This song blows my mind now...imagine hearing this after a bong load in 1971! Iommi's guitar, Geezer's Bass, Ozzy at his best, the drums are on point...it sounds incredible STILL in 2023.
I have been a Sabbath fan since 71. I still have the first Master of reality album on vinyl. Well protected. Let me tell you that what you are hearing is exactly how it sounded back then. I was 11 when my dad bought me Master of reality in 71, because I had heard of Sabbath, and that's what I wanted for my birthday. Metal began in 1970 with Black Sabbath, their first album.
Guys I am a Sabbath fan since 71. I got Master of reality. I still have that record to this very day. After a year, I got another one. Then , put the original away. I could put the original album on today, and you would hear no diminished sounds. This is how the Mighty Sabbath sounded in 1971.
“I didn’t think they would start with the very best ever” Exactly right my man if there was a perfect way to start an entire genre it would be exactly how they did.
SABBATH!! 🤟 Into the Void has to be the heaviest early metal song ever, period! Doomy guitar riff and that epic bass line....pure sludge! Great reaction guys.
Yeah this isn't a remaster, Black Sabbath actually sounded this GOOD back in 1971. I just think the analogue recordings sound so much better than today's modern digital recordings. There's just something sterile sounding about digital to my ear.
Analogue IS superior!!!!!! As it was explained to me, in order to do a digital recording they have to remove layers of sound and “compress” it down to make it digital. The sound quality isn’t as full and rich. There’s a reason Dave Grohl, Jack White and many other top artists will only record to analogue.
How many super bangers they got? Probably like 40-50 Here’s a few to start you off: 1. Fairies Wear Boots 2. Sweet Leaf 3. Snowblind 4. Killing Yourself To Live 5. Symptom of the Universe Black Sabbath about to be y’all’s favorite band pretty soon Oh and yeah Tony iommi (guitarist) lost about a quarter of an inch on his middle and ring finger on his right hand when he worked at a metal sheet factory before the band formed. He plays left handed so his bad fingers are on the hand forming the notes up on the neck, not the hand holding the pick. He made prosthetics for his fingers out of melted plastic and leather.
Toni lost the very tips of his middle and ring fingers of his fretboard hand (he plays left handed) and he created false finger tips by melting down plastic and covering them in leather to act like skin. If you like that track, you'll like the whole album. Master of Reality is perfect start to finish. Some of the nastiest riffs ever crafted, and the BASS is unbelievable. Btw Toni and Geezer (bass player) wrote a majority of their music, and Geezer wrote almost all the lyrics.
Not to nitpick, but his name is Tony (not Toni). Tony Iommi. He is Legend. Sabbath has ALWAYS BEEN TONY IOMMI's band. I promise you that. And, oh by the way, Black Sabbath was pretty darn awesome when Ozzy was replaced by Ronnie James Dio as well. All in good time, my friends. Well done on this reaction video.
@@josephbarr1659 haha didn't even realize I was misspelling the legend's name, but hard agree, Sabbath was and always will be IOMMI. Godfather of hard rock, inventor of metal, incredible songwriter, hard to overstate how important he is to rock and western music history.
"First heavy metal band". They are. They are the first where you can say definitively "This is heavy metal". 1967 was the 'summer of love', Sgt. peppers and all of that. But the tone started the change. In 1968 you hear many examples of what might be 'proto-metal' creeping in. Not all of the elements were there, and/or a band might release a really heavy track, but wasn't the overall 'sound' of their band.
Yo thanks for the shout out. If you're curious, my username is a slang term for 11B, which is the MOS designation for US Army Infantry, which I used to be.
Hey guy's. Love you love Sabbath. First album. It has the Witch on the front cover. Contains NIB, the Wizard and many more. Listen to the first Sabbath. Second is Paranoid, third MASTER OF REALITY, FOUR- VOL.4 .. Start there for Sabbath.
Yes. The tips of his fret fingers. His last night at a metal machine factory. He was going to quit. But a copy of a Django Reinhardt album. Who lost two of his whole fingers on his fret hand.
I saw Black Sabbath in concert & Ozzy in concert . Both put on a great show !!! Listen to the band " EARTH ". That's pre - Black Sabbath before they changed their name . They used to be a blues band . They were highly influenced by Eric Clapton & Hendrix back in the early days .
Symptom of the Universe and Children Of The Grave inspired Metallica, Slayer, etc. Black Sabbath, Hand of Doom and Electric Funeral inspired "Doom Metal" Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, The Writ, and Megalomania are very progressive and technical. and way more influential shit in their early catalog.
