wanna inform the viewers on here that this lullaby is still being sung for our swedish children at night. I grew up hearing my mom sing it and now I sing it to my son. she truly capture the magic.
My grandmother always sang this lullaby to me and my sister at the night. She died a few months ago and whenever i sing this it is like a tribute to her
This was the first thing I played for my daughter the day she was born.....she passed away on September 1st 2021 at less than 4 months.....this song always calmed her at night before bed....it will always live on in my heart with her.
My mother used to sing this song for me as a child. Now I got 4 children of my own and kind of forgotten about how much I used to love when she sang for me. Tomorrow I’m singing this for my children, making it a part of their childhood. Beautiful version Jonna!
Such a beautiful song and I really felt as if I was in the forest. I love walking in the forest and I often see tracks of our furry friends. Needless to say they are in my heart. Thank you very much for this lullaby.
@@tobbe447 It is true, it is not magical to go to work at low temperatures below zero just as it is not magic to go to work at high temperatures like those in the desert. In the comments we value the beauty of Nordic culture even though it is hard to live in a cold place.
I am a Swede and my mom used to sing this to me when I couldn’t sleep, I fell asleep quickly after that she sang it to me so this song has a warm home feeling to me and I feel safe.
So true. I wouldn't have been exposed to nearly half the cultures or world views that I have been if it weren't for the internet. 🇨🇦Greetings from Canada🇨🇦
Greetings to you in Brazil from all the way up here in Canada bud, I'm glad to see people from all over the world can come together to witness not only a sliver of history, but also a glimpse of what's to come in the future
I am so sad for you, and I know how hard it is, as I lost my brother and my mum 17 years ago within 3 weeks of each other. I hope the it wasn't tax related, as the majority of my friends, friends families or friends, either died straight after having them, or not long afterwards.. I don't mean to sound callous but this is the extremely sad reality. I again am very sorry to hear fo your loss..I know she is somewhere that is far better now. Much love and light your way..this song is so hauntingly beautiful, I listen to it regularly myself.💖
I live in a quite big city and I almost cried when I realized how long I haven’t seen stars on a night sky. Incredible song. I wish I lived in a place like this.
This is the reason why i never would lived in the city... nature is so much more beautiful then the city lights... especial the stars in the sky. You feel so tiny while you watching them....
This touched my heart. I am German but imaging a mother singing this song when her children fall asleep made me almost cry even though I did not understand a single word. My mom used to sing for me when I was younger and I kinda can't wait to do so for my own kids.
The translation is nice. The woman fears the wolf, in case it takes her child, but she respects it, she knows it has a right to live too, she does not want to see it starve, and gives it the pig tail. Beautiful.
@@bullluttttt welcome to nature. Stay out of the nordics if youre too thin skinned for the normal life and death circle. We have enough real snowflakes here :-)
I am of Nordic descent, and I want to thank you for this beautiful lullaby. I have always held a deep respect for the chants and songs of my ancestors, and this only deepens that respect.
This won't be from your ancestors. It's written by the children's author Astrid Lindgren for her book Ronja Rövardotter which was written in the 80's, so it's a fairly recent song.
Same- I have Nordic ancestors, and I’ve always truly loved their beautiful culture and music/lullabies. I have a room full of it lol. It makes me so sad... I just want to be in a country like Swede or anywhere that suits me like this.
My daughter's favorite bed time song. For many years she asked me every night to sing it for her. She is a teenager now and doesn't ask any more which makes me sometimes sad. Now you sing it for me. Thank you. By the way, I love all songs from this film 💕
awwh. Maybe your daughter will ask you some time again for you to sing it to her. :) I'm turning 30 this year and this daughter let her mother tuck her in not long ago, like she did so many times growing up.
Hi, my family is from Sri Lanka. One day, this song popped up while we were trying to feed lunch to my 8-month-old son. Something unexpected happened: my baby ate without a problem. I thought it was because of the wolf in the video, but I soon realized he liked the song. Not just wolves; every night before going to sleep, we play this song for him, and sometimes he falls asleep to it.
This is what I love about the internet and one of the few things that makes it feel worth it despite all the harm it causes. Someone from Sri Lanka would have NEVER heard a lullaby from northern Sweden before. I think its beautiful how we can connect from so far away now.
Im Norwegian. My grandma used to sing it. Loved it and still do. Ive heard a wolf howl. If people would slow down we could learn from a wolf pack. Odin
I'm going to try and re-immigrate back to Norway after my family left there in 1630. Sure, America has been great for so many generations but I want to go home and I'm sure I'll make friends but miss my family in America.
@@Lunar_or_M1randaJonna (the lady in the video) is speaking Swedish. Yes the Nordic languages are different, but are for the most part, intelligible (meaning the speakers of these languages can understand each other to some degree), however Icelandic (which comes from the same language family branch) is not mutually intelligible due to Iceland being isolated for centuries, and preserving many grammatical features from Old Norse (the viking language) that the other Nordic languages have lost.

