Hillstream River Aquascape Aquarium Tutorial!

- Hey Guys, I hope you are all doing well! Today I am going to be showing you my rescape of Hillstream Biotope Aquascape Aquarium that is for my Stiphodon Goby's! The main hardscape I am going to be using is Scottish River Boulders, I think they are really underused, especially in the aquascaping scene. These River Stones help to make such a natural and simplist looking Aquascape! Since this is an aquarium for Goby's you can kind of call this an Asian Hillstream Aquarium as this is typically where most Goby's are from.
I was inspired by an old Aquascape George Farmer created for White Mountain Minnows, which share a similar biotope to Stiphodon Sp. In this scape, I have mainly used Scottish Cobbles and Boulders to create this Hillstream Aquarium. This set up is perfect for Goby's, Hillstream Loaches, Danios and White Mountain Minnows and even Shrimp will love this aquarium. I am super happy with the end result, this Hillstream Tank is a simple set up and it has a nice clean modern look to it!

there's a saying that simplicity is the ultimate sophistication, i think this quote captures what you did for this scape. very elegant
It really does! I’m a fan of the simplicity with this scape!
Hey there, just saw this, you stepped in front of the camera and got a mic! Great job, you have a very good video presence, keep it up. 🙂
Thank you! Yeah I thought it was time to change things up!
I’m definitely with you regards the algae. It makes the whole set up far more natural looking. Like the simplistic look of this aquarium.
I agree! Same here it’s nice to create something simple from time to time!
I like it a lot! Very simple and clean but not a bare tank look.
Thank you very much!
Awesome guide, thank you! Definitely want to set up a hillstream for some Stiphodons someday, so I'm going to keep this saved for future reference.
Definitely recommend it, they will love it!
I'm definitely gonna do a river tank some day! I really like my stiphodon gobies and my white clouds would like this kind of tank too. looks good man!
Thank you! I definitely recommended you set up a river tank! I’m tempted to get some white clouds too, such an underrated fish!
A fine home for the long boys!
They are loving life!
Hillstreamscapes look sooooo good! Love this build.
Thank you so much!
@@KrishsAquariums No problem :) I hope to build a tank similar to this sometime soon they look great! Just need to find some hillstream loaches or gobies!
They are tricky to find at times, hopefully your LFS can help you out!
@@KrishsAquariums Fingers crossed! Looking forward to updates on this build of yours 🙂
I loved it.. finally a zero plant real actual riverscape aquarium.. gorgeous boulders btw, probably from Scotland or Ireland, they have most beautiful rocks to look at when you see their rivers and beaches… I loved the look of it and I might only later have added 1x ( just one ) valisneria mini on the back between two centerpiece boulders .. nothing more … but is there any way to prevent algae growth? Maybe even if no fish at all but few amano shrimps? or perhaps cappuccino snails?
Thank you so much! I’m glad I didn’t add plants to this scape! I think the boulders are from Scotland. I think a vallis would look really nice, tempting idea. I think having low lighting, good flow and some shrimp and snails will keep algae levels low!
@@KrishsAquariums that is what I too like and think… been watching few videos on riverscaping and they all get much algae and always add too many plants, while the whole idea of riverscapes is the Zen/Serenity/clarity of the water and boulders and truly when you filled the tank, those boulders came to life; it’s like boulders and gravel and stones scream for water to be beautiful.. why add plants unless for those scapes starting from say river shore to river bed in hillstream shape toward only sand and no plants but only at the base with biggest rocks .. I have a 28l tank, not big but if I find two beautiful big boulders with cracks and vains in red or blue and other natural tones, I ll make it.. only Dennerle Mekong sand (trust me, it is beautiful) and some WIO Heaven on the edges or the bed surface itself, few gravels between rocks and a true Zen aqua riverscape with few chilli rasbora’s .. might add a piece or two of wood with Bucephalandra wavy or blue on top to add green hue’s only
So looking forward to setting up a tank like this for stiphodons. I've had some in my community tanks, but I know I would enjoy them more in their own tank, and they would probably prefer more flow than they get in my community tanks. Just subscribed.
They really do shine in there own tank, I highly recommend setting one up! Thank you for subscribing!
Great tutorial, thank you!! How many gobies are you currently keeping in this new setup?
Thank you, on my last count I think there are 18 gobies!
When very large rocks are added to an aquarium, they take up a lot of space, which negatively reduces the volume of water needed to house healthy fish. Maybe I'm wrong?
You are correct, you will reduce the volume of water in your aquarium!
You call that aquascape?
Technically yes, not all Aquascapes need to be planted!
@@KrishsAquariums did I mention any where about plants?
