I've told my mom that I won't this for my funeral song and she understands.ive struggled with alcoholism for years ,and these words "pebbles on a beach, kicked around displaced by feet, like broken stones we're all trying to get home" somes my life up . We all deal with life differently. X
A thought for you. This song any song at a funeral is all about the mourners, those in grief who will need support comfort, man, just to get thru the day. Not about the deceased, at least not entirely. Your mum will be there. You won't. The song may well sum up your life. But does it say that your mum loved you? That you loved her back. That even your alcoholism and premature death could not break the love inside you that was her gift. That you are sorry. You say your mum understands - if she does then all my words are wasted. I know this is a trerrible intrusion in your privacy. But you see I had a mum too. All she wanted from me is that I would be happy. This I could never give her. I was a sad and solitary boy and though I improved I never fully recovered. "like a loser's reach . . . too slow and short to hit the peaks . . . So lost and alone . . . . trying to get home". I get it. Mum passed. At her funeral she had three songs. One for each of her children. A last act of love. Now I'm plannning my own funeral and sticking to my own rule I'm trying to choose music that will help my friends, most of whom never came to see me in the last ten years while i've beeen ill and getting slowly worse. TThouggh once we werre the M usketeers -- all for one etc. My hands are shaking froom the Parkijnson's Disease now so that will have to do No offfence meant. just an alarm..
The 70’s , wow , it had everything music lovers could wish for ! Classic rock from the likes of deep purple and led zeppelin moving on to classic songs like this from exile to disco chic, Odessay , earth wind and fire etc then onto punk and new wave with the damned , pistols , Buzzcocks , STRANGLERS and SLF . WHAT AN ERA OF BRILLIANT MUSIC
Ah the 'underrated' fetish in full flight with the very first comment. Truly a fascinating youtube comments section psychosis. I wonder what drives this psychologically...