yall i lost my mom a couple years ago and ever since i’ve been searching for this song. it’s kinda crazy that four years later i can still hear her voice whenever i listen to it.
This was the last song I played to my Mother as She lay dying. I don't know if She could hear it but I hope it brought her some peace. See you soon Mum.
There are some studies that even with lack of consciousness, a person can still hear and recognize sounds at his surroundings, there is a story of a medic that described one of the most beautiful experiences on field, a patient in bad shape, being transported in ambulance, pulse was fast, patient shaking and sweating, but a paramedic grabbed the hand of the patient and told him, “don’t worry, you are not alone, we are with you” then the pulse got stable, and he stoped shaking and sweating. So I’m very sure, your mother heard the song, may her soul Rest In Peace. So sorry for your loss
Translated lyrics: The wolf is howling in the woods of the night He want’s to, but cannot sleep Hunger is tearing his wolven belly And in his lair it’s oh so cold Oh wolf, oh wolf, do not come near You’ll never get hold of my child Oh wolf, oh wolf, do not come near You’ll never get hold of my child... The wolf is howling in the night’s woods, is howling, by hunger and sorrow But I shall give him, the tail of a pig Because such fits, in the belly of wolves Oh wolf, oh wolf, do not come near You’ll never get hold of my child Oh wolf, oh wolf, do not come near You’ll never get hold of my child... //And this repeats a second time :) By the way! I shall mention that this song was sang at my little brothers baptism! So already there it has a special place for me ^^ ----------------- To all the people complaining that there are already subtitles: Yeah I know, but they are very “literal” and well, sounds unnatural. I fixed the placing of the words and grammar a bit to make the English version easier and more pleasant to read. The meaning of the lyrics are still the same, just modified a little from Swedish to English grammar. If you don’t trust me or don’t like my comment/translated lyric, then be my guest and use the robotic Google Translate or the rusty subtitles. 😂
The Nordic music, life, language and everything even without understanding it would pull you towards itself It's kind of calm and soothing and makes you feel like you are in a fairytale world enjoying every moment of your life
As a Swede, my take on this song is that of a strong, fearless, protective but humble Viking mother and woman. She sternly tells the hungry wolf to not come closer, and fiercely states that the hungry wolf will never ever be able to take her child (ungen min får du aldrig). But she also understands the animal is cold and sleepless and tosses him a pigs tail as a gesture of good will. Very reminiscent of Swedish culture with powerful and strong women, and a society that is small and might fear other countries and cultures, but humble enough to not act aggressively and instead lead with an understanding. Also, this song originates from the movie Ronja Rövardotter, whose Viking mother is portrayed as a strong, sensitive, smart and understanding woman while her brute husband only sulks, and acts in an immature manner. (Edited to keep this from being a man vs woman argument)
I was pregnant and about to give birth to my son when I found this cover... I fell in love instantly and added it to his lullaby list. I've been singing it to him ever since. He's 2 years and 2 months old now. 42 million views! I can see we're not alone. :)

