Man I had this loud clunk noise from first to second gear on my 2017 Pacifica , I followed your resetting procedures and already put over 200 miles on it ... the noise is freakn gone !!!! Thank you so much !!! God bless you and your family and have an awesome 2022 !!!
Just got my 2019 and havent made the first payment yet and was not a happy camper with the occasional harsh shifting. Came across this and tried it. SO MUCH BETTER! A big THANK YOU!
Dude!!! Thanks for doing all the research and saving me a ton of time and money. Since we have the same vehicle, I'll be checking into your channel regularly.
Can't wait to do this on our 2017 Pacifica...exact same issues with intermittent hesitation in shifting at low speeds. THANK YOU THANK YOU! Do you also have the peeling paint on the front hood edge?
Just purchased a 2017 Touring L plus in June with 75k miles. She was my first pick to haul my grandsons around for a number of reasons and wanted a reliable vehicle. Been to the shop 3 times since with what we thought were transmission problems, haven't found one, yet. Going to try this the minute we bring her home for the 3rd time tomorrow morning! I'm very hopeful that this will address the problem. Sad that this problem (non-problem) wasn't disclosed at the time of purchase, since this seems to be a problem that many owners are having. I'll keep you posted. Thanks for the info!
Yes! thank you so much for this video. I am over 100k miles now in my 2015 Chrysler 200, and felt my shifting getting really harsh recently. I took it through an automatic wash and while it was rolling, I shifted from neutral to drive. when I turned the car off to vacuum, I was shocked and surprised to have my dashboard light up like a Christmas tree. Check light engine turned on with "CAN C BUS connection failure" and Transmission service Required error. My car was stuck in 4th gear until I turned it off for a few minutes. Once turned on again only the Check engine light was on, and would not shift out of 4th gear. I completed this step you have provided and all is working again. Check light turned off, and car is now shifting even smoother than before. I was about to take this car into service. I will keep an eye on it to see if the issues return, as I know I am over 100k miles and working on those maintenance steps already. Thank you so much again!
Great to hear that this worked on your 200! Appreciate you checking in with your experience, it inspires me to keep trying to help. I know major car repairs can be financially ruinous especially now that prices are so out of control.
I was so heartbroken to have just purchased a used Pacifica and have the transmission jerking like that on day 2. At that point I was glad I purchased a warranty. But then I saw this video and to say I was a bit skeptical would be an understatement. WOW! that is just crazy how well this worked. The world needs more people like you! You saved me money and most of all my sanity! Many thanks for the effort you put into this video.
I just watched this video and can't wait to try it on my 2018 Pacifica. I use my car to tow a utility trailer, and noticed the hard shifting after I began doing that. It makes sense that the transmission is trying to compensate for the extra weight, then gets out of whack when the weight is gone. Thanks so much for the tip.
@@TheLawnEngineer Hey man I just wanted to thank you again for your tips I’ve driven it now for couple weeks, I have not had one transmission issue since your reset thanks a lot.
Rarely do I take the time to comment on a video, but I'm too grateful not to in this case. I received a "shifter service" message after my battery died. I jumped my 2018 Pacifica and was headed to the mechanic to diagnose the shifter message, which seem to prevent my "P R N D L" lights to illuminate. I followed these reset instructions and those lights came back on. Thank you!
I was so worried about my 2019 Chrysler Pacifica last night . I literally stopped driving for Uber in the middle of a surge because up to 5000 rpm I couldn’t get to 50 miles an hour and prior to that I was having huge jerk like kick when I started driving ( I felt like another car hit from behind ) and I had an engine light on too. I did this before I went to bed . This morning I started it run for 10 miles no issues and no engine light anymore . 30 miles no issues 45 miles no issues It runs like nothing never happen . It definitely work Thank you for this valuable quick fix.
I'm glad that this was able to help you out! Please consider subscribing to my channel so we can get the word out to more people struggling with the same issue.
Thank you for this video and the transmission drain/refill video. Initially this procedure improved the rough shifting on our 2017 Pacifica. Unfortunately it stopped helping a few months ago. I purchased an OBDLink MX+ Bluetooth scanner and downloaded AlfaOBD software on my PC. I was able to do a reset and it helped. I know you no longer own the Pacifica, but hopefully someone else might find this helpful.
