  • This is how we replace the clutch kit in our truck. Replacing the clutch kit and upgrading the clutch kit on a Land Rover with LOF Clutches clutch kit is a great upgrade to consider. Learn why and how we had to change the clutch kit on our Land Rovr Defender Puma.

    And finally: Luke at L.O.F is brilliant. Very very quick at answering emails and phone calls. And he really knows his stuff. I got my clutch to South Africa in 6 days... !

    Hi Emiline & Off Track Family. I recently installed the L.O.F clutch kit... 1)Power Master cylinder, 2)Concentric Slave Cylinder, 3) Diaphragm Spring and Pressure plate. I got the Extreme Spec as I needed it "right now" and Luke confirmed that the power spec was not available at the time. The LOF clutch is amaaaaaaaazing. No rattle at all (in your video, one can see clearly how loose those springs are in the OEM part). And the clutch pedal is soooooo soft and smooth, you think you are driving a VW Lupo. However, that clutch can handle massive torque and you can feel the improved power transfer. I'm super happy and after 1000km of driving I'd say this is one of the best upgrades one can do. Their MT82 output shaft is also a cool solution for the pretty problematic OEM shaft. Great video. I'm sure you'll be happy with the new clutch

    My clutch from my Puma restoration project is in the same state as yours with rattly springs after only 16000 miles from new!! I must get in touch with Luke to see about getting a replacement set up. Luckily my output shaft is perfect. it was greased well from the factory.

    • @offtrackfamily
      @offtrackfamily  3 роки тому +1

      Very good choice for your restoration project. Which one will you take? power extreme or road spec? About your output shaft, you are lucky. Greased from the factory is better than nothing but I can only recommand to replace this part with a better one like the extreme outputshaft kit from LOF. Don't miss the next video we will talk about this output shaft more in detail so stay tuned!

    Clutch and gearbox overhaul from last week, TD4, MY 2007.
    The subject of the clutch, worn springs and broken springs will come up again at some point, now for the second time.
    After 22T Km the first clutch was replaced by LR. Allegedly, a "reinforced" clutch, springs/plate, was now installed.
    The second clutch had to be replaced after 53 km, same problem.
    The springs have worn in, two were already broken.
    The clutch lining was still TOP, no indication of a "brutal" driving style.
    On the subject of the original intermediate shaft, check and replace if necessary.
    The original intermediate shaft was still in very good condition.
    A one-piece intermediate shaft was purchased in advance from LOF, via a workshop in Germany.
    Two problems have arisen:
    1. the hole for the long screw did not fit, it was drilled from 2 sides, with offset. You can only get the screw through the hole by force and would damage the thread.
    2. the shaft had a height offset of 3/10.
    I think it is clear to everyone what this means.
    The LOF shaft was not installed and returned.
    I can only advise everyone to check the LOF shaft before installation.
    3. a reinforced clutch from LUK, complete set, has now been installed.
    4. a new original intermediate shaft was fitted, but this time with the appropriate grease.
    5. all oil seals and O-rings have been replaced.
    6. The side plate on the transfer gearbox has been replaced. With a new cover with bulge and cooling fins. Advantage 0.75L more oil in the gearbox and thus better "cooling".
    Wish you all a good trip and as few repairs as possible.

    If your LT230 isn't sleeved it would of been an good time to do it, stops the leaking of the intermediated shaft

    • @offtrackfamily
      @offtrackfamily  3 роки тому +1

      Our LT230 is a replacement transfer case from ashcroft with sleeve casing. But unfortunately it also leaks from this intermediated shaft so we will probably fix it later.

      When I rebuilt my transfer case I added silicone sealant to the bore and shaft at the front few mm just to be sure. I showed this in my rebuild video. Hope it works if the o ring struggles to seal.

    OTF. As your Defender approaches the quarter million kilometers travelled mark, it maybe an appropriate time to update the engine to one from the later 2011+ Ford Ranger TDCi 5 cylinder 3.2ltr donk ? The engine uses a same MT-82 gearbox as your Landy, with a petrol V8 radiator and aftermarket intercooler it should turn this rig into an expedition automobile ! V.

    I did this job my self with out a lift or transmission jack (I bought one, And it failed!). It was easy but hard, skill wise it’s not to bad, but the parts are heavy and that made it hard.
    Check out my land rover page, @elvisoverland for pictures on the project.
    I had to use a system of ratchet straps to get the gearbox and transfer case back in 🙈.

      There is another video on UA-cam that suggests the seats and gearbox tunnel need to come out in order to access the upper bell housing bolts, yet the mechanic here seems to access them all from underneath. Is this due to the drive train slack from the vehicle been up on the lift or are the bell housing bolts accessible from underneath anyhow?

    • @axelcartwright4507
      @axelcartwright4507 2 роки тому +1

      @@213davidhunter I got to them from the gap between the engine and fire wall with a 13mm spanner, take the cover off and loosen the EGR cooler you will have just enough space. It’s not fun though.
