Thank you! You're the first person that brought attention to that. Yes, it was intentional. When you hear a synthetic sound (usuaally a bass drop), that is the indicator that stormlight is being used.
I was listening to that this part during the chapter where Kalidin ran at the parshendi in wearing their carapace, and It lined up perfectly, with the bridge runners in the back, the triumphant bits as he dodges arrows, and the unique, angered chants of the parshendi
"If you survive this day you'll be know as one of the greatest men of our generation." Dalinar released him, letting the High Prince stumble back. "Go to your men Aladar. Go lead them. Be a champion." Aladar stared at Dalinar, mouth gaping. Then he straightened. He slapped his arm to his chest, giving a salute as crisp as any Dalinar had ever seen. "It will be done, Brightlord!" Aladar barked to his attendants, then put his hand to his side sword and dashed away.
The only thing such epic fucking books such as The Stormlight Archive is missing is music. This gives me emotion beyond words. It gives me a kind of nostalgia for this story, which I haven't even finished. Kelek's breath this is awesome.
This is super incredible. If you're an audio junkie I do recommend considering the graphic audio as the way it adds music and multiple voice actors in really elevates the scenes for me
Thank you! It was actually composed by a fan who posted his take on Shallan's Lullaby on youtube. We were trying to find the right composer for the piece, and when Brandon boosted the song on twitter, and I heard it myself, I knew this was a good fit, even though he's not a profressional film composer (good music is good music). I contacted the composer and asked him if we could give his music the old Hollywood treatment. I'm grateful that Alex Crandell, the composer, said yes! (Sandra Schnieders, the composer who arranged the song, has worked with the likes of James Newton Howard and Danny Elfmann, and she brought the song to life beautifully.)
I am speechless about Assasin In White. The piece starts with Parshendi drumers and eventually it zooms out into a lacrimose but terrible piano Melody. The string section makes an excelent job at the crescendo, really gives you chills. The whole piece makes a stunning job on transmiting Szeth´s dispair and fierceness. Amazing!! Congrats!!
Three Glyphs is my favorite. Starts out with the horns calling the soldiers to battle, then goes to the heavy drums and chorus of Bridge 4 as they prepare Kaladin in his armor. Then, as they begin to run, the music trails off as the Parshendi see Kaladin dressed in the bones of their dead. The strings and horns build up as the shock and horror turns to outrage and then to blinding, burning anger and crescendos as they start raining death at Kaladin, but the drums duel with the strings for dominance of the sound as he dances around everything they can throw at him. There’s a moment of wonder from the bridgemen, who aren’t being mown down in their suicidal charge, then it turns to awe as they see Kaladin. It crescendos again as the cavalry charge across the bridges, smashing the Parshendi lines.
With beatboxing, cos you know he totally would. When I told my team I wanted a jazz trio with a beatboxing flute for The King's Wit song, they all thought I was nuts. I was very hands on with this one, and I'm glad/proud that it landed so well. It's just so...Wit! Live action would never capture the world exactly. All those different races etc. you won't find actors to play them. The budget would have to be gigantic, that's not happening for a TV series, and you can't well make a movie out of these books. If we get a live action, it'll be crappy as hell.
I think with Game of Thrones, a new LOTR sieres and a Wheel of Time sieres that TV format for fantasy sieres is definately something that is beimg looked into more in the industry. I dont think it would be difficult to have all of the charcters in live action. But tge deciding factor for me is Roshar itself. I think that places like the shattered plains couldnt be done justice in animation. On the other hand Mistborn would be much better animated.
@@3Andzia3 I agree that much of the charcters and actual action could work well in animation, but for me Roshar's envirement is more important. The nature of animation is that while things can be heavily stylized they by neccesity lose detail. The strength of live action + cg is that things can be very detailed and inspire more wonder by tricking the brain much more effectivly that what it sees is real. This does however mean that things have to be less stylized and tone can be harder to convey. For Roshar, the envirement is so crucial to the world on so many levels that losing the detail on it would be a shame. While I do think there are some areas the live action would be a hinderence to the tone, in other areas like shardplate and shardblades, animation would take away some of the wonder. Shards would be come just another big sword. Compare that to Mistborn, where while the envirement is important it mostly sets tone. I cant imagine a live action mists that doesnt look bad. Animation in that case would greatly improve the tone and allow for cool stylization without sacrificing on wonder.
Everything about this is amazing. It encapsulates what made the book epic in the most spectacular way. I could imagine the colossal canyons. I could feel the stonewall as if it hit me. I almost cried at Tians theme. I could feel the emotion in waves that I’ve never felt before. This is truly a work of art
My favorite moment in the album is the transition between Honor is Dead and Sylphrena. In Kaladin's darkest moment, Syl was that angel on his shoulder that helped to literally pull him back from the edge of death. The transition just gives the perfect feeling of a small spark of light piercing the darkness, giving hope for a sunrise. Love it! Amazing work!
I'm so glad you appreciated that little moment. Syl is so tiny, yet she backs such a hopeful punch that it just cuts through everythying. Philip Klein was our composer for that one, and he nailed it.