Thank you so very much! I thought I was gonna have to get a brand new new transmission at the beginning of the year 2024. I stumbled upon this video by accident. Thank you again, my 2017 Pacifica is running like a brand new vehicle.
Wow thanks sooo much for posting this video. I’m so lucky to have stumbled on it. We thought our 2017 Pacifica transmission was on its way out with such heavy shifting clunks You saved us a lot of grief and money because this is worked like a charm!!!
Thank you so much. I bought my pacifica as an Import in Germany. So here in Europe, there is not much help for pacifica drivers. I thought my transmission is broke until i found your UA-cam Channel
This is absolutely mind blowing to me, I have tried everything, I have a 2017 Chrysler Pacifica touring L with the same exact issue, I tried this and have driven over 500 miles and the problem disappeared completely and I had experienced this problem about 6-15 times DAILY driving to 0, thank you. Seriously.
I’m so glad to hear it helped you out. I know the dealers don’t have a fix but they could at least tell people about this reset. Or even Chrysler could send out a letter.
I’ve just tried this for a second time, first time didn’t seem to make a difference. We have a 17 Pacifica limited and the shifting isn’t awful yet, but it isn’t smooth. This issue started just under 30k miles, we are the original owners. So disappointed in this van. We’ve replaced both batteries too around 18k miles for almost 1k. I’m so tired of this stuff. I appreciate you working out a solution, it’s clear that Chrysler doesn’t care.
Unfortunately batteries don’t last based on miles, it’s more time based. Automotive batteries are not made to the same specifications they use to, most of them don’t last no matter the auto manufacturer. The transmission tuning is 100% on Chrysler, they should recall these vehicles.
I test drove a 2017 Pacifica with the dealer sitting beside me. It did the HARD SHIFT several times during the drive. I told the dealer no thanks because the transmission is going out. The dealer called me the next day and said they would pay for a new tranny or knock off the cost of a new tranny if I wanted to deal with it. I saw this video that night and went back to the dealer and did what was said here and went for another test drive. The transmission shifted perfect and has been for nearly a year.So because of this three minute fix I got a great deal on a great van! THANKS
I can't wait to get our 2017 CP Limited back from the shop. Our shifter gave out completely and we also notice the hard shifts like so hard from 1st to 2nd to 3rd it feels like its coming out of the car lol. Thanks so much for posting this!!
Thank you for posting this. I have a 2019 Pacifica and I hate this predictive transmission. I had the dealership reset it once. What happens with mine is that the car does not want to accelerate. Last time I had this issue the dealership thoroughly checked over my car and cannot find anything wrong. Last resort was to reset the transmission. Once they did that everything was fine. That was about a year ago. Now I'm finding it needs to be reset again. I will give this a try with your instructions.
Thanks you sir. I just got my wife a 2017 Chrysler Pacifica from a car dealership. Is the 2nd day we had it It jerked really hard While driving it. Every couple of days it kept doing it. So I called the dealership and asked them to look at it. They wanted me to start paying an extra $250 a month Because The Warranty That came with the car didn't cover the Transmission fully. Only 20% of the Transmission is covered. How is only 20% of a transmission covered By the dealership . Lmao wtf! How the h*** is only 20% of the transmission covered by warranty. Anyways I researched it and found your video and sure enough my car runs fine again. Thanks a bunch. You have a new subscriber.
Wow, that's a new one...20% covered. I'm glad to hear that the reset has improved things for you. Also, thanks for the subscription and taking the time to check in.
FCA Corporate Secret about fix for clunky 2017 Pacifica transmissions, that’s why it’s not in the manual. Thanks for sharing this excellent and informative video with consumers.
I just did this to my Chrysler 200 I was getting really hard shifts in fifth gear You could even hear engaging noises I switched out the fluid with Valvoline max life. And did this reset it's done it a quite a few times but it seems like much better!
Tried this on my 2018, and immediately fixed what I thought was a purely mechanical issue. Thank you! Let’s see how long this goes before having to reset it again.
Glad it helped! Unfortunately, I think many people are dealing with the same issue and have wasted a lot of money on it, nothing worse than thinking your trans. is going out (maybe engine).
