AA, please learn, sir. Enemy ships do *NOT* randomly jump away. It will either tell you in the opening encounter text, or in a text pop-up during the fight. It *ALSO* shows a text warning on the enemy section of the screen that their FTL is charging/charged. Too often you're targeting pilot or engines out of fear of them fleeing and end up taking unnecessary hits because you're not targeting weapons.
Targeting (and hitting) piloting system lowers and (if damaged) negates dodging chance, so it actually does make sense to shoot there first, and then shoot shields / weapons, so that those hits don't miss.
@@notanm6616 Taking down piloting/engines at the expense of damage from leaving shields and weapons online is not worthwhile. Also , AA often does it while trying to farm stats on his crew and ends up wasting a ton of missiles/drone components to stop a ship from "escaping". Pretty consistent across his runs.
This is the perfect game for long uploads. There's always something interesting happening, whether it's planning routes, making encounter choices or blowing up an enemy ship. I'd be super comfy with more FTL playthroughs.
I once won a run even though we got destroyed because the vulcan was autofiring at the flagship and the last two shots hit and destroyed the flagship, while we exploded. The lv3 cloak is actually bad because it takes too long to recharge. The best use is a 5s cloak during the flagship power surge to dodge all the missiles. "I'm gonna play this fight very slow" he says, and then panics for no reason and misses half of what's happening on screen
It's making me go absolutely nuts watching these streams when you don't target their weapons system. Still a lot of fun to watch, looking forward to more!
One thing I wish he'd note is that if you have a broken O2 system with a hole in the room, you can open the door to that room and allow the neighboring room's air to 'bleed' over and keep air the room you're working on for longer
There’s a really cool mod for this game. It’s called multiverse, it adds about 300% of content to the game and way more ships weapons and races etc. highly recommend if you like this game.
Ooh, I like this content. Something to fall asleep to... and that's a compliment. I put on like, Star Trek TNG episodes that I know and love, and only have the highest respect for. Stuff I fall asleep to is really good stuff, honestly. It's stuff that keeps my mind off of the world and on the entertainment itself even with my eyes closed. So when someone says something like this, it doesn't always mean boring. Sometimes it means QUALITY.
The Minecraft and Rimworld being the most well designed games statement made me think "But what about their root inspiration of dwarf fortress?" but after thinking about it Dwarf fortress should be honored for its great innovation, but that innovation comes at the drawback is that it's high aspirations make it difficult to "design". This is why the game unfortunately has a high learning curve and often lopsided difficulty for average players. But remember Losing is Fun!
God I've been grinding this game like mad trying specifically to get that stupid fuckin unidentified cruiser for the past few months. Dozens of runs and still no dice. I've been playing since like 2013 as well, never got it unlocked. Still love this game though
Hey there Froggy Boy. I just wanted to say how much I appreciate the videos you create. I find them very entertaining. I like the balance of gaming and philosophy; I like to think while I'm not thinking. Your efforts are much appreciated. Thanks Amphibian, I wish you a swarm of sumptuous flies.

I usually don’t watch these types of videos. To be honest, the games seem to bore me. Or perhaps I’ve never really taken the time to take interest in them. However, as I am writing this, it is 3 in the morning. The Lord has woken me up, and every time I try to go back to sleep, it is very restless. So, I’m not going to fight it. Perhaps he is saving me from something, or warning me. I have no idea. I’ve prayed, and continue to, but I also have the need to listen to someone’s voice. Someone who’s voice is somewhat soothing. Sort of charming, I guess. That brings me here. AA (I’m sure you all know who I am referring to, this awesome UA-camr), you, for some reason, out of all the UA-camrs I follow are the only one that has really managed to calm me, and for that, I thank you. And I do want to state that your videos do interest me, well, a select few, those specifically being your Project Zomboid VODS and such. So thank you for those. Perhaps God just woke and was like, yeah, let’s watch some AA, haha. Who knows. But thank you for your calming voice that seems to soothe me over when my heart is racing. Thank you.