May God bless n help you all. & if you are struggling with life talk to me me ?! Share your burden x
Paul's dad and Rick Parfitts dad were best mates back in the day, also Paul was going to give up music because his amp broke but Rick Parfitt talked him out of it and leant him an amp, Paul did the gig and the rest......is history.
Paul Weller loves what he does, you hear IT in everything has writes, all that passion, always been amazing, one of the best singer songwriters ever,i don't know of anybody who dislikes their music 🎵🎵🎶🎶 thanks 👍👍👍
I loved the Jam way back in the day, but when punk faded, I lost track of Paul Weller. Listening my way through his considerable catalog now and I'm blown away! Every album is brilliant & a fresh discovery. It's like meeting a long lost friend and picking up where we left off.
Sadly a lot of the political undertones in some of the songs, way back from the start to the present, are still relevant. Another thing that hasn't changed is that I can't draw my eyes away from Paul Weller.
Good band, but his first band was The Jam. One of the best British bands of all time. Weller's always been a great songwriter and satirical lyricist. I got into the Jam in my early teens as i was obsessed with Adam and the Ants (i was 8!) when The Jam were at their peak!!. A Town Called Malice, Bitterest Pill, Beat Surrender, Start, That's Entertainment, News Of The World, Going Underground, Eton Rifles, Down at the Tube Station at Midnight.. etc. They were banging out hit after hit in the late 70's and 80's. I liked some of The Style Council's albums (cafe bleu) but i found it a bit magnolia tbh. When he came back as a solo artist i loved his second album 'Wild Wood'. You could hear all of the artists and bands who influenced him, especially The Beatles. The 'Modfather' is naturally cool as f*ck, he was worshipped like a deity by the 'Britpop' crowd. He's also held in high esteem by his peers. This might just be me turning into my Dad but we need more kids to form bands, buy a guitar instead of COD!!. Music can be an escape route for the talented & hungry . Most great bands, especially in the UK, used to come from working-class backgrounds where it was leave school at 16 and go work in the factory down the road. I now see far more kids from comfortably middle-class backgrounds. We need an organic new movement of young musicians who challenge the corporate machine that is the music business. And it needs to be a universal entity or you just end up with ethnic gatekeeping. The last 25 years have been appallingly bland, vacuous R&B, Talent Show winners, old bands reforming (i saw Oasis in 94, 96 & 98, i don't need to see them in their mid 50's, 'nostalgia porn' to help Noel pay for his divorce and Liam shred his vocal cords that have deteriorated massively in the last 20 years). Taylor Swift is the most successful artist of the current era and hats off to her, she's a musician, a songwriter & a very savvy businesswoman. But will her music still be played in 50 years time??. It's easy to stick the boot into the likes of Coldplay but they're just filling a void. We don't need anymore Ed Sheerin & Adele if ordered from Wish!!. Two things we could do is to bring back a primetime music show & make the charts a big deal again. 30 years ago most people knew what was currently No.1. Artists can now use social media as a way of getting into the charts without being currently signed to a label. I was at Spike Island for the Roses, i was at the front getting battered at Reading watching Nirvana. Regular trips across the Pennines for a night at The Hacienda or Cream. I didn't have a clue at the time that these were gigs that would go into music folklore. My daughter's 27 and she (and most of her mates) are listening to The Beatles, Bowie, Joy Division, The Smiths, Depeche Mode, Kate Bush etc. The same music i was brought up to!!. There are new artists out there who they like, but there is no MOVEMENT. Those megastar artists & bands will always have an impact but there needs to be a new coming together of art, music, politics & fashion. A scene that is predominantly aimed at 15-25 year-olds. What will the noughties & the 'teenies' (?) be remembered for???. My parents were lucky enough to be in their early teens in the 60's & i was lucky enough to be 16-25 from 1989 to 1997. Every genre thrived but there would be a predominant scene, like 'Madchester' or the warehouse race scene. All these things came together WITHOUT the phones that we are virtually surgically attached to!!. This needs to happen before AI (which will either destroy us or enslave us, a cultural black hole that will devour everything) allows us to hear a favourite song by one artist performed by another artist (alive or dead!) with a couple of clicks. It's already here, you can listen to Noel Gallagher's HFB with Liam doing the vocals. I actually heard someone say they preferred Liam's version of 'The Dying Of The Light'. There is no Liam's version, it's just AI. We're very close to hearing "Alexa, play Pink Floyd's Dark Side Of The Moon' performed by The Beatles!! 😖 It's DEPRESSING. I want my grandkids to have what I did, although with the pricing of tickets you have a large % of young people who can't afford to see their favourite band or watch their local football club. But that's a whole new subject. Technology should be there to EXPAND, e.g the use of VR to experience a simulation of walking on the moon. But it's making our world smaller, many of us now live & work solitarily. Human interaction is reducing. I've seen people treat others in public like they're swiping left!!. We don't need a Great Reset conspiracy, we're self-isolating through choice. The Prodigy's brilliant second album 'Music for The Jilted Generation' was prophetic, but compared to now we were free in the early-mid 90's & chose to go OUT, meet new people, embrace new experiences and new music. Now we have a generation who would be incredibly vulnerable and psychologically damaged without the security of having everything delivered and 90% of their social interaction taking place remotely. I'm Gen X (born 1972) & it depresses me to see Gen X's act like the Boomers & not realise why so many young people are suffering with their mental health and their identity. These were things that we learnt subconsciously through social osmosis. The Boomers are the worst, they lived in incredibly exciting times and also got most things for Free. But they sit on their judgemental high horses instead of realising how lucky they were. And as i said, sadly many Gen X either unconsciously or intentionally just call anything that doesn't fit into a box, 'woke'. If a new movement does form with new music & new tastes it'll be called 'woke' by w*nkers who read The Daily Hate Mail or The Scum. So many people need to look in the mirror & realise they're becoming what they once rebelled at. It's a fact that the 'Golden Generation' (the ones who did serve in WWII) were actually LESS racist & more liberal-minded than their offspring. Fiscally conservative yet socially liberal. They were also less religous. I guess fighting alongside different POC & seeing the barbarism committed by God fearing folk made you revaluate your belief system. My grandparents were small 'c' conservatives with a very much live & let live attitude. So if a new movement forms, you're on your own kids. Your great-grandparents would show an interest, form their own opinions. The Boomers & too many Gen X will probably think it's some form of Leninist, Marxist, Communist, Liberal, Satan Worshipping brainwashing. Mainly because they don't understand what any of those words mean. I shall end my TED talk at that point (p.s if your folks are like that and enjoy e.g gardening. Tell them that gardening is woke but give no reason as to why it is. Then say it's a bit gay. Give them a taste of their own BS!!. Better still, form a band and tell them through the medium of music!! 🎵🎶🎸🎤 Viva la musicale revolution. It WILL be televised!! 👊✌
THERE IS NO OTHER SINGER SONGWRITER THAN PAUL WELLER FROM THOSE EARLY DAYS TO NOW ❤️🥰😃 TRULY AMAZING 🥰 THANKS PAUL WELLER YOU MAKE MY DAY JUST HEARING YOUR UNIQUE VOICE ❤️🦋🌈
This song is the nuts. What a man and what a legend. It always make me think of my youth. It was a song we all sang when at the beach but there was not stones. Just loads of stoners and booze all around and a man with a guitar. Brilliant times so good. Some how I always think there is a darker side to this song, but never really figured it out. Still a great song all the same. Paul Weller is a legend
I was a regular and too remember the random guy with the guitar strapped on his back and chasing groups of women all over town playing to them as they walked by
Was fortunate enough to experience an absolutely incredible live performance of this in Belfast last week at the Ulster Hall with my 16 year old son - he's a big fan. First time ever seeing Paul Weller. Him and his band were absolutely amazing!! 👏 New Fan!
In my view one of the most influential artists of this era if not the most influential, many will relate to the outstanding and meaningfull lyrics,God like genius-Dave Baker.
Can never listen to this song again. Uncle's favorite song for many years and when he tragically passed away earlier this year this song was played as the coffin was carried in. R.I.P Great choice of song but hearing it now is bringing tears to my eyes.😥