@@carlsmith4568 dalinar owned his actions, he was never really a dishonest man The nature of why we hate moash is very different, most of us put in his and kaladin's situation would turn out to be moash, a corward willing to sacrifice a whole lot to feel a little better, or in his case feel less shame about what he's done.

I think Wandersail goes wonderfully with WoR epilogue. It starts with Wit's iconic flute, It's all dark. He's talking about the end of the world. Then there's a sudden shift, a chance for hope - the Radiant's theme, mixed with Wit's flute - a special someone is coming. Then it goes back to being slow and sad. Their journey has been for nothing, it is too late. And then another shift - They are not going to give up. Wit's flute mixes with the Radiants theme, very little can stop them with their cooperation and shared knowledge. There is hope. A fitting track to one of my favorite scenes in the series.

We considered the fact that Hoid was from a different time and world, and he tends to stick out when he chooses to. So of course the thing that came to me was a jazz trio of a cello, a contra bass, and a beatboxing flute, lol. My team thought I was nuts until they heard it. This song represents the party on the King's Island, where Wit is insulting people at the door. The bass represents Dalinar, trying to rigidly stay in time, and the cello represents Navani as she flirts with Dalinar. It definitely goes off genre a bit, but hopefully in that context, it at least makes more sense. Fun fact: the flautist is Katisse Buckingham, the same flautist that plays the flute in the Ron Burgundy: Anchorman film.
@@barmeyblonde You did an amazing job, guys! This explanation adds even more depth to the piece. I always think of that scene when I listen to King's Wit cause it just so perfectly depicts those dynamics and Hoid's eccentric and somewhat obnoxious nature. Thank you so so much for this and the whole album! You're doing the whole BrandoSando community a great favor. The whole album is a masterpiece!
@@barmeyblonde I agree with OP. It felt a bit too much Dr. Seuss and far too happy for Hoid. While he jokes, I fear his story is far more serious much like his fables. I did however LOVE how well wandersail was handled with the influence of Hoid and his pipe.
@@elliotstaveley682 That's fair. When we wrote this, I had only read TWOK. I feel the song accurately suits the face he's wearing during the scene on The King's Island, where he's heckling everybody at the door. The technique involved in playing beat boxing jazz flute requires an intense amount of skill, discipline, and knowledge to perform. Which is why I chose it in the first place. I wish we were able to do more albums so we could explore the nuances of Hoid. I'm glad you enjoyed Wandersail. The man does have a sad history even if we don't know what it is entirely. The King's Wit is supposed to be a fool that plays over (most) everyone's heads. I appreciate your feedback and am glad you enjoy the music!
@@barmeyblonde I’m glad you don’t see this as harsh criticism. There’s no denying that it’s a great piece of music and the skill shines through even if this one piece feels out of place. The album as a whole is great and I’d love to see you produce music for the rest of the instalments. Notably: - Hoid at the end of oathbringer (great to showcase the layers of personality) - Lift & wendle - Azir - Heratic (Jasnah’s theme) - Swordmaster (Zahel’s theme) - 2 themes for taravangian (almost jekyl & hyde in nature. compassion & capacity) - Torment (Taln arrives) - For the greater good (Amaram’s theme) - A pruning (Dalinar’s encounter) - The girl who looked up - Honor’s final message - Horneater (Rock’s theme) - He who quiets (moash’s theme)

