Mobile Mechanic - 2017 Chrysler Pacifica - P018C Fuel Pressure Sensor Circuit Low

  • I had a customer's van show a P018C Check Engine Light code and discovered the fix was to replace the Fuel Pressure Sensor which is inline on a fuel hose. Part # 52030445AA is no longer available, so you now need to order 68421782AA and 68137864AC. The 2nd part is a new wire harness. Apparently they discontinued the fuel pressure sensor originally used, and now there is a different one. You might be able to still find and order the older, discontinued style online which would be plug and play, but the newer, replacement style requires you to splice in a new harness and I show you how to do that. Feel free to ask any questions and I'll get back to you as soon as I can. Thanks!
    This is a link to the exact procedure I shared above: static.nhtsa.g...

    To remove the fuel hose, you need to separate the legs of the red/blue clip from below (you may not be able to see them) and then it should unlock and slide away from the hose. The white clip legs are then free to expand and separate when you try to pull the hose off. Neither the red or white clips need to be completely removed from the fuel hose.

    TLDR: if you don’t hear two clicks when reinstalling the tube try lubing the lip it needs to go over.
    Just had to do this repair myself, having never worked on a car before, since the two different men who said they could take care of it were no shows. The clip going toward the back of car definitely did not click. I did feel it go past the lip, but no locking. I started the car and no fuel was leaking so I assumed it was fine. But I had a very bad feeling that that might not be the case if driving the car around. The next day I started the car again to confirm my fear and fuel was now spraying every where.
    You don’t really need a tool to get this part on right. Turns out the fuel helped to lubricate the lip and after that and a two handed effort (one hand on each part pushing together rather than just pushing it from one end) it locked on. It’s TWO clicks you want to hear.

    • @mjspiess
      @mjspiess  13 днів тому

      It sounds like you had quite the adventure with that car repair! It's impressive that you managed to figure it out, especially without prior experience. Your tip about listening for the two clicks and using fuel as a lubricant is really practical. Thanks for the feedback.

    Thanks for the video! I was surprised to have this happen on a 2017 vehicle with only 23,000 miles. The only snag I ran into was not realizing there were TWO clips that needed to come off the engine side connection - a blue clip (upper) and the white clip (lower) I finally figured it out when I got a flashlight down in there - then the section of the video where you show the white clip made sense to me. I used the white/yellow wires in the kit only - it is easier to splice the smaller wires (18ga) to the small 22ga wires feeding the old connector. Also, recommend using long splice solder connections, and not the cheesy crimp terminals in the kit. Make the individual splices about 2 inches from each other so there is no danger of ever shorting, and cover the long splices with 1/8" marine shrink tubing (available at Harbor Freight). Don't try to use the gargantuan shrink tube supplied in the kit! It won't shrink enough onto these small wires! I wasn't sure if the code would clear by itself when I was done (it did!). Amen!

      This code typically points to problems in the wiring. I would guess your original spice job may have come loose or got corroded.
      Inspect the wiring harness and connectors related to the fuel pressure sensor. Look for loose connections, damaged wiring, or corroded connector pins. If any issues are found, repair them as necessary.

    Thank you for the great video, minus the dead camera battery at the end. One question though. The spec sheet you linked to in the end talks about making sure the length of the wires are approximately the same but the process you followed seemed like it was lengthening the wires by a foot or more. What did you do with the extra length of wire you used? thanks again.

    • @mjspiess
      @mjspiess  2 роки тому

      You're welcome. I did make the wires longer. I figured I'd rather have excess vs not enough, so I folded the wires and zip tied the excess bundle along side another wire loom I think.

    Hopefully this thread is still live. Thank you for the video. Ironically for me, I never got a sensor code, rather I had a pinhole in the tube that was squirting gas. Replaced tube/sensor and spliced in new harness with oem parts per the video. Now I get a P018D code. Code Didn’t clear with obd scan tool. But, when I start the car after clearing, check engine light goes off - drive for 20 mi at varyimg speeds, car runs fine and light never comes back on. Turn car off, back on, check engine light back. Tried shortening the wires but still throwing the p018D code. Any ideas?

    I am having the same issue with my 2017 Pacifica. However, when I look it up online, mopar has the part for sale but it doesn’t say anything about needing to splice a new connector in or anything. The auto store said that they can’t order it and I would have to go through the dealership to get it fixed. I just don’t know if I will need the connector or if it will plug right in. Do you know if there is a way to tell before I order it?

    • @mjspiess
      @mjspiess  2 роки тому +1

      As far as I know, the only part that will plug right in is no longer available (52030445AA). If the part # is 68421782AA, then it requires the additional harness that needs spliced in (68137864AC). When I ordered mine through the dealership I think their software bundled the two since they are both required to get it to work.

      P0206 is usually caused by a bad fuel injector or wiring issue, so it would require you to evaluate the wiring to that injector and if it's good, then likely will need to replace the fuel injector.