Amazing song with so much soul ❤
Paul Weller is a legend.... You can't help yourself but feel good when you listen to this..
It's literally a song about not finding your home or place to exist. Although I love it - it is literally anything but a "feel good" tune LMAO?

Comments. A lot of jet n pain. Rip to all gone never forgotten.

I was a regular and too remember the random guy with the guitar strapped on his back and chasing groups of women all over town playing to them as they walked by
Genius ❤
Always think of my dad when I hear this song. just because I don't see you that often doesn't mean I don't think about you and wonder how you are ❤
Ur dad had good taste..repect from manchester..
Hope you've seen him.
Used to live right where the video is filmed!! Elmer beach
Was fortunate enough to experience an absolutely incredible live performance of this in Belfast last week at the Ulster Hall with my 16 year old son - he's a big fan. First time ever seeing Paul Weller. Him and his band were absolutely amazing!! 👏 New Fan!

Lol I was just thinking the same thinking this beat either jay z Kanye and Otis and rhiana with Paul McCartney
Otis would have murdered this track..........
Van Morrison as well
I love Paul but Otis is in a league of his own

Hello pretty
THE HARDEST WORKIN MAN IN ROCK N ROLL.
RIP Ali Fraser. Thanks for always looking out for me. Will miss your words of wisdom. Still trying to get off these swings and roundabouts ❤
This song is a a thing of beauty, Paul is a thing of beauty.
What a tune
Magnificent. What a canon of songs this genius has.
Takes me back to a better place in time ❤
Thanks England for give us so many many talents like Mr.Paul Weller.Love England, from the gastronomic capital of the world,Lima-Perou.
Amazing
Hello, how are you doing it's nice meeting you here.
He’s the most complete and talented musician I’ve ever heard. 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Thank u Paul. Nothing. More. To say
Great lyrics with sound music, what a pity no one makes music like this any more.
In America. That is. In Britain he is an icon. Anyone who turns down an OBE cant be bad he is still true to the punk ethos of the 70's!!
Cant get enough of this song, it just gets better with age 👍
Takes me straight back to hazy rooms in the mid 90s, great times
This guys a legend, north or south. And u lot east and west xx
We both listened to this few days later you were dead miss you ❤️
❤
The most influential artist of our times to many a band..The guys god in my eyes...X :)
Just the best song ever
xxx amaxung
My partner sent this to me❤❤❤
This is a goosebump tune.
For ever
One of Paul's heroes is on this track: Steve Winwood. Clavinet, Hammond organ and backing vocals.
Steve Winwood is a badass!
I wondered who was in the same class!
It should of been me
actually it’s mick talbot
Greatest song ever
In my view one of the most influential artists of this era if not the most influential, many will relate to the outstanding and meaningfull lyrics,God like genius-Dave Baker.
Just class pure class❤
Perfect song, the beginning of the track literally drops you into a relaxed mood
It does indeed ☺️
i love the start of this track , and the start of honky tonk woman by the stones 👍
Thinking of you 💞 lots of love Gareth xxxxxxxx
Beautiful song to make you feel like life is good. Music food for the soul.
A very good song and a reflective one at that.
My favorite tune of his is "Lazy Man". I especially like the line "...I don't have a plan, I'm a lazy man..." What a remarkable artist.
Love Paul Weller - underrated.
Can never listen to this song again. Uncle's favorite song for many years and when he tragically passed away earlier this year this song was played as the coffin was carried in. R.I.P Great choice of song but hearing it now is bringing tears to my eyes.😥
that's what it's all about remembering your uncle threw a song he loved. He would love you to remember him with this song. but a no where you are coming from a didn't listen to the drifters after my mum's passing, but when a player it now a feel she is with me. peace out.
Just at the exact same point myself. This is going to be the walk out for my dads funeral on Monday. (28th Jan) Beautiful song