0:25 "Hopefully we'll not have god awful RNG like we usually do". I have some bad news, captain. You are commanding the Bulwark; a ship that embodies "bad RNG" moreso than any other ship in FTL....and I hate it so much because of that. Why? Well, way back when FTL was still fairly new (late 2012), the Rock Cruiser was by far, the best option for unlocking the Crystal Cruiser for reasons I won't spoil. Doing the required quest is one of the most infamously RNG intensive challenges in all of classic vanilla FTL (before Advanced edition added a bunch of improvements; one of which being behind the scenes rigging of events so the Crystal Cruiser Quest was far more consistent and easier to do) There were no less than three major steps where the quest could fail for no other reason than bad luck. Oh but that's not all: The Bulkward ITSELF is another RNG nightmare, because it packs two missiles as its starting weapons. Missiles are by far the worst weapons in vanilla FTL, due to their low accuracy and painfully slow reload times. This makes every single fight in the early game heavily RNG dependent...in a game notorious for handing the player's ass to them for messing up. For that reason alone, you're praying for a better weapon early and often when playing the Bulwark (and miraculously, you get the very best option super early into your run here. That literally could not have gone any better.) Just to put all my kvetching into perspective: I played FTL for THREE STRAIGHT WEEKS (it took my entire Winter Break back in 2012) to unlock the Crystal Cruiser; doing literally nothing else in the game, playing several hours every single night. And every moment of each attempt itself was stressful solely due to the comically inaccurate weaponry compounding an already difficult game.
It’s fascinating to watch your thought processes when you need to multitask so much like this. Have you ever tried playing a bullet hell shooter or other shmup? I think you would do pretty well, once you got the controls down.

Ive been having this gaming deja vu were ill start playing a game and then next day i see is atleast one UA-camr im following make a video of that exact game, yesterday i played ftl with the multiverse mod and my god its grwat
Is scrap recovery arm the only augment that stacks? Usually when you obtain the same augment as the one you already have installed, the game gives you a pop-up that it will convert it into scrap instead.
Hull lasers are better than burst lasers, since they can breach the enemy ship. Suffocating the enemy gives you more scrap than just blowing up their ship. 🧠
Love your content , must though point out how infuriating it is the amount of times you do not target the enemy weapons first when you should to avoid damage. so many opertunities you have had to avoifd getting hit and you go all in on completely destroying the sheilds first before targeting weapons. you have missiles. also when sheilds are down and recharging you can target weapons freely
"I'm going to kill them, because they tricked us!" no, no they didn't trick you you just didn't read the request. Homie pls this game would be so much easier for you if you actually read through the prompts.
Vulcans are quite similar to Gatling Guns, in 1946, the Army issued General Electric a contract for "Project Vulcan", which resulted in the M61 Vulcan. Which is a hydraulically, electrically, or pneumatically driven, six-barrel, air-cooled, electrically fired Gatling-style rotary cannon which fires 20 mm × 102 mm (0.787 in × 4.016 in) rounds at an extremely high rate (typically 6,000 rounds per minute). This is was then miniaturized into the M134, which is what lead to the name Minigun, due to being a mini Vulcan that fires rifle caliber rounds.
There used to be a mod that lets you just play endlessly and the boss can be disabled if you want it to be. when I tried that it really made the game way more fun and less of a slog vs the OP boss fights. Again, spoiler in the title. Takes the fun out of watching the episode. I really don't see why I have to explain this to you, when there's several comments in the last FTL run you did explaining exactly this point. I'm not mad, just disappointed.
Damn, you whine so much in this game, it's not even funny: nothing critical happened EVER in this run in spite of the fact that many micromanagement mistakes took their places. And all these mistakes were made with permanent pause-buttoning... First your video, where I felt tilted at the end, cos for 1 second of real gameplay I heard 10-15 seconds of whining.