First time I watched you guys and I really enjoyed your reaction. You need to watch them live ( I saw them in 1971) to appreciate their performance to go with their awesome music. Even though you saw War Pigs before I don't think it was live. Watch it in Paris 1970 video or at least watch Fairies Wear Boots live in Paris same show. In the War Pigs video you can see Bill Ward (best rock drummer IMO) play with the sticks in reverse due to them breaking when he played. When you watch the video you will see why. I look forward to watching your journey down the Black (Sabbath) Hole.
Awesome you guys - I agree, Sabbath was the first and THE BEST! It's incredible isn't it? Dunno about remastering, it sounds like it did from the very start to me from 1971 - great sound. I was only 16 and had just started collecting music so I didn't appreciate how special these guys were back then. I fully appreciate them now - Tony Iommi is my favorite guitar man. Glad you appreciate the lyrics too! Absolutely Tony's band, Ozzy sucked compared to DIO on 3 other albums - "Heaven and Hell" and "Mob Rules" are 2 awesome albums with Dio. The song "Heaven and Hell" will blow you away!
They got no radio play in their home country. The press hated them. Everything was word of mouth. In Britain their second album knocked Bridge Over Troubled Waters off No 1 spot - and still no radio or TV. They did it the hard way. -edit- Tony lost the tips of his second and ring fingers on his fretting hand, he is left handed.
a small group of survivors evacuating earth to escape a nuclear holocaust ------ a popular concept in a few songs from that time, as well as many science fiction novels
The music was written by the genius Tony iommi, and the lyrics were generally written by the bass player, Geezer Butler. This was the greatest songwriting team ever. He is left handed, so the tips were from the two middle fingers on his fret playing hand. He even basically invented super light flex strings. Ozzy was hired and ultimately fired by Tony. This is off the Master of Reality album. You should listen to Children of the Grave, and then Symptom of the Universe and then Sabbath Bloody Sabbath. Symptom of the Universe is the first thrash song. Even the hand gesture that everyone uses today was invented by them, and first caught on internationally midway through this song which was broadcast on TV worldwide in 1974. ua-cam.com/video/U39EiI-NR4I/v-deo.html Just about everything anyone plays or does today involving metal, doom thrash, etc., are all based on what Tony iommi invented.
Do whole album reviews of them in chronological order. There are many great songs on each album that people don't mention, most all reaction videos do the same songs and oh so many are not even covered. check out "Electric Funeral" on the paranoid album. Also pay attention the the lyrics in all their songs as they have a lot to say.
I have to agree with the chronological order of listening to Black Sabbath!! My introduction to Black Sabbath was actually the second album "Paranoid" because the single by the same name used to play on the jukebox when me and my friends would play Pinball at the local candy store back in the very early 1970s!! Shout from hearing that song I purchase the album that that song was on which was Paranoid, then then I think I bought the master of reality album when it came out and then went back and purchased the first album after I found out there was one!! From then on it was just a matter of waiting for each album to be released!! So naturally from the third album on I listened in chronological order!! I would definitely agree with a lot of the comments that I've seen that the first 5 Black Sabbath albums are just the best!! Not really a bad track on any of them!!
From this Same album listen to the song "After Forever"! Black Sabbath got a bad rep for being a devil worshipping or Satan music type of band because of the new sound and probably because of the name Black Sabbath itself!! But in reality they were catholic I think and definitely were not Satan worshipers and this song kind of proves that in my opinion!! You could take the song after forever and let any Christian rock band in the world do it and it would not ruffle any feathers!!
Hey, nothing wring with the hits, for sure, but to me, they're all hits. I say diwn ine time and clicked on a Sabbath randim mix. I said, I'll quit when I hear a song I don't like
AND THENNNN AND THENNNN, THEY DO WHAT IS CONSIDERED TO BE THE VERY 1ST SPEED METAL SONG ( SYMPTOM OF THE UNIVERSE ) OFF OF THEIR ALBUM ( SABOTAGE ) :) DOESN'T IT PISS YOU OFF OR MAKE YOU CRAZY THAT BANDS HAVE RIPPED OFF SABBATH AND PURPLE BIGTIME THROUGH THE YEARS DAD! LMAO, I ALWAYS SAY ' IT'S EFFED UP ' :( BUT EVEN YOUR SON RECOGNIZES ALL THESE BANDS FROM 83 AND ONNNNN RIPPED OFF SABBATH AND PURPLE ( ESPECIALLY TONY IOMMI AND RITCHIE BLACKMORE ) THE GUITARISTS I COULD GO ONNNNN AND ONNNNNN BUT I WON'T! :)