@Lucas Báez It's versatile. Like a movie soundtrack, you can try aligning the music with the scene, you can listen to it the whole thing in any order or just on loop while you read, you can listen to our in the car, at the gym, etc., and remember the scenes as they play out on the soundtrack.
The music in this album is so amazing, major kudos to all the composers, orchestrators, sound engineers, and players. It manages to convey so many feelings and reflects the book very well. Broke: We should get a Stormlight movie Woke: we should get a stormlight anime Seriously though, the series would make an awesome Netflix Castlevania-type anime
Bespoke: Stormlight already IS an anime. Vast rocky shonen-battlefield-background, big swords for HUGE fights, impossibly edgy assassin dude, Four is Death, literal in-universe emote-indicators (is there a better name for e.g. the giant sweat beads and wink-stars? They're spren now, cope), in-universe dramatic-speech-as-power-up-moments, roomful of JUST AS PLANNED, Jasnah-senpai, I could go on for a while. Being printed in words on paper is basically a footnote by comparison. (Syl is best girl)
Dirdle that’s literally all I’ve been thinking as I read through the series. I’m glad I’m not the only other one who thought that. And yes, Syl is inarguably best girl
Agreed, there are essencial things in fantasy books that can only be adapted in anime style series. A 3-5 line paragraph/sentence telling what the character is feeling/thinking can be shown as a short fast internal dialogue of one line, something that doesnt feel right with live action but it does with animations. Also expository texts can be shown with extra scenes or random characters (example: when a characters sees a monument/painting/etc about historical or plot facts, and the text expains what it is, the director can show that info as a mental dialogue or as a random person talking). Like one of the directors of The Expanse tv series said about adding scenes: "to show and not to tell". The thing is that how long would it be? His dark materials hbo first season is going to be 8 episode of ~55 minutes each (equivalent to 18-20 episodes of 21 mins), and that book is ~120k words. Without interludes TWoK already is 354k, WoR is 346k and OB is 420, and books 4 snd 5 will also be like that. That means that withoout interludes they're almost ×3, with them a little more. That makes 50+ epsiodes per book. And my otaku side would like the anime to be in japanese. The graphic audio actors are awsome too but idk, im a loser lol.

(Sandra Schnieders, the composer who arranged the song, has worked with the likes of James Newton Howard and Danny Elfmann, and she brought the song to life beautifully.)
IKR!!!!!! And ohhh the chapter
The scuttling of a thousand creatures
I am speechless about Assasin In White. The piece starts with Parshendi drumers and eventually it zooms out into a lacrimose but terrible piano Melody. The string section makes an excelent job at the crescendo, really gives you chills. The whole piece makes a stunning job on transmiting Szeth´s dispair and fierceness. Amazing!! Congrats!!
Thank you!
Rysn is pretty cool too.
Everyone on Roshar:
Wit: Allow me to introduce you to energetic jazz. On a FLUTE!
With beatboxing, cos you know he totally would. When I told my team I wanted a jazz trio with a beatboxing flute for The King's Wit song, they all thought I was nuts. I was very hands on with this one, and I'm glad/proud that it landed so well. It's just so...Wit! We were also very lucky to have Katisse Buckingham play the flute for us (he is the flautist that played in Anchorman. When we were looking for the right jazz flautist, everyone just kep saying, "Katisee. Katisse is the guy." lol. And he was, he nailed it.