Flesh and bloods of the Magnificient Stars, Generator of Matters. We are merely Stars dust.... and we shall one day, in our eternity, return to the Stars. Hereby, knows that your siblings, the Stars are there.
Reason 85% of the earth can not see the winterway and all its stars are due to lightning from cities and towns. Most of the lights from sources are going upwards. There are solution to this where the equipment block lights from going up, but there is a reason they dont want us humans to see the clear sky. I just wish the entire humanity would wake up soon and realize we are nothing but slaves. A few people controll this world, we the many could make this a paradise. But fear is what is stopping you all. Only thing to do is to kill all the leaders, and the police that will protect them. I know its sad but there are no other way. It will just get worse.
I played this to my little nephew at nap time. He kept asking me what those lyrics meant. I told him that I didn't know because it's a different language than ours (Spanish), so I told him that you don't need to understand the lyrics to understand the feelings, you just have to close your eyes and flow with the rhythm. He loved it, and before the song ended, he fell asleep on my chest. Thank you so much for this Jonna, your voice does not only put kids to sleep, but also fades away my sorrows for a moment. And that's a wonderful gift.

As a Finnish person I was only able to understand some of the lyrics, but this soothes my Nordic soul and reminds of my home in the middle of forests - far away from cities and traffic. During winter after sunset, I often ride deeper into the woods on my snowmobile and make a campfire. There's something truly magical in that moment, just sitting there all alone in silence with my thoughts while being surrounded by kilometers of dark, snowy wilderness - watching the dancing flames of the campfire while sipping hot glogg in the freezing temperature. Also this slight excitement of being totally unaware of what could be lurking in the darkness behind the trees, watching me. Truly makes me long for winter.
As a Fin, you actually also have -slavic- (Edit: nomadic) roots interestingly enough. I edited the comment because it is highly anachronistic to call these roots slavic. The early settlers of Finland (a name which in this geopolitical timeframe would also be considered anachronistic), were nomadic in lifestyle. Indeed coming from what today is roughly Hungaria, but in no way connected to what today are considered 'slavic peoples' inhabiting said region.

Wolves have no idea how much we admire them. Iconic animals. Beautiful, strong, brave, wild at heart, powerful and tenacious to the limit. All the things humans crave to be.
We used to be like that. But then we became civilised. And im not saying that's in itself a bad thing. But we still have the wolf inside us from those days and it still craves for nature's freedom. Ours is a divided nature of wolf and man.

Keep playing music for him. I have a 4yo son with autism he loves music. I can tell it stimulates his mind and encourages him to sing along and imitate sounds .
One of the main characteristics of autism, I read today, is that you feel like a real outsider. This may be his genuine home from another life. I used to have a record of Nordic lullabyes and it soothed us all...brought us through the portal to the nearby world.

I can not believe my eyes. I swear when I first saw the video of a Turkic nationalist. I am Turkic and your music, instrument and wolf symbol in this video is also in Turkic culture. The back sounds and melodies in the video are exactly the same as Turkic culture. And here everyone wrote an article about wolves. I want to say that wolves are almost like gods in Turkic culture. The Turks speak of them as the children of the wolves. There are many epics called "Bozkurt" in Turks. There are thousands of proverbs about wolves. and the same words you wrote about these wolves are known as proverbs in Turks. When you say Turkic, don't just think about Anatolia or southeast Europe. The origin of the Turkic nation is now based on the steppes within the borders of Russia. Currently, there are 8 Autonomous Turkic republics within the borders of Russia. The real homeland of the Turks is from the Russian steppes and Mongolia. A professor said that this is Scandinavian culture, similar to Turkic culture. Please investigate, let me be very surprised, but I'm very confused. I swear that the Turkic version of this video is the same. and from the swords used by your ancestors to ancient religious beliefs and lifestyles, the same as the old Turkic culture. 🙂

True it is beautiful! Nature is captivating. But beautiful cannot hurt. It's in our minds. You can find the same peace or beyond wherever we're. It is always within us, there is no need to take it from somewhere else. Meditating on what peace means to you helps.
A heartbreaking prayer: you feel that they know the hunger of the wolf. Wolves are monogamous, they raise their children together and risk their lives every single moment of their existence in order to earn their right to live. Just like men once did. I am happy to hear it because whoever sings it offers an alternative: it offers pig tails, a symbolic gesture in the song but it is indeed an offer of respite. Thank you.

