@ Bealz@Eye, I never knew she was relative of he. MTV in the state heavily rotated this vid on program back when video first was released.Mtv did a very good job in spotlighting artists in music whom on radio hadn't received deserved exposure.
Is it just me or is EVERYONE in this video having the time of their lives? Man, what fun....please bring this music back. The Beatles said it well "Fun us the one thing that money can't buy"
Absolutely one of Pete Townsend's masterpieces during his tenuous solo career. EVERY instrument in-tune, insynch, perfectly balanced with vocals, percussions, horns and strings. Magnificent!
I liked this from the day I first saw it and it still does it for me today. Great stuff by Pete, slightly unexpected coming from him, but nevertheless.
redwoods9999!!!! Thanks for posting this Townshend original. Although the sound isn't quite as good as later copies, It Doesn't Matter. This is a group of great musicians playing their hearts out. Pete's voice is a little more energetic and all the pieces that make this song fitting into a near perfect package.
Already mentioned but the woman singing at the beginning is Emma, Pete's daughter. Got her looks from her lovely mother, Karen. If memory serves, he pulled Emma out of the audience, to satirize Springsteen. Worth mentioning that both of Pete's parents performed in big bands so he grew up hearing that music and got into rock when he saw the film 'Rock Around The Clock' many times. This song and the others written for 'Deep End' are a natural marriage of the two influences.
THis was an AWESOME Song I use to watch this Video on America's Top 10 w/Casey Kasem, New York HOT Tracks and Night Tracks on SuperStation WTBS (Now TBS) God Bless Pete Townsend Now THIS is Old School unlike some of the music that we got going on now, especially all that Gangsta Rap that these Young Adults and Teens would ratehr hear.
A lot of people confuse innovation with genius. I'd give hendrix a 10 out of 10 for innovation for his time and his style is still influential today but as a guitarist, he can't compare to many that have come after him. That doesn't mean his influence is overrated, it just means that as a guitarist compared to many that followed, he was limited. He deserves to be in the top 100 just not number 1.
I'm recalling David Gilmour with an actual solo on this song, called out by Townshend. I see him in another, live version, but just tossing in a few power chords. did I dream this?
That is Pete's daughter singing and dancing with him. Listen to that bass line and tell me this man is not a "top of the rock artist list". So many great albums. But try this. Listen to Baba O'Reily with headphones on. Really listen. Your ears and brain will thank you
May 22, 2020 and I'm STILL listening to this incredible song and Pete. W O W The horns here are fkn jammin'!

If I'm not mistaken, it's his daughter, Aminta.
Great swing jazz tune from Pete. His father was a sax player in a big band jazz group as well. Nice jazz!
True "ass shaker." The first time I heard this tune I thought..."wow...what a classic."

What's happened to the video? The beginning isn't there. It starts in the middle of the video.
Luv this classic bit of footage... Pete's body-english is so cool.
And the guy that blows harp... Does anyone know who he is??
cheers
Peter Hope-Evans, I believe.
I think it was made to be sealed in concrete and never heard again...
Pete Twonshend sounds just like Bruce WIllis if he could sing he would sound like this.
Them black gals
Are the background singers
This and "Secondhand Love" were probably the only really bearable parts about the "White City" video this came from.
buenazooooo
Good song - might the performance been fueled by better living through chemistry?
@plotchickens....... Where's your video?
hahaha!
Uh, Jimi didn't burn his guitar at Woodstock; he did it at Monterey Pop.
Who is the Young lady that sings at the beginning?
- The Klingon Music Lover
his daughter Emma
harps rule
Que recuerdos con esta canción bailar y bailar con angelica
What?! Pete Townsend couldn't do a tune like this with The Who? I wonder why. Oh well...
This is a kick-ass record. But he really does sound better with The Who!!
What happened to the beginning? It's a mess now.
Is this female his daughter? I heard it was, but not sure.
It's Sheena Easton
Jerry Taylor Nope. That’s ET! Emma Townshend!
Why does everyone act surprised when the harmonica player comes up? Was he not supposed to be there?
I believe it's for effect (?) Somehow methinks its
something PT would come up with...
cheers
Who is responsible for this?
That's his daughter?
It's Sheena Easton
Jerry Taylor no
Yes. It's his daughter Emma. She has an album called Winterland.
Who's the mental patient singing before Pete?
