Courage is the ability to face danger, fear or changes with confidence and bravery.
The Bear represents courage because of strength and natural ability to overcome challenges. A mother bear, for example, will stand against a much larger, stronger male bear or other threat to protect her cubs.
Just as the Bear hibernates during the winter and reawakens each spring, we too, need rest and rejuvenation. The Bear shows us how to live a balanced life, where there is a time to be playful and a time to be assertive and courageous.
Native people believe that the Bear calls them to awaken the potential within themselves and to stand up for what they believe in.
Seven Sacred Grandfather Teachings
The teachings originate from the legends of the Mohawk and represent the traditional concepts of respect and sharing that form the foundation of the Aboriginal way of life. Each teaching honors one of the basic virtues intrinsic to a full and healthy life and is embodied by an animal to underscore how man's decisions manifest on the physical plain. We use these teachings as a foundation to promote a healthy lifestyle where we are in harmony with nature, our family, and our community.

This is awesome, thank you for sharing this. Some years ago I was visiting my mother in the US and the guys, Dad & I went fishing for a couple days. On the last afternoon this huge bear plods down to our lake and drinks, it’s roughly 15-18ft away and I see it and carry on fishing. Had 0 idea these bears were wild..thought they were used to people so basically didn’t mind it. It comes a bit closer then huffs and wanders off. I turn around to see the guys gone in the tree line and Dad looked like a ghost. I almost crapped myself when he said they ain’t tame bears. One heck of a time and have some awesome memories and photos to remember it by. Lost my uncle, aunt due to covid and decided to stay here. These songs bring it all back.
