    I absolutely LOVE my shrinkage, every since God showed me that Shrinkage is a gift to us, one of our hair secrets:) LOVE your hair so much(goals) and have not cut/trimmed my hair since May. Thank you so much for showing us that we do not have to trim/cut our hair and it will Not fall out:) God bless you beautiful sister!

      Right, like I haven't trimmed my hair since November of last year, and I'm waiting til this November to trim the ends. I'm trying to do this once a year since I don't over manipulate my hair or put heat to it.

    My hair is waist length, 4a, 4b, maybe 4c in places. The one way I will fight shrinkage is to never, NEVER, let my roots get shrunken. Having my hair bunched up at the roots makes it impossible to detangle, so I always have my roots stretched. I could never sleep with loose hair that was not tied back. So, even though my hair is real, I'd never go in a pool without my hair tied back in a bun! I learned this the hard way!

    The fight is over for me. I have thrown in the towel shrinkage you WIN..that’s a battle I can’t win. My hair inspiration is Lorraine Toussaint (I love her big natural hair)…mine is neck length and thick so, it looks like a TWA on wash and humid days. But once I get it stretched out a little IT’S ON!! I go into the office 3 days a week and I wear my hair out. On the other days it’s braided and under a beautiful colorful head wrap. I’m not that good at braiding my hair no matter how many videos I watch. Nobody needs to see my braid work. I did the big chop during the pandemic. It has truly been a learning experience. I have learned so much about my hair that I never knew while wearing wigs and relaxers most of the time. I welcome the continued growth and I love taking care of my beautiful crown even when she gets on my last nerve sometimes when she don’t want to do right….I love the journey and I thank you for sharing some of your experiences. You are stunning and your crown shines bright for all to see. Continued blessings to you.❤

    The longer my hair gets, the tighter it gets. It sits on my shoulders in just about every style except a flatiron 😅. But it does allow my low density hair to appear nice and thick❤

      That's so interesting! I guess gravity has no impact on you either lol Totally agree that shrinkage brings on a look of extra density which is always appreciated!

    My friends and I call it the Frederick Douglass, with full respect and love. That's our hair's default setting. It seems to part and style itself into that style as the day goes on and I love it! I've also never slicked down my edges. I wouldn't even play myself like that. You ever had your hair roll her eyes at you?

    Shrinkage is just our hair being its normal self. When we call it shrinkage, we act like something weird happened. It's like saying that we're having a hard time keeping the brown out of our skin. It's kind of messed up how brainwashed we are by external standards of beauty (and I say "we", because I'm out here trying to keep my hair stretched too.). Saying words like "chia pet" just shoes the next step we need to take in this journey in his we refer to ourselves, even as devoted naturals.

    • @preciousfro
      @preciousfro  3 місяці тому +4

      I get what you're saying, but I also think it's okay to be lighthearted about things at times. Calling my hair a chia pet is a joke, It doesn't mean i hate my hair. Quite the opposite, and I think calling it "shrinkage" doesn't have a positive or negative connotation to me it's just a means of describing what our hair is doing. Thanks for watching!

    Shrinkage is a blessing for me because I have low to medium density 4A hair and it gives my hair the appearance of volume. My hair shrinkage is between 40% and 50% depending on the humidity. I have never laid my edges. As always, your hair is beautiful!

    Great video ❤ I'm with you. I've surrendered to many things, and my hair has been one of them. It feels so good, like i now know what works for my hair, but as far as fighting against the shrinkage, those days are gone. I love coming across ppl who assume our hair is super short, but the moment we pull at our coils, it stretches down our backs 😂

    • @preciousfro
      @preciousfro  3 місяці тому

      lol def. one of my favorite magic tricks to pull on those that don't know about our hair

  • @denyshadials5702

    For me, it was less of shrinkage winning and more so water winning. It’s always been 10x’s easier to manipulate my hair with some amount of water, as opposed to being dry and stretched. Shrinkage just so happens to come with water, so 🤷🏽‍♀️.
    Now as far as the ‘look’ of shrinkage, the ‘globe’, it was never an issue for me as a Texas girl. The ingredients of Texas pageant girl are sugar, spice, and big hair. So the volume that comes with shrinkage was more than welcome. As long as my hair is, it’s hot under here, so short styles are welcome as well. I came to appreciate all of my other features after big chopping and will rock a short style in a heartbeat.

    • @TeaMZ101
      @TeaMZ101 2 місяці тому +1

      @@jellybite1 it depends on the style you're going for. If it's just to do an undefined afro type of style, I would suggest putting the hair in 4 to maybe 6 large twists depending on the hair density to let it dry. Make sure the twists are lose unless you are going for a tighter twist out style. Putting the hair in twists gives if form so as it dries and shrinks up, the individual strands don't wrap around each other as they shrink causing single strand knots which can lead to breakage. Using a microfiber towel or blowdryer to soak up/dry the excess water will all aid in this process as well. I hope that helps there are other options but this is one of my go tos.

    THAT PART! had an absolutely miserable time trying to keep my hair stretched during my first natural hair journey. ended up cutting my hair because it drove me crazy. i have such a fun time now just embracing and loving my shrinkage. i love a good round bonnet shaped fro. perfection. even when i blow dry my hair i end up wetting it to shape it better. I LOVE MY SHRINKAGE

    Shrinkage causes tangles. I detangle with wide tooth comb. I start from the end and work my back to the root. Then I can oil my scalp and braid my hair. I only remove braids when I'm going out. Then it's full on short afro! 🎉

    Great video and I agree, love the versatility of our hair but am wary of the tangles and breakage that come with wearing the hair out for longer periods. I also feel the same when it comes to representation (especially since I'm darker-skinned) particularly when I visit my grandma. That's when the cutest dresses and hair comes out XD I don't use any edge controls, let the scarf do all the work :)

    Hi Precious, how interesting, I have also just completely accepted shrinkage and it marvels me how our hair defies gravity. What works for me is to do 2 weeks in twists and another 2 weeks in twist outs( a tip I got from you. Thanks 😁) that way there is less tangling. I just brush my edges with my finger tips.

    While I mostly wear a WnG I've never slicked down my edges. I let my hair shrink as much as it wants and have never stretched my WnG. Currently, my hair is TBL and my WnG is past APL, but not fully BSL. I'm okay with that because due to a scalp condition I need to shampoo twice a week so there is no point in doing any styling that is designed to last for a week or more.

    "Shrinkage" another term for there's something WRONG with the way the Creator designed hair for ppl who originated in warm/hot climates. Even though it was designed to insulate my head in cool and hot weather. Will these ever end?

    Has anyone tried the African threading method long term? Does that cause stretch damage after a while?

    • @rosam674
      @rosam674 3 місяці тому +1

      The only damage you can get from African threading is if you tie the roots too tight. Other than that, the strands are safely stretched out and revert right back. In fact, they revert faster than heat-stretched styles.
