right? if you dont want to contribute to society by working only 40 hours, you can live off the grid. theres plenty of land thats not inhabited in america that you can move to. surely though he wont do it, itll be more like 18 hour work days.

As a software developer, I think 38 hours a week if you have a remote position and don't have to commute anywhere, it lets you have plenty of spare time for yourself and enough work time for your company if you REALLY can do your job in that 38 hours time period. I disagree with the mindset that "my grandparents worked 15 hours a day and we must feel ashamed by complaning about working 40 hours a week, and they didn't even had air-conditioner", I'm 37 and I did work 45 hours a week for 15 years on an office, 2 hours of commuting, studying at night 4 more hours on the university to become a software developer, and now I have a remote position, working 40 hours a week and have plenty of time for my family and myself, I improved my working conditions overtime, but doesnt mean that I want to the next generations to start from the same crappy conditions, I don't want it for my 5 years old daughter for sure.
Don't get me wrong, I do believe in hard work, but I believe in smart work the most, and we should always aim to improve working conditions because that's how we get a better quality of life, that's how society advances, we are improving our conditions to find a balance between working hours and resting, which is necessary to be productive and keep functioning. Most of long working hours are not as productive because we lost focus on the long run, mostly because pareto's principle, Ford knew this 70 years ago and that's why we have 40 hours a week as an standar.
I really think 38 hours is the sweet spot to do a good job in any company and have plenty of spare time, but anything less than 36 is not an option for any company to survive. We must encourage tho, the remote work (if possible) to decongest traffic and populated cities, and teach the next generations the value of productive and smart work more than "hard work" as we know it to stay long time periods on a building working in a not-so-smart way.

Love your message in this video. So sorry to hear that you experienced sexual harassment and the nightmare of HR. I have been there myself on quite a few occasions. I reported the incidents to HR, and was told the same thing, there was “not enough evidence”, on yet another occasion: I was brushed off and told “that’s just his sense of humor”.
Those are only 2 examples, but every single time I was ignored/dismissed, and gaslit into believing that I was the problem… I am currently working from home and enjoying a bit more freedom and independence now, but one day I hope to truly work for myself, and will never have to work for one of these corrupt corporations ever again.

The difference is that back when you were 20, you actually had a light at the end of the tunnel. If you got a decent job you could afford a house. Nowadays in my area you have to be at the top to even afford a house. And don't give me the bs about "yeah stuff was cheaper, but I made way less!". That's bullshit. I'm 30 and when I was a kid I asked my dad how much he made, he said 80k. We were a family of 5 with pets and we had a decent house, went on vacations, had four wheelers and shit. There aint NO WAY anyone's doing all that with 80k these days. Now I know 80k was a lot 20 years ago but if my dad it so could anyone else.
Even 4 years ago, you could get a beater car for under a grand. I had one so I know. Nowadays you can't find anything under 3 grand that'll last more than 3 months.
So when you call Gen Z "lazy", I think you should replace the word "lazy" with "demotivated". Do you seriously think laziness never existed before Gen Z? Give me a break dude. Stop drinking tap water.

@@FlyingOverTr0utyeah, I think a lot of the older generation are out of touch. My uncle said we had it the best. I said technologically yes. But in terms of actually setting up life fuuuu no. My father had 4 kids. He was able to buy a house. Sell it and not make a profit. Start from zero and 5 years later buy another house. My cousin with his gf have the same jobs as my parents. They were together for 5 years with no children before being able to only afford a small condo at the very edge of the city. My cousin is working harder than my father and making less! Boomers had it to good, they are delusional.

My father grew up on a farm his entire life. His father did the same. I remember him leaving home early in the morning before the sun came up and coming back home after the sun had gone down. This was 20 years ago. And the world has changed so much in the last 20 years. What took my father a couple hours of driving into a field to turn on water became a button press from a tablet. We're talking giant corporate crop circles that could be operated from a tablet. Tractors that practically drive themselves in straight lines up and down the fields thanks to GPS. Machines that harvest fields in a day. Drones that can take aerial infrared images of crop circles to determine which areas of the fields need more water or nutrients. Stuff teams of people, vehicles, and aircraft needed to accomplish can now be done by one person with a tablet or phone.
My father still believes that working 40 hour work (if not more) weeks is the right thing to do. I'm not that sure anymore though. Technological advancements has just made the work easier and quicker. The amount of profit made off the amount of effort required has skewed so much so that corporations are seeing massive profits for very little labor. And those profits aren't given to those who put in that work. They're just pocketed or invested back into the company to buy better machinery that will give them even more profit with even less labor.
We are seeing a shift in the definition of "work" that human history has never seen before. Not even the industrial revolution really compares to the amount of technological progress we are seeing. Perhaps it's an overreliance of technology, but it's where we're at. Something has to change because work has changed. The money being flung around by corporations has changed. It'll be interesting to see where we go from here and how our lives or our children's lives will change as we come out of these technological growing pains and reestablish what it means to be productive and the new lifestyle we can expect due to the prosperity we are seeing.

Your message is strong, and you make some nuanced points about the specific injustices posed by corporations against workers. Gen Z has a short attention span, you might reach more viewers with reels/stories/tik toks/short form content who could then link back to your longer videos. A bit of distilled wisdom can go a long way. Good luck!

I'm 31, and got fooled by the title. 44mins is waaaay too long imo. Content like this is best when it starts as a bunch of smaller clips or "Scenes" that get edited into a longer version. (This is most common in the tutorial niches, but would have greatly benefited the message imo) Using clickbait for this is gonna result in low engagement. Nobody will keep watching really. Which is a shame as I ended up agreeing completely with him!

@gameratortylerstein5636 You watched all 44 mins in one go despite there being no editing or anything? If so, that makes you the exception, not the rule. I promise that much. There's a reason this dude has 20k subs and rarely ever cracks 1k views across dozens of videos. I'm not trying to be mean. I'm just saying there's a reason for this. The format is most likely it.

"I HAD TO WALK TO SCHOOL IN THE SNOW! UPHILL! BOTH WAYS!!!"
*EDIT: Okay okay I watched more lol. But my guy. 44mins? C'mon. It's UA-cam not a Netflix Special I chose to watch. The title is clickbait lol. For a good cause but my goodness. Short form content first please xD*
Just because you had to suffer doesn't mean the other generations have to. I totally agree with Gen Z. Entry level jobs suck. I am 31, and never went to college as it was basically a scam to me. I wanted to make video games. So I did. I watched UA-cam. Read books, and made them. I was presenting at E3 by the time I was 21. I was the Tech Lead of an Atlanta startup by 26. I have since shifted to the music industry and produced for Chris Moon (Prince) and Butch Vig (Nirvana, Green Day) Now I own a catalogue of over 2,000 songs and work directly with a label and music distro.
I straight up *refused* to work an entry level 9-5. Nobody gave me crap for it, as I was achieving more than I needed to. That's the difference imo.
I agree completely that entry level jobs suck, and the work is under paid and under valued. It's boomer-esque nonsense to just yell at the "kids these days" lol. The only issue I have is if you 1) Don't wanna go to school 2) Don't know how to creatively enter a niche or make money on your own-- then you gotta work a crappy entry level job. Is what it is. It sucks. Complain about it. Do it, and complain about it. That's adulting lol.
What more do you want from them lol.