Hey man! Just checked out your blog on the 17’ pacifica. DEFINITELY have answered questions ive been brainstorming on those rough/hard shifts randomly. About to go and reset my wifes van! 🤙
Thank you for this fix. My van was having terrible clunks for months. I had to do this reset three times in a month and then it completely stopped clunking on shifts. It then went six weeks before another hard shift. I am doing the reset again and I hope it goes another six weeks. This transmission is so disappointing but at least there’s an easy fix for now. 🤞🏻
Glad it helped. I am also resetting about once a month and have completely eliminated the big clunks. It is amazing how widespread this issue is, should definitely be a recall.
@@robertyanez4671 I completely agree. I think automotive journalism views recalls incorrectly. They ding reliability scores for recalls but I think auto makers should be rewarded for recalls. Recalls are a good thing for consumers, they admit there is a problem and fix it.
@@TheLawnEngineer So if you are resetting once a month, how do you know it is "working"? Our 2018 Pacifica has the same problem, but it is pretty rare so there isn't a regular "timing" between bad shifts. Just curious.... Thanks for this super helpful video, I am going to try it tonight on our van!!
@@patterbt the only way I know it’s working is by feel. I don’t drive the vehicle every day…maybe twice a week. I can notice the shifting getting sloppier over time and I reset now before it gets bad.
I own a 2021 Pacifica FWD with the same issues. Only have 18000km on it. On top of this, we had one instance where the transmission was upshifting and downshifting repeatedly for 10 seconds trying to cruise at 38km/hr in a school zone. Took it to the dealership and they flashed the PCM last week. So far so good, but will have to wait and see. Good learning from your video for personal knowledge if it happens to me again!
Thanks for checking in, this information really helps others out, but I'm disappointed. I thought the new Transmission Control Unit that they started using in 2020 took care of this issue; I guess not.
@@TheLawnEngineer I feel like Chrysler won't do a recall until this issue causes a catastrophic failure to the transmission and an accident/injury/death. Until now, I don't think it has, so Chrysler has gotten away with just TSBs for the transmission. My '12 Dodge Journey had similar transmission software issues that was resolved at the Dealership for the life of the vehicle, but not sure why the Pacificas will continuously have this issue even after resetting the software.
@@apkakazai9611 yes, you are probably correct. It reminds me of the old sports saying “more games are lost than one.” If they could make a transmission computer that doesn’t make shifting terrible they would probably be a more successful company. Their overall product is decent taking a lose due to transmission controls.
Wow and I was about to spend over 2 grand on the tool to do it through the ECM. Thanks a million, my 2012 Chrysler 300 shifts like new and I’ve been having hard shifting problems for 2 years smh
Great video. I wasn't aware of the adaptive shifting programming. I actually had brought this into a dealership for a brake line issue and explained the transmission issue and they weren't able to reproduce anything and weren't aware of any issues. My wife and I often alternate which vehicles we drive, I wonder if that makes the algorithm get even more messed up due to the inconsistent driving styles.
Yes, switching drivers can make the shifting worse more quickly. Obviously, the programming/hardware isn't very good if this happens...most every vehicle is driven by more than one person. Anyway, this reset should help you mitigate the poor shifting. Thanks for checking in!
I am seriously considering buying one of these over the next week, but I must say, that this issue has me wondering if others regret buying this car, or if it's so great in other areas that this is something worth dealing with. Also, if anyone has anything else I should know, I'd greatly appreciate it. This is a big purchase for me. I am not wealthy by any means, but I have an aging 100 lb dog (the love of my life) who can't jump in and out of my regular car anymore, so I need something low to the ground that's easy for him to get in and out of, and a minivan is the only thing I know of like that. This is the minivan I've always had my eye on. My dog certainly isn't the only reason I want it, but that is why the timing is crucial. TYIA
P. S. It sounds like you are an nothing short of a hero helping others with this remedy. It makes me feel a whole lot better knowing that I can do this. What an amazing and kind thing you're doing sharing this great info.
I really like the overall vehicle but I found out the transmission issue after buying. If I knew before purchasing, I would have likely gone with a Toyota. At this point it’s the devil I know and the remedy is pretty simple, reset about once month. Also, thanks for the p.s. note it does keep me motivated to know that I’ve helped others. I fully understand that major vehicles problems can be financially ruinous for some families.
