Plenty of little corrections in the comments already. Always glad you are enjoying it, interesting seeing the connections as always and I can't wait for you to realize how some of your hopes actually come to pass in the story.
Oh man, some of your predictions are freakishly close. Others are so ironically wrong!! It's crazy impressive you're making connections that I didn't make until later books. It's so fun to listen to these, keep it up!! As a long time Cosmere fan it's really fun watching you slowly unravel how everything is connected. The things you're getting wrong are mostly plot points. But you're doing a really impressive job piecing together the lore.
Every other time I’ve been watching you react to books I’ve already read. This time you and I are reading together. I like your predictions so far! I start book 2 tomorrow. I can already tell this is going to be a re-readable series with lots of gems to unearth and plenty of tempestuous Sanderstorm reveals.
@@conorreads Probably not. Doing it as part of a book club with my family, so the pace is only 10k words/day, and these books are chonkers! Will probably start book 5 in late winter or in the spring. How about you?
Brandon has said before he doesn’t care how people pronounce the characters and that every reader can create their own cannon as they read, so don’t worry too much about what everyone says about pronunciation. Love the videos! Also your videos convinced me to read the first law trilogy and I absolutely loved it! Great work man!
Love the predictions! It's fun seeing someone else piecing things together. Don't feel bad about the Shen prediction, lol. I told my friend that I guessed this world was hell/some kind of messed up afterlife. I feel safe that I'm not spoiling anything by saying that I was incorrect lol
1. Szeth has the Black Sphere from Gavilar and also has his Oathstone. Whoever holds this Stone is Szeths master and szeth will follow his orders. But those are 2 different things. And no, szeth is no parshman, he is a human from shinnovar (to the west on the map) 2. your guesses with Rayse and the storms are really good, keep going. 3. To the topic of Kaladin beeing a deserter: his slavemaster sold him saying he is a deserter, but he said towards kaladin, that he knows it is a lie. So whatever happenee between the Cenn flashback and kaladins first chapter, kaladin was marked as a deserter and forced into slavery.
I just started my re-read of Stormlight before the first finale comes out in December. Found your channel and it is immensely entertaining to hear you do these predictions. I'll be reading alongside you, and I'd honestly love to see you go back and react to how storming right you are once you've finished the book.
Love watching people early in the SA journey talking about the characters that we love so much. I'm only about a year ahead of you, but it in that time I've read Brandon's entire back catalogue twice. Once you've caught up do reread. You pick up so much that way.
I'm loving how you're loving it. Minor point of clarification: the armies are harvesting chasmfiend *chrysalises*. They're not generally hunting mobile, fully grown, eff-you kaiju crabs.
I'm trying to talk around the spoilers here, but one of the things you said you hope will happen, is actually finally happening in the fifth book. Man this is a long series.
Man, why do I always get notifications like an hour later? Awesome video as always, always looking forward to your content :) a bit selfish too as I get to relive these moments ❤
These are always so fun to watch! I’m going to reiterate another persons comment: Pay attention to how the 3 people looking for Hoid, grump, blunt, thinker, are described and what their physical descriptions are. Some of them might seem familiar…
Roshar is basically an ocean ecology on land so the chasm fiends are sort of giant lobster thing. Any creature you don't immediately understand try thinking of them as a sea creature adapted to the land... Though with a bunch of fantasy thrown in too. When Kaladin was with the slaver that sold him to the bridge crews Kaladin noted that the slaver was aware of the 'real' reason that he was made a slave had nothing to do with desertion, the slaver agreed but was not going to get involved with the truth of the matter. Shallan is more of a larn or lahn than a lawn but is not really all that drawn out in either case, not usually as abrupt as rhyming with 'man' but that still works or lengthened slightly, but ultimately if you keep the emphasis on the second syllable instead of the first you're doing fine (not a rule for all characters anyway). Most other character name pronunciations won't matter to most so long as you have the main ones right. On the other hand the term when you go back on your word is 'reneging' not 'renegading' very similar but without the 'ad' Of the three characters looking for Hoid you have met one of them in another series but the other two are from stories/worlds you've not read yet. To be honest they were only recognized as 'foreigners' so easily due to the distinct speech quirks of one of the two you don't yet know so you can't be expected to recognize them so easily. last time I said one of your predictions was ironic due to events in the next book, this time I'll say that some of your predictions are kinda hilarious based solely on the latest preview chapter (released just last week) for book 5 being released this year... The stones that Tien presented Kal to cheer him up were just that - stones. To hold a charge of stormlight they would have to be _gemstones._ Yeah uh, Jasnah is definitely _not_ Elhokar's brother, sorry
Tien giving Kaladin rocks is nothing magical. Kaladin's depression gets easier to deal with around Tien, and one of the things that Tien loves is rocks.
I don’t think this is much to go on to make theories but the shards usually have something in common with the types of things you find on their worlds. Ruin has ash falling from the skies and volcanos everywhere etc. Same is true with roshar
Pay close attention to how Grump, Blunt and Thinker are described and what they say. Grump is particular has some very interesting dialogue right at the end of the chapter.
@@conorreads We know Hoid is a Worldhopper, doesn't seem unreasonable to suggest that we might have seen these three elsewhere under different names...
Currency isn't coins. They are actually gems encased in glass, called spheres. Gems getting infused with Stormlight and spheres getting infused with Stormlight are the same thing.
The recipient of the first letter is a being named Frost, I wouldn't consider this a spoiler as i don't believe we learn this at any point in the books.
Pronunciation of Shallan much closer to the audiobook than before, but it’s with the PALM vowel, not the THOUGHT vowel! I think sha-LARN should get you the right pronunciation
Oh no! Of course! "sha-LAWN" in a british accent is pronounced differently than in an american one! 😂 Honestly this one's on us, so just call her whatever you like at this point, lmao. You'll hear Brandon or someone say it at some point.
"Kaladin can absorb the energy in the same way Szeth can." Sort of. There's more there to keep digging into. There is a very important distinction there and it's related to Szeth's title as "Truthless".
Pronunciation hints are always difficult. How about this: Shallan like in Cha-La Head Cha-la, the classic Dragonball Z Opening. Basically just pronounce both "a" sounds the same.
I kinda doubt his accent can do Shallan to most people's standards. If he knows enough Phonetics knowledge, both syllables are unstressed, the first is a schwa.

How good is Abercrombie!? My favorite author to read for dialogue and poetic injustice

You love characters with dark history - you're at the right place. And you could speculate for Shallan's back storiest for 3 more books it's an onion.
