    Jesus! You missed out the bit about joining a gym and spending 6 months working on your hands and thumbs! It took 1.5 hours and much swearing to get the two ends of the spring into the bushes.
    An instant change to the amount of force required to use the clutch. Well worth it for the cost 👍

    Just ordered a spring...
    Sounds like a joyous job according to the comments 😂😂

    Not as easy as you would have me believe! But what I did in the end was to compress the spring in a vice and then tie the ends in with a couple of lengths of wire.
    Worked like a charm!
    Bit of experimentation but I closed the gap to about 40-45mm and it pretty much dropped straight in. There's a lot of potential energy in there so I took the precaution of putting a tying the spring to the vice so that it could only 'pop' an inch or so.

    He must have had got an old soft spring and painted it green. Well I did manage it after 5 hours!! I clamped the spring in a vice so the two end were parallel and used two strong zip ties to hold them in that position. Then the hard part - getting the pins into the holes without breaking the ties or the spring jumping out of the lower slot. Very light now though.

    Brilliant video. My 300tdi clutch pedal is sticking down, or halfway. Going to try these tips before letting the dealer charge me an arm and a leg to fix it.

    Td5 install help. Just a few tips that might help. The later td5s and pumas seem harder to do ... Few pointers
    Remove all the Matt's and carpets..you can just push the factory installed floor mat up past the hand brake but you need to be down to the floor panels to get the clutch to compress
    Remove the pedal rubber (every millimeter counts 😏)
    Later td5s have the long spring, they also have the rubber carpets above the pedals..don't bother trying to access the fastener that attaches the spring you will probably end up bending the panel holding the carpet in place and losing the will to live in the process,... Just snip it as close to the bolt as possible.
    That Jack handle he uses is perfect but needs a few blocks of wood against the seatbox to space it . (A piece of slate batten instead of the jack handle cut to length would also work)
    Whichever you use make sure the clutch pedal is hitting the floor panels.
    Even with all this done it's a still test of strength to get the spring ends in the holes.. I found doing the one nearest driver's door easiest to do and the second then goes in easier. Dont give up! It will go!
    Just fitted an lof extreme clutch and they are 'extremely' heavy... With the clutch spring installed it's no heavier than my fiesta. Great products👍😃😃

      I just keep a length of timber under the seat to wedge the pedal down. Also good for testing brake lights

    Just fitted mine - what a phaf getting the two springs seated - I ended up locking a small set of mole grips on to one of the spring ends, then locked a second set of mole grips onto the first set, and with that I was able to enough force seat each ending to its bush.

    2002 td5 defender fitting. This guy's thumbs must have hulk like strength ! Clutch pedal to the metal floor , Mole grips, levers, blood , despair .... Allow yourself a good couple of hours (remember once you fatigue off the original tab there is no going back)

    *Save your thumbs* I followed all the instructions and still couldn’t compress the spring far enough. I managed to get it on by preloading the spring with some grips and holding it in place with strong zip ties first. Also opened up the the receiver tabs a little and bending them back once installed. Even with the bolt removed from the back of the pedal box completely the spring is nowhere near close enough to get into the bushes by hand. Am I missing something? It's a 2004 td5

    • @sgbnews
      @sgbnews 3 роки тому +2

      I had same problem and I think the video and instructions significantly understates the difficulty that may be encountered in some cases caused by the differences in dimensional consistency of Defenders. My Puma was impossible to fit and I’ve reinstalled the original.

    • @michaelhands1240
      @michaelhands1240 3 роки тому

      I used a pair of long nosed mole grips, and a piece of wood to keep the clutch to the deck. It was a struggle but managed it.

  • @RadDougall

    I’m on a 2.4 Puma Defender with carpets and this is impossible to fit. I’ve taken out the mats and got the pedal wedged in the carpet with the bolt almost out. I am still about 6mm short of getting the ends in. The carpets are a mission to remove as it goes up behind the centre console and over the transmission tunnel. So at a bit of a loss now. I think if you had bear metal floors it would be ok.

      Rad make sure you have moved the centre tab that is not in use (old coil type spring mount) The Spring will not fall into place with pedal fully down, it will still need compressing into place, you can if needed use a cable tie to pin the spring ends together while fitting!

      @@lofclutches4156 thanks for the Saturday reply! :)
      It’s down enough that the tab isn’t in the way (struggled to snap that off also) but my thumbs can’t compress the spring enough to make the holes…. Looking again I’m actually over 1cm away. The pedal is approximately vertical… can’t get it any further back.