@@TheLawnEngineer for me, the best part of these minivans vs others is the stow and go for ALL seats. It's almost (or may actually be) too good to resist. Thank you for the reply, and you're very welcome. Keep doing what you're doing. I'm going to follow you now, just in case you learn of any other tricks, should I end up with a Pacifica of my own. No pressure, sincerely. 😉
We have a 100+ lb dog also. We Love the Sto-N-Go seats for the middle row captain’s chairs. We leave one down for our dog, and usually have his big dog bed there. It’s great for trips, as he can lay down, sit up, or even get to the back seat if he wants. When we get where we’re going, we can then pop the seats up and we can all ride together with family. Just a great feature that no other van has. Our last Honda van required the heavy seats to be removed, and the floor wasn’t flat and smooth underneath (latches sticking up). We left them in the garage, which took up space. Then, when we got to our destination, we didn’t have seats for family to ride with us. So, IMHO, the seats are a great selling point unmatched by others. Worth it!
How are you doing sir. Love your Pacifica videos so much. I purchased 2019 Pacifica to j good condition low miles 60000 and was serviced well. Unfortunately many pacificas have rain water leaking issues in the trunk due to poor factcry seam sealer above the hatch hinges. To fix that I have to remove roof rack side bars to be able to get access to seams to fix it. I could not find any videos on you tube regarding side rails removal. Please help. Thanks
Unfortunately, I no longer have this vehicle and I also couldn't find any resources to help with resealing the seam. I hope you find something that helps.
Unfortunately it did not work for me. I went through this with my 2017 and my 2019 salesman promised me it was only happening on 2017models. I am now at 38K miles having the same issue with my 2019. I tried your quick fix in great hopes it would work. It might have eased it say 20% but that 15 mph jump/kick back is brutal. It was the perfect car for us, but I am trading it in today on a buick enclave.
This is very unfortunate. Thanks for checking in, hopefully your message here prevents others from going down the same road. Your experience reinforces that it's an issue with the entire generation.
This worked like a charm on our clunking, hesitating to almost stalling 2017 Pacifica! Can’t thank you enough. Changes gears as smooth as butter now!!!
Typically setting off the engagement of the automatic e-brake by opening a door in gear is what starts a cycle of clunky shifting Edit:. I've noticed if you try and take off before the car os fully on sets it into a spiral as we..
Hi, thanks for your videos, Transmission reset was a big help! I have a 2017 Pacifica Limited with almost 200k now and the radio system is possessed. It has a mind of its own and cycles through different screens all on its own. Is this a known problem? I disconnected the battery to power down, did the "two button push" to soft reset, removed the fuse numerous times but nothing works. Any suggestions?
Just did this, so far so good. Thank you! Do you happen to know anything about the power steering? Mine tends to stick at the 0100 position.. rather annoying.
Thank you. I don’t have any personal experience with the power steering. Someone on here did say they were in the process of replacing the steering rack but didn’t say why.
You’re welcome. Unfortunately you have to repeat this reset on a routine basis. I explain in this video Updated 2017+ Chrysler Pacifica Transmission Reset: Fix those harsh shifts ua-cam.com/video/REgRcfIc6Z0/v-deo.html
Thanks for sharing I've experienced the same exact hard shifting issues. Dealership charged me to "update" the transmission software but the problem comes back again after a while. I will be trying this. Do you know if a new transmission control module (or aftermarket) is available that would fix this issue permanently? Instead of having to often reset the transmission?
I don't know of any replacement control that would get rid of this problem. I've thought about buying a replacement to test; however, I haven't wanted to spend the money and still have to do the reset. I talked to a local dealer about replacement and they didn't know if it would help or not.
Thank you so much for the heads up. My ‘19 Pacifica definitely has abnormal shifts at low speeds, hoping this will solve it. So, do this reset every month or so?
Hi, recently purchased a 2017 Pacifica and I’ve experience the transmission jerk right around 14mph at the 1-2 shift . I’ve tried this reset numerous times even as recent as yesterday and it still did the same hard shift/ slam at 14mph again today. Anything else you would try and recommend here? Thanks in advance and love your channel!!!
