I was fairly obsessed with FTL when it came out. Unlocked everything.
I love how tough the final boss is. Even when you get good at the game you can't take it for granted. It makes it a real accomplishment to beat it.
God, the nightmare... this is exactly how my first Engi run went against the rebel mothership. Ion stalemate.
Ion blast is great, but the H beam does the damage.
The H beam is like that cutting beam that the Borg had, where they just slice up your hull lol.

FTL is one of the games of all time! Everyone should play it!
I have a couple thousand hours in FTL so... this was kind of painful to watch lol. Still great content, always love watching people get into the game.
If you want a few tips, you should invest more in getting extra systems early ( mind control, hacking, teleporter, etc. ) taking on the flagship with only your starting systems is almost never going to work.
Your ship could definitely have beaten the flagship with a fully upgraded hacking module and a basic cloak. Systems can complement and even replace weapons and ship upgrades.
For example, a fully upgraded hacking module can completely disable even the flagship's shields. It would have paired extremely well with your halberd beam / ion blast combo.
The boarding drone would also have been a fantastic combo with a mind control system. You can completely disrupt even a large crew with that setup. This works great, because it lowers their chance to dodge, shield & weapon recharge time, etc.
Try using the stealth cruiser if you have it unlocked, it's a great ship for learning. The extra difficulty of not having a shield installed at the start will get your micro-management in better shape, and teach you the importance of picking the right system installs for the situation you find yourself in.

recently found your channel while looking for zomboid tips and learned alot about zomboid, kenshi and rimworld from your video's and so glad i found your channel!
i recommend gnomaria if you havent already played it and dwarf fortress, fun games, tons of chaos, lots of cheeese :)
likewise if you need a kenshi goal, kidnapping and holding every boss character is a real challenge and totally not crazy due to the armies that will come to you alot causing mass free for alls :)
the biggest thing holding you up the whole game was you couldn't bust through shields. If you were having a really tough time against anyone with 3 shields, the final boss with 4 is basically impossible with the setup you had. You should have added a laser, even a small one to kill their shields. Something that takes literally 1-2 power could have won you that fight I think.
With that hacking drone I wanted you to jump away so bad just to depower the thing and kill it immediately, then re-engage and put up another anti-drone. Really enjoyable playthrough though. I highly recommend trying an anti-personnel playthrough at some point with bio-beam/boarding teams if you really want a ton of resources. Not destroying the enemy ship usually gets you a lot more reward.

Save our Ship is quite good, but I highly recommend you also use the "minify everything" mod with it. Otherwise it is an incredible amount of deconstructing, reconstructing, moving, and retrofitting if you want to use any of the ship stuff you can find on the archeotech or mechaniod ships, which you can't build. And the anti-emtropic heatsinks are definately worth getting at nearly any price...

Hey, I wanted you to know that if you are ever offered a choice to surrender, the game is hard coded to give you more scrap if you decline and win the battle, but I usually get less fuel and other stuff. Keep that in mind to minmax your consumables!
FTL is one of the most underrated games ever.
And I can listen to the soundtrack all day.
I know this is a few months old, but I have been playing FTL since its release and I still open it up every few weeks (or more). So when using Ion, you don't have to switch it between shields and another system (like you were doing with weapons). Ion will always hit the shields when they come on. And with that weak ion you can't really stack ion damage to the shields. So basically, you don't need to swap, just leave it on weapons and it'll auto hit shields when they pop back up. (Unless the timing with the combat drone is JUST RIGHT so it hits the shields just before your ion lands.

With this ship I usually manage to get to the last sector with little difficulty and then get destroyed by the boss ship
The trick to FTL is that throughout your entire game you should be thinking about the different phases of the flagship and whether or not you have ways of dealing with them. You really can't brute force it unless you have a vulcan cannon or weapon pre-ignitor with really strong weapons. Even then It might out dps you just because of how much health it has.
One of my favourite things to do in FTL, was use one of the crystal ships with the aliens that don't need oxygen, and just run my ship with all the doors open all the time. It erradicated fires and boarding.
Then agian, my memory might be hazy. I do hope I'm thinking of FTL