This won't be from your ancestors. It's written by the children's author Astrid Lindgren for her book Ronja Rövardotter which was written in the 80's, so it's a fairly recent song.

I thought it was because of the wolf in the video, but I soon realized he liked the song. Not just wolves; every night before going to sleep, we play this song for him, and sometimes he falls asleep to it.
Happy to hear that. Love to Sri Lanka from Sweden 🇸🇪

I’m an English speaker but I’m curious is she speaking Norwegian or Swedish? Because from what I know the Nordic languages are all different right?
@@Lunar_or_M1randaJonna (the lady in the video) is speaking Swedish. Yes the Nordic languages are different, but are for the most part, intelligible (meaning the speakers of these languages can understand each other to some degree), however Icelandic (which comes from the same language family branch) is not mutually intelligible due to Iceland being isolated for centuries, and preserving many grammatical features from Old Norse (the viking language) that the other Nordic languages have lost.

Translated lyrics:
The wolf is howling in the woods of the night
He want’s to, but cannot sleep
Hunger is tearing his wolven belly
And in his lair it’s oh so cold
Oh wolf, oh wolf, do not come near
You’ll never get hold of my child
Oh wolf, oh wolf, do not come near
You’ll never get hold of my child...
The wolf is howling in the night’s woods,
is howling, by hunger and sorrow
But I shall give him, the tail of a pig
Because such fits, in the belly of wolves
Oh wolf, oh wolf, do not come near
You’ll never get hold of my child
Oh wolf, oh wolf, do not come near
You’ll never get hold of my child...
//And this repeats a second time :)

There are solution to this where the equipment block lights from going up, but there is a reason they dont want us humans to see the clear sky.

My little nephew was unofficially diagnosed with autism and its hard to calm him, but while searching for music for him I stumbled across this, thank you, he is calmed by it and absolutely loves it
Keep playing music for him.

Vargen ylar i nattens skog
(The wolf is howling in the forest of the night)
Han vill men kan inte sova
(He wants to, but cannot sleep)
Hungern river i hans varga buk
(The hunger tears his wolven stomach)
Och det är kallt i hans stova
(And it's cold in his burrow)
Du varg du varg, kom inte hit
(Wolf, wolf, don't you come here)
Ungen min får du aldrig
(I will never let you take my child)
Vargen ylar i nattens skog
(The wolf is howling in the forest of the night)
Ylar av hunger o klagar
(Howling out of hunger and moaning)
Men jag ska ge'n en grisa svans
(But I will give him a pig tail)
Sånt passar i varga magar
(Which suits a wolven stomach)
Du varg du varg, kom inte hit
(Wolf, wolf, don't you come here)
Ungen min får du aldrig
(I will never let you taken my child)

The words in English are
The Wolf is howling in the forest of the night.
He wants to but cannot sleep.
Hunger tears at his wolven stomach.
And it’s cold in his burrow.
Wolf, wolf don’t you come here.
I will never let you take my child.
Wolf, wolf don’t you come here.
I will never let you take my child.
The Wolf is howling in the forest of the night.
Howling out of hunger and moaning.
But I will give him a pig tail.
Which suits a wolven stomach.
Wolf, wolf don’t you come here.
I will never let you take my child.
Wolf, wolf don’t you come here.
I will never let you take my child.
The Wolf is howling in the forest of the night.
He wants to but cannot sleep.
Hunger tears at his wolven stomach.
And it’s cold in his burrow.
Wolf, wolf don’t you come here.
I will never let you take my child.
Wolf, wolf don’t you come here.
I will never let you take my child.

My daughter is 4, we listen to this every night in bed.. She loves it, i love it... She sleeps peacefully.. thank you so much jonna, love from Portugal

It's hurting me how absolutely beautiful this is. I'm not kidding. My soul is actually bleeding because I know I need that peace she's giving and I can't take it. This makes me want to cry, in a good way.
Thank you.
And this is exactly how coexistence works between nature and mankind. I wish we would find this deep understanding and respect again.