Unfortunately the 14mph clunk will not go away, that was always present for me too. Because there are 9 gears I believe this is the 4-5 shift that engages the dog clutch. You can do some searching and find more information on forums. It will get worse over time and this reset brings it down but haven’t found anyone who was able to eliminate it.
@@TheLawnEngineer ok thanks for this info! As unfortunate as it is, I guess if it not harming the transmission like you mentioned in your videos and it just an unfortunate quirk of the transmission, It is what it is. I’m sure Chrysler won’t cover it with the powertrain warranty if they all do this at some point. I have 60k miles and should probably do a trans fluid drain and fill soon anyway, but I doubt it will help this condition.
Thanks. Wish I would have seen your vid before I took it to the dealership. They charged $150 and probably did the same thing. Said they reset the transmission. Smh
Thanks so much for this video. Do you think it would work on the hybrid model? I have a 2019 hybrid Chrysler Pacifica. Had to replace the transmission.
Unfortunately, no. The hybrid has a complete different CVT so no shifting is required. CVTs are notoriously unreliable, it even took Toyota many years to make theirs reliable.
@@mylounge9703 unfortunately not. The design and operation of a CVT doesn’t really benefit from the same reset as a conventional transmission. Also, there is a federal investigation into this transmission www.autoevolution.com/news/nhtsa-investigates-transmission-issue-affecting-chrysler-pacifica-phev-194678.html
@TheLawnEngineer day 2 and so far no clunking. I'll report back if otherwise but I think this might have helped because it was doing it every morning. Tysm!!!!
I can have hard shifts at 30 and 60 when I take my foot off the gas at the shift point. This sounds stupid, but I have minimized the hard shifts by using ethynol free gas. Rarely happens since that change. Downside is ethynol free gas can run 60 cents a gallon more. But I will try this if the issue becomes more common.
Ethanol does have less energy density than gasoline. It is reasonable to assume that it does change the engine mapping if you use a mixture so that could be the source of improvement. Thanks for checking in, hopefully your transmission stays smooth 👍
Oooo I can’t wait to do this to my 2016 Chrysler 300s with 70k I just bought it 3 months ago and thats the first thing I noticed like I’ll get off the free way and I’m at like 20 miles per hour and it’s still in 6th gear or 7th. Or the worst thing is wen I first get in it in the morning and put it to drive just fuck shakes the whole car.
I found it deep in a forum…how to reset adaptations on a Bosch transmission control modules. I tried it on the Pacifica and it worked. I wasn’t expecting much but I was amazed at the difference it made.
I found the same fix in the pacforums from someone sharing it from their experience having done it in BMWs, so apparently it works on multiple makes/models. It does work for me but not for long.
We have a 2018 and have had this issue for a while. Just recently it threw a trans warning and check engine so I disconnected the battery and the trans warning went away but still had the check engine. Do you think the adaptiv would get so bad to throw a trans warning? and does disconnecting the battery for 5 minutes do the same as your fix? Any help is appreciated.
Sorry you are having trans issues. The adaptive transmission will start shifting so bad it will throw a trans warning. Others have commented about the trans warning light and this reset making the light go out.
Does this have any change to the recalled software updates? Like will it delete the update if I have the latest firmware? Or it simply deletes the learned habits of the driver so to speak? Thanks. Much appreciated.
Wonder if this process will also work for my 2019 Ram 1500? At first startup it would shift very hard from 1st to 2nd, then drive normally. Happens only on cold starts, but last night now it’s stuck on 2nd gear and can’t drive over 25-30mph. Saw some other comments that it’s now on limp mode? Wondering if resetting transmission might fix issue?
Resetting in this way will get you out of limp mode. Hopefully it will smooth out the shift too but there may be something else going on. I don’t hear about too many cases with the rwd transmissions.
Will give it a try, but if it doesn't work, it's trade-in time. The issue with these vans is a major safety concern. On a few occasions, I was waiting at the lights to make a left turn and when I pressed the accelerator, nothing happened and the delay and subsequent hard shift almost resulted in a collision. I usually wait for a big gap in traffic because of this. These vans should all be recalled because the software for these 9-speed transmissions does not work and can result in damage or injury. It's worse than that because the inconsistent transmission behavior makes it impossible for the driver to predict when this will happen, other than it always being a low-speed problem.