This tribute music is awesome.
This isn't tribute music. It's officially licensed. We are professional Hollywood peeps who are also Sanderfans and wanted to do a musical adaptation of the book. You can learn more about us on our website www.theblackpiper.com. The album is currently on a temporary embargo (which was part of our contract, so no issues there, not that we can talk about --we're all getting along), but it should be lifted soon. Then you'll be able to listen to it and buy it on the usual platforms.

I'm physically unable to explain how much I love Wandersail. EVERYTHING about that piece is AWESOME.
The Assassin in White sounds straight out of a large budget television show... I can picture it perfectly
So they already have soundtrack for "The Stormlight Archive" animated series that they SHOULD make.
Unfortunatly that seems along way off. I however feel that Roshar as a whole would look much better in live action.
Watch "Attack on Titan" then tell me that Shattered Plains - Kaladin's training and all that - wouldn't be better than in animation.
Just started Way of Kings and this soundtrack is great to read along with.
You're playing a dangerous game, friend! Amazing series, just be careful of spoilers in the comments.
Man I'm getting chills listening to this while I study for my exam.
Amy Eubanks did you get into a scholar wardship?
How did you do?
Everything about this is amazing. It encapsulates what made the book epic in the most spectacular way. I could imagine the colossal canyons. I could feel the stonewall as if it hit me. I almost cried at Tians theme. I could feel the emotion in waves that I’ve never felt before. This is truly a work of art
Thank you so much! I'm glad we were able honor Brandon's work.

@@carlsmith4568 dalinar owned his actions, he was never really a dishonest man
The nature of why we hate moash is very different, most of us put in his and kaladin's situation would turn out to be moash, a corward willing to sacrifice a whole lot to feel a little better, or in his case feel less shame about what he's done.

I love how the beginning of The Blackthorn gives the vibe of a medieval-era Nuclear Siren. I just think that's sooo fitting.
Sorry, Dalinar...
I appreciate the association with a nuclear siren. There are ten double beats in that section, indicating Dalinar's countdown from ten heartbeats.
WOW. Every song in this soundtrack is SO POWERFUL. Of course, part of it is that the story behind it is so powerful, but even putting the book aside, this is amazing music. I'm an amateur writer. I'm working on my third book and I still haven't published any of them. Speaking as a writer, I would give ANYTHING to have this for my books. It would mean so much to me... From what I've seen it's pretty standard for it to take a jillion years for a book to be finished by always starting something new before you finish.

WHAT you write is irrelevant, what matters is that you WRITE.
it's the practice that does it.

I went looking for "You're in my spot." Kaladin is awesome! I was not disappointed. 32:20 reminds me of AoT when Floch looks up and sees that the charge at shiganshina wasn't for nothing. I imagine that's the moment Kaladin realizes he isn't dead.

22:11 "What's one more try, Kaladin?"
That's exactly the moment we wrote that part for. Glad it landed! Thank you for listening!
I love the whole playlist but The King's Wit just slaps differently >.
Notably:
- Hoid at the end of oathbringer (great to showcase the layers of personality)
- Lift & wendle
- Azir
- Heratic (Jasnah’s theme)
- Swordmaster (Zahel’s theme)
- 2 themes for taravangian (almost jekyl & hyde in nature. compassion & capacity)
- Torment (Taln arrives)
- For the greater good (Amaram’s theme)
- A pruning (Dalinar’s encounter)
- The girl who looked up
- Honor’s final message
- Horneater (Rock’s theme)
- He who quiets (moash’s theme)

Dirdle that’s literally all I’ve been thinking as I read through the series. I’m glad I’m not the only other one who thought that. And yes, Syl is inarguably best girl
and mistborn!