I ended up reinstalling this awesome game, and I was misremembering. It wasn't the crystal guys, it was the Lanius cruiser. The Lanius drain O2 from rooms, so it was great fun using them as a boarding party as well. Just cripple their O2 system, then teleport your Lanius guys over to drain the ship quicker, whilst also stopping the enemy repairing their systems. Also, I know you won't read this, AA, because this video is 3 months old, and this comment will be buried - but I remember someone in your chat told you that clone bays suck and aren't worth it. Well ,my friend, if you're using a teleporter I'd highly recommend it. Nothign worse than having an A* boarding party killed because a rogue asteroid hit the enemy ship before you could teleport them back. Using it with a DNA-Replicator means you NEVER need to worry again, even if the enemy takes out the clone bay. Also, the stat loss upon death really isn't that bad. I'd rather they lose some stats, than be lost forever, y'know? Having a clone bay will also negate about 90% of the random events where you lose a crew member.
My favourite config is a clone bay with DNA-Replicator and a teleporter with... fuck, I forget the name, but it's an augment that fully heals crew upon teleportation. OP combo, especially in Multiverse mod

I've been wanting to try a build on FTL where you are Zoltan boarders, with a cloning bay. So you can just suicide bomb the enemy ships xD
That's a fantastic idea lol. It inspired another, slightly less cool idea. The same setup. Clone bay & teleporter. But this time with rock dudes paired with either a fire beam weapon or even better a fire bomb missile weapon. Can't remember it's proper name but it teleports fire bombs wherever you choose to target. So basically you choose a part of the enemy ship, set it on fire, then Tele in your rock boys to fuck shit up, and anyone who tries to stop them will get burned to death and clobbered by big ole rock cocks simultaneously AND this means that anyone who even tries to put out the fire will have to kill all of your rock dudes before they can even begin putting out the fire, which will cause the fire to spread unchallenged, doing wicked hull damage and knocking out systems. And as an additional bonus there's a good chance your rock bois will survive to clobber another day where Zoltan kamikaze soldiers is badass and has fucking style, the only downside is they'll pretty much be unable to retain any experience
But to be fair, the Zoltan build spares the ship, rewarding additional scrap, where the rock boi/fire method is more destructive, it, well..... destructives the ship lol

My best run for this ship: dual ion 2, burst 2, dual combat 2, defense 2, hull repair, drone recovery arm.

This was a good video to listen to as I got my first win in the game with the same ship. Triple attack drones, teleporting ion cannon and two hull lasers... and a lot of Mantis crew members for some reason
Don't be afraid to cut power to lifesupport, it takes a while for the O2 to drain, have been using this on a recent playthrough. Same for engines if dodging/escaping isn't useful

It's so nice to watch you play games you enjoy, I can tell that you're really having a chill time going through the steps of a profitable campaign. I used to play FTL all the time with my brother, we would take turns on runs, so this makes me a little nostalgic. I hope you get to play more games like this you enjoy, too. 😊

Engi is fun if you stack ion blast 2 and asphyxiate everyone on the enemy's ship. You get so much extra loot when you don't destroy the enemies.

This final boss scene is a clear indicator for games like this making the final bosses not even worth the effort. It's Darkest Dungeon all over again.

flak two is arguably the best gun for engi ships as it uses 3 power and fires 7 shots. its a good weapon regardless but with the engi ship having 3 weapon slots it needs a lot of high-level weapons.

Catchy and stupid title, it certainly it's not a rogue like, it's a rogueliite and most definitely not the "hardest roguelike"
Haven't done Nethack, but I've had a few decent streaks in Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup. I can also win ~80% of the time on hard in FTL if randoming ships. Those old school esque roguelikes are definitely harder. The median player in DCSS has never won, and IIRC having a winrate of like 10% already puts you in a very high percentile lol. Lots of hard games out there.
FTL is great though, and takes a lot of practice to get a good win rate on hard.

You really really need cloacking for the first phase of the boss. If you had it there you would be able to avoid getting hacked for 5 - 15 seconds. Enough time to fire a couple of times before getting hacked.
well, on hard mode your board drone can't be stuck in an enemy weapon because their rooms are conected
auto-fire doesn't get along with the charge weapons. you pretty much need to manually control those
I think you can counter an enemy hack with your own if you have the system, same with mind control.

Sorry to nick pick your game play, taken from a youtuber by the name of Lethalfrag who is quite legendary in FTL, almost always use your first 50 scrap on a 2nd shield. That'll keep you mostly safe until sector 4.
In the early game, even though you you have engi med dispersal (sell it quickly) not a good idea to waste a power bar in the med bay especially when none of your guys are taking any damage.
You can upgrade flight subsistems for more Dodge you know

That last battle was absolute horrible game balance. It is actually inexcusable. I personally blame the devs for that one.

what do you mean you can't shoot them while they are cloaked and you got a drone there. you can see your drones health which means you should be able to shoot at the drones signal regardless of the enemy ship going poof. so lame
Advanced mode is something great except hacking drones. They are not fun. Period.
I love all FTL with advanced mode but it seems hacking was not balanced at all.