The TCM changes it’s parameters as it learns and these are retained even with electrical power loss. The TCM needs to be reset to return to the original parameters.
I have gotten a warning twice now when driving really slow in a parking lot that i need to put gear into drive to move vehicle. It seems like it suddenly thinks I'm in neutral even though i didn't do anything. It goes away when i put it into park and then back into drive. Could this be fixed by doing this reset? I've had my van for 5 years now and have always dealt with the hard shifting, but have only taken it in to be reset once when it was still covered under warranty.
This reset might fix your problem. The shifting parameters may have gotten so far out of range that the trans is getting stuck between gears. There is a possibility that a sensor is going bad or shift solenoids but I would try this reset first.
Yes, the procedure works on all newer vehicles with a Bosch transmission control module. I couldn't find anything online to confirm but I believe the Grand Cherokee with ZF 8 speed has a Bosch TCM.
in this video you say"break pedal" but in your 1 year review you go through the demo again and it's the "gas" or "throttle" pedal. does it matter which one? thanks
Yes, you have to reset every month or so. Chrysler Pacifica-Jeep Cherokee 948TE ZF 9 speed Transmission Reset: Fix those harsh shifts ua-cam.com/video/REgRcfIc6Z0/v-deo.html
After this reset should I drive some time or that's it? Just wondering because we can find in the internet that you have to do the transmission adaptation sometimes i.e. after oil change- is this what are you telling us now? Reset means adaptation?
I am currently deep into a problem with an older Chrysler transmission that is exhibiting the same problems. Bump stop, harsh 1 to 2 shift, harsh downshift. Rebuilt the transmission and the trans has the exact same problems. My assessment is that the problem is not mechanical but electronic. Trans is a 41-TE 4 speed but uses a similar shifting method, an electronic box or module. I tried the manual reset that you and another site mentioned several times w/ no noticeable change. Seems that they connected a well engineered transmission to a feeble electronic box that is crammed full of half baked ideas. Currently waiting on a refurbished ECU to see if that helps. They are calling the PCM a power train control module when it is actually an ECM that passes information to & from a TCM (transmission control module). On newer models they are right next to each other but on older cars they were on opposite sides of the vehicle (OBD-1).
The good news is that I have heard accounts of a new/refurbed ECU solving problems like you are experiencing. However, it really is disappointed when such a major problem is caused by poor electronics.
@@TheLawnEngineer Agree. I rebuilt the A604 myself, not the first trans rebuild but my first 4 speed OD FWD unit. The trans is really neat the way it works. Some great engineering went into it. The A604 is internally identical to the 41TE which is the trans that is in my 2002 Chrysler Voyager mini van. That trans has never given me a moments trouble. I used the trans repair section of the FSM for the van to overhaul the A604. The car companies designed the old OBD-1 systems in such a way that only the individual manufacturer could access the computer system. Each make had their own design data plug. Ford had theirs, GM had theirs, Chrysler theirs, foreign cars theirs & so on. And on my little 93 LeBaron? It has 2 data access connectors, one under the hood and one under the dash & the plugs are different. The under hood one only accesses engine codes while the under dash one will access trans data.I tried a code scanner from O'Reilley's that had all the OBD-1 access plugs but it only had the under hood one and guess which one accesses the trans data? Very frustrating. Currently awaiting a refurbished ECM to try.
@@larryhutchens7593 that is a very frustrating situation. It’s amazing that the electronics actually simplified over time or at least became more standardized. I believe Tesla has even pushed things ahead further by having a single computer. Even the elimination of most buttons has driven all user inputs to the touch screen. Af first it seems more complicated but it actually cleans up the I/o and wiring of the vehicle.
Yeah……disregard. That question was for a completely different video where they were removing the front number. My apologies and thank you for the reply.
