Front as jazzy, but now that you mention it, I can see (hear?) that. And you're right, it's NEVER too late for The Who (the world's greatest rock and roll band, in my humble but learned opinion! ;-)

Pete is the KING OF CONCEPT.
Miami Vice and Crockett at the shooting range brought me here! That great scene...
These types of vidoes on utube really would boost the very premise MTV was founded on.