Great observation by you two. Sabbath started this hard rock venue and was the influence for an entire genre.
“I didn’t think they would start with the very best ever” Exactly right my man if there was a perfect way to start an entire genre it would be exactly how they did.
Lord Of This World, one of their most heavy metal songs
It was the first song they wrote.
Stopped by yet again to hear your reaction to this magnificent jam! 50+ years on an this is still fire!

Incredible!
The First Five Black Sabbath albums are a MUST listen too!
Six*
I see Sabbath, I subscribe!
The heaviest funkband in the world!❤❤❤😎😎😎
Sabbath are one of the very few bands that can put out an album on which every single song is epic. "The Wizard" is my favourite.
We will be exploring more for sure. This song blew our minds for real.
Toni lost the very tips of his middle and ring fingers of his fretboard hand (he plays left handed) and he created false finger tips by melting down plastic and covering them in leather to act like skin.

So cool chillin with your son, Wicked World and After forever will not disappoint
Cant go wrong with any song!
My next recommendation is Children of the Grave also heavy with kickass bass and drums!
Back in 1970- 1975 you had to buy the album to hear this. It was not played on the radio, only a few songs were.
Best reaction I’ve ever seen to Sabbath ! When you know… you know. I subscribed. ✌️from Boston.
Joe Gaffey from Boston! Thanks for the compliment and the SUB!
Tony Iommi plays the way he plays because of his injury. It's a perfect example of working well within your limitations. He created a whole genre.
Yes. The tips of his fret fingers.
His last night at a metal machine factory. He was going to quit.
But a copy of a Django Reinhardt album. Who lost two of his whole fingers on his fret hand.
You gotta check out pretty much everything from their first several albums.
What should the next Black Sabbath reaction be?
Black Sabbath- KILLING YOURSELF TO LIVE 🔥
^ this guy knows what’s up
KILLING YOURSELF TO LIVE IS A BANGER
The Wizard
Symptom of the Universe and Children Of The Grave inspired Metallica, Slayer, etc.

Children of the Grave

The album which contains this song, Master of Reality, is arguably the heaviest album ever released.

You can say that about tons of Sabbath songs
And this was 50 years ago in 1971.
A National Acrobat.
Check it out!

Please react to the song "Hand Of Doom"
Title is epic!
Is there anything to be said but SABBATH
Guys;Y’all all sooooo late. I’ve listened to this almost fifty years ago. 😂
Listen to Fairies Wear Boots by Sabbath