Would this work on a 2015 Chrysler 200s? Mine is in the shop for a service transmission and service park brake issue. They are telling me the transmission needs to be replaced
Great video, it definitely helps to reset my Chrysler 300, after about 2 weeks of driving it happens again. Has this happened to anyone else, if so what's a permanent fix
I have to reset about every 3 weeks, updated video here: ua-cam.com/video/REgRcfIc6Z0/v-deo.html I suppose a permanent fix would be an aftermarket tune, maybe this place: www.bgperformance.com/transmission-tuning/
Do this reset about once a month, you will be surprised by how much it helps. Also, try turning off the hill start assist. Check out this update ua-cam.com/video/REgRcfIc6Z0/v-deo.html
I followed your instructions for the reset.. Unfortunately and maybe not coincidentally, the check engine light came on during the first drive following the reset. Any advice??
The poor shifting may have been masking another problem. I would get the code read at an auto parts store for free. They can give you some idea of what the root cause could be. Also let me know what the code is and I could suggest a few things.

I’m glad my video helped you out. I wish there was a permanent fix but at least you have a way to manage it now.
I've watched most of your video on Pacifica. I have '18 Pacifica. Your video is the best. It's simple and straight. Big help man. Thanks again.

You’re welcome, this should definitely help you out.
I tried this this morning and then drove 40 miles today, highway and city mix, no hard shifts or clunk at all!! Amazing!!! Thanks a lot 🙏🙏🙏

@@medjoolmaker great to hear!!!
Thank you!
You’re welcome, I’m glad I could help.
Thanks for taking the time to check in; hopefully it can help someone with the same issue.
30 miles no issues
45 miles no issues
It runs like nothing never happen .
It definitely work
Thank you for this valuable quick fix.

Thank you so much for this video! Dealer couldn't "recreate" the problem we were having and so far this seems to have worked for us!
Glad it helped! Thanks for taking the time to comment.
I was so worried about that problem with my 2017 Pacifica. I did already and it’s working great. Thank you very much
Awesome, glad it helped 👍
Thank you again, my wife has been complaining of the clunky shifting for months.

I test drove a 2017 Pacifica with the dealer sitting beside me. It did the HARD SHIFT several times during the drive. I told the dealer no thanks because the transmission
is going out. The dealer called me the next day and said they would pay for a new tranny or knock off the cost of a new tranny if I wanted to deal with it. I saw this video that night and went back to the dealer and did what was said here and went for another test drive. The transmission shifted perfect and has been for nearly a year.So because of this three minute fix I
got a great deal on a great van! THANKS
I can't wait to get our 2017 CP Limited back from the shop. Our shifter gave out completely and we also notice the hard shifts like so hard from 1st to 2nd to 3rd it feels like its coming out of the car lol. Thanks so much for posting this!!
You’re welcome, hopefully this helps.
It’s frustrating, but at least this helps. Any luck with this reset?
@@TheLawnEngineer sorry for late late reply....yes this does seem to help. It seems I have to reset it every 3,000-5,000 miles.

@@TheLawnEngineer We have an 18 Touring L PLUS and it does this. Its sad that they don't recall this thing. 46k msrp with a junk program in the trans.

@@nahaniyes the stow and go seats are a great feature 👍. I wish you well in the search for a nice reliable vehicle that fits your needs.
We have a 100+ lb dog also. We
Love the Sto-N-Go seats for the middle row captain’s chairs.
Worth it!

Hi! Curious where you found this fix from? I've been searching for Pacifica manuals and engine DTCs and can't find much online :/
Cool beans! would this work on the Chrysler 200 with the 9 speed transmission as well? I subscribed 😁
Yes it will, it has helped quite a few people with 200s.
Does this have any change to the recalled software updates? Like will it delete the update if I have the latest firmware? Or it simply deletes the learned habits of the driver so to speak? Thanks. Much appreciated.
It will not affect the software updates, it only deletes the learning 👍
Wonder if this process will also work for my 2019 Ram 1500? At first startup it would shift very hard from 1st to 2nd, then drive normally. Happens only on cold starts, but last night now it’s stuck on 2nd gear and can’t drive over 25-30mph. Saw some other comments that it’s now on limp mode? Wondering if resetting transmission might fix issue?
Resetting in this way will get you out of limp mode. Hopefully it will smooth out the shift too but there may be something else going on. I don’t hear about too many cases with the rwd transmissions.
Do you have a solution for 2015 Chrysler 200 jerking when accelerating?
I would try this transmission reset but it could be many things. Are you getting a check engine light?
Does this procedure working with chrysler 200 ?!
Looking to hearing from you
Yes, give it a try.
I couldn’t agree more. This reset helps manage the situation but it’s not a solution.
I had enough around 85 k miles and sent it off.
Would an alternative be unplugging the battery for a minute or two to reset the whole computer system?
No, unfortunately the parameters don’t clear with a power discharge. The only way to restore the base parameters is with a scan tool or this reset.
For the reset, does it matter whether it is cold or hot? Engine/trans temp?
No, it returns to original parameters, temperatures have no impact on the reset.
Thank you! On the other side of the country and it wouldn't go into first. Fixed!
Glad to help👍
I wonder if this is necessary if you just replaced the battery? Would all of its learning be lost with a dead battery?
Wonder if it works on a 2015 grand Cherokee with the ZF 8 speed?
Yes, the procedure works on all newer vehicles with a Bosch transmission control module. I couldn't find anything online to confirm but I believe the Grand Cherokee with ZF 8 speed has a Bosch TCM.
in this video you say"break pedal" but in your 1 year review you go through the demo again and it's the "gas" or "throttle" pedal. does it
matter which one? thanks
Yes it does, do not touch the brake pedal.
Is this valid for a 2018 s model also? I'm at 116k and it has been shifting up hard at low speeds.
Yes, this will help you out.
@@TheLawnEngineer Thank you sir,I'm going to give it a shot.
Just wondering, does it last or does it eventually get back to the clunky fifth gear, requiring another reset an a month or so?
Yes, you have to reset every month or so.
Chrysler Pacifica-Jeep Cherokee 948TE ZF 9 speed Transmission Reset: Fix those harsh shifts

Have you had any issues with the cv joints? I am about to replace mine now for the 3rd time in 2yrs
I did not have any CV joint issues.
After this reset should I drive some time or that's it? Just wondering because we can find in the internet that you have to do the transmission adaptation sometimes i.e. after oil change- is this what are you telling us now? Reset means adaptation?
Reset means clearing the adaptations back to the original settings. No miles after reset are required to notice a difference.
Thanks a lot- it really works! Keep doing your great job.
@@niedzwiedz69jedzie Great to hear, thanks for the comment.
Damn! Was hoping you’d point out the ambient air temperature thingy.
Can you enlighten us on the ambient air temperature thingy?
Yeah……disregard. That question was for a completely different video where they were removing the front number. My apologies and thank you for the reply.
@@3seidel Ok, thanks for replying...I was scratching my head on this on 😀
Would this work on a 2015 Chrysler 200s? Mine is in the shop for a service transmission and service park brake issue. They are telling me the transmission needs to be replaced
It does work to return to the stock tune without adaptations; however, it won’t fix a worn out transmission. It’s definitely worth a try, good luck 👍
@@TheLawnEngineer thanks, I'll try it. At least if it works well enough to get it to a dealer as a trade in.
Great video, it definitely helps to reset my Chrysler 300, after about 2 weeks of driving it happens again. Has this happened to anyone else, if so what's a permanent fix
I have to reset about every 3 weeks, updated video here: ua-cam.com/video/REgRcfIc6Z0/v-deo.html
I suppose a permanent fix would be an aftermarket tune, maybe this place: www.bgperformance.com/transmission-tuning/
Does taking off the batteries leads reset the transmission module as well?
Unfortunately it doesn’t. The parameters are written to memory and it needs a “reset command” to clear the memory.
My Chrysler jerks when I put it on drive and it feels like its not shifting properly so what do I do ? Help please 😩
Do this reset about once a month, you will be surprised by how much it helps. Also, try turning off the hill start assist.
Check out this update ua-cam.com/video/REgRcfIc6Z0/v-deo.html
Do you know where the air charge temp sensor is on it
Yes, it’s on the air box before the intake manifold. If you remove the flexible tube from the air cleaner it behind it on the engine side.
When you let it sit for two minutes does that mean you can’t open the door or anything like that for the 2 minutes?
No, you can open the door, just don’t turn the ignition on in the 2 minutes
